"Carved upon my stone, my body lies but still I roam" is such a bad ass lyric
And that will be what becomes of James et. all when they pass, just like Cliff.. their spirits will roam everywhere their music is heard.

Seeing Lex jam out to Metallica is one of my favorite things. 🤘
Her reactions may be the most fun to watch on all of RUclips
@@PaulChapmanPcTech agreed
She knows her music but her movements are all wrong. Like a white person dancing to rap, but a black girl awkwardly headbanging
@@CoboProdz but it works lol. She pulls it off, and her smile is infectious.

Heard this song a million times but it never gets old, pure brilliance.
The black album is timeless and not restricted to the trappings of the decade
My favorite song on this album
@@metallicnole4514 yeah man!

Their first three albums were
100 % better...
Absolutely! I could hear it 5 times a day and I'd still get hyped when I hear that intro.
Why can’t Brad understand the concept that music doesn’t need words or lyrics to be enjoyable? Lex is right, music is an art form and can be enjoyed without words to singalong to
“And the Earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone
I ask no one! “
One of my favourite Metallica Lyrics, I relate to it a lot and I bet a lot of people does 🤘
Leaving home and living in foreign land for last 8 years gives me the same vibe. But not throne, a new home where I lay my head for sure.
I`m climber, caver and mountaineer. Earth is my throne, there I adapt to the unknown, at night under wandering stars I`ve grown, sometimes with friends, sometimes by myself but not alone.
I'm a long haul trucker, if anyone can relate to this whole song it's me but especially that lyric
Your lyrics are missing caps when HET SCREAMS IT!!! YEAH!!!
“Sad but true” also on the black album is a must.
Ya, Lex said Metallica wasn't heavy. I guess they haven't heard Sad But True. Lol
That's my fave from that album
In case you missed it - they just did this one a little over a week ago:

It's all a must man.
Absolutely!
Can't go wrong on the first 5 Metallica Albums....each and everyone being masterpieces!!!!!
Spot on 👍
First 7
@Susan Kerr I actually agree Susan....number 5 was their commercial breakthrough but wasn't as good as the previous ones!
First 10
Don't dismiss 90s albums, Load is a very good album, different but still good.
James's vocal and stage presence is so damn alpha. He MAKES you pay attention
Hes the manliest man... Mastodon guitarist copied him
Hetfield late 80's with the mullet and arm bands could've easily been a marvel action figure. Dude was legit intimidating.
YES!
But this song is the epitome of the 'Sigma' trope!..
Yes. And we love it. \m/
Theres some people that enjoy Willie Nelson's on the road again and others that enjoy Metallica's wherever I may roam.
Then there's the rare bread that rock out to both.
🤘🤘
I always rock out to both
"I'm at home 'cause i'm me."
Gotta love Lex's insights. Period.
Lex had such an awesome vibe and spirit; I love her enthusiasm.
Hearing Lex describe how the instrumental part of Metallica takes her on a journey is amazing. Metallica’s music tells a story without any lyrics 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I never thought of this but, I wonder the reason this song has that gypsy vibe at the beginning is because gypsy life style is to roam from place to place.....wherever they may roam! 🤯
That’s common sense homes…and the sitar obviously
and the harmonic minor/arabic scale used throughout the entire focking song lol
Brad bless him, very entertaining to watch him slowly being turned into a rock appreciating geezer!

The Black album Have a Heavy style, with Slower Beats. I think That suits him well for the takling the first real Step into Metal. This was my entrance to Trash Metal. at that Point in life i don't think i could have handled the Earlier Stuff from Metallica. But after this It all Came Quick
@@frankhermansen243 that's exactly it. An album like Black album is the lube that gets your earholes ready for the heavy metal courgette that is thrash.
Lex's insight on music is amazing
“My Friend of Misery”, also from the Black Album is a great song to check out too. 🤘🤘🤘
Best song on the album in my opinion
Ayyy first song I ever learned on bass
That along with 'The God That Failed'
Oh yes, I love it!
Yeeaahhh🤘🏻🤘🏻
Brad always seems uptight with rock ! Every song u don’t need to know every word just vibe with it bro! Lol
Exactly 🤦♂️
"Fact"!
This is true. Brad, sometimes you need to just FEEL the music and EXPERIENCE the sound without trying so hard to analyze or figure out the meaning if the lyrics. I might suggest following Lex's lead a bit more in order to get maximum enjoyment out of music. However I must add that you've come a long way and I encourage you to keep exploring and listening to rock and metal,as I think you're actually starting to appreciate it more every time.I love your reactions...Lex is always spot on with the energy and feels, and you bring the inquiry and like to delve more into the meaning of songs.a great balance!!what an awesome couple!!thanks for making me smile!!😄
I actually like how they experience music differently :)
I’ve never been much on the lyrics. I don’t worry with interpretation or symbolism, I’m an instrumental person. I like focusing on the music: melodies, riffs, drums, etc. I’m not one of those that says Metallica “saved” me because the lyrics “spoke” to me, it’s the music and the melodies that grab my attention. Lyrics have always been secondary to me. But, that’s just me.
Lex reminds me of my girl, who's also black. She never really listened to metal before we met, but now she's hooked on it, ESPECIALLY Metallica. Keep on rocking y'all 🤘🏼
Who gives a fuck what color she is
The song is about what it's like for their band to be touring around the world. It's ups and downs, and in between.
Or it's about the free spirit that moves anywhere the wind blows..
Its vague on purpose James isnt Dave
This is one of my fav Metallica songs. I LOVE Jason's bass on this one, well, I love Jason. Period.
Jason 🤟🏻😎❤️
Every band has a rockstar "life on the road" song....this is one of theirs
I see your implication there. So you want to do this vs what? Killing Road by 'Deth?
@@oldkid8811 what the hell are you talking about?
I saw them in Memphis when I was 47. The kids around me on the floor were like "Your such a cool old man" I was like I have been rocking out since I was 14 seeing Black Sabbath live.
Just went to my first recital of them last Saturday. Best day ever, cool old guys, and reckless young bastards. When the Ecstasy of Gold started I immediately forgot about my tired body from doing voluntary recycling work all day.
I love how she completely gets into the music!he’s funny too, they compliment each other nicely.I love seeing people discover metal for the first time

You two are the best reaction couple out there. And Lex, you are a rare gem!!! Love you guys... keep rocking on! ❤🤘❤
How can you not understand the lyrics in this one? James sings them clear as a bell.
Ya ,but songs can have many meanings and most artists, including Metallica like it when people relate to their songs differently. The meaning Lex gleaned from could also work for this song.
James is vague n ambiguous on purpose, he is not political, Dave does that
Has it ever occurred to you that Metallica makes their songs ambiguous so that they mean different things to different people?
I see some of you have completely misunderstood my comment. I was not talking about the meaning of the song. Though I do think that is pretty straight forward in this one. But I was referring only to the clarity in which James sings the lyrics.
Lex always has the right vibe! As far as lyrics go, get them before you do the reaction so you know what is happening. ;-)

Lol I love this girl! She’s rocking out and Brad is just chillin’! Love that!
This would not be considered “old Metallica”. The black album was considered the album that departed from their old sound, which caused some backlash with some older fans as they thought Metallica were going commercial with slower, less complicated, more melodic and radio friendly songs… even though Metallica have stated that it was more of a pairing down of their music to focus on the essential elements. I personally love the black album, and this is my favorite song on it, but this was definitely the transition point towards “contemporary” Metallica.
You're definitely right but it was also released 3 decades ago which means it's older than Lex so she gets to call it old Metallica. ;)
100% agree.👍this was the album where they started to "sell out" and they lost a lot of old fans because this album was a softer side of Metallica. I also would.like to say that this album does still have a few tracks that rock out and kick ass though.this song is one of those rocking tracks that made the album worth a listen for me.also, through the never is a good track from this album.🙂
“Sell out” is just so wrong…name a rock band on par with Metallica who put out a catalog of albums that didn’t experiment with new sounds. When you’ve been around for decades things change. The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Queen…they all adapted, experimented, grew, and aged…yet it’s only Metallica that gets hate for it. So the Black album was more radio friendly…who cares, it’s still full of bangers. Personally I think James singing ability got better with age, and musically the guys got better also. Yeah St. Anger was mostly a turd, but there is 2-3 songs worth listening to. Garage inc. is a good covers album, S&M is a really good chill one.
I was still on board with Reload. Then, they lost it. I blame James alcohol issues. Also Lars being a moron.
Yeah. But not as much as LOAD, OH MY GOD! METALLICA IS A SELL OUT BAND. They CUT THEIR HAIR! LMAO. ok. yeah. they suck. has been sell out band still packing stadiums around the world. I still laugh so hard when I think of the people who thought Metallica was the greatest band in the world....for one album.
This song is a favorite of mine and has been an anthem, of sorts, for me. Long ago I drove across the US - wandering - listening to this song when it was brand new. Decades later I retired early and have been wandering the planet for 2 years now. It is unusual, but I feel at home and calm when I am wandering. Greetings from Bath, England :) Thx for the rxn!
Cheers. From America. Bath is on my top five favorite places I would just love to see on the planet.
@@tracysnow349 It is a beautiful place. So civilized and calm as well. Wealthy city as well. My example: Bristol (500,000+ pop.) is just 20 minutes away and has an Apple store. Bath with just 80,000 people ALSO has an Apple store. I have been to 100+ cities/towns outside the US - the world is a pretty amazing/interesting place :)) I travel as it is my priority and I live very simply. But still, feel very lucky that things worked out for me to live this way.
@@ReflectionTool637 Oh. Great. Thanks for making me so happy with my existence in my teeny tiny mountain town. An Apple store? Really? Ok. Not what I was picturing about Bath. LOL!
@@tracysnow349 hahahaha ;) sorry, Apple is everywhere there is $ £ €. Capitalism is everywhere ;) Having said that, the commercial districts in all these cute "tourist" cities have to compete with 1,000 year old churches and such. So, there is that! Have been all over the US and seen mountain towns from Maine to Arizona to Montana. The western US has the most varied natural beauty of any region I have seen on this planet. This really is true.
@@ReflectionTool637 It's true. I am born in Utah and have lived in the Pacific Northwest for almost 30 years. Southern Utah is not to be missed by anyone. Lived in Colorado for five years growing up. Where I live is about as far east of Seattle as you can get without heading toward Idaho. I love the mountains. My dad is born in England but came to U.S. when he was five years old. I long to see the British Isles. All of them. And, yeah, I am a Jane Austin fan. LOL!
I love watching Lex rock out, she always seems so happy and just into the music. Reminds me so much of when I first discovered Metallica. Rock on Lex!
I left home with no money, no vehicle, no nothing. I ended up travelling the country, working from spot to spot for 3 years. This song had just come out a couple months after I started my journey, it seemed as if this song was made specifically for me.
How did you travel the country with no money?
@@jack-of-all-trades1234 I started by hitch hiking, after I made it to Florida I worked day labor till I had enough to move to the next spot. The start was the worst because I had to sleep wherever I could for the first three nights, then found the day labor office. Eventually I ended up travelling with a carnival for about a year.

Metallica will always be my favorite band. I love everything they do. You just can't go wrong with them. People complain about their stuff after this album a lot. But you just have give it all a chance.
Fun fact about metalica...They once held a notoriety of having the fastest drum beat in a song..."Dyers Eve" clocking at 300 BPM...listening closely it sounds close to the idea of a playing card rattling in the spokes of a bicycle while gliding down a steep hill...you should check it out

Yes Metallica gives me life as well always has. Even when I'm at my lowest it brings me back full of life.
You just gave me chills with that comment. When I cannot get myself to go on they make it real again and I have to pick it up and keep moving on...even if it's just cuz I'm not sure sure there is anything better on the other side than the sound of Metallica at high disciples.
Kirk Wha-mmet brings out the best in Lex! That energy though, you can't beat it, and how it lights people up the first time they hear it and love it!
This is all about being at home while touring on the road because of the fans.."by myself but not alone" the riff is awesome backed up the the drums and the guitar solos kill it.
They went from 18 months on the road, into the studio for Black Album then spent 3 years straight touring for it. Late 80s early 90s they were home maybe a total of 3 months out of the 6/7 years between album releases.
The Metallica instrumental trio of "The Call of Ktulu", "Orion", and "To Live Is To Die" would be an epic video. Just to see Lex's face!

I haven’t listened to metal or Metallica in many years. Metallica was awesome. Amazing musicians. The guitars and drums are always amazing. Killer song!
I’m from honduras! I remember the first time I listened this song in 2007, I was 17! Was 1pm and I recognised a masterpiece immediately!
when i first heard this song live, i was coming back from the bathroom at the dome they were preforming at and the beginning just flew a huge surge of energy through me as i went back to their preformance
Lex is truly a guitar 🎸 girl !!! When she picks up that left hand and starts waving it, she's into the song
I never knew this video version cuts out my favorite part of the song (the harmony riff after the first chorus).
I love the constant drive of those song. They don't ever let up.
I love watching y’all … it’s like two reactions for the price of one … seemingly opposites however fit so well together!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 for the record, Lex and the way she feels music is definitely my people 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I realize that this a very old video but I have to say that Lex has great insight into the artists intentions whether it is meant to invoke certain feelings or emotions through the lyrics or it is meant to free your mind of everything except what you are hearing at that exact moment in time or to transport you to another place and time so you feel what the artist has created for you.
There are very few songwriters, composers, and performers who have the creative talent to even realize it is possible to have that affect on people's minds and emotions let alone to be able to create the means to make it happen. Anyone who is not receptive to letting an art form move them spiritually whether it be music, paintings, sculptures, etc will never experience the emotional connection that occurs when you feel something so deeply that it touches your soul. Lex gets it but Brad I think not so much because he always takes everything so literally that he can never just let his mind be free and sit back, experience, and feel the meaning of anything.
Out of all their songs .. the beat to this gives me a lead foot everytime it comes on when I'm driving.
One of the best takes I’ve ever heard… appreciate you two, good stuff.
Lex, you have the charisma to be a rock God, the way you feel the songs and the way you move to the beat, you’ve got the whole package girl. You’d be in that category of ‘go hard or go home.’ YOU ROCK LEX 🤘
The solo's on this album are some of Hammett's best IMO...
Agreed.. black album is my favorite from Metallica no question.. His guitar solos don’t get the credit they deserve him and slash sound very similar the way they build up a solo to really make you feel it and totally match the feel of the song that’s what I love about Metallica.. every song is like a rollercoaster

Lex rockin out is the reason im here. Commenting before watching
We were born on Earth so anywhere you roam is home. He also talks about being a spirit without a body because the physical part of him is in the ground dead, so he is now what we call a ghost. I love the songs that talk about how things operate here.
I have loved this song >.since the first time I heard it. It has become my favorite. You both are awesome 👌
Lex is in her bag again and all the thumbs are up! Best air guitarist in the game🎸🥁
That version in the official music video left out a cool little part before the solo that bridges from the main riff to the solo. The album version is awesome and the version with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra is amazing. That whole show with the orchestra was mind-blowing. I guess there have been two shows with the orchestra and they're both incredible.

i always thought this song was a comment on how they pretty much grew up on the road, kind of ironic this song was on their breakthrough album and they toured the damn thing for more than three years. this tour was my first concert....lol nice
I always took this song to mean basically what it shows in the video: Life on the road, while the band's touring.
Yeah, exactly
"My body lies, But Still I roam."
It's good to see Brads head is starting to loosen up and move with the music.
I believe the more he listens the more he will get it and some day enjoy it as much as Lex does.
Every time I pray. I’m bye myself but NOT ALONE.
There’s an acknowledgment to the spiritual dimension that surrounds us.
lol. i never associated the gypsy sound at the beginning with the roam lyrics! 30 years later and you taught me something about a song I know front to back. Great job.
James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich wrote "Wherever I May Roam" about life on the road. And about the weary travels during, and at the end of the tour. Kirk Hammett was quoted saying after the Wherever I May Roam tour, "I bought a house last year that I haven't even seen yet!"
Great reaction ! Thx !!! G'Day from Australia !
Lucky enough to see them twice in early 80’s and again in early 90’s Phenomenal talent. Just awsome in concert.
