From the Polaris to the Perseus to the Galaxy to the Arrastra.... CIG have really nailed the Design of large RSI ships. Hopefully this will be passed down to the Connies in the form of a rework.
6:55 there are 3 remote turrets one on each side and one on the top rear which may be on a rail system that can move it to the bottom like the Scorpius. Each Turret has four Size 3 guns on it. So a total of 12 Size 3 guns. You can see it pretty clearly in the image at 7:19 in the video if you look at the starboard side (the side which is further away from the POV) where you can see 2 guns on the top half of the turret. In the same image if you look at the opposite side turret you can pretty clearly see 2 guns on the bottom half of the turret. So even though the lighting on a lot of the images sucks it's pretty clear that each turret has four size 3 guns.
This crazy expensive ship has the most poorly done brochures of any ship I’ve ever seen, which is why there are a ton of unanswered questions on the Q and A. Nobody knows what fits, what can be swapped and when, what seats control what guns. Ext. Ext. it’s a complete joke the amount of money you pay for this ship and has the worst brochure with hardly any art to go with it, especially the interior, ugh so bad.
@@tropicthndr eh more than half the brochures they make for concept ships end up not being accurate anyway and end up having drastically different specs (especially when it comes to SCU capacity) some times even ending up with almost entirely different internal layouts. So like I don't think it's that big of a deal that it has less information in the brochure. Also a lot of the questions in the Q&A post on spectrum aren't even about the ship they are about gameplay systems and features that aren't even part of the game yet like player run refining mechanics and AI crew. As for the turrets they've changed how the classify turret size which I agree doesn't make any sense but still seems pretty understable to me especially when you match up what the specs say to what the images show.
The ship brochures are "more like guidelines than rules". The true bit if lazy incompetence is that the web page ship matrix is innacurate on released ships.
@@tropicthndr It isnt expensive - Polaris, Nautilus, Javelin, to name 3 are much more money. Hull D & E will be more too. All depends on your willingness to pay. Don't assume you speak for all.
We now know that it can get matherial for third parties for processing and we also know that the awesome 500+ SCU carrying capacity will not be limited to ore and mining matherials only, one can use it to transport cargo. We also know this beast has x2 large shield generators and x12 size 3 guns. It will also be able to carry two Ursas, and with the Ursa Medical coming out this Invictus I think this ship is one of the best ships ever made. You can do cargo hauling, exploration, have ground vehicles and a tier 3 medical bed, it can defend itself pretty well against smaller threats, you can also use it as a portable refinary only, where you buy unprocessed ore for cheaper, refine it and sell it yourself without having to mine, and of course, you can mine with this thing....overall, I'm super impressed and I think I will be upgrading my Galaxy to one of these. It even looks better than a Galaxy! The only issue I've seen with this ship is a lack of a secondary entrance, like a small elevator. It has a docking collar and a big cargo elevator and I feel that it's quite lacking for a ship this size. Please CIG, give us a small elevator that goes ground to bridge.
Man, my $275 Orion seems a better investment every year. One big advantage of the Arrastra over the Mole is that you can fit at least 2 Furies in the Arrastra garage and have them scout the area for good stuff while you're mining or you can use the time traveling between asteroids refining the mined ores. My recommendation would be to get the Arrastra and a Orion CCU. Decide when both ships are flyable if you want to apply the CCU or not.
I think the Arrastra will be the ahip you go out mining in when you only have your crew on board and no escorts. This things should be more than capable of defending itself from smaller pirate groups. As for the lack if a belly turret, i think that was intentional because it is sorta made to fly closer to the ground, letting a planet or something protect the vunerable belly.
In the pictures, it looks like side turrets have 4x S3 (that's how I understand it). Since this is not a combat ship, it's obviously not meant to ever meet a fleet of corvettes or something. A couple fighters will have to think twice before approaching though. There is ofc an option of just nuking it with torpedos. Still, those can be intercepted and the pirate risks losing the cargo which they are after (since even now S9 torp usually just absolutely obliterates the cargo).
The Arrastra looks great. However, with taxes I'd be paying 600 euro for the warbond version. That's a lot of money for one in-game vehicle. And while CCU chaining might save some 30-50% off the price, 300€ is still a lot of money even if it's dripped in over a longer time.
i think the external cargo is for the finished materials that comes in 1scu crates like the salvage crates from the vulture / reclaimer. and it has 3 remote turrets with 4 s3 guns on each turret
Nice video. We'll have to wait for the official Q&A, but a few observations / speculations beforehand. I think to keep this ship balanced against the Expanse and the Galaxy, there's a fairly reasonable chance that the onboard refinery will _only_ be able to refine the materials collected by the Arrastra. It makes it a good solo ship (as the marketing material emphasizes), but "less" good as a fleet ship where there are MOLEs / Prospectors / Expanses, etc. working in tandem. Secondly, regarding the remote turret. I'm fairly certain that during the ISC, they mentioned that the tractor beam turret is in the back of the ship, and is used to help in the loading of the rear cargo area, similar to the way that the turret works for the Spirit C1. That would mean that it _wouldn't_ be useful for moving around rocks / asteroids, or attaching mining bags from other mining ships (hence my earlier speculation regarding the refining limitation).
Short answer: Maybe. Longer answer: If you like mining and want something more capable than a MOLE, hard yes. Otherwise, no. Really love these breakdown videos and always love the approach you give each ship and vehicle. It's a nice looking ship and I'd definitely enjoy being part of a crew on it, but it's not really my thing to want to buy one.
I want something like a Mole, but also can be lived on. This looks like it may be it. Mole 100% isn't, it's like living on an oil rig in a middle of a sea lol
Your videos just come out too late! Melted my Expanse and CCUed my MOLE to one. 😆 And still get to have a Prospector and MOLE until it comes out. 👍 The ship is about $100 more than I was expecting. But between the Expanse, the MOLE and some store credit I had; it cost me no new money. 👌
I picked one up(well, a CCU, at least) because I like the idea of having mining and refining on a ship that has at least some self-defense ability. More importantly, it looks cool. As an owner of an 890 Jump, that clearly weighs heavily in my decisions.
Thanks for this review! I think its weapons are three quad-S3 turrets for a total of 12 size 3 guns. I used a CCU chain that I had been preparing since we voted on this ship last year to get it for around half price.
The thing is that this ship looks AMAZING and there's also another point that a lot of people are not considering...it's a deep space miner. Meaning that it's probably very well equipped for long distances. Why that's relevant? Because you could very well use it as an explorer that also happends to mine. Instead of ROC's you could carry other land vehicles. It really depends on some factors though that we don't really have yet, like the weapons and shields loadout. I know that's a miner ship but again, if you're going away for long distances to carry valuable rocks, you'd better be well armed and x6 S3's is not really coherent with that nor the size of this ship. I'd say that this ship needs at least x6 S4's and either one or two S3 shields. Only time will tell but I can see myself exploring the verse with this ship and mining here and there whenever I find something really valuable.
The pictures show the side turrets to have 4x (I assume) S3s. The back turret not sure, but hopefully it's the same. That's good enough for all fighters, and maybe even some medium ships if the shileds are good enough. It also looks like it may have a Large size radar, which makes sense since it will have to look for rocks at range. So it could be kind of exploration ship. Only issue I see here is that we don't know if it can refuel itself with quantum and hydrogen like the Odyssey. If it can't then it's a huge downside to this ship, unless it has some absurdly large fuel tanks.
@@2727daqwid If it has around x10 to x12 S3's than I would agree with you that it'd be enough to deal with smaller threats if it also happends to have big enough shields. And yeah, the radar thing makes perfect sense, it's exactly what I was thinking when imagining this ship as a pseudo explorer, although CIG could make the mining radars different than the explorer ones to avoid people using some ships for roles not intented on the original design and that would be a bummer. On the side of it being able to refuel itself...well I really doubt it, and honestly it dosn't really needs to. The Carrack dosn't have a refuel system and it's still an explorer. The fact that this is a deep space miner already implies that it is perfectly capable to travel and remain on the field over long distances and time periods, so I'd say the fuel tanks are massive as they should be.
@@gabzsy4924 I've read somewhere on spectrum from a dev that fighters won't be able to do anything to a larger ship or capital ship with their tinny pew pews when the armour is in. Hence why we have Eclipse and Ares I think, those being the only ones that can make a dent in such a large ship, and then if somebody really wants to get this and other larger ships down, they need something more beefy.
As for the Quantanium time constraint, I'm pretty sure the moment it starts the refining job, it'll start stabilizing. So we probably won't have to worry about any explosions initially. I say initially because I'd actually like the refinement to be like a challenge. A mini game if you will. Where you have to put the right amount of chemical-X into the refinery to help stabilize the Quantanium. If you mess up, you risk losing some quant at the minor side, and causing some serious danage to yourself, the refinery or if you REALLY dick it up, the entire ship and crew.... This would be for the volatile ores only. Everything else will just lose some ore on the job for screw ups or something of that nature. Not sure how they're going to work this but i hope they consider something along the lines.
I would happily have a "touchy, instable, needing constant attention" like mining, that is damn fast and a "start and walk away" that is slow as molasses refining options. Standing at a refinery station for hours is not a game loop, that is pure tedium.
As nobody knows what impact having LTI will have, suggesting that 10 year is just as good... is pointless, if not straight up dumb. It is not unlikely that many people will play more than 10 years, and having payed real money for for ship it would f*cking suck to lose those ships due to an expired insurance. Especially the mid-high tier ships worth hundreds or thousands of dollars. But that is my opinions.
I really think this is shaping up to be a surprisingly SOLO mining ship. All the mining turrets are controlled from the bridge. That is already a huge leg up over the already flyable Argo MOLE.
@@rory-redPeople already do that with the Mole! You aren't using all 3 turrets actively. Instead, you equip each turret with whatever mining head you want. Then, you just turn on the two mining lasers that you *aren't* actively controlling (at minimal power) to apply whatever buffs/debuffs you need on the rock. Most of the actual active power adjustments are done from the single actively used turret. The big pain in this is how much running around you have to do between decks to do this on a MOLE. With the Arrastra's remote mining lasers all being controlled from chairs one the bridge, this becomes a lot easier!
In Star Citizen they increase size of components and weapons is always a magnitude larger or a factor of 10 so if this holds true the laser should be 10 times more powerful than the mole and of coarse thats times 3 for all lasers on target so that's 30 times more powerful giving you very big rocks to break. From the pictures I saw the gun turrets have 4 guns on each of the turrets,As far as getting the orion I am so glad you said this it makes so much sense unless you do not want a ship as big as the Orion and you would be done with the Arrastra and I think it also will go up another 100 plus dollars before the orion comes out so 525 might be the best time to get it and I am thinking of melting my Merchantman to do it.thanks for the input great job good insights.
Always love your content dude. I think there will be some important distinctions between the Arrastra and the Orion. Not the least of which will be versatility. The ability to land on planets could provide an important niche for this ship. Once we have base building in game, planetary bases and construction ships should benefit from the ability to produce raw materials on site. The Orion would require additional logistics to deliver materials. Additionally, the Orion will probably be a gas hog and require a large escort.
To me this is the biggest dividing line between the two ships. An Orion with 4 people is going to be severely under manned. An Arrastra with 4 people will be short on a position, but will be a fun op. Pulling an Orion means basically an org level event. Pulling an Arrastra is more of a few friends busting rocks for a night.
I feel like the internal cargo is used to transfer refined ores to a TDD instead of using another ship like the Cutlass. This also feels like it will be able to mine "medium" sized asteroids, while the Orion should handle "large" asteroids while also refining onsite all the ores you find from your fleet. Then again, the Orion may undergo some changes that will change the way you use it.
Arrastra has 3 miner gunner stations controlling 3x S3 mining lasers and 3x S3 Quad Turrets for a total of 12 guns. The Pilot is also the Refinery operator, separately you would have an Engineer and up to two ROC Drivers. --- $475 via WB CCU Chain from $45 donor. Arrastra is a high $$$ buy in. If you have a MOLE, you can earn an Arrastraroid miner reasonably quick. Like you said, if you have an Orion already, this ship is likely on its way to you already and you will have it well more than long enough to buy Arrastra in game. Having said that, IMO this is the quintessential miner! This is my long awaited Skulkinaw CCP never delivered in New Eden. An amalgamation of the O.R.E. Hulk mining speed, Mackinaw ore carrying capacity and Skiff firepower. I am thrilled!
I KINDA dissagree. Very Carefull there: Sure it is possible to melt in your Orion if you wanna go for the Arrastra later. But keep in mind what kind of purchase you did. Like me: Arrastra is a 560$ish Pledge, but thorugh CCU's my pledge is "only" worth 360$. So thats what I get when I melt in my Arrastra. So to get then to the orion (outside of IAE) is a pretty big stretch. But totally agree that the Orion will become more expensive. But it wont tripple. Absolutely not. I think the max that will come out, is that the Orion gets around 100$ more. And also that will happen over a longer term. not just "click" like this. But definitely its worth to have an upgrade laying around in the hangar. Now here comes the MOST IMPORTANT PART: My best advince I could give: Buy the Arrastra, and have a Orion Upgrade in the Hangar (Just dont apply it yet). It makes literally no sense to apply an Orion upgrade right now! Like really no sense at all. Young says here, that you will get the Arrastra as loaner as soon as it comes out for the Orion. Thats like 99.9% for sure. But, if you have the Arrastra you will have it either ways as soon as it comes out. And then you can decide rather to keep the Arrastra OR apply the Upgrade. And if you wanna stay with the Arrastra, you just can melt in or do whatever with the Upgrade. But getting BACK from the Orion to the Arrastra is a whole bunch of a bigger problem. Especially outside the time of IAE.
First in Inside Star Citizen it is shown that the turrets are quad turrets, so each turret will have four size three guns. Second from what I know from when the Expanse Q&A came out quantanium will become stable once it starts processing.
@@yesthehandymancan I have this feeling that when everyone is logged out the ship is removed from the game, this might also stop the processing till you log back on or you find that the processing is complete.
i have an orion and well i was pretty sure it had an onboard refinery like the arrastra, i couldnt find anything stating it could and i started panicking, thank you for clarifying the orion is the higher tier ship and can refine on it's own, i will not think about arrastra anymore
each turret has 4 x S3 weapons, so a total of 12 size 3's across all turrets. Hella guns for an industrial ship. Also regarding Arrastra vs Orion, Orion will need a fleet around it, not a single ship deal with that one. What I would do, if you want the Arrastra, is buy it, but also grab a CCU to the Orion but just sit on it, not apply it right away. That way if the Arrastra comes out and you'd rather have that, you keep it and melt the Orion upgrade. If you do want the Orion, well you already have the upgrade so just apply it.
correction, turrets are quad mounts Note, it also has 4 quad S1 missile VLS bays and 4 dual S3 missile VLS bays [those 2 rows of little triangular doors forward of the bridge] The missile description is confusing, but the model and art shows the missiles peeking out of the open ports
Managed to pick one up for $305 with LTI. I think it's a great middle road between the Mole and Orion, and look forward to some group mining in the future.
It kind of kills the Mole for me. If you have 3-4 people, the choice between a full Mole and a slightly short staffed Arrastra, is not much of a choice. If all you have is 2 people, the Mole would be better, maybe, but at that point you should probably be running 2 Prospectors.
@@Kyle-sr6jm Right from the start, I always felt the Mole was lacking mineral storage capacity. I still think that now, and that's why everyone takes their own Prospector instead. I understand the changes to what can be mined were designed to help that situation, but I'm not convinced. Then, as you say, there's the Arrastra, with massive amounts of storage, and refining on the go.
The Orion will keep going up in price until launch. The Arrastra isn't cheap, but the package as a whole looks amazing. Refining, bigger lasers, vehicles and some serious weaponry for an industrial ship. The elephant in the room with the Orion is just how many other ships and people you will need to keep it supported and running.
They'll be so many Orion's flying around like it will be hilarious, many backers haven't a clue as to what it'll take to support an Orion, most are still running around in a Mustangs and hugging a plushie. Even funnier when the BMM drops
I don't agree with the assessment that the Arrastra still needs to be picky about what it picks up. Like if we look at Aluminum which is the cheapest minable commodity in the game right now it sales for anywhere from 230-338 once it is refined with the best place to sell it in bulk (ArcCorp) going for around 310 per unit. With the Arrastra having 510 SCU that is 51,000 X ~310 = 15,810,000 UEC even if we account for 10% of that going to fuel and maintenance that is still 2.8 million per person for a full load of the lowest price commodity. Even if we replace just 10% of that with Diamond which is the lowest priced mid-tier minable commodity it still comes out to just under 7 million UEC per person for a 5 man crew. So yeah I don't think the Arrastra is gonna need to worry about being picky if current commodity prices are anything to go by. Like I know these things are going to change eventually and prices will fluctuate but I just don't see a situation where the Arrastra isn't printing mountains of money.
I have a MOLE, and I love its design, but I see the superior design in the Arrastra... so torn. It's stupid to own both, but I really don't want to melt or CCU from my MOLE...
Reminds me of a wild catters rig looking for large profitable deposits for bigger miners to come in. You can make a lot of money off the data to sell to the big guys. Also survey for rare gases to be mined like rare forms of hydrogen's and helium's. Find it with under ground harmonics.
The talk about prices on the Orion going up made me go back and check out my early pledges. I guess I never noticed that a lot of these now cost way more than they did when I first pledged for them. I got the Orion for $325 and it now costs $650! I mean geesh the Orion cost half as much as the Arrastra back then. Seems kind of silly to me to raise the price on ships that aren't flyable or even being worked on.
Unless I'm really misinterpreting this, it states that the pilot will control 4 size 4 weapons, as well as 2 size 5 weapons. Also, the turrets, seem to be three separate turrets holding 4 size 3 guns each. (Like, a remote version of the Hammerhead turrets, but one size category smaller) which would make this thing quite able to defend itself.
Those are missile pylons that the pilot controls. It is saying the default load out is four size 4 pylons which each have 8 Size 1 missiles (32 total missiles) and two size 5 pylons which each have four size 3 missiles (8 total missiles) Not sure if those missile pylons are bespoke or if they can be swapped out for different configurations.
@@ThatGuyKazz I don't hate admitting I'm wrong. I'm a bit sad that I don't get to enjoy an overgunned mining vessel though. Thanks for the clarification!
I melted my expanse and prospector and bought this with a little bit extra leftover credit, figured I'd just buy the prospector in-game if it weren't a loaner. I would get an Orion, but I see the Arrastra as a bigger mole, once you're in position you and maybe 2 buddies can just switch to the turrets and mine, occasionally 1 hops out to check the refinery jobs? With the Orion that's harder to do I'm sure, the Arrastra also has the benefit that it can still mine in-atmo, the Orion can't and is space-only. This is the same reason I drew the line at the Polaris and even though I think the Idris and Javelins are awesome, same for the kraken, they're just too much, too much manpower required and other limitations.
Between Orion and Arrastra, I went Arrastra. I'll be able to solo an Arrastra and sell the resources much easier. I solo a MOLE now and the Arrastra will streamline the process.
Something tells me they are going to do something similar to the reclaimer, where someone will have to be down in processing packing the materials into crates and moving them to open space in the cargo hold which is what I'm hoping is the case
There’s no way that the processing won’t be a queue, so you’re constantly refining goods and they’re constantly turning into cargo, because if you can only do two jobs at a time (one for each refinery) you’re going to need to wait until the Arrastra is full to start refining. Also dumping someone else’s bags from anything smaller would just take up a refinery for functionally nothing
I think the Arrestra is gonna struggle based on it's design. What I mean is: The Prospector is a little ship with saddlebacks that relies on a refinery/expanse. The Mole is a medium ship with saddlebacks that relies on a refinery/expanse. The Arrastra is a large ship with a internal refinery and a somewhat combat ship ish shape. There simply isn't the space to push it to a different level, and honestly, I'd say most of what it has are things the Mole had stripped from it when compared to other ships in this price/size range. Large shields etc. are already present on the Connies, Railen, Redeemer etc. The fact that it has some defensive turrets is nice on paper, but I'd argue they are somewhat useless unless they get automated, as you wouldn't have them manned during mining operations and moving positions would require a pacing well below 10% of what we have even with sensible ship interiors... for Starfarer Crews it would have to be on the level of WW1 Naval Battles. In other words, I see it as the Ship the Mole should be... at the same price. If you have CCUs to get it down to a reasonable price (~150$?) and really want more than a Prospector, that's OK. But there's a massive gap between the Arrastra and the Orion. In terms of capability/scale, I don't think CIG could/would want to go for something significantly above the Orion, as that ship would have to get towards 500 meters long, take years to make, cost thousands on limited sales and people simply wouldn't find it to be worth it when they can have the relatively cheap Orion from old CCUs/grey market. I'd expect at least one ship size between the Arrastra and the Orion... two would theoretically be possible if you compare the Arrastra to a Hammerhead and the Orion to a Javelin, but CIG would struggle to have meaningful price differences below the 1k mark, if the arrastra pushes to 650, there'd be one spot around 750-800 and the Orion would even be above that. On that note: securing a CCU to a Orion might not just be a good idea in terms of saving money, but I also expect it to get shoved into the limited sales only group of ships, like the Hull E.
I think and hope that the defensive turrets are remote and linked to the mining operator seats. This would mean you just Y out of the minning screen and push a button to enter the combat turret screen. The turrets on the side don't look manned if you look at the 3D model tbh, unless I'm getting the scale completely wrong.
Will this ship be a good combo with my crucible? Like can I use the Arrastra to mine and refine materials that I need for my crucible to fix and repair ships or build parts like missing wings, ect. Or do I need to have a salvage ship to strip materials from soft destroyed ships to repair other ships? I apologize if this is a dumb question! 😖
While the Arrastra is cool. I think Ille be sticking with my lowly mole. Once the PU has all its features in. The cost to keep these ships operational will be a big factor in the final game. Which is why I feel the Prospector and the Mole has an advantage.
Imagine being someone who picked up a Galaxy with a refining module only for this thing to come out. The Arrastra seems a far better deal. I like mining, and I'd love to stay out on the range for long periods of time, bed logging between mining sessions, and slowly accumulating refined resources. This would fulfill the 'living and working on a space ship' goal. However, my friends wouldn't be into that, and I think having separate single-operator ships for mining and salvaging works better for us; and I doubt CIG will ever release a single-operator ship that can mine & refine. I think the Arrastra will be a great goal to work towards in-game using other utility ships; but I don't think it's a good buy unless a whole group of players is serious about mining gameplay, which is very casual and not really great for groups.
It looks like we'll be able to swap between remote mining lasers pretty easily in the Arrastra. Just use two of the lasers (with specialized mining heads) to apply whatever buff/debuff you want on the rock (at minimal power) then use the third one actively to adjust power levels of the beam. People already do this with the MOLE; but, you have to run across multiple decks to line everything up. The Arrastra's controls all seem to be located on the bridge; aside from the refinery (which is advertised as being mostly automated).
It’s good for orgs really. Small groups for whenever and our org will host a 3M night. A Movie and Money Maker night. Watch some movies and have anyone that wants to join crew the ship. A community event
I've been mining with a Prospector, and enjoying it, and whilst the MOLE appealed this IAE, the reveal of the Arrastra made it an easy yes from me. I got one as an upgrade to my Prospector, using store credit.
@@AverageBritishNerd1138 They always give some form of fighter as a loaner for those who buy a non-combat ship. They want you to at least be able to play Arena Commander.
I used to hate the mole back when i started playing (3.17) because the timer for quantanium is no different, so it felt more efficient just to use the prospector. I tried using it to mine other ores -but nothing else even justified the time and fuel and scouring. This new mining update changed that now that quant is even more valuable but Gold/ Bexalite / Taranite is right below what quant used to be. I can solo break rocks in the 50k mass range solo in the mole - where in my prospector i have to stick to around 20k and below. I bit the bullet and grabbed the Arrastra too .. cant wait to carve out a new - long duration mining expedition niche for it.. thats initially what i wanted when i 1st tried the Mole in 3.17@@AverageBritishNerd1138
Any thoughts on the relative value of: A) 1 Arrastra + 1 Liberator, carrying 4 ROCs between them plus a few escort fighters on the Lib - vs - B) the same number of players in multiple Prospectors, 1 Expanse, and some long range escorts flying along?
So i have been using the Mole a lot, I have a Galaxy CCU for my refinery. Then this comes along, I am not sure if its a good plan to melt one for the upgrade or keep what I have. thoughts?
Refrain from buying more concept ships; it's reported that CIG has a 35-year backlog to work through. Credibility concerns have surfaced regarding CIG, and a developer on Spectrum noted that concept ships are speculative and their inclusion in the game isn't assured. After facing customer backlash over allegations of advertising fraud against Chris Roberts, CIG withdrew their statement. It's advised not to trust Chris Roberts due to tendencies to nerf ships, potentially to boost sales of newly released ships.
Thank you for your content, especially your voicing your take on insurance My main concern about the unknown future is how many support ships and crew take to bring the money?
Question, I picked up a Galaxy for base building. Will the Arrastra be able to accomplish the same mission as the Galaxy or does the Galaxy do something different when in regard to build bases? I'm a little confused. I kind of like the idea of the Arrastra over the Galaxy if I can use it build bases and mine.
Galaxy is modular, so the focus of the ship can be changed. One of the modules is for construction. Galaxy can be a refinery OR a medical ship OR a hauler OR a manufacturing rig, but not all at the same time. No mining. The Arrastra is a dedicated mining/refining ship. No modularity. No change in focus. No manufacturing capability.
Not sue how new this page is, but it states some information you mentioned that we weren't yet sure of, like that it will hold two ROC-DS's. what shoud I do becuses I bought the Orion and then today i accdintly bought the areastra so what should I do. I kinda want to keep both but i dont know.
Really hit my impression again as almost always. I just have one question to add from my hopes for the Q&A: Will the Arrastra also be able to land with the external cargo fully filled? Other than that, since i am mostly a solo miner i just like the idea that eventually there might be a nice selection of refineries flying around and expanding our reach and mission time but i wouldn't buy one

I really like the ship. Did get a small ccu just in case, but hard to pull the trigger when I have an Orion for 290 and do get a loaner. Only real concern is, will the Orion be too big..???
That why I melted mine. CIG has been making moves lately to show they really don't want people being alone or in small groups, they are going out of their way to ham fist group play in as much as they can. The original docs talked about a 6-7 station process to munch a whole rock and I am betting CIG will find a way to make you need a minimum of that many people to do things. Arrastra to me sounds like something I can mostly manage solo, or if needed I can dual box pretty easily.
Think i will park my Odyssey in an asteroid field get in my Terrapin and look for a great mining area, then transfer to my Arrastra and do some mining and then load my Ironclad with 1500 SCU of refined material and profit!
IMO they just need to get rid of the exploding quantanium thing. It just doesn't make sense to me. So it's perfectly fine unrefined in an asteroid for millions of years, but when you collect it it's only stable for 25 minutes? 🤷 Just appears more something they cooked up for gameplay sake than 'reality'.
The Arrastra is super cool but I think they priced it very oddly. I feel like it's too close to the Orion's current price. Why wouldn't you just find an extra $75 to get the top of the line mining platform? If this had been somewhere in the mid to upper $400 range I think that would have been much more palpable. Either way, I bought both it and the Orion this IAE so who am I to talk! 😆
Orion cant mine on the ground .if you want an arrasta get a valk to galaxy ccu for $5 wait until the galaxy is close to flight ready then ccu the gal to the arrasta.
With the combination of server meshing, persistent entity streaming and the replication layer server being added, this shouldn't be a problem much longer (unless you meant actually crashing the ship and blowing it up...).
I own an Orion, I don't know how I feel about this ship, but I am not buying it atm, gonna give it 1 year to see what happens. 🤔 At the worse, I can just buy her in game. It's fine.
Should you buy a $500+ ship that nobody has used yet, and is not it game? Probably not yet would be my guess, you said yourself they do not even have the current gameplay for the Arrastra. I would say maybe revisit this subject a full 6 months AFTER the ship is released to have a more educated, tested, answer.

3 turrets with 4 size 3 guns each.
I was gonna say this haha
Three Hurricane turrets basically. Not too far off from the Carrack’s firepower, but the arcs probably aren’t as good.
I think that people also missed the 4xs4 and 2xs5 pilot controlled weapons. This thing has guns.
Planetside mining won’t miss a belly turret with defense guns much as while it’s mining because it will be hovering or landed.
@@lorienninavah6696 Those are missile pylons not guns
From the Polaris to the Perseus to the Galaxy to the Arrastra.... CIG have really nailed the Design of large RSI ships. Hopefully this will be passed down to the Connies in the form of a rework.
sorry I dont want everything to be an Arrow head. And making the connies that are lore wise old to the new design makes no sense.

@@steinmayer2791 🤷♂️ I'd go for a MKII variant.
Never dissapoint STL , keep up the good work. these videos usually helps past the time as we are waiting for a ship to release
Rear turret is on rails, like Scorpius.
This is a small group chill monster
2:56 there are some rocks you need multiple moles to crack on lyria in PU at the present time
I wonder if the yields from refining will be lower to compensate for a more automated (and faster) refining system?
Yeah the design does make it a lot more attractive, even to a non-miner like myself 😂
@@MaximizedAction Yup, I'm not a miner but I got one.

Thanks for this review! I think its weapons are three quad-S3 turrets for a total of 12 size 3 guns. I used a CCU chain that I had been preparing since we voted on this ship last year to get it for around half price.
Absolute banger of a design on this ship. Always appreciate these should you buys as well.
I want see you control the 3 mining lasers from the 3 seated positions good luck with that
@@rory-redPeople already do that with the Mole!
Dual box Mole is a thing.
@@rory-red That will be MUCH easier than running around the different turrets on the Mole.
I wasnt about a miner, refining sounded cool. This ship gives both, easy ccu. I can keep the cats i herd in the ship instead of separate prospectors
Been watching your “Should You Buys” since late 2016. Keep up the great work brother.
I wonder how long processing times will take on a ship because leaving it on un manned for 8 hours offline probably doesn’t make much sense
@@yesthehandymancan I have this feeling that when everyone is logged out the ship is removed from the game, this might also stop the processing till you log back on or you find that the processing is complete.
Always bringing a perspective I may have not considered.. I always appreciate a "should you buy" video from you...
i have an orion and well i was pretty sure it had an onboard refinery like the arrastra, i couldnt find anything stating it could and i started panicking, thank you for clarifying the orion is the higher tier ship and can refine on it's own, i will not think about arrastra anymore
each turret has 4 x S3 weapons, so a total of 12 size 3's across all turrets. If you do want the Orion, well you already have the upgrade so just apply it.
correction, turrets are quad mounts
Note, it also has 4 quad S1 missile VLS bays and 4 dual S3 missile VLS bays [those 2 rows of little triangular doors forward of the bridge] The missile description is confusing, but the model and art shows the missiles peeking out of the open ports
Awesome review TYVM
@@davewills148 At CitCon we saw the engineering presentation - 5 minutes later I cashed in my Endeavor.
You could even just use it solo and take advantage of it's high capacity and built-in refinery to turn a profit.
I think the pilot control is over missiles, not guns.
Yes. I read the same. Just like the Hammerhead. If the pilot had control of 4 size 4 weapons AND missiles you'd have a mining gunship :-)@@Kyle-sr6jm

It looks like an Eve Online miming barge. I wonder if it will be able to directly feed the Pioneer for building outposts.
What I mean is:
The Prospector is a little ship with saddlebacks that relies on a refinery/expanse.
Awesome stuff!
The first mining ship that actually makes sense. So I CCU’d to one.
I feel like the 64 SCU internal would be for parts and the refining chemicals.
Actually the top back turret has a rail and swings like the scorpius down i think
I've been mining with a Prospector, and enjoying it, and whilst the MOLE appealed this IAE, the reveal of the Arrastra made it an easy yes from me. I got one as an upgrade to my Prospector, using store credit.
Current loaners for the Arrastra are a Prospector, a Mole and an Arrow.
@@randlebrowne2048 Lol! Seems I can't avoid that Prospector life! ^^ I'll give the MOLE a go too, though the Arrow seems a bit left field.
Any thoughts on the relative value of:
A) 1 Arrastra + 1 Liberator, carrying 4 ROCs between them plus a few escort fighters on the Lib
- vs -
B) the same number of players in multiple Prospectors, 1 Expanse, and some long range escorts flying along?
IMHO the swarm of Prospectors has not only been more productive (everyone can scout, everyone can mine), but has been the most fun.
I'm questioning the Orion's viability if NPC usage doesn't allow it to fully function. That thought makes the Arrastra more attractive me.
Considering what happens when players stuff up a break, having NPCs running mining lasers on Orion size rock will be highly entertaining.
@@Kyle-sr6jm Yeah, I can just imagine the NPC dialog for those situations based on the bounty missions ship to ship dialog.
So i have been using the Mole a lot, I have a Galaxy CCU for my refinery. Then this comes along, I am not sure if its a good plan to melt one for the upgrade or keep what I have. thoughts?
Buy Arrastra (Warbond if you can) + CCU to Orion. Keep the CCU until both ships release.
Refined material would not store in ore bags, right?
Lonaers Mole Prospector and Arrow. Hmmm
No C2 ? because essntailly it has cargo space too. but idk if the lonaer matrix are correct
Thank you for your content, especially your voicing your take on insurance
My main concern about the unknown future is how many support ships and crew take to bring the money?
@@Kyle-sr6jm I got all that, I just didn't know about the construction mod. I thought base building had something to do with the refinery. Thanks!
Not sue how new this page is, but it states some information you mentioned that we weren't yet sure of, like that it will hold two ROC-DS's. I'll post a link in a reply to this post, since for some reason I think youtube has been blocking links, or the content creator has been deleting my posts, haha.
what shoud I do becuses I bought the Orion and then today i accdintly bought the areastra so what should I do. I kinda want to keep both but i dont know.
The Orion will probably get an Arrastra as a loaner at some point. If you have both, you can always melt one to put it on a future buy-back list.
@@randlebrowne2048 ok thanks
512 cargo. You can be out there mining and refining for a long time before having to head to the TDD
Prospector, MOLE, Arrastra, or Orion? Yes,
Though I think I will eventually end up melting my MOLE and keeping the Arrastra for the mid mining game.
This is the industrial sweet spot for me.
Im guessing you didnt watch the ISC on it? Its garage has room for 2 ROC DS vehicles.
great advice
Really hit my impression again as almost always. I just have one question to add from my hopes for the Q&A: Will the Arrastra also be able to land with the external cargo fully filled?
Other than that, since i am mostly a solo miner i just like the idea that eventually there might be a nice selection of refineries flying around and expanding our reach and mission time but i wouldn't buy one
Not sure why it wouldnt? The boxes look like they are on racks, not projected like Hulls. I have a CCU for one ready to go.
@@mustrumridcully3853 Just having my doubts the current 500 scu work out unless the ship itself gets significantly bigger or the external cargo racks can inflate. Like stacking those mining bags for example
@@cv368 The ships is pretty much already White Box. On that basis CIG have a damn good idea of specs. From previous releases, they dont tend to go down on what they state, but sometimes do go up - remember the cargo on the C1?
The changes to mining have really made the size 1 and size 2 mining heads feel very underpowered.
My group size is too small for an Orion. I got in at 300 something. Made an odyssey for 370 lol.
Should I? No. I don't have anyone to game with.
Am i going to? More than likely.
I really like the ship. Did get a small ccu just in case, but hard to pull the trigger when I have an Orion for 290 and do get a loaner. Only real concern is, will the Orion be too big..???
340M as concept and prob will be bigger, is really big in my book.... like 3 carracks lenght....
@ViniciusConsorte ya. Kind of fear even if I find crew for it, you still need more ppl as security and at the end need like 15 ppl on a good day..
Where did you see that Orion will get the Arrastra as a loaner? Or is this just being assumed?
Looks like the mass effect shuttle
This ship is gonna be a massive target, unless it's fully manned with gunners it's a sitting duck
Think i will park my Odyssey in an asteroid field get in my Terrapin and look for a great mining area, then transfer to my Arrastra and do some mining and then load my Ironclad with 1500 SCU of refined material and profit!
short answer: No. Long answer: since its gonna be a concept jpeg for atleast 7 years nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
3 Size 3 Turrets, each with 4 Size 3 guns.
Is what that brochure translates to.
i should not... but i did...
The ship looks awesome but idk if mining is for me. I got bored with solo salvaging
Salvaging is only hull scraping at the moment, and even that aspect of it seems to not be entirely implemented yet.
3 x 4 guns. Check the images again left and right are 4 each.
Thanks for sharing; however, you might be wrong on several assumptions and unsure how you got to them.
Gotta wonder how one can make conclusions on a prototype.
3:48 it can fit 2 Roc-Ds’
solution: just get both Arrastra and Orion
3 turrets with S3 mounts. 4 S3 mounts per turret
Orion cant mine on the ground .if you want an arrasta get a valk to galaxy ccu for $5 wait until the galaxy is close to flight ready then ccu the gal to the arrasta.
Will the Arrastra make it to 4.0?
short answer is NO. Long answer is this ship is at least 3 years out and then plenty of time to get at a later date.
My worries are of wasting a whole night of mining because some bug caused you to crash and now everything is gone
With the combination of server meshing, persistent entity streaming and the replication layer server being added, this shouldn't be a problem much longer (unless you meant actually crashing the ship and blowing it up...).
Right. Even a crash to desktop now will put you right back where you were when you log back in.@@randlebrowne2048
