Nobody hit the speed bag like Floyd Patterson! First two time World Heavyweight Champion, he may have been knocked down more than the other champions, but he got back up more than any champion. Extremely underrated fighter.

Floyd PattersonII Ouu finally well he’s my grandpas uncle and then once he moved my grandpa wasn’t able to see him as much. I really want to connect with my family up north but I’m still young.
I know this the internet where we’ve all got the choice to maintain anonymity but great uncle is so specific I feel like one wouldn’t lie about that lol, I hope that makes sense. If what y’all say is true, did you see how your Uncle was portrayed in the recent Ali documentary on PBS? And what are your thoughts about Ali’s remarks about Patterson in general? The racial issues that were brought up were hot-button & sensitive as much as they were back then as they are now among black athletes no matter the arena.
In 1980 I was boxing in upstate NY. We had a match at Catholic Central HS in my hometown of Troy, NY. We were all in the dressing room getting ready for our fights, when Patterson came in with his team from New Platz. Being a big boxing fan I knew who he was right away. The first thing that I noticed was he looked a lot bigger in person, very wide shoulders and big hands. He looked like he still was in great shape. It was weird as I couldn't stop staring at him and when he walked by, he said how you doing kid? Good sir, was all I could say. It was a real thrill. I had a fight that night and won, but seeing him was the highlight of that day for me. LOL. Funny thing I recall that Cus D'Amato, Kevin Rooney and Teddy Atlas were all there that night. I recall that night clearly as the main event a pretty good fighter from my hometown was having his last amateur fight and then turning pro with Patterson being his manager. His name was Danny Chapman.
@@fredwr Foster didn't cope well with Pressure. I think he would drop Marciano like Moore and Walcott but Rocky would get Bob In the late rounds. As for Patterson? I feel like he would make the same error Mike Quarry did, trade and get starched by Fosters Hook.
Cus found many gems and had a huge contribution to the sweet sport. Cus devoted his whole life to this sport. Rest in peace legend. He had an unparallelled wisdom and understanding of the sport. He was a scientist of the sweet science.
Oh man, the great boxers of history were so graceful. The way they throw punches looks so easy and lightning fast. It’s really something to see them go to work. Patterson was marvelous to watch.
When Ali called him "the rabbit" it was actually a compliment in disguise. Floyd was one of the most jittery and quickest heavies of all time. Really explosive fast twitch muscles. Henry Cooper said his hand speed was higher than Ali. Underrated champion.
Ali was quite the bully. Sorry to say. Even if he was just doing it to hype the match, he did it at the expense of his opponents. That was textbook bullying in that video where he shows up to Floyd's training & calls him the rabbit.
Sonny Liston Liston looked liked a damn Goliath in the ring with Floyd. If they were the same weight I’d give that fight to Patterson because his style was further developed. No hate to sonny, that dude had super strength
Floyd is probably the fastest man to ever box at heavyweight. Cuts D'Amato trained him and he was the prototype as far as the 'peekaboo' style. When he discovered Mike Tyson he found the perfect genetic specimen to take it to another level.
@@topeoyerinde4241 Patterson was just as good as Tyson but Tyson had easier fights that were hand picked for him. Patterson was also way too light for his class, he shouldve fought at middleweight but he was tall.
after his loss to muhammad ali in sep. `72 floyd never officially retired, he went to his home/training camp & kept up his training regimen. he loved the game, trained fighters including his son & kept himself in near fight shape, even though he didn`t fight again.
Daz Burnside Everything can use improvement. The PeekABoo style is Mike Tyson's adaptation of the D'Amato style. No two fighters are the same, so one exact style will work for both of them. A high guard with bobs, weaves and upper body movement is the foundation for the D'Amato style. Anything else is specialised for adaptation to the style.
Joseph Phillips I’m dead-on. Some people are too ignorant that whenever facts oppose what they think is right, they get defensive. It’s natural. If you think I’m wrong, analyse how Patterson or Torres fought and compare it with Tyson’s way of fighting. All three were students of Cus, so why don’t they all fight the exact same?
@@is1hair Patterson and Tyson were similar. Torres had a longer body than Tyson and Patterson. I see a lot of similarities between Tyson and Patterson. The big weaves and leaping left hooks in particular. Also their high guard and angles.
Floyd had great speed and a great style to his fighting positions. Great video man.I can see his style and Mike Tyson style very similar..I think Mike dipped down for the jabs and upper cuts more but very nice Floyd was here.
Man he is so perfect ! So fast, dynamic and genius IQ Also very humble We must keep teach how to love, another and life One of the greatest “legendary” Floyd ❤️❤️
My boyhood boxing hero! Patterson had the "fastest hands" in heavyweight boxing history. He could throw combo-punches of 3 to 4 faster than the eyes could see. His "hands-high" Cus D'Amato taught style would be used by two other D'Amato trained fighters, that would become champions. Jose Torres and Mike Tyson, along with Patterson, made D'Amato one of the All Time great trainers. When Floyd war "robbed" in both Quarry fights, he behaved like the Champion he always was. Not bitter and kept the outrageous decision inside. He was also robbed in the Jimmy Ellis Championship Fight later. A 15-round fight that see-sawed back and forth with Floyd winning most of the rounds, only to lose because of cock-eyed judges. Floyd as just a little past his best days when he fought Ellis, but he had trained hard, as he always did, and took it to Ellis. Ellis, at the end of the 15th round had a head swollen to the size of a number 2 wash tub. Nose broke, eyes swollen, and a bee sting look all over that beat-up head. Floyd capped his career with a great performance against Ali. A close fight that ended early from a cut eye on Patterson. Up to that point, 7th round if memory serves, it was anybody's fight. He was 37-years of age at fight time with Ali. A champion, in the ring and out. Proud to call him my boyhood hero!
Straight up, your videos are the best on all of youtube. The combination of footage plus the beats, I just can't get enough. I mean the music is so perfect
Any old timers here remember his training camp in Highland Mills, NY (Mountainville) from back in the early 60's? There was an old 3-story residence on the grounds there that I lived in years later, in the late 70's. Anyone?
Floyd Patterson was a great fighter. Superb skills and lightning quick. Had Marciano not retired, I think Floyd would have beaten him for the title. It's sad that his legacy was spoiled by the two Liston fights, also the first with Johansson. He was over-protected by the cautious D'Amato and I feel we never saw the best of him. A true gentleman also.

@Weed420 69Sex Of course not always love smokin joe my favourite.👍🥊
imagine him as a light heavyweight, absolute monster...
Him and Rocky as light heavy weights.they still have a rough time beating Bob Foster though.

Truly ahead of his time not a lot of people were explosive like that and have that leaping left hook. Gift from god
He was truly amazing, especially considering his size (190lbs), an all time great🐐💯

I hear ya man off to gym now!!!

SAME HERE! He beat that speed bag & heavy bag, like they banged his woman! DAMN...

👍 RDB.
Same!
Always happy when I see a new rainy day boxing upload
Pure and Raw talent!! True Legend. May he never be forgotten! Thank you for helping to keep his memory alive
Probably one of the most under rated boxer
The greatest fighter to ever hold the name Floyd!
No doubt.
now some asshole is going to dislike the video

Nothing better than watching these before a training session, keep them coming. They are motivating, inspiring and captivating.
No fancy shit just good honest training. 👊🏽
What a legend.
