  • I'm in between these two drives on which one to use on my board. They both sound fantastic in their own ways. The Benson Preamp is very articulate, whereas the Tube Pilot is spongy and saturated. They both do a great job as a secondary drive. I need your help!

for the money you could buy the tube pilot and add an eq pedal after the tube pilot.

DANG, thats a tough choise, they both sound great, i realy liked the sound of the single lead notes on the Tube Pilot
but i loved how the chords cut through on the Benson. Take them both LOL

Both sound great! I think the benson had more clarity and dynamics. I also think the benson didn’t color the original sound as much as the TC.

I have the Tube Pilot and with it you can change the tube to a lower or higher gain type 12--7 and there is a power bias trim pot inside to adjust tube voltage. I did both change tube and adjusted bias then use a EQ after it to adjust tone. So for around $150 total I have a great preamp OD pedal.

This is the video i was looking for as thats how id use this pedal (tc) id go with the benson as its more dialable but that tc is a really good price and i do run an eq

  • @pastorkev777

You can try Tube Works Tube Driver 910 it has a eq and runs on a 9v power supply.
Now the tube pilot sounds great, you can always find someone to mod it. I have heard or tone controlw, 3 band eqs being done and that would likely be less than the Tube Driver and Benson still.

When you were doing some of the lead stuff, I heard some Brian May coming out of the TC - the Bohemian Rhapsody solo. Cool, to be sure. They both sounded good on their own, but when you stacked them, the Benson took the lead and never looked back.

    Tube pilot
For the money yes, but vintage tube tones, yes indeed !
Benson is awesome, a little spendy but really really nice,
    For me tone pilot

Hi Ty! Great comparisson. I would've never expected that tone from the Tube Pilot. Here's my 2 cents. I feel the Benson is "leading" in the whole tone while the TP "sits" more in the tone. If that makes any sense :). Personally I'd go with the Benson as it gives you that extra clarity/transparency in combination with the other pedals. It adds something new to the sound. While the TP sounds good it doesn't aid to the sound very much. It feels like it gives more of a crunch (eg. Slash sound) to the whole tone.
Hope it helps! All the best and God bless.

Yea that’s super helpful! Thanks for the feedback. I just swapped out the tube in the TP, so I’m curious if it’ll make a difference. I’ll report back in another video. Thanks!

I say stick with the benson you have more controls in case you decide you ever wanna mess with the eq settings. Both sound good but to my ears the benson sounds it has more dynamics and feel. The tube pilot doesn’t sound bad either.

  • @alphanumeric1529

TP is just mushy. The Benson sounds great! Like there is still super rich harmonics, but the core note/tone is still there, you can hear the chords, they retain their function. But with the TP, the chords are mush, like they lose their function, a 5 chord won't wanna pull to the 1, the harmonic relationships are lost.
Now if you wanna make slab type guitar music, like just mush kind of noise, the TP is for you, but if you want to play the kind of stuff you were playing in this video, the Benson is a much better choice.
I don't know if you really are asking with this vid. If you are, you have a long way to go with your ears. You can improve in this regard by recording your guitar and comparing it to other pro tones that you are aiming for. In hearing what is different between yours and the pros, you'll know what you lack. If you don't make these comparisons your ear is gonna languish in ignorance.
If it's all click/engagement bait, well, well done. Everybody told you the obvious answer, the Benson may be 3 (or more) times the price, but it is 10 times better sounding for the music you played in this video. This is a no contest siteation.

Only problem with the benson is you can’t turn the eq completely off so it’s a little stuffy, the tube pilot has this airiness like there’s room to breathe

    • @tycaskey
      @tycaskey  2 года назад +1

Thanks for the feedback. Both pedals definitely have their sounds. Lately I’ve been using the benson because I like what it does with the midrange. I use that and the iridium as my base tone. The tp definitely has this sponginess though that I haven’t really been able to get with another pedal.

    • @wallbreakers5062

@@tycaskeyyeah it still sounds great, I like the overall color it can get without sounding cheap. Im wondering about that switch now, if that just runs the EQ and leaves the tube/drive off because I’d love to have that feature and try that out.

I'm hearing some fizz on the benson at high gain. The benson has more low end, but not in a good way. (Maybe it's my cheap earphones tho)
The tube pilot seems to be really focused on a particular frequency, and it saturates really nicely.
Go with whatever makes you happier lol, it's so subjective
