    I replaced mine with an Arion SCH chorus. Brian Wampler shows how to use it as a stereo widener and, while I quite like what the Mimiq does, I found the Arion works better if I am running another modulation pedal earlier in the chain (Arion last ofc).
    I think first one was Mimiq.

    Hi Leon, "Curious" as you described, is how I've found mine. Quite a hard pedal to use, as those three knobs and three-way switch drive me crazy - I forget what I was actually trying to do with it (Randy Rhoads doubling effect). But I like it for a variation away from the +11/-9 EVH Micro-Pitch thing I use too much.

    One idea I had for a pedal like this is to get one each for both the other guitar player in the band and myself so that we could possibly achieved quad-tracked tones without actually having to track two separate guitar tracks. I figured this would work perfect for both playing live shows and being able to capture a huge live sound as well as being able to play through some really low output pickups that don’t have that much gain on tap.

    I wrestled with the Mimiq for over two years, trying to find some combo that could be collapsed into mono for recording purposes. I even used an AmplifireBox down the middle, to sit over a stereo hard-panned Mimiq signal processed by an Axe Fx 3 and summed to mono. Nothing seemed to make the Mimiq "mono friendly".
    After the Cygnus release, I found that the Mimiq had no advantage when compared to a single guitar signal sent to two amp blocks, each feeding a stereo cab, with only one stereo cab feeding a reverb block, and the entire mixed output going into a crossover/filter to pan the highs out more than the lows, then output to an external stereo mic-pre/parallel comp/EQ. This non-Mimiq stereo sound was just as wide as the Mimiq, but also sounded great in mono. As soon as I discovered this wide stereo setup, which sounded big like the Mimiq and also sounded great in mono, I sold my Mimiq and never looked back.
    I'm not sure whether my new stereo setup means the end of double-tracking, but I've found it to be more versatile in a "wide guitar" recording context than the Mimiq.

    I had one and sold it. To me the pedal would shine in a live situation, with one guitarist and two amps, each side of the stage (what it’s meant for). One amp just sounds like a mess. For the studio, I prefer to double track in the traditional way. And my Kemper, with the stereo widener active, sounds far better to my ears. The Stomp can also do the work. Nice video though.

    I always thought an effect like this might sound slightly more authentic with a small amount of pitch detune on the effected signal as well as the in-built delay of the mimic (perhaps an eq too). Therefore imitating the timing errors, tuning imperfections and tonal differences of double (multi) tracking.

    Hey Leon, by any chance you see this or if anyone else can opine, I'd like to know how you connected this thur the axefx? I'm using a axefx2, Im assuming from your comments you use the FX send (1 cable/mono) to the mimq, then return (stereo 2 cables) to the FX return. You said you grabbed the signal from where in the chain? was it before or after any affects in axefx patch? I'm thinking the signal can send just before any time based effects, then returned as to send the double through those effects or even after to have like a dry and wet sound? Some clarity would be really appreciated. Thanks

    If you haven't tried it as a splitter in front of two separate rigs I suggest you give it a shot. I find having different EQ and distortion/phase characteristics makes it sound even bigger, as well as imo making the "phasey" sound even less noticeable. In a stereo loop at the very end of the chain (even after delays and verbs). One double (just want the fake second guitar, not chorusing), full effect + full wet (for the 100% L/R hard pan thing), drunk knob between 11:00 and 1:00 depending on the speed of the groove. Always in for rhythm patches, always out of the loop for leads. I play mostly in cans and hate being mono'd out when jamming. This thing is a godsend in that respect. Gets your brain instantly in the context of what it will sound like once double tracked.

      @D. A. It's a stereo widener and really should be used with a stereo rig. Mine is the VERY last pedal in the chain. I know they make one mono for the Randy Rhodes "double tracked lead" kind of thing which is more like a chorus, but it doesn't really sound that good in context, IMO.

      I have one and love how it sounds splitting the signal into two entirely separate amps. As Leon said in the video though, it NEEDS to be in stereo to sound right. Well, technically not stereo, but feeding two separate signal paths to separate speakers anyway. "In front" doesn't work well if you mean in front of just one regular head or combo.

    • @jaeseonn
      @jaeseonn 3 года назад +1

      Little different. Enhancer increases the size of the space(kind of reverb+euqalizer?), but Mimiq is doubling simulator through a delay.

      @@jaeseonn I see, thanks. So I could emulate a doubler through a very short stereo delay?

    • @jaeseonn
      @jaeseonn 3 года назад +2

      @@cunjoz Yes, but you'll notice a slight difference. I guess Mimiq's delay speed rate changes depending on the pitch. That's the key of Mimiq's doubling sound. Try with pitchfollower or something that can give a feeling of random rate. 🤔

    • @DapperHesher
      @DapperHesher 3 года назад +2

      @@jaeseonn Yup, the secret sauce here is the delay time (and perhaps the pitch too) meanders a bit randomly as you play. What happens with a regular fixed time/pitch double is your brain gets used to the static delay time real quick and it just sounds like a L/R slapback and not a double tracked guitar riff.
