I wish I could find Jan 10 1969, my ex and I were on Maternity day and we won...washer and dryer and stuff for Baby...my Baby(Son) is now 53 yrs old... the SHOW WAS FUN...🤗
If it is found, it would most likely be in a black and white kinescope like the one here since a huge preserved majority of the network version Newlywed Game's tapes has been discolored after Chuck Barris stored them in a closet.🖖
I was nine when this aired. Life was SO simple then. A couple of months later man walked on the moon for the first time and my grandma couldn't understand why the astronauts moved like little toys. 🙂
This is AWESOME! Thank you! I was 9 years old in 1969 and was having a blast! Looking at this old degraded video I would imagine it seems like "The Olden Days," but it couldn't be since I was there! lol! Honestly, If TV was still this much fun I'd still be watching! When was the last time you said, "You bet your sweet bippi?"
Wow-Za!...Mr. Whipple sold other products besides Charmin!!...I never would've thought that! Love the vintage commercials just as much as the program!!🤣😱🧻🤣😱🧻
They should definitely bring back some of the couples and do an anniversary show! That would be so cool bet they'd get all the answered correct that way they'd win a new dishwasher or bed?
I was eight. This was one month after Led Zep 1 and four months before Woodstock. He didn't say Hi Fi. But am/fm stereo console record player. 😂 good fun.
Yes. Those wedding picture segments just before the station breaks were an early hallmark of the Chick Barris shows, including some earlier Dating Game couples on their dates.
This may have came from a kinescope copy. Chuck Barris was completely paranoid on the network's wiping policy back then. So he stored all Dating Game episodes in a self contained storage room but the Newlywed Game episodes ended up in his closet where they ended up being discolorfigured. In other words, the tint's not good. The network version of The Newlywed Game only works in black & white.
I love the ads! How many housewives used Janitor in a drum? The bottle was green. How many kids begged for PF Flyers? I think some couples forgot, this was supposed to be fun.
Question spoiler alert: Can't help but wonder if the second couple is expecting. On the taller or wider answer, he said taller -- she does appear to be very petite. She however responded wider and made a motion to the front. I took that as a possible sign she's excited about expecting. Anyone else?
Well, that and the fact that some black and white "kinnies" were also sent to smaller ABC affiliates for delayed telecasts- those who didn't have tape machines, or telecast primarily in black and white.
It was in color but Chuck Barris put all Newlywed Game tapes in his closet and as a result, the color or tint was rather poor. So, a black & white kinescope tape was the only way to make this watchable again.
Between approximately 1965 and 1970, the networks touted the fact that their shows were in color prior to each broadcast. That practice petered out in the early 70s when every show on every network was in color.. since they were the third place and poor network, many of the locations on the ABC network, did not have color capability until close to 1970
As wonderfully nostalgic as these are, I can't help but feel saddened at how normal it was considered for men to disrespect their wives. Some of the questions were so blatantly sexist and insulting it's cringey. My father NEVER would have spoken to my mother like some (not all) of these husbands.
This has always been one of my all time favorite game shows. The only thing that is a little discerning, is noticing that some of the husbands seem like they might be real jerks. Like with couple number one. Sweet lady, with jerk like that. It's also something, that when the game is in a couple's favor, how they're lovey dovey towards each other, but when the points start dropping,,, it can change the mood very quickly.
On all of these show's from the 60's, 70's and even 80's - the wives are often called dumb, fat, etc. by their husbands. No concerns whatsoever about hurting feelings, or showing some respect.
Just wanted to say hello.... cos I'm also looking for a copy of the episode with my aunt and uncle! If we turn out to be related....that would be hilarious! 😄 Good luck in your search!
Sadly I only have a handful of episodes from this time, but I expect you could contact Chuck Barris productions (or who ever owns the catalogue) and request a screener of the episode.
On our first two dates, I was a moral sorrel. We had no lights operated by a chain in our first apartment, and he'd probably rather see my figure stretched up than out. I'm below five feet tall. Nobody will ever ask us these things, but they should because now in my 60s, and even after 40 years of marriage, I have a nearly perfect memory. In the wedding pictures, just before the husbands were brought out, why wasn't the bride pictured? I would be fighting mad if that were us on the show.
@@brucesmith9144 Naw....you can keep your Bluetooth. I'll stick to my Pioneer headphones, Mrantz turntable, and Kenwood speakers. The old commercials crack me up...LOL
I’m in my early 30s and I discovered this and other wonderful game shows thanks to GSN!!!!😊😊😊😊
Watching a 1969 episode of The Newlywed Game is like finding a 1969 copy of a Woman's Day or Good Housekeeping magazine.
I need Janitor in a Drum now! Wish it was still available.
It’s still available from Walmart and amazon
Wow they were all so beautiful!!! The 60s was honestly a really glamorous era
Couple #2 made a comeback to win, also, ALL the ladies are super gorgeous in this 1969 Newlywed Game treasured classic gem!!

It would be nice if in the description if they told how many of these couples were still married.
Yes i was wondering the same thing the other night. Wish we all knew. And i love the show's
They're like 80 years old. I bet most of these people aren't even alive, much less together.

Are are grandparents in 2021.
HUH???
I guess some station couldn't run this in color if played at a later date or this was kinescoped for an ad agency to make sure their ads were shown.
I believe it came from a trader in NY who worked for a TV station and transferred old TV prints at the station in off hours to bootleg.

You needed a Bill Clinton in the White House with Hillary Clinton not just baking cookies to equal the playing field.
Some of the men - but not most - were disgusting.
Chuck Barris, "The Newlywed Game" producer, said if a couple loved and respected each other, they wouldn't likely want to do the show.
We have come a long ways I watched one where the husband aggressively pinched wife. It was sad to watch
So true, women have in the past and still take abuse from men. Things have improved, but not enough.
