- Now you too can watch me lose on the game show Remote Control.
With Sean & Miriam & Greg!
The show was recorded Dec. 19th 1989. I'm not sure why I remember that date, but I do.
I cheated my way on to the show, which might be why I didn't do so hot.
MTV needs to buy a channel and call it MTV Retro and just play hours on any and all music videos (all genres from any decade hopefully more so 80s and 90s). They can play shows like Remote Control, Singled Out, The Jenny McCarthy Show, Oddities, Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Road Rules (Winnebago era), Love Line and old episodes of Real World nothing newer than 2005. They can use the old MTV commercial shorts and hell, even replay old episodes of 120 Minutes, Alternative Nation, and Headbanger's Ball.
That's a pretty damn good idea, and you'd think it would be pretty cheap for them to do.
sean siegler I think so, too. How annoying would it be that they went through with it and played mostly music and shows from the 2000s? THAT IS NOT RETRO lol.
+Angela Soria that is the BEST idea!!! they could call it MTV classic, like they have VH1 classic...... this needs to happen!
+Angela Soria Agreed...we need a channel devoted to the golden age of MTV...and add Celebrity Deathmatch in there
+Angela Soria cant forget Oddville
These were the days when cable television was actually worth having.
Sean- Thank u very much for posting this. That is me (Miriam) on the right. To this date I still remember Ken giving me a Wet Willy. And yes that's Adam Sandler. Great show! 😀👌🏻😎
I had several serious questions about how you were treated at the end, but then you wrote, "Great show!", so... never mind! Questions answered! [emoji with rolling eyes]
First off... Hi! That is kind of amazing that you found this! I'm glad I kept that VHS all these years. :)
sean siegler - my friend wanted to show her son, as an object lesson, and found it online. I too have a dusty VHS somewhere. Again, thanks for posting, really appreciate and my whole family got a real kick out of it (and I always get questions such as did I keep the car, motorcycle etc.)
As a side note, was very saddened to hear of Ken's passing a few years ago. Colin has achieved a certain level of success (SNL, trainwreck). And Adam Sandler, of course.
Miriam Lafuente I loved this show. cool you were on it. :)
i love the commercials are left in
I mean these commercials are phenomenal tho lol
FOR SURE
I was thinking that same thing!
I remember watching this back in 89, I was 13 and what a cool time to be that age.
Me too. Same age
I miss being younger than those young adults MTV was geared toward at the time. It gave me a certain perception of the college years, and the New York area focus MTV had at the time added to the otherwordly sense when watching from my "middle America" town, along with seeing commercials for stuff nowhere near me and cable channels that I never had. Those Ha Network commercials were ubiquitous for a while. Colin and Susan Ashley were totally all over each other.
I grew up in shit hole, disgusting Los Angeles... But same.
Fucking great piece of Americana. Thank you for saving and posting this.
i love that this includes the retro commercials too!! awesome!
"We've got to strengthen our knees! "
That took me back lol
I bet it did.
@@flipjupiter1 that was 2 years ago. You aren't even ready for the strength of my 2023 knees.
Oh HELLS YES! I used to love this show...MTV back in the day! Thanks for posting this!
You were the only person to get the Ghostbusters II question right, so I'd call that a moral victory. Thanks for uploading this!
Thanks for the upload. A classic show. I love it.
Imagine a tv host kissing a contestant on the lips nowadays
Ken Ober was a great game show host. It is sad he is dead, but may he RIP. Gone but never forgotten.
Statler: he’s gone but not forgotten
Waldorf: forget who
Statler: i don’t know I forgot
The commercials are killing me...thank you for posting. This was so much fun.
Thank you gamegrumps!
HamooDV C Someone beat me here.
Big fan of the show. Love the commercial segments. Takes me back..
that attitude of this show is partly "what if david letterman had his own game show?" dug this show a lot when i was a kid and it holds up surprisingly well.
Al Ramone There is something I believe is still on RUclips which you can have a peek at, an unsold game show that actually was hosted by David Letterman. It was called "The Riddlers", and it was one taped in 1977 intended for NBC. Definitely worth a look.
And actually Letterman hosted a game show The Riddlers years ago.
Ken throwing shade at Arsenio right off the bat.
This is awesome, haven't seen this show since the 80s. Im from MN.
Really good stuff.. thanks for the upload, man.
I used to love this game show!! I wish it was back on!!
GSN could make it work!!! I’m not holding my breath MTV to reboot this.
Sad to think these young contestants are somebody's parents and maybe even grandparents. Time flies by so fast.
whoa whoa whoa! who you calling grandpa?! :D
Riding the buzzer my arse!
I mean, you did buzz in a few times without knowing the answers, which by the way, was a brilliant technique! I mean, you DID win and kicked our butts and obviously knew your shtuff. :D
sean siegler- u know, I don't think I did it on purpose at all I think it was partially nerves! U may recall we were last that day, and it was a long day. I sorry after all these years #sorrynotsorry😜
sean siegler I'm curious to know how to stage crew got you (and past contestants) got down from the flip chair?
Lmaooo!!
Interesting, I don't remember the that version of the opening credits.Too much fun! Sorry you didn't win Sean!
Such a flashback..... I was just zoning out on how different it was back then dot-dot..................its gone but good times for sure 😊 😢
I love how right before you got ejected, you perfectly slapped your pillow at the douche next to you! hahaha
Thanks! I feel like I really nailed the timing on that.
I like MTV remote control and it should come back one day. 😀👍
i always wanted to be on this show!!! i was only 10 at the time, tho. hahaha!
Met Ken in Vegas in 1995. Hated to hear he has passed. He was nice.
Hey Sean! I remember hanging out with you back in those days. Damn its a small world man!
Ah yes! I vividly remember hanging out with a person named “Free Samples”.
It's the commercials for me 😍😍
I never knew Adam Sandler was on MTV. 😊
I miss 80s & 90s MTV so bad.
It was a great era for sure. We didn't know how good we had it till it was gone!
Amazing!
I am a true '80s kid...
This show had everything, great host with fire support from Colin Quinn, live music and the contestants were actually fun, interactive human beings
i used to like this show when i was kid
Today, this would be considered sexual harassment of the young female contestant, tied up on the wheel, and both males kissing her. Folks want a return of the "Remote Control," but the show would be revamped so that the rules would be too strict.
I think this show is awesome as hell
She gets a car
And we get a fuckin shoe commercial
😂
There is so much “YEAH!!!! Woohoo!!!!” 😂😂 I remember watching this as a kid. I guess kids have always been annoying. Good lord.
I like how you were just chilling there for most of the game XD like "eh so what at least i get to sit in a comfy chair while im on tv"
shiningknight23 I mean I was trying to win... Just didn't do such a good job of it.
you still did better than i would though...i would've had a big fat 0 lmao
Fair play to the girl for winning the whole thing
Damn Míriam slayed these boys
***** Well, in my defense (ok, i have no real defense. i lost on an 80s game show) Miriam was riding that buzzer the whole game and pressed it a number of times even when she didn't know the answer. But yeah... She kicked our butts.
They should use these questions in a game show nowadays
Glad you were able to swat Greg back before you disappeared behind the wall.
Thanks. It was my one moment of glory. I think I timed it well.
I had this on my Nintendo I was 7 years old when this came out was that really you on there sean? I specifically remember this episode
What was video number 8?
The correct answer on the final question would be 62, because Issac and Gopher would have taken two spots away from the passengers.
I agree with the house. MTV was far more liberal and diverse back in the day.
IRS records yesss
That is one young Adam Sandler at 13:30!
I think it is
I know it is
Back when MTV was real
Except with this.
Don't you just miss when MTV was good??
Spooky804 I wasn't aware that such a time existed. Boy, 90s really took a bat to THEM.
Spooky804 It was a pretty great station in the 80's. It is weird to think how far removed it is from what it once was.
sean siegler MTV sucks now.....I remember when they played videos 24/7
+sean siegler how did the stage hands get you down off that flip chair
Tanya Murphy believed. Musical entertainment was also best for it, the Beatles cartoon for example.
very nice
I recently played the RC game for the NES. Talk about some dated trivia.
+Neo Jeo Yea I have the DOS version, works perfectly with DosBox. One of the questions I got was something about a late night tv show host who went to a real life party and the person going was a mistake. So the computer answered David Letterman. I said out loud Johnny Carson, but I hit spacebar and answered Jay Leno. Correct answer was Johnny Carson lol. Definitely some dated trivia though.
Today kissing a contestant on a game show would be considered sexual assault, lol.
Meriem did excellent. 😀👍
Did anyone other than Colin Quinn think that Colin Quinn was cool. I didn't think so.
Never understood how he kept getting work
@@jeremyc9593Maybe his New Yawk shtick? Maybe he had family connections to exploit?
This show just makes me super curious where all these people are now.
I can tell you that the guy with the long hair (me) did NOT go on to have a successful career on game shows. 😬
@@seansiegler here we are in 2020.....you good? 😁
@@sandythomson664 all things considered? doing pretty well. holding my breath for better days in 2021 though :)
wow, Colin was really all over that chick that was tied up at the end lol
That flip chair looked like it would be fun to ride, but alas I am overweight. The powers that be said that the weight limit was 200 lbs and that they'd only seat someone there who wouldn't mind being flipped.
never see that coming
Sean is hot!! I couldn't say that in 1989
Used to love the syndicated version, which I thought was better. The end-game was more challenging, trying to answer trivia questions while spinning at 25RPM (2.5sec/revolution). Hoping your head lands on the winning monitor.
Who's that guy that came out at 13:30? I wonder if anything ever became of him...meh proably not.
He had potential. Seemed funny. He should have tried some live TV or movies. I bet he could have gone places. Oh well. Wasted potential. Sad really.
@@seansiegler Yup, I guess we'll never know... 🙂
What was #8? Never seen him before.
I was 14
Ken Ober died of pneumonia. He just didn't know how very sick he was.
Kid n Play my dad has those movies
Sean you tried your best.
My question is whatever happened to miriam? You should see what she's up to today and do a follow-up vid
She responded to comments here about 6 years ago. Look through 'em. She's doing good!👍
Damn, the hosts mauled that girl. If they tried that today, they'd be sued for sexual harassment.
blackice no doubt
Mariam was a total babe! There are two reasons I like watching Remote Control reruns on RUclips: 1. This show was from and for my generation. I am the in same basic age group as the contestants. 2. The hot college girls on there. I always root for the chicks.
Joey Lawler Anybody know what ever became of Miriam? Total babe!
@@bossbob just scroll the comments. She commented. 🐣
did you get your mini radio?
You mean the Switch It! The radio you can wear around your neck?! Heck yeah! I still have it. And it still works. Well it did the last time I checked which was a few years ago.
The evolutionary chart of female co-hosts on RM -- Marisol Massey --> Kari Wuhrer --> Some blond that no one remembers.
Marisol Massey - Kari Wührer - Alicia Coppola - Susan Ashley
@@ChrisK42 ... I loved Marisol and especially Kari, but all four of them had HORRIBLE announcing skills/voices!
I'm just curious, how did you cheat your way onto the show?
I went to the auditions where they had us answer a bunch of questions to determine how much current pop culture we knew, and I didn’t pass.
So I walked out of the audition, and got right back in line and took the test again a bit later and somehow, got many more of the exact same questions correct!
It was an open audition from an ad in the back of the Village Voice, so there were tons of people there and I’m pretty sure we all just looked the same.
sean siegler, you didn't cheat. The contestant coordinators loved you. We all knew you'd been there before. You didn't look like anyone else, and you were, despite your test answers, extraordinarily pleasing to the decision makers, moreso than 90% of the other hopefuls. Thank you for being such a graceful loser.
I bet that flip chair was awesome, I way too much, I've heard the max was 200 lbs.
And just think. These contestants are more than likely close to or are retired now? Oh, man we're old.
I'm not retired!
i prefer the craft mtic bed bonus round then wheel of jepoardy this always gave me night mares of getting dizzy at the end
my favrete ep love the show she got kissd haha
What was with your hair?
Was this the last episode?
No. It went on for at least another year. This was shot in December 1989 and I'm pretty sure they made more in 1990.
Adam Sandler was so young there!
You look like the lead singer from the Dream Academy.
Well that's life in a northern town for ya I guess.
somebody told me MTV used to be a channel that Rob Dyrdek wasnt on at all and i didnt believe them. guess its true. i dont know an MTV that isnt Rob all day.
13:30 - Might wanna watch that kid, he may have a future.
I should have bought stock in him!
Anyone else lost when he said "Isaac and Gopher Dresses Women"? Guess it's a love boat ref.
the datestamp here is wrong. this was from early March sometime of 1990.
The date is from when the episode was recorded, not when it aired.
Wait a minute isn’t the trivia delinquent Adam Sandler?
Indeed it is! Before his SNL days!
Kari Wuhrner was FINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else catch the error at 17:35?
They're kinda creepy with the ladies
Greg and Miriam are kicking your behind Sean
you finished 3rd
+Tyler Edith yeah well I cheated to get on the show, so I was bound to lose.
+sean siegler what did it take to get on back then?
Did he end up with that girl? He was hitting on those teeth for 30 minutes
I guarantee that Emerrson Radio still works
Oh it does!
I wonder what happen to HA!
It was rolled into Comedy Central after a short time.
There were originally two competing comedy stations: "Ha" and "The Comedy Channel". At some point, they were combined into "Comedy Central"
Ole motor mouth ken is yacked outta his mind here and even chokes on the drip, man I miss the old mtv when everything and everyone wasn't obsessed with appearing perfect and PC. Just real kids, real freaks, and real coke!
Man, generic 80's musical instruments are one-of-a-kind, aren't they?
How did you cheat your way into the show?
The audition process was a little mock run of the game and a quiz. Being a "cool" college kid at the time and not really into pop culture of the moment, I didn't do so well on the quiz.
So after I failed, I went outside and got back in line and did the whole thing over, now knowing the answers. I might have also borrowed a friend's shirt to make myself look different.
