    A note about the weapons: in even configuration, the Cutter's S1 bulldogs had more than 80 shots apiece before they needed to recharge. When switched for s2 badgers, they STILL had more than 50 shots, which is quite generous. They're also very close together and close to centerline, which means if one hits, the other has a strong chance to as well, and they're relatively easy to lead. Switching to fixed S2's is very very feasible with the Cutter.

    Great video, STL. As I don't fight, this ship is perfect except its Drake. Well designed for what they are meant to be, and I do appreciate the style objectively. Subjectively, I strongly dislike the aesthetic. BUT...
    I fell in love with the Mule, and use it nearly every day doing what I like to do - courier, recovery, and investigation/exploration missions. I use several large ships to carry out yet here come a Drake ship that I somehow loved on the floor of the Expo.
    Not-so-short story; this thing let's me haul the Mule with my courier boxes and loot and I'm having fun. Don't do combat, so it's weakness there is not a problem (until it is) but that's OK. And when the Mule can carry an SCU in its trunk, I'll get 25% of my cargo capacity back.

    My favourite aspect of the Cutter is that it has very powerful retro thrusters so you can approach your destination at full throttle and not need to cut the throttle until you are a few thousand metres away. In every other ship I am always trying to judge how late I can leave it and usually end up throttling back too early and having to do the last 5-10k at slower speed. NOTE: You must not change to VTOL if you are relying on a fast stop. Do the braking first then switch to vtol just before landing.

  • @PeanutButterWasTaken

    The thing that makes the cutter a must pick for me is the ability to jam in a roc. You have to bind a keybind for the ramp because it blocks the panel, and when closed the front wheels clip in and out but it *does* stay through quantum. You can also just pick it up a an outpost and fly it in atmo with the ramp open no problem. This makes it the only starter other than the $90 nomad to carry a roc. It’s even better if you get before the end of IAE it’s a steal at $45.

    With the quantum fuel capacity, the Cutter can go the entire system twice before refueling, probably all the way to Pyro if we ever get Pyro. It's ok for those into small box missions and bunker raids. You'd just have to know....hope you won't get into unnecessary combat. It's a decent mini-cutlass and not bad if you need a starter.

    The main benefit of the cutter is that it can actually fit a Roc mining buggy (it stays on the ramp, but you can fly with it), making it the only cheap starter that can allow you to start mining right away, earning 120k+ cash per hour, as soon as you have the money to rent a mining buggy.

    Agreed it is a great little runabout and a solid starter ship to work up from as you can rely on it via LTI and lower operating costs. Also the devs stressed how carful you must be for combat - so strafing runs is likely recommended.
    It is great to see that finally CIG is addressing the new player starter more properly, we still need a proper tutorial as we see these queries in game all the time especially during big events for free fly. I hope CIG takes this opportunity to revisit the other starters and fix the issues that have been plaguing them for sometime now.
    Glad to see the Cutter brought out fight ready, they are getting better and better at ship design from concept to release cycles :

    • @kebasor
      @kebasor Год назад

      A long haul truck isn't built so that stepping outside to eat, dress, or use the facilities kills you, where doing so in space or most planets will. This why living spaces on ships have that room. Also why the Ursa is the only useful rover for exploration right now.

      @@valandil86 It's designed as a starter general-purpose ship and it does that job well. It has enough cargo for its intended role as courier, and offers the capabilities that will let the user stay aboard it for weeks at a time (unlike every other starter ship that only allows hours or days) at a very economical cost. There are other options if you want more cargo capacity and less life support space, so having the ability to actually support the pilot for long duration flights is a good way to give the Cutter a purpose rather than trying to do what has already been done by other ships.

    I think you articulated EXACTLY how I'll probably play this game. Once upon a time, I was so gung-ho for Star Citizen, like keeping up with updates and watching every video out there of my favorite ships. I was even planning out my fleet and which ship to acquire first. I don't think that Star Citizen is a scam but I see the game becoming more and more unplayable to me. Not that the game itself is bad, but that it will require a skill level and time commitment from me that I neither have nor want to give. I honestly feel like I have to learn to fly an actual spaceship to pilot these ships (I have a Pisces). I upgraded my PC to play this game and then during the expo last year, realized that my PC is no longer capable of running the game well (I kept freezing up and lagging...never did get to fly the Terrapin).
    I'll probably be that guy in you're describing at 10:25. I'll do some sightseeing, run some cargo for some money to pay for supplies and fuel, run away (or try to) from every other ship I see. Log off and come back a week or two later and see what's come up. I was hoping to do that with the Terrapin (the armor is so attractive to me) but I don't know if I want to spend that much money on the outset. If I ever do save enough money in-game to upgrade to one, I'll do it but I'll probably switch my Pisces for the Cutter. I think the build is kinda cute, I like having living quarters, but it's the range that's appealing to me the most.

      Once we get FPS bounties, a cutter could be a pretty decent razor crest. Also those upcoming disarray weapons that CIG devs have mentioned a couple of times might help. • @borland8513
    @borland8513 Год назад

    This is a bad ship. While I don't like suggesting people give CIG any money, if you want to get started in SC, the Avenger Titan, or Drake Cutlass Black are so much better than this ship, it is ridiculous.
    The Titan opens up more combat options, more cargo space, is just a lot more ship, can have 1 person in the bed as well, and easy to fly. While it can't easily carry a ground vehicle, you don't need one very often.
    The Cutlass Black opens up not only more combat options, but has a turret for a friend, can carry much larger vehicles, and can carry 11 people(1 pilot, 1 co-pilot, 1 turret gunner, 2 beds, 6 jump seats). It can easily carry a ROC miner to open up vehicle mining game loops.
    Both the Titan and Cutlass Black are versatile multi-role ships. While they don't excel at any one thing, they are flexible enough to let you experience a lot more gameplay loops letting you find out what you might like, before grinding out the in game money to purchase more specialized ships.
    Something worth mentioning is the Pisces can be delivered to mining facilities if you ever get stranded near one.
    Other things to mention are -at this time- the Mustang Alpha starter pack has the Aurora MR as a loaner ship in addition to the Mustang Alpha, due to cargo and package issues with the Mustang Alpha. So, that is like getting 2 small ships for the price of one. But, all of these starter ships are eclipsed by the Avenger Titan. The Nomad is another ship to avoid. It is between the size of a Titan and Cutlass Black, but appears to be underwhelming.
    Disclaimer: I've not flown a Cutter, or Nomad. But, they don't fit any roles the Avenger Titan or Cutlass Black can't do better.

      It's really tanky though, 10% damage reduction for both physical and energy damage, and 18600 hp. By comparison, the avenger titan which is the best combat starter ship has 11900 hp and 2%/10% DR (but twice the shields, which it needs being a patrol ship). If you're smart enough to gtfo at the first sign of trouble, it's probably going to be very survivable.

    Ship Citizen, Half a billon dollars and 10 years later...can buy ships like clockwork, but as for the 185 systems...we have 1. NPC universe run by 90% AI? Well....still stuck in their seats...a ever changing verse/economy/trading...well...you can attack a little bunker.
    But hey buy more ships! CR needs that money for more Bed sheet/ice cub simulators. Next Year, blow your nose simulator!
