Toilet and shower are an absolute must

I have a hidden/trap door shower sunken into the insulated floor. The pan is stainless steel and it has a teak inlay. Powder coated steel sides get put between the teak inlay & shower pan, and a shower curtain with magnets sewn in to keep the shower curtain around the perimeter of the shower pan. The shower is a recirculating shower using Rixen’s on demand hydronic water & air heat. The toilet is an airhead that slides in and out of the garage area under the bed. The van also has a hot and cold outdoor shower that uses standard water supply.

I switched from a Transit Connect Mini Camper (with only a urine diverting toilet and outdoor shower) to a Sprinter only because I absolutely want an indoor shower and toilet (separate). This was my plan before COVID. Since then, I would only build a van with bathroom. Never really cared about public showers/toilets.

Totally agree, the 2020 events really changed the way a lot of vanlifers would build their van moving forward.

I have shower for sure, what do you think I am in the business of smelling up the place...
My shower is 70x70cm at 12cm high and stores including the showpan, a foot friendly shower floor, a shower curtain, a stool and the diy scoop style shower head.
I do not have any dedicated shower plumbing apart from the floor drain which is plumbed into a mobile waste water tank which I set up under the van if I feel the waste water can not be drained freely. I use a 10L bucket (which I carry a couple of since I use them to do laundry as well) and a DIY scoop style shower head made from a empty 5L liquid detergent bottle. The bottle shower head thingy can be used to scoop up water from the bucket dump style or as a shower head held above my head since the cap has a series of 1,5mm holes drilled into it to act as a nice spraying shower head.
The shower pan is made of a plastic washing machine catchment basin encased in a plywood enclosure and a lid. The shower pan has a sink style drain made into a corner which is set above a small pvc drain in the floor of the van when in use. The shower can be used inside the van or hung from some string outdoors. I carry a cut down plastic pallet to set the shower on top of to elevate it and have a sort of clean and dry area to get in and out of the shower.
I use the shower the most inside the van and since the van leaves me not enough headroom I shower sitting down on a fold up stool furo style (japanese showering). Showering sitting down is very comfortable and I got used to it very fast... I have the shower curtain hung so it is just above my shoulders as I sit, the rest of the height simply hangs down into the shower pan. This way I can still look outside and not be "cut off" while bathing...

I plan on having the entire doorway all the way to the kitchen on the drivers side, be a full hidden shower. it will be 56" by 46". Much larger than any normal shower/bath. I'm going to have runners hidden in the roof in-between the wood planks too!

I plan on doing the same thing! Furthermore, on the passenger side it will be a 56" 46" poo bucket. I believe everything should be done in spacious luxury.

5:06 Oh yes, one of those... Image what will happen if this van (god (or Allah) forbid) winds up in a high speed crash of some kind... those quirky and highly eclectic storage jars will become life altering glass projectiles hitting the back of the heads of those sitting in the cab of said van...
Get rid of any exposed glass and while you are at it, also get rid of those magnetic knife bars...for obvious and similar reasons...

No shower in my van, but I've got a standard height Savana 2500 extended, so no head height for a shower. I do, however, have a Nature's Head toilet. That was a non-negotiable for me!

If your going to live full time in a van, you need a bathroom……that is not beside/under “hidden” where you make and cook your food. Just my opinion

I want to get a van. I wouldn’t have a toilet and shower in mine because I will only park in caravan parks and camp grounds. I won’t be off in the wilderness where there are no facilities.

It makes me chuckle when people stage their vans with plants and knick knacks as if it were a house. The first things to go when you’re on the road is useless stuff that can fall on the floor or take up valuable room.

    • @VanClan
      @VanClan  2 года назад +19

I understand what you’re saying, but remember this IS their house. Almost everyone we film lives in their van full-time so the added personality is necessary for them. Thanks for the comment!

Nothing impressive IMHO. I saw on YT a Polish young guy who built a bathroom "inside" the wardrobe in that sense: all the wardrobe was capable of sliding leaving the bathroom accessible. The idea was simple, the space occupied by the bathroom was all time used to carrying stuff so better to build a wardrobe in the place of the bathroom but on wheels, so you can move it when you have to use the toilette. All wooden made, unfortunately I cannot find the video.
