How in the world is a cloth interior better for cleaning when it comes to poo and sick? You can literally just wipe leather clean. Sick can soak into cloth, necessitating shampooing and cleaning machines. That's the most nonsensical thing I've heard all day. I've got a 2005 LR3 (North American version), and the leather is flawless. I generally prefer a smaller vehicle, and car, but it's nice to have the room for two kids' car seats and both dogs in the back. Also, your rear seats fold differently than mine- mine don't pivot forward like that, but swivel lower whilst flat to make the entire back one flat floor (long enough for a six-foot man to comfortably sleep on expeditions). I'm okay with the idea of an electric parking brake, but this one is a bad design compounded by British build quality. The traction mode selection and hill descent work VERY well- I've actually used them. My only real complaints are the stupid fiber optic MOST network on the stereo that prevents me from swapping in a modern head unit (to run Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), and the occasional electrical gremlins hobble EVERYTHING until you can isolate the problem. Poor engineering on the electrical front. But when it's running, it's fantastic, and the rear jump seats are far more adult friendly than the jump seats in a 100-series Toyota Land Cruiser.
That is exactly my thoughts. Leather interior is much more easier to clean than cloth and also dog hair does not stick to like cloth does so really this guy's talking out of his arse.
I have a disco 3 se, 2008 since 5 years. i have spoken with some disco lovers and some problems are quite common with these vehicles. here is the list of predictable problems from discovery 3 (prices approx, including part and service in a official lr store): - front wheels bearings use to fail each 70-90k km. € 230 to change it. -front differential bearings each 80-100k km. They cannot be changed, so you need to change the whole differential gearbox. €1.200 -Suspension air compressor will fail somewhere at 60-100k. € 650 to change it -front down suspension bushings. they will fail at 70-100k km. it cannot be changed, so you have to buy the complete arms. €650 (€400 by a non lr mechanic) -the rubber cover from the key will rot, €25 from eBay, do it yourself -The internal materials are not so durable. after 3years the airbag cover will deform on the top(like yours), the internal door plastics will make weird noises when you touch it to close the door, the roof and columns cloth will start to deatach after 6 years. mine had also other minor problems, but they are not common. nothing to say about the engine and transmission. they are very robust and reliable, so issues with them are not common. I personally never had to touch it. After all, I love my car. it is silent, extremely comfortable and it gives a safety sense while driving.
Ricardo Maggiore, thank you for the thorough list of repairs! I am considering getting one, so this is VERY helpful to keep in mind. I know LR aren’t known to be reliable, but that’s the trade for the capability you get. And it helps to know what to look out and be prepared for. Thanks ;)
If these are the main problems it could be considered as very reliable - 60+ k to appear mostly suspension problems (due to the enormous weight ) is at least 4 years of happy ownership and then the repairs even on a high side would not kill you.
some things to consider when you want to own 1. Buy a Toyota to be visiting the beast while at the mechanics 2.Drive during the day it can stall any time. 3 costs more to maintain and mechanics are your permanent pals 4.Buying it and smoking your money are the same
You're spoiling us with all the uploads, man, damn. 17 in November and got my license a couple months ago now and ever since that my interest in cars has rocketted. You're my fix and you keep it simple but technical, I don't know how to explain it but keep doing what you do. Can't wait till you get a bigger following, so you get more funds for even more car videos!
mine is used (dicember 2006 XS ) i m the 4th owner. bought at 246.000 km . i do in 1 month about 3000 km, no problems... sometimes some strange noise but only the first week. now it goes very smoot.i tested the battery and alternator and it s ok for now
My dads got a 2012 disco 4 SDV6 and the electronic hand brake stuck on that with 70k on the clock. There is a red leaver hidden under the centre cubbyhole that you pull to manually release the hand brake but my dads was properly stuck on. Towed away and repaired with genuine parts for about £700. Besides that it's fine, pulls like tank even with the mini digger and is bloody good off road. It's good to compare it to the new Range Rover he's got as they us the same engine and similar drive train etc.
Really nice variety on your channel just now mate and I've been enjoying the uploads! I know how much time and effort it must take for all these video's but it's much appreciated. Keep up the good work buddy :)
I have the same car on an 07 plate. Also the auto version. I was told to never use the electronic handbrake unless on a hill as the auto as park selection. So hopefully wont run into the issue of it sticking! Also mine is the gunmetal grey with cream leather interior you mentioned you hated! Haa! I may need to tint the windows at some point as it actually looks quite nice on yours.
Only two problems are mentioned. The electronic handbrake (which went wonky once and was sorted quick) and the EAS, which got stuck at one height for a couple of days. Good car that, considering.
I love your videos but we have very different tastes in the minutiae. I have to say I use mine for proper off roading all the time even with trailers and big water bowsers, usually after driving motorway miles it's only a little behind big daddy defender in capability, but that is manky on a motorway. I think it's a bit silly having fancy grills and tinted windows when there are rubber wheel arches. I guess LR noticed 90% never see the mud. For me, in grey or green stock, it's just so utilitarian. o/ different strokes.
Anyone had any experience with the problems these disco 3's have? Let me no! Follow Me On Instagram @ Jamie_FYD Shop; www.fydapparel.com Like; facebook.com/fydapparel
+Jamie_FYD Many many problems! I work for a car dealer in Scotland and one we had traded in recently that had receipts for nearly £12,000 worth of work in 18 months! I'd stay well clear if it was my money...
Most are exceeding 93 000 miles and some nearly 12 years old. Just the usual things that start to go. If maintained correctly they will be fine. Weak points will obviously be the Air Compressor, they don't last forever, LCA bushes, park brake actuator as you found and transmission will need a rebuild soon. If you don't need the extra space for whatever reason, and don't need a 4x4, reconsider your options. I love my D4 but I use mine as a 4x4 overland vehicle. Not as a shopping cart. None of this should be a negative. It's a great vehicle, i'd drop 12 000 pounds on servicing mine and still be grinning as soon as i jumped in for a 2000 mile camping trip.
Goes on about how easy it ease to keep fabric seats clean, as opposed to leather. 8:24 you see water stains on the fabric... And how are they easier to wipe than leather ones?
‘I don’t think that’s what this car is about’ when talking about off roading. It’s one of the most capable off roaders about. You tend to ramble on about things and just talk bollocks. Before anyone tells me ‘they are never used off road and that’s what he was meaning by saying it’s not what the car is about.’ I know most people use them to go to waitrose but to say ‘off roading isn’t what it’s about’ is a bit mental
My 2005 Grand Cherokee has 510nm of torque (376 ft lb), though the discovery would be much higher. What went wrong with your cayenne? I bought one 6 months ago 👍🏼
One my third disco 3 had a nightmare with one regarding back brakes! Handbrake but my 08 is all singing and dancing can't fault it!!! I'm struggling to replace it coz not much comes close and ticks the boxes! If you buy then full service history and buy as good as you can afford. If it breaks it's a mega problem.
Thank the info. I'm thinking of purchasing a LR3 so any info is a plus. Keep sending updates on this model. I liked London in July and the weather cooperated with a little rain at night. I from Dallas where its definitely hot in the summer, so was a nice change. I cant seem to find any manual diesel Land Rover of any model so I guess an automatic will have to suffice. Thoughts?
Thanks for the review. However, couple of points. First; a cloth interior is far, far harder to clean. Any liquids soak straight into it. You can simply wipe leather down and it’s done. Second: you’re getting mixed up with the Range Rover when you say people won’t use them off road. I’d say the majority of people who buy the Discovery will use it for what it’s designed for: off-roading. That’s exactly what it’s all about. If you buy one and don’t use it for that, it’s weird.
It’s not so weird if you don’t use the terrain response system, it just’s uncommon, and there’s different specs of this car, like HSE, where luxury is much more relevant on the car, but this is just my opinion, have a good one.
Just wait until the timing belt needs done, there is a weak part in the block that snaps off even when the belt is tensioned to factory spec, only repair is a new engine block, someone we know got landrover to do the belt, lasted 2weeks, new block needed and WHAT A FIGHT trying to get it fixed under warranty, best they could get was parts free and had to pay for labour.
really not a fan of chelsea tractors, cause it's something most owners buy as a handbag with wheels to pose in a 4x4 should be something you can have a laugh with off road and use to serve it purpose without worrying about dents and scratches like the l200 you reviewed
ok....quick question....we are living in UK's country side but we like long family trips,at the moment we have Kia sorento xs 3.5L v6 reg 54...we have this Kia for over a two year and do regular service and so far no problems at all...( drinking petrol madly but i dont mind). situation a bit changed now because 2nd baby arrived... I decided to go for 7 seater and thinking of buying discovery 3 2007 2.7t diesel and hopefully XS..kia became to small as parents visiting often and with two kids car seats no much space in kia...we are managing with Kia but i need honest advise. would you go for discovery 3 2007 or should i worry it will keep breaking down? like I said i never have any problems with sorento and could go for new sorento 7 seater but like discovery 3... advise please. thanks
In the Dominican republic I heard of people who buy land rovers new and used and inmediatetly get rid of the engine and tranny and swap in a proper Toyota power train.
Cloth interior is easier to be cleaned than leather ?! No one will take it offroad, this car is not into that that much ?! Rising button is not relevant for a SUV Car !? Dude...what the actual f*ck..I own (since 5 years 259k km on it) this car - automatic, leather, and i really really push it to it's offroad limits - never had a single problem (well, someone stole my Land Rover emblem from the trunk..)
Spot on review there as always Jay mate, these are the pool cars we have in work and every problem you mentioned was exactly bang on to what we have here, I think we're meant to be changing to the VW Tourer's, not entirely sure why though. The only differences with our Disco's are they are automatic and in order to be eligible to use them at work you have to take a 4x4 offroad course/lesson thing haha thats honestly the only time they go offroad, for literally half an hour with a new member off staff! Great cars though don't get me wrong but they don't half guzzle juice! Definately wouldn't recommend as a daily haha
Your mom chose a manual gear box and cloth interior because she is not a wimp. I have serious respect for (real) women who driver manual transmission vehicles.
I had to watch this video twice. First he looked like a guy from Southern California driving on the wrong side while shifting a car that is never manual in America. I was like WTF!
+S Miller No I wasn't putting down your video it was cool. It was just like you looked so American. Well till you started talking. But Nice video. Cheers!
Love your mum's taste... cloth and manual... you would rather have an automatic? She musta dropped you on your head. They only have petrol and automatics here in the US... if you wreck that, I could use that diesel and transmission.
Any idea how to sort out insurance mate? i had a accident pretty bad. my car got written off other 2 werent bad just scratches. but there was oil in the road mixed with rain so it made the surface slippery which meant my car skidded and the brakes jammed. The cars fucked broken wishbone and some other stuff. just feel lost. insurance gonna go up alot but any way to make it cheaper? if i was a 2nd or 3rd driver maybe? hope you respond as it would help jamie
good video. you also said some funny things. im looking into one of these here in the us, but is gasoline and automatic 05. i have to toddlers and was looking for a family vehicle, would you say is quite reliable. despite the few issues you and your mom has had with the car? thanks
This vehicle is total trash. If a vehicle is not Reliable is garbage. This one qualifies. I cannot believe land Rover charges you so much and sell you an unreliable turd 💩 like this one. Do not buy
NEVER buy the Manual version. Even if you want to tow! Buy an Auto and always use the P (Park) position on the Auto gear lever. This way you will never have to use the handbrake, which means it will never go wrong and get stuck in the ON position! You cannot avoid using the Handbrake on all Manual versions. As soon as you remove the keys, the Handbrake will come on. Eventually it will start to squeal, then jam full on. Very expensive to repair! Bu using P on the Auto, the handbrake never gets used, therefore never goes wrong! I have had both types (Manual and Auto) and do a lot of heavy towing. The Auto is fine for towing. If it struggles slide gear lever over into S position. If it still struggles, use the - & + by pulling the lever back or pushing it forward. No problemo! Not only do yo avoid any Handbrake issues with the Auto. You also avoid any Clutch issues too! Go for Auto every time!
If only I'd read this comment two years ago!! I bought a 2005 manual Disco two years ago and have had to replace the handbrake module, the air suspension compressor, and I've literally just got it back this week after replacing the clutch and flywheel! I'm at around £2700 in repairs with me sourcing cheaper parts than the garage could.... but honestly, having spent the last two weeks in an old Audi courtesy car... I'm fine with it. My Disco is the smoothest, comfiest place to be; and now I've replaced the big three, I can hopefully look forward to a couple of (relatively) trouble free years. Wish me luck!
Yeah you can pretty much stick anything in there and it will run a treat. I've only tried deer blood, pineapple juice and red wine so far, and it hasn't missed a beat.
Great car, questionable bloke
😂😂😂
my 2009 lr3 HSE has been great and reliable. it just went over 100,000 miles. love it. I like the leather interior better though
TheTruthQuest123 I doubt it will have many problems. any car at that point can have issues. You just gotta take care of them.
I just couldn't find "MANY PROBLEMS!" part in your video as you mentioned in the video title.
yeah there was like one problem that everyone's heard about
How in the world is a cloth interior better for cleaning when it comes to poo and sick? You can literally just wipe leather clean. Sick can soak into cloth, necessitating shampooing and cleaning machines. That's the most nonsensical thing I've heard all day.

Eric R. Shelton it's because his mum can't afford a hse or se
yeah and how in the world is manual gear box better for towing of horse box than automatic :-)
Rastislav Reznicky thats because you can use lower gears to pull....
Eric R. Shelton lol I said the same exact thing- People just selling as the best whatever they ended up with. lol
That is exactly my thoughts. Leather interior is much more easier to clean than cloth and also dog hair does not stick to like cloth does so really this guy's talking out of his arse.

@@ladyj6278 do you still have it?
'many problems' click bait. its the most reliable Rover ever.
& 'expensive' is subjective.
some things to consider when you want to own

2.Drive during the day it can stall any time.

I have no problems with mine - just do the regular services and drive an amazing vehicle !
I hope the mk6 golf will get reviewed, I enjoy this channel a lot, because it's a clear definition of what cars are, and what a great channel! 👌
I got D3 se 2004 early model with 198000 miles, still going towing a 3.5t trailer (loaded) most of it life, it been a working car all it life
workingturfworking i think sometimes if you treat them as a working car they do last longer. Be nice and they break
0:53 - It’s actually 325 *lb-ft.* In newton metres that would be 440 Nm.
mine is used (dicember 2006 XS ) i m the 4th owner. bought at 246.000 km . i do in 1 month about 3000 km, no problems... sometimes some strange noise but only the first week. now it goes very smoot.i tested the battery and alternator and it s ok for now
i'm looking into buying this vehicle exact year as well. thanks for the vid mate
So am i
you have good taste in vehicles
its awesome i live in the US i have a 2008 V8 its a great off roader
speeder741 have you had any issues with it? I want one for a first car
you should get it remapped I know it's not a performance car but it will make the driving more effortless

i have a series 3 and it has none of these issues, however it does have its own fair share haha
Cracking video although as a Disco 3 owner and Dog owner leather so much easier to keep clean a fur free. Do RR sport wheels hurt the ride?

What does your mum think of your review? lol nice video mate.
just to get a good scale of how big the interior is, how tall are you?
FYI, Cars are made differently for different countries. Different options and materials
Cloth is easier to clean???

My uncles had the same problem with the handbrake, but his is never clean and is always towing a trailer and gets battered through woods ahah
Good review mate.
Outstanding video!!!
would be great if you could find a Skoda Octavia VRS to review!
Need to review some more 80s cars! my fav
Many problems? You listed one. Thank you for the click bait title.
NO mention of the 'many problems' (cept e hand brake n air susp.) wtf?
Another good review bro but where's the r35 review 😉
+Joe Doddridge chasing a R34 GTR mate ;)
+Jamie_FYD okay but I still want you too try and do my dream car (r35 gtr) 😉😊
+Joe Doddridge I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing a review on the GTR but you can't just go an ask a random person in a street to lend their car lol.
Had no idea this even came in a manual, probably one of the biggest manual modern cars out there. Also you need to buy a Go Pro Gimbal!
IK I was wondering what the fuck was doing with his hands.
I had to watch this video twice. First he looked like a guy from Southern California driving on the wrong side while shifting a car that is never manual in America. I was like WTF!
I don't know much about off roading but maybe they left the manual option just because its probably better for proper off roading
+S Miller No I wasn't putting down your video it was cool. It was just like you looked so American. Well till you started talking. But Nice video. Cheers!
Torrance Amie Haha sorry this video isn't mine, I was just saying.
not a huge fan of big cars but nevertheless great detailed video as usual
You are my Top Gear fix. When are you going to blow up a caravan?
+Brian Willis that would be awesome man, one day ;)
'Oh shit that's well deep'
Two seconds later
'Didn't even flinch'
Yeah yeah... ;)
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C hahahahah ;)
i defy a car that NEVER has ANY problems, its cars man all them have problems
Love your mum's taste... cloth and manual... you would rather have an automatic? She musta dropped you on your head. They only have petrol and automatics here in the US... if you wreck that, I could use that diesel and transmission.
Different review brotherly. What does your Dad drive? 😜
Land Rover should seek advice from Toyota on how to build REAL quality!
+97MRALIG never been in that situation man so i wouldn't have a clue, but try everything!
+Jamie_FYD ah shit lol thanks tho mate. Gonna be fucked on insurance either way
Pretty much fucked lol maybe try a blackbox? But they have limits when fitted
Or maybe get a small engined car
+LoveAudiA41998 i had a 1.2 before
My mum has the same car with the manual just in grey with a leather interior and a higher spec
Great vid, great car
good video. you also said some funny things. im looking into one of these here in the us, but is gasoline and automatic 05. i have to toddlers and was looking for a family vehicle, would you say is quite reliable. despite the few issues you and your mom has had with the car? thanks
Trigger5.56 I'm wondering the same
Trigger5.56 wondering the same.. had it worked with you? thanks :)
Diana R wondering the same too, had it worked for you? :)
This vehicle is total trash.
If a vehicle is not Reliable is garbage. This one qualifies.
I cannot believe land Rover charges you so much and sell you an unreliable turd 💩 like this one. Do not buy
Great vid...thank you
NEVER buy the Manual version.
Wish me luck!
can you use alternative fuel since it's a diesel? thanks :-)
Yeah you can pretty much stick anything in there and it will run a treat. I've only tried deer blood, pineapple juice and red wine so far, and it hasn't missed a beat.
Always liked them but heard horrific stories of how they go wrong including new engines and gearboxes
Is that a cloth interior?
Dear Jamie. Please would it be possible for you to do s review of a 2004 skoda VRS?
Super review.
Skoda!😆 was that a octavia mate?
Is a bonnet a hood?
Cloth interior better for dogs??
What yah smoking pal?
I have a 2018 Land Rover discovery HSE 3.0L and it’s great with all the room it has.
ice, trees, cactus and bumpiness!!!! Hahahaha that has got to be the absolute worst description of the terrain response system I have ever heard!
discovery 1+2 are better no electric problems
Hey mate leather is sooooooo much more easier to clean. Majorly mistaken bro
Leather is easier to clean than cloth....
Mom's boy of 30 years, has stolen the car for a review. Lol
