    That last scene where Sharon and her friends welcome Rick into her home really made me smile and shed a tear because, unlike in the actual real life events, they live. Quentin really took the events of that night and threw them out the window, and in doing so, he made a pretty special film. Loved every minute of it. Especially the final act.

    • @theswagger3231
      @theswagger3231 3 года назад +44

      That's what I dislike about the movie. The horror that real people had to suffer through is ignored in order to maintain a feel-good vibe. It feels like the movie is undermining the events that took place, like a movie about Jews in the 30s that isn't mentioning the holocaust in any way. It doesn't sit right with me idk.

    • @GepardenK
      @GepardenK 3 года назад +313

      @@theswagger3231 Far from it. It's not a feel-good ending it's a bittersweet ending, because the film is so open about being a fairy tale. In showing what could have happened it shows what was lost. This extends to the greater theme of the film as well: it's a film about the end of an era, yet it portrays a fantasy reality where that era never ends, which makes the underlying message about the era ending all that much stronger.

      @@theswagger3231 In a way it refuses to glorify the actions of the manson family. When the hippies in the movie intrude Rick Daltons home, they fail miserably and comically and look completely stupid. Showing acts of brutality like this that happened in real life in their full horror and emphazised by all the classical film elements in a way often times makes the criminals iconic and erects a monument for them. The story of the movie up to that point kinda leaves you to belive that all these hollywood people that live in their self-centered dreamworld will now be cought by the real life. The real life in which they are no heroes and completely helpless. Instead though Rick and Cliff completely shit on the intrudors in the most over the top movie-like way, completely subverting what you expected to happen and refusing to hippies representing the manson family their role in this revelation.

      Being an intellectual = being intelligent enough to not need to clarify that you’re a “intellectual” that’s special and in need of validation just because of what? A film? No, you’re more like a child still learning to not act so inherently childish.
      Being an intellectual = being smart enough to understand when to shut up as well as not needing to brag about it, especially over something as simple as one’s personal film preference. What are we in, fourth grade?

    I always thought 1969 was the singularly the best year of my life. So much was happening in the world and yet it still was a time of innocence, especially for the very young. This film captures many parts of that awesome year and whimsically shows how one tragic summer night should have turned out. I haven't laughed and yelled during a movie like that in months. Maybe i will appreciate the movie more in the next years, but yeah, it's still pretty good. I enjoyed the dialogue and humor. But opposing to what Tarantino said, it's not like "Pulp Fiction" and pretty much more like "Jackie Brown". Slow burn movie with qualities, but some problems. I dig it more than "Jackie Brown" though. That's one Tarantino movie i can never get behind. It's always just okay to me for decades now.

The movies and the oscars were amazing, the year in school was perfect, and all the vacations were good. Every time I watch this it reminds me of 2019 and all the moments I had, this trailer always makes me incredibly sad and depressed with all the nostalgic memories of 2019, for me this is not the just a trailer, it’s a beautiful video and score that reminds me and always will of the year of 2019.

      Only Tarantino has done it. His character is intentionally ridiculous and Leo plays it incredibly well. I didn't like the movie in general. It frustrated me because of the pace and the plot indulgences, but the acting is top notch.

      @@elikronen4024 The character was ridiculous in the whole movie, in a very human way. He needed attention and stuff getting done for him. He was depressed because he was expecting glory from life, fame, and recognition more than anything, but recognition as a star. He then found it as an actor. Only Tarantino has made Leonardo DiCaprio play a character like that, so silly and essentially weak/vulnerable instead of a hero or the main focus. He played a character who would let Brad Pitt shine as the ultimate macho star, as the real worker behind everything, emotionally stable though violent when the situation asked for it, skilled, mysterious, and charismatic. The real star of the film.

      @FC3692230. Dalton was the main character. He's the one who grew and changed and struggled. Booth was more of the hero.
