That shower is totally brilliant! I've been researching ways of having a shower in a van without using up the space of a dedicated bathroom, and this is perfect. The ability to let it all dry in place (instead of packing everything away wet) makes it even better than an enclosed shower cubicle!
Yes, it is nice. But Roadtrek long ago figured out the ultimate usability, compactness, comfort and efficiency in their center aisle shower. Nothing comes remotely close to its usefulness. Why build a van when Roadtrek figured out 90% of what you could ever ask for? Modify it to get the other 10% and done.

This is the best way to utilize a shower in such a small living area. Period. There is also one more thing you can do to improve it even more. Make it re-circulating. You will need a good filtration system to do that and filters will need maintenance but the long showers will pay you off.

I am looking to work for the conservation corps in the us, and having lived rurally with my grandma i am confident i would like and thrive doing van life!! cheers!!
@@EatSleepVan I did 🙂. I ordered a 2021 Ford E350 cutaway van with a 7 X 14 box on it before all the virus started. I had planned a transit van because you and I are the same height and the Transit is the only option. But the transit doesn't have enough tow rating to pull a modified jeep plus trailer across the Rocky mountains. The 7.3 liter gas motor should be the ticket. I have been watching van build videos for 3 plus years and yours is still one of the best.
I thought about a real "sit down" cubical shower space, but after watching this, seeing the amount of water that would truly be needed for such a legit shower.... I think I'll stick to a wash basin as sad as that sounds... Thank you for the great video!
I'm really feeling that shower floor cover wood piece I idea. It just looks cool and keeps it from just being a giant silver tray among st all the wood when you're not using it. Really love the whole shower concept/ set up. Well done!
Great idea mate, that's how I'd have mine if I ever did a van build. Convenient, no cubicle, more open space, looks like you could even shower outside by the length of the shower hose. Such a great van build
Cheers mate! Yeah I didn't mention that, but if you got a magnetic hose holder you really could shower outside easily. I can also undo the showered and attach a hose too which is handy.
Great 👍. I love how little space it takes up. I’m just figuring out design, I got my Van beginning of December 2020. I like that it is big enough and not cramped. Also, love the water pressure and the fact that it drains directly out to grey water tank below.
For safety’s sake some self adhesive anti slip tape would be a good upgrade for the shower tray and if you added some magnets to the curtains half way up and bottom with some corresponding metal (shower tray) for them to stick to you could avoid the dreaded curtain cling. I’d make the slatted wood hinge up against either the bulkhead all the door and tuck the curtain behind it to save having to find somewhere to put it and transfer mud and grit with it.
Yeah hinging the slats onto the back wall would be a great idea. I did consider magnets, but then you have to remove them to wash the curtain. And the tray is stainless steel so if need to install magnets behind it too!
Eat Sleep Van Some stainless is magnetic so it could be worth checking. Do neodymium magnets rust? Because if they don’t you could see them in permanently.
I like your design without the shower box. As a general rule the more functions a limited space has the better the design. I want to build in your design principle with the filtered recirculating capability. Thanks for sharing your van build.
Thanks for your comments! Yes there are a couple of You tubers with recirculating showers. Looks like a lot of work, and maintenance. Would be awesome though for a long shower!
I've seen a video of another van that had a similar setup, but his mixer valve and shower head was installed over the doorway. The entry way for the shower is a good idea in my mind for the space considerations you mentioned.
Interesting, I guess it depends which way you run your pipes! All my water systems were on the drivers side, and the hot/cold water pipes route under the overhead cab shelf
Really helpful and refreshingly honest too. Thanks mate. Doing my van design now and the shower's tough. Your ideas are practical and original to me. I think I would fit an isolator tap somewhere handy to stop accidental shower operation though!
What a great solution. I think the only change I would make is add some magnets to bottom of shower curtain as due to the shallowness of the tray, it looks like keeping the curtain inside the tray would be very hard.

Hey yeah good plan! Good to use the kitchen faucet. As soon as you put a shower head in, you have to have a fixed drain in the floor for self containment certification. So using the kitchen faucet works around that. Good luck with your build
Thanks, good ideas! yes I thought about that, but wanted to be able to put them through the washing machine easily. Also the 'skirt' means the curtain can be shorter and not touching the ground. Thanks for watching.

T avoid accumulating dirt through the teak floor, on the shower tray, would it not be sufficient to use an additional mat (or an additional layer of flooring to act as a lid), covering the teak grate?
..and when you shower, the curtain suddenly loves you more than life. 😂 I hate shower curtains. A solution to a kling-free curtain is sewing led strips into the lining at the bottom
Yeah I was worried about that, but because the curtains are so wide at the top it is not a problem! The curtain is basically this shape \ / Also I didn’t want to modify the curtains so I can replace them and wash them easily.

This is awesome. I have a pop up and this would work for that
curious to hear about your shower build as we're going with a pop top option and this shower combo.
@@cwr8618If I could find an actual pop up shower toilet I would do that but where I live pop up accessories and extras are few and far between unfortunately
@@hetheringtonfamily8798 what did you end up building?
Worth a try eh!
great set up ,very nice love it ,thank you for sharing, hugs from MN
Thanks so much!
T avoid accumulating dirt through the teak floor, on the shower tray, would it not be sufficient to use an additional mat (or an additional layer of flooring to act as a lid), covering the teak grate?
Yeah you could! Cheers
..and when you shower, the curtain suddenly loves you more than life.
Just founded my shower 😂. Wow wow thanks. I will built it or have someone
No, Thank you! Glad you like it
Yes I did enjoy that very much. Thank you
😍😘😎😘😆😍😆😆😍😆😎
No thank you for watching!
Great job! I had this same idea.
What a great idea for the shower location. Anyway how cold is that steel plate in the winter?
It is a bit cold! But I run the shower to get hot for a moment first, then it is fine to stand on. And if I’m not using the shower it has the wooden mat on it.
you could also pack a cheap pair of shower shoes for winter time so you don't have to waste water warming the pan up. those shower shoes are like $2
AMAZING!
Thank you!
