    I did this, the "Robin Hood Bricks System", in my video on 1st February 2021. Also, doing it directly onto a table saves a ton of baseplates!

    0:59 Having the voids under the sidewalks are great for running wires to light street lights etc 👍

    Well I found technique for the road plates and modular some time ago, it is so easy and useful to do.

    Instead of building your roads on base plates, try building roads on regular plates instead. Only use baseplates for buildings so it will create one and a half plate hight difference between roads and sidewalks. Now your sidewalk ramps will line up perfectly with the road without this half a plate high difference. 😉

    This is a great and way more affordable idea than plain mils.

    if i were you, i would follow the mils system and make all of your road corners curved to make it more realistic.

    If you want, you can use a 2/4 upward curved piece (or a 1/2 cheese wedge) so your cars can drive up them. This can be used for every building

    I ended up prying the modulars off the base plate then using the Lego tool to remove the tiles and other smaller pieces. Followed the instructions to put the pieces on the plates. Took a very long time and I have the diner left so I'll be using this method

    But because the bottom of our modulars are simply a standard base plate then it's just "floating" on top of those 2x2 bricks yeah? I've changed over a couple of my modulars to mils plates and it was surprisingly easy and even kind of fun because I could then add my lighting wire runs underneath for my street lamps and then it safer to pick up and move the whole modular as well. I definitely don't want to move a modular around that is not on a mils plate, it's just too wobbly. Good quick fix I suppose but in the long run I'd go to mils plates.

      The little stud divots on the back/ underside of the baseplate attached to the modular help to hold it in place on the bricks. But yes, it is technically floating.... you can easily anchor it to the road tho with connection points if you were worried about it shifting!

    Great system. RobinHoodBricks is using this technique throughout his city and had a tutorial with new roadplated on this as well.

    Really like the idea but surely it just slips around as you can't connect the bricks to the modular base plate?

    • @AFOLTV
      @AFOLTV  2 месяца назад +1

      Only slips if you’re moving your city around/ tables around a lot. Otherwise it sits well due to the dimples on the underside of the modular baseplate

    What about transferring the modulars to non-LEGO products such as 32x32 plates from Strictly bricks? No need for mills and not so expensive either.

    • @AFOLTV
      @AFOLTV  Год назад

      Still have to transfer though, and risk breaking the modular in the process

      I thought that too until I tried a few. They came with the new Lego sets. I found the new plates are good to customize and they also save space on my ever expanding city. The street lights that come with the plates are cool as well 👍
