Just finished the video, I always wondered why people dont just cut the dashboard. Its good to have an actual explanation for it now, as im sure its alot easier to get a new dash than to source the different ducting or modify the original whilst keeping all the ducts working.
Yeah, we looked everywhere for a red dashboard... tons of black, beige, gray... but very few red. The only red ones we could find have leather on it and the prices are just ridiculous. Maybe in the future we will be able to afford such nice things.
@@DorksandBolts i have the black dash, with the red leather on the seats and doors, so its good to know its relatively easy to paint if i ever have the dash out. Of course its a little more work as i would have to paint it white or grey first. Definitely doable as you demonstrated. Nice job
Since you have a useless dash airbag lying around, id take it out somewhere connect a long wire to it and send 12v and blow it up. Good fun and would make a funny video
@@DorksandBolts im ashamed to say i haven’t, cause i think you guys rock . Seriously. I wish I could do some of that coding you guys do . I wanted to do the heads up display too.
Is it necessary to remove the HUD cover to get the dash in and out of the car? Great comparison of the two different dash types. Not much info can be found on this online. I thought about cutting my dash, but after being your video i might change my mind. Was surprised that I will lose side air. I didn't know that!
I would remove it, first take out the cluster and push from the inside. I would remove it because when removing the dashboard, the hooks that hold the trim will definitely scratch the HUD. I didn't know that either and a few post out there guarantee that there is no issue cutting the dashboard, but having the side window fog up right where the mirror is, we consider that a HUGE problem. Stay tuned for the install coding and later on a review and comparison of the 6WA and 6WB Cluster, there are a lot of little details.
HI, sure no problem the color code the we used is 1915 "coral red" form colorbond, the original color code from BMW is: Leather "Dakota"/korall-red LCD1. Make sure that you have the same, there are 2 or 3 different tones of red. you can check that in your vehicle's order sheet or by your VIN number.
@@DorksandBolts Got it, was curious since the first videos in the series are from June/July and the later ones are from November. Just curious, I retrofitted NBT EVO but I didn't do the ATM module. Do you think it's worth it to retrofit it to get Connected Drive working and in order to use the BMW app?
@JPDenali so at the time I did my retrofit, it was still an option for a dealer to update the EMEI and ICCID to the connectedDrive servers, now it is no longer possible. You cannot use any remote services, however, everything else works if done correctly, ie. traffic info, internet search, apps, etc. you do need a BMW connected subscription though

Brodie... you are a genius and inputs like this is what we need!
Hey quick question where’d you get your cluster from I’ve been wanting to upgrade mines for a while
Do you have any pics with the dashboard installed? Great DIY by the way
Thank you Ruben, better yet, there is a whole video about it. Have you seen our video with the HUD installed??

hello, what is the paint code? can you help me?

Did you park your car for several months during the retrofit of all these items?
Not really, it was mostly done over the weekend or a few days at the time.

@@DorksandBolts So remote services such as checking to see if the car is locked and locking it if it is not is no longer possible?
@@JPDenali AFAIK, yes… there might be an obscure way to do it, but I haven’t really looked into it (wink wink)
