Tony Canzoneri - Was an American professional boxer. A three-time world champion, he held a total of five world titles. Canzoneri is a member of the exclusive group of boxing world champions who have won titles in three or more divisions. Canzoneri won his first title, the World Featherweight title, with a 15-round decision over Benny Bass on February 10, 1928. He retained that title one time and then went up in weight and challenged World Lightweight Champion Sammy Mandell, losing by a decision in ten rounds. But in 1930, Mandell was knocked out in the first round by Al Singer and lost his title and Canzoneri, who had already beaten Singer by a ten-round decision before, challenged Singer for the title on November 14, 1930, knocking him out in the first round to become a two division world champion. In defeat, Singer made history by becoming the first man, and only man up until John Mugabi, to both win and lose the title by knockout in the first round.

One of the best boxers of all time! Three weight world champion.
haNZAgod hey champ really good video on this legend. One of my favorites of all time. Can you please do a video on Mustafa Hamsho. Thanks for your work
Wow.. never heard of him... As a boxing fan! Considering.. my NY family Grandfather Uncle Cuz was are Tony Canzoneri! Weird.... Gonna dig now! Came across this due to Mike Tyson talking about Kid Chocolate
Canzoneri was a complete boxer. A throw forward. He fought, hands down, lethal, dancing feet. One of the all time greats.
He is my great great uncle.
He was something special God bless him!!
Sup cuz
Along with Marciano and Pep, he is on the pantheon of amazing, all time great Italian American fighters. Another incredible resume, fought them all, beat most of them and was always ready to go again. 171 fights and not stopped until his very last bout. Can't say enough about him. Clearly top 10 or 15 all time great!
don't forget Jake Lamotta he was a great italian american boxer
@@massimosgarbini3982 Way underrated and much malighned. People that disrespect him don't understand how boxing was done then ( and I would argue now). He was a great fighter.
@@constantine7382 yes
@@romanboxing3959 I was talking about LaMotta being disrespected.
As far as Canzoneri, I rate him VERY high at lightweight. I know how I rate him isn't important but he was a GREAT fighter.
Like Ruben Olivares Wifredo Gomez s, they are not the greatest of their ethnicity, as Tina Turner put it. They are simply the best.Tony Canozeri has the fundamentals locked 🔒 down. Plus, extremely athletic and was game to go tit for TAT, which equals Magic 🎩. Fun Fact Tony C was an honorary member of the Bonanoo Famiglia . It's sad when I walk past the Bryant Hotel in Manhattan, I always proclaim loudly at the top of my lungs, right in There died The Lightweight Chapeen of The World 🌎.
He’s my great uncle! Thanks for sharing!
Your uncle is my top #5 p4p fighter of all time.
Me too he's my great uncle
Really underrated, in my top 10 pound-4-pound fighters of all time.
Same here
One of my 4 all-time favorite boxers. All-time great that no one talks about (Bert Sugar had him ranked #12 of all time)
Seamless punch motion.
That side-step to the left followed by a counter right hand at 1:47 of the video is the TRUTH.
He was a little guy too, started as a bantam, then feather then lightweight up to welterweight. Most of his fights he was fighting guys who were naturally bigger than him. Rare talent, one of the very best ever.
Great choice! One of the greatest of the great, Robinson, Armstrong, Pep, Greb.... his name is up there too in my book.
Tony Canzoneri was simply a wonderful all-around performer in the ring. He competed in an era of great fighters and always acquitted himself well whether he won or lost a bout.
Those exchanges with Kid Chocolate. Damn.
Hey, Lou -- long time no see...
You may have trained far more boxers than me -- but I had the privilege of training Iron Mike Tyson with Kevin Rooney and Cus D'amato in the '80s.
Never seen footage of Canzoneri till now. He looks very adept, don't he?
Best boxing highlight channel. If not for Lee wylie(analysis) and Fran sands(training), it'd be the best boxing channel. All the boxing news channels suck.
Canzoneri was an Exceptional Fighter!
He's Number 9 All Tine
What a great fighter!!
Thanks for the video!
according to the great Benny Leonard, "a textbook boxing that no one can copy."
Thank you so much for presenting the highlights of this wonderfully talented boxer. He is one of many who graced the Golden Age era of professional boxing.
Tony is the #1 ranked boxer out of Louisiana. I’ll be joining him and Prograis in the top ten out of Louisiana soon…
He was rated as the 12th greatest boxer of all time by Bert Randolph Sugar and I think he was right!, Tony was a truly great boxer / puncher 🥊
Powerfully built, slick and brave. Top notch!
This guy is from Louisiana 🐐
Number 9 All Time Tony Canzonari
My great uncle, no lie ☺️ proud asl
You have every right to be proud! Great man, great fighter, great American. Equally proud to carry his bloodline and that of all the great Italian American fighters. Italian Americans period!

@@killswitch3021 my grandfather is Joseph William Canzoneri, that’s Tony’s first cousin.
I wish there was more footage of when he was young
eminently beautiful fighting
He was a distant cousin but he died when I was 1 year old so I never got to meet him but my father did.
Incredible and beautiful work, by far my favorite boxing channel
This is my third generation cousin. Direct descendant.
Thank you!! Be Blessed!!
Great video
Great work as usual!
Canzoneri was an all time great, crafty, slick counter puncher who loved to set traps.
An all time great fantasy fight (due to styles) would have been prime Canzoneri vs. prime Armstrong at 135.
Number 9 All Time
Thats a great matchup. But i think Armstrong would win but in a very close fight. Because Armstrong beat Barney Ross. And Barney Ross beat Canzoneri twice. I know that styles make fight. But Armstrong was relentless.
@@husain4718 I agree it would be close either way. Lou Ambers (Canzoneri's old sparring partner) gave Armstrong many, many problems in their 2 controversial fights (Ambers won 1 and Armstrong won 1). A prime Canzoneri was a craftier counter-puncher than Ambers, and had sneaky power. I can definitely see a prime Canzoneri doing to Armstrong what Baby Arizmendi did to him for many fights, but past prime - Armstrong's pace would be too much to handle.
Amazing
💯.
SAYF CARMAN ,WHO HAS THE GREATEST MMA COMMENTARY CHANNEL ON THE WEB, BROUGHT ME HERE!
He’s ranked as the best ever from Louisiana.
I want to know how fighters develop this excellent head movement. I had read somewhere that Ali had his brother throw rocks at Ali until Ali was able to dodge every single one, which provided him the finesse he needed to slip punches as he did in the 60s. Very interesting.
Super Didou Oh yeah, I train boxing so I understand the weave work under the rope. What I'm always amazed at when I see a guy like this or Pernell Whitaker or George Benton is how they are nearly untouchable. Makes me wonder what uncanny training and theorizing they did to acquire said skills.
NeoGodHand keep practicing, dedicate a training session for your movements
Most the good trainers to my knowledge had a myriad of drills for head movement and footwork, but the experience is also key, these guys were more than comfortable in the pro ring with so much activity and built up so many fights that they were smooth

Music? May I request a Raul Juarez highlight?
Apocalyptica - Farewell
This "frog's" boxing skills seem to be quite PINOCCHIO-refined: He moves his head, in a very adept defensive way to avoid getting hit. He has lots of speed and power in those punches, many of which are very UNtelegraphed.
Off the record, the 1970s was a time in which there was a lot of generic "flute and drum" music -almost like some kind of a Native American revival.
I really like the "violin and drum" music which plays in the FOREGROUND of this video......so much better than the music of many other youtube videos.
