What makes Conn so special & even more impressive is he never had an amateur bout, only trained as a pro. One of the greatest light heavyweight fighters in history 🥊

Conn (which means "Chief" in Gaelic) really had a brilliant (and near complete) fighting style that integrated both defense (distance and head control/clinch work) with attack (mostly the lead left hook but also great two fisted body punching) seamlessly, it's a style that wouldn't cut it with most of today's fans I reckon but it would still be highly effective and might possibly work better against today's modern fighters that are usually technically weak on the inside (there are exceptions, of course). A wonderful fighter.
    Great work as always haNZAgod.

Most of today’s fans want to see two brawlers club each other. Bravo description- good analysis. Mike Tyson loved to study old school boxing film and Billy Conn was a great light heavyweight who nearly won the heavyweight crown from one of the greats.

Conn would destroy most heavyweights today with ease. He had great stamina and threw very clean shots to the body.

haNZAgod Really great job. Conn in his prime was definetly an all time top ten light heavy. Superb balance, awesome volume, highly accurate, and threw with bad intentions.

AWESOME !!! thank you haNZAgod ! Billy Conn is a boxers boxer and a fighters fighter. Years ago I watched classic boxing on TSN ( Canadian ESPN ) and watched Louis vs Conn 1, days later I walked into a local boxing club and found my favorite sport. I would have liked to see him in todays era, Conn vs Hopkins Conn vs Kovalev Conn vs Roy Jones Conn vs Calzaghe

Not much knockout power but excellent footwork, balance and timing. Great defensive fighter. Not a pure counterpuncher, but very fast hands and threw effective combinations. One of the greatest light heavyweights ever. Challenged the immortal Joe Louis for the heavyweight crown when Louis was at the height of his career. Was winning the fight fairly comfortably and had actually wobbled the great Louis when he famously went for the knockout instead of playing it safe and was knocked out himself in the 13th round.

Louis did rate Conn as the best he ever faced, had him at #1. It's no wonder. If they had been the same size, Louis wouldn't have had a prayer against Conn. Nor would most fighters.

Great fighter. With Archie Moore,Michael Spinks,Ezzard Charles,Bob Foster- I would consider Billy Conn and others listed as the greatest Lt Heavyweights. ps: And Harry Greb.

Billy Conn! He had more guts than most any fighter that's ever laced them up, the heart of a lion, tough as nails. WW2 ruined everything for a lot of people. The rematch with Louis should have happened 6 months later, not 4 years later. Louis was faded, but Conn was completely shot. What a shame.

Before Muhummad Ali danced around the ring Billy Conn did he would of won against the great Joe Louis if he didn't get cocky and try to slug it out with Louis he made a costly mistake regardless Billy Conn was a excellent Light Heavy who came real close to winning the HW title and I'm talking about the first fight

This guy almost beat Joe Louis but decided to go for the KO and Louis Flattened him
Conn was giving Louis a boxing lesson and when u c I can’t knock out your opponent and your quicker better skills just out box but he got stupid and went into deep waters with a shark and got eaten well
Conn had Louis all rounds til the KO
