    I met Simon at a PRS event years ago and I told him I was a huge fan of his playing and totally gushed over him. He looked shocked at first! He was incredibly grateful for the compliment and thanked me profusely. He thanked me! It was like he'd never been complimented before, ever. What a cool memory of a really great and humble guy. So happy for him and am loving all the youtube videos of him on stage with such legends. BTW, I'm still stealing licks from him 🤫

      Still strong? They are about in wheelchairs doing whatever venue? Probably a casino tour. Good lord, even Coverdale admits it's old. Gillian is long gone, I get it, you love the memories there solid man Blackmore put together, but as Robert Plant said...It looks a bit dumb to stand on stage and look so old.

      @@user-qp4sy2dp5b Who cares? They don't. I dont.. They ain't much but they still have fans. As Frank Zappa said, "We're just in it for the money".

    • @edrenas7930
      @edrenas7930 10 месяцев назад

      And yet, Robert Plant is currently playing a venue that looks to have a capacity of about 700 and he looks pretty old. He's not a hypocrite, he certainly isn't doing it for the money, maybe he just doesn't mind looking silly if he gets to do what he loves.

    • @user-qp4sy2dp5b
      @user-qp4sy2dp5b 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@edrenas7930 Yes Plant is playing and it's always HIS music, and always a change. It really is me and a million more with the attitude of the jump on a old ship that other's in there youth, say, Gillian did when he cranked out Smoke on the water lyrics, after that terrible fire, or when The New Yardbirds played the Kinetic Playground in Chicago, and got to hear, How many more times for the first time ever, see, it belonged to them. I am not saying you can't play lead guitar. I seen a 16 year old in Sweden, crank out Rock n Roll on a Japan rip of a Les Paul, thru a small Vox amp, and how great he was. I meet Plant in 82, Pictures at Eleven tour in Chicago. I would ask if you meet Plant, would you tell him he is only playing to 700, after a few years back won the best album of the year? I did'nt like his act, but His words are, as the man along with his mates, rewrote the book on rock n roll, say, It get's to a point where you look foolish and aged playing material that is just not fresh, nor, it look's foolish to be old and play it. Hey, rock those Blackmore riffs all night, but to us that saw him play those riffs in his heyday, nothing more thrilling, and he made it look effortless. The best PA system I remember from that period. Not easy with a Marshall and Strat together I would think? Let me know when Purple comes out with a new album, and I shall buy it. Last night I put on Made in Japan, as it just fit to make it til the weekend. So I am a Purple fan, I just see the diminish in music, when bands like Styx are still trying to sing Lorelli. Even Chicago put the tour gear away. Yes, Percy is only playing to 700...but if you just had the other guy with him, and put Led Zeppelin on the ticket, would be a sellout and shear thunder. That is musical power and legend.

    When Steve start in DP 1994, everyone (except RB fans) was speechless how good Morse is. No doubt I'm unconditional fan of Steve Morse playing and writing skills. Steve went over 60, his right wrist got lot of pain and then the fast accurate alternative picking was over, also the new fresh ideas with Purple were at the end and also the producing of Bob Erzin lowered the guitar of SM...So it is clear that Simon Mcbride Start at DP will be on fire! I Remember when I heard P"urpendicular" for the first time. It was absolutely different, higher dynamics, modern concept of song writing (it was clear the Morse signature) the guitar parts were just "Wow...I'm fanatic Steve Morse fan, but I wish all the best for Simon Mcbride and DP...

      Morse is a legendary player in his own career. First with the Dixie Dregs then with his own solo career starting with the Southern Steel album. In Deep Purple he was good but Mr McBride is absolutely perfect as a replacement for Ritchie Blackmore - a fast, melodic and MODERN sounding player. More versatile than Steve Morse IMHO which is NOT to slight Steve in any way at all! If you've not heard Southern Steel by Steve Morse Band then get on it NOW!!!

    Simon is probably the best guitar slinger Deep Purple had. Of course Ritchie wrote or co-wrote all those classic songs and I love his early stuff on studio albums like In Rock and Fireball, but live he was always erratic, could even walk off the stage if he got irritated over something, which he did when I saw the reunion och Mk II in Stockholm in 1986 (I think). Steve Morse has a lyrical side that I admire, but I never liked his soloing, those chromatic runs that make up most of his solos. Simon is perhaps not as unique as Ritchie or even Steve, but he is a phenomenal player and I like his live solos and his live guitar sound is also next to perfect, modern but not to metal modern to clash with the Purple style of music. If he can contribute to the songwriting in an interesting way remains to be seen. The band is reportedly recording a new album, the first with Simon.

    I find it kinda intriguing that he uses slanted/A-type cabs lying on the side.

      If I remember correctly, that's what Steve Morse already did. Maybe the cabs are from Deep Purple as a band.

      @@JoshuaSmits Simon mentions that they are! Interesting, any idea why morse did that? So he could have pure A cabs maybe?

      @@lordgraga I guess he likes the spread of them when he walks on stage

      There was some Interview with Steve where he said something about it, that he wanted to avoid the usual stack with an angeled top half that has the sound going above his head (literally...) or something like that
      I think he didn't use stereo but a wet/dry system
      Simon literally mentions the cabs are from the band at the end of this video too, funny that he only needs two parts
