The great Roberta Flack. Hathaway unfortunately took his life and from what I understand Roberta donated the proceeds from this song to Hathaway’s family, truth. First time ever I saw your Face, give it a try👌🏻
It's not OFFICIALLY Christmas UNTIL the following songs are played and in no particular order: This Christmas, Silent Night by The Temptations, That's What Christmas Means To Me or Ava Maria by Stevie Wonder, Give Love On Christmas Day and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus by The Jacksons, Please Come Home For Christmas and Merry Christmas, Baby by Charles Brown and the 2 songs from Charlie Brown, with a piece of Red Velvet cake and non alcoholic egg nog ...... #SoThisISChristma
Their slow jams are phenomenal but in 1980 Roberta and Donny had a tremendous dance hit, “Back Together Again”, which you must check out! It’s a banger with an incredible groove!
Dropping in 1977 this song reached #2 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the Hot Soul Singles charts becoming an instant classic. RIP to the great Donny Hathaway, this has become one of Roberta’s signature songs (in which she has many) glad you guys found this one.
There's something about Donny's voice that just gets me. His daughter Lalah was also blessed with the same vocal talent. Give her a listen with her hit ''Wrong Way'' for one of your next female Fridays.
Roberta Flack, Karen Carpenter, Gloria Estefan. These great singers don't try and scream out of their range. They just use their God given talent and sing like angels.
Ms Roberta Flack is a magical breath of angelic soul...mr Donny Hathaway was a masterful gem.. they have a few beautiful duets together and were very close friends.. mr Hathaway story is a sad tell of how easily we ignore mental illness..
Classic kids. I have been busy taking care of sick and elderly. I haven't been able to get to ya'll lately. Roberta is one of my dreamy favorites. This is one of my many all time favorites. They are beautiful together. Back in time again kids. Thank you for this. I sang Vanessa Williams song " Save the Best For Last" at a retirement home today. You got this Grandma singing again after 30 years . What a gift. Bless you and your family. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Outstanding Pic guys!!! Two of the most beautiful voices ever. Have you two reacted "THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE" BY ROBERTA FLACK, I BELIEVE IN WAS SONG OF THE YEAR IN THE EARLY 1970S. one of the most beautiful songs ever. And it's mainly Roberta's voice, hardly an instrument
Same! Have to agree re 80s/90s my fav for soul. But what I enjoy about the 70s tho is the variety of genres and vibes. Also have to acknowledge 60s and 70s are the foundation for most of the remakes and sampling until today. @@littlecatfeet9064
My eyes water when I hear music like this because it reminds me of how much I miss my parents and grandparents generation. I'm a 80s baby raised in the late 80s and 90s but the 70s always held a special place in my heart and I never experienced it. Based on my parents photos, my families stories, Hollywood movies and old footage, that was an era, I'm sure I would've loved. I'm what you call an "OLD SOUL". The music and fashion was amazing. People seemed healthier and happier despite the bad economy of the 70s.
For years Roberta was Carly Simon’s neighbor in NYC, living in the same apartment building. She provided a ton of amazing background vocals for Carly’s songs, esp on the “Coming Around Again” album. Great song reaction selection! Check out “Do What You Gotta Do” by RF.
I don’t think “underrated” is the compliment you think it means. You’re implying that even though it’s a great song, it never got attention from people. You and those that use “underrated” as a compliment need to use it in its correct context.
One further point, I was referring to Roberta Flack, not specifically to the song. He voice is so good she should have had a lot more success, both then and now. My opinion!
This was THE song at high school dances (1977-78) that...when you heard those opening drum beats and high notes...you went scrambling/looking for "slow jam" girls to slow-dance with. (not to be confused with "fast-dance" girls: platonic friends, mere acquaintances...the homely daughter of your mom's best friend...or your buddy's shy sister who you had to dance at least once with...to fast/up-tempo songs... in order to make them happy/as a favor for your mom/your buddy). But THIS song---was reserved for the "slow jam" girls. (Same with Heatwave's "Always and Forever")
YES!! Just played this on Pandora last week. On permanent playlist ❤. Back when music was beautiful, respectful, and could stand the test of time!!! As others have said, “Where Is The Love” next 😊
Beautiful vocals from both. They were so great together and individually. I suggest 'Back Together Again' for an upbeat one from this duo. Thanks for reacting to this.
Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway voices blended so well. May i suggest you to try "Love Won't Let Me Wait" by the late great Major Harris. Love You, guys!
3:33 They did a handful of good songs together. You should also try "back together again". Good bass line and will probably have you bouncing in your seat.
Co written by James Mtume who would later form the group Mtume. Their signature song is 'Juicy Fruit' which would later be sampled for the Notorious B.I.G. song 'Juicy'.
I remember when I was a kid I heard this great voice singing on the television. I went into the next room to see who it was and discovered it was the theme song to a show called Maude sung by Donny Hathaway. That's how I started watching the show.
I didn’t know Donny sang the Maude theme song. I’ve been rewatching Moonlighting, and I’d forgotten that Al Jarreau sang the theme song. It’s beautiful, haunting, and soulful.
We lost Donny far too soon. His solo work is amazing; you'll have to listen to his song "Someday We'll All Be Free" sometime. And I agree with others here, the next Roberta & Donny duet you want to check out is "Where Is the Love," from 1972. Great harmonies!
Also check out "Set The Night to Music" with Maxi Priest (#6 in 1991) "Where is the Love?", also with Donny (#5 in 1972) "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" with Peabo Bryson (#16 in 1983)
Been waiting for this one, Roberta Flack is on a very short list of the best singers of the 20th century and Donny Hathaway is right there with her and the song brings out the best of them both ❤️❤️
Another beautiful soul ballad from the 70's was Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright (Stevie Wonder's first wife) "With You I'm Born Again" You want an intense soul ballad you gotta react to "Feel the Fire" by Stephanie Mills and Teddy Pendergrass.
Guys I don't know if you'll be doing a special christmas editions at the end of the year but I would recommend Donny Hathaway This Christmas. One of if not the greatest R&B Christmas Song that I've ever had, you won't regret listening to it if you've never heard it before.
OMG, such a beautiful and dreamy song from my high school years in 1978. All ai can say this is one sophisticated and emotional vocal performances that I've ever heard. React to "Where is the love" Their other duet from 1972
Great reaction guys another great Roberta Flack duet is Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You with Peabo Bryson more great Peabo songs that you guys need to react to are I’m So Into You, I Love The Way You Love, Beauty and the Beast theme with Celine Dion (1991) and A Whole New World with Regina Belle from the 1992 Disney film Aladdin keep up the great work guys
Donny Hathaway's voice made all of the difference with this song & "Where Is The Love", which I love even more than this great song.
Sadly he died a year after this song. Maxi Priest did a nice job with her in 1991 with their cover of "Set The Night To Music".
Where is the Love is one of my most favorite songs ❤
That was beautiful
Like a good cake or food rescipe it’s all in the mix hang on to the softness of the end of the words especially the way they say me too…
That’s a great song too.
Roberta and Donny sung many duets together, but the one that won them a Grammy was "Where Is The Love?". Gotta react to that one next. Thanks. 😎
Her "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is so worth the listen.
Yes, while you are listening.... Dial up the movie *Play Misty For Me* It gave her career a big boost....thanks to that guy in the movie who chose it.
R.I.P. Donnie Hathaway. Where's is the love by them needs to be done
Agreed ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🏽
Yessssssssssss! I love the energy of "Where Is the Love." This song gets more recognition but "Where" was first and my preference!
Unfortunately losing him too soon to such a tragic death.
"Where is the Love" will tug at your heartstrings.
Their duet 'Where Is The Love' is one you have to do! So many great hits from these two!
PATTI AUSTIN - " Baby Come To Me " 1981 LP Version HQ. Duet w/ James Ingram // an Amazing Romance Classic Song and Beautiful Melodies
Jay & Amber, you'll LOVE Roberta's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" !!!!!! Also "Where Is the Love" with Donny!!!
Yes, please!
Yes. The First Time is literally a revelation..
The great Roberta Flack. Hathaway unfortunately took his life and from what I understand Roberta donated the proceeds from this song to Hathaway’s family, truth. First time ever I saw your Face, give it a try👌🏻
Anyone remember her duet with Maxi Priest called Set the night to music? I always liked that song.
@@caryriggs6000 Yes👍🏻
Their pairing was heaven made.
When I think of Donny Hathaway I think of the song "This Christmas"
Definitely worth a listen at Christmastime!
His is the only version that matters!
You are my heaven. Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway! Written by Stevie Wonder
The perfect duet! Donny and Roberta are a pairing made in music heaven.
Roberta Flack has the voice that angels listen to
Nicely put!
Donnie and Roberta were on fire with their duets. Back Together, Where Is The Love, You've Got A Friend, just a taste of what they could do together.
RIP Donny Hathaway, this song always makes me quite tearful! I never get tired of listening to it!💖

One of my favorite songs !
Just Breathe is awesome too! Her voice is incredible!
Donny Hathaway is a rabbit hole worth going down into.
“ Feel Like Makin Love” another Roberta Flack hits
Roberta Flack, Karen Carpenter, Gloria Estefan. These great singers don't try and scream out of their range. They just use their God given talent and sing like angels.
Karen(RIP), was Gloria’s biggest influence. If you close your eyes you’ll hear Karen when Gloria sings.

Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson: "Tonight I Celebrate My Love " Thank you.
Peabo is a criminally overlooked singer, and I will always give props to Modern Family for referencing him as Phil's Dunphy's favorite singer!
@@stevechabalik6985 Agreed 😊
"Where is The Love" by them is beautiful.
Perfect duet. Donny and Roberta were so unique and amazing as vocalists. Just powerhouses on how they could really captivate you with their music.
Two of the most beautiful voices ever.
These two people truly loved each other. That's why their music is so real.
PERFECT example of the greatest decade of music...1970s!
Yes it is, the 70s were far and away, music's best decade.
@@chrisoakley5830I’m going to vote for the 80s, but soul music was at its peak in the 60s and 70s.

It had to be ... that decade created us, right? lol
Roberta and Donny have another more uptempo duet titled, "Where is The Love" ❤
Great song!! Another beautiful duet is Marilyn McCoo and husband Billy Davis Jr “ You Don’t Have To Be a Star”

Duet with Peabo Bryson and Roberta "tonight I celebrate my love for you " is powerful. Bo and Hope forever😂😂
Their voices were floating on the instruments instead of competing with the instruments. Great arrangement.

I did not know that! Huge Carly fan….
I have that soundtrack what's Coming Around Again on it.
Another neighbor and close friend: Yoko Ono ❤
"Where Is The Love" is outstanding. They sang together on that one rather than alternating verses, and the music is so good.
Criminally underrated! The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by roberta flack is her biggest hit
Not. Never has been under rated
I don’t think “underrated” is the compliment you think it means. You’re implying that even though it’s a great song, it never got attention from people. You and those that use “underrated” as a compliment need to use it in its correct context.
It implies it did not get near enough attention then, since, or now! I know exactly what i is was saying but thank you anyway.

Donny Hathaway, to this day I feel a deep sense of loss whenever I hear his name or the sound of his voice.
I love Roberta Flack. One of the best female voices in .usic.
I ADORE this song. So pretty...

I've always loved how smooth this song is
Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway voices blended so well. May i suggest you to try "Love Won't Let Me Wait" by the late great Major Harris. Love You, guys!
Getting close to 600K. We really need to get you two to 1 MIL because you are my fav reaction channel.
Both of the duets (this one and "Where is the Love") that these two singers performed together were pure magic.
The clarity and sweetnes of those voices. Woow
This was our wedding song 38 years ago! Beautiful song, great pick!! Check out their "Where is the Love", equally beautiful!!

Roberta has one of the greatest voices ever, all of her songs sound like a classic.
I got to see her perform a private concert with fewer than 250 people. Magical.
Roberta Flack, beautiful voice. I love first time ever I saw your face!
Roberta's album "Blue Lights In The Basement" was purchased after I heard this amazing song.
Love, love, love "Why Don't You Move In With Me". Priceless!!
