    Friends. This goes along with my theory that Quincy's mom tried to trap for love and not necessarily for money. I really got the feeling that she felt hurt and betrayed in that scene. And this is just me, but she definitely shouldn't have shown those pictures to him. She busted his "my dad is my hero" bubble in the worst way. 😢

      I agree, she didn't have to do that and I never understood the way Quincy pushed his daddy away. He deserved the divorce I guess because he didn't seem like he missed her but he loved his son and tried his best to lookout for him.

    Friends. I think you both hit the nail on the head about how toxicity is perceived in my generation. Im 23 and I think one of the many problems as to why people have such unrealistic ideas as to what an unhealthy relationship is due to them constantly being bombarded with people who have opinions on marriage and relationships but truthfully experienced either of those things. You don’t know how many times I’ve seen podcasts discussing marriage but not a single person on the panel has ever been married. You have people talking about what it means to have a successful relationship but never actually had one themselves. I think people on social media have degraded the institution of marriage by constantly critiquing it without having any experience in it.

    Quincy did not dog her out before college. But her mom would always say she needs to have her hair done and wear a dress to get a boy. And the only time she got Quincy‘s attention was when she put on a dress and had her hair pressed. And had another man on her arm. when they were kids and when they were in high school. There’s a reason why that is. If she was the one he truly wanted all along why would it take a tight dress and another man giving her attention to get his attention.

    • @HeitCheri
      @HeitCheri  4 месяца назад

      She had his attention the whole time. He only acted on it once he saw her dressed up.

      @@HeitCheri you’re right. I think the movie tried to make the correlation between what her mother would tell her about looking presentable and The fact that Q decided to pursue her once she was dressed up. It gives the impression that she had to change herself to get the man. Just thinking out loud, if she would’ve never showed up to the dance would he have ever pursued her? Or would they have just left off to college and continued their life separately?

    I wouldn't say their love is Toxic,but it's messy..which is real life sometimes. The new generation is used to seeing a power dynamic of the celebs..where these days they see the Woman as the more popular and 'wealthy' of the couple..The ending was groundbreaking..where Monica ends up as a pro,not Quincy..but Quincy is sitting there supporting.

    That’s how it is ( all my life since I was a military brat)
    No matter if you on a bball team, new school or transitioning to new job.
    You don’t have to prove anything but some people will make you feel like it. People love to size you up, doubt your abilities and all but it’s important to know you’re worthy of your position in life.
    I don’t think Coach was toxic
    Monica’s high school coach rewarded poor behavior & her college coach was breaking those bad habits. Also taught her it’s about the whole team not just You.

    It didn’t seem weird to me when Monica asked what we playing for watching I was younger. When I played basketball in high school I often found myself playing basketball games for $5, a bottle of Gatorade, or movie picking rights. It would’ve made more sense in the movie if they established that they played basketball games in exchange for random things in high school.

    when ppl describe this movie as toxic, it’s so bothersome bc it implies that any sort of adversity or conflict is deemed toxic when that’s just regular relationships conflict, Monica and Quincy’s relationship was fine up until Quincy found out about his dad, he’s literally traumatized, so he’s projecting his trauma onto his relationship with Monica and subsequently sabotaging his own relationship, Monica tries to help him, he continues to crash out and then they break up, that’s not toxic, that’s just a bad break up, and most ppl experience that, toxicity implies they’re going back and forth trying to hurt the other, as you can see, they broke up and stopped talking to each other, idk I just don’t like when ppl misappropriate terminology where it’s not applicable bc they’ve never seen a typical couple have conflict and just breakup, I think ppl are being grossly uncharitable to the film bc it depicted a realistic nuanced relationship and it didn’t lean heavily on either spectrum to come to definitive conclusions about the story

    • @HeitCheri
      @HeitCheri  4 месяца назад

      I really feel you on this. People don't have a realistic view of what ANY long-term relationship looks like... Romantic or otherwise. That's why they stay disappointed and turning their backs on people at the first sign of challenge.

    Toxic and criminal are not the same..lol tf?😂
    A person with a pattern of not paying you back after they've borrowed money is toxic. Exual assault is a crime! What kind of analogy was that?
    Identifying toxic behavior is not "detrimental" to society lol. People have their own opinions and we can deal with toxicity according to our subjective values and boundaries

    • @HeitCheri
      @HeitCheri  4 месяца назад +2

      The point being made here is that damn near EVERYTHING is being labeled as "toxic" at this point. Actually, people really like to use that word to label everything from low-level people who offend folks to ACTUAL CRIMES.
      Nobody's saying that individuals cannot apply their own labels as they see fit (I hate that you tried to cobble that conclusion together and imply that's what we were saying), but extremely broad definitions muddy the waters. At this point, if someone labels something as "toxic" the only thing it really communicates is that the speaker didn't like it, because folks call nearly everything toxic at this point.

    Its not Toxic for Coach to have her hold the 'Pretty Finger's pose 😂.. it's not different than if she'd given her Laps or Push ups, etc for the same thing.. That pose compromised her purpose for being in the game.. And Laps, Push ups, Suicides, etc(& holding that pose).. are all activities that correlates with strength building & conditioning to play in the first place.. So It's Not Toxic..
    Plus Coach knows that Monica was a second pick, and could have very well been doing extra in efforts to train her up to where she needed to be, to have been picked First. And Therefore keep up with All thee other girls..
    I also notice a thing here. Where it's like.. Monica may have shrunk herself a bit.. Cuz in highschool they always told her she was too hard.. But for College she wasn't Hard enough 🤔.. 😭😭. Po'Monica.

    Tho its not tapped into a whole lot.. from my experience of doin Sports a bit in High school.. Some Coaches dont Fancy the girls having Boyfriends and such.. They feel like it makes the girls too soft & off focus.. amongst the risk of Pregnancy.. while The Boys are often praised for Having Girlfriends & groupies, etc.. and Males don't get pregnant.. So another reason Coach & the girls could have some extra dip on their chip with Monica is cuz she has a Boyfriend and errbody knows it cuz they are very public about it.. on top of him being a Ball Player himself and How Competive athletic Romance can be cuz Alot of Male Athletes Will Sabotage their Athletic GFs progess/careers by trynna lock em down with Kids and juss doin a number of things to ruin their morale.. and accompany that with the fact that the team had already lost a Player due to her getting Pregnant 🤡😭

    Well women can Have internalized misogyny from misogyny that exist externally.. and Then women can also turn that on each other.. Like Gay Ppl who spew homophobia at each other..
    So its like. The feeling and perspective of thee unfair experience can be valid and the response to it can be counterproductive as it concerns achieving a specific Goal..
    So the girls on her team, may feel like all they want is to be Hot & The Best in college cuz they themselves limit themselves to the conditions that are current at the time.. But they see Monica has Bigger goals that they dont believe in/that remind them of their limitations & they spew self hate/etc on her.. Monica can either let that defeat her and Assimilate to it and Fit in.. Or she can Commit to being her Unique Self & Press Fwd and be the blueprint to prove Errbody wrong. . Its her "How Bad Do You Want It" moments.

      Girl I saw this on Facebook recently too! 😂😂😂 I had to just ignore it because I thought it was wayyyy off. The facts of the film aren't even correct as recounted in this post. Tyra Banks' character DIDN'T leave Quincy after he got injured. She was a flight attendant and she was simply away working. The wedding was still two weeks away when Monica challenged him to play for her love. If the facts of the movie aren't solid, how can I agree with the assessment? (talking about them, not you) 😊
      Nevertheless, we just wrapped recording of the final scene in the film, and my thoughts on the whole thing are there so I won't spoil it since the videos are dropping soon.
