Not saying it's a miracle, but after only a few hours of getting an existing story idea in I've made several breakthroughs. It's like you just put some honey on it and made it all better. Thank you for everything you do Ryan, I hope someday to make your acquaintance.
Kriscoart I've been using Milanote since you showed it in one of your videos (a whole video about it) years ago...Definitely is the best! In fact Kriscoart I truly think you have such a great channel! I have and still continue to learn alot from you...thanks a bunch for your channel and all ya have done and continue to do.
Its crazy to think ive been a fan of you guys since the 1st year of film riot and now many years later and a brand new youtube account and you guys still pump out the inform i need
I am developing a feature right now and this was very helpful. I really want to take my time with the script and make it just right, I will take years if I have to, but I do want to do it in an organized way. Again, very helpful video
Film Riot yeah true that. The feature I am developing has been a passion project of mine for a little while now and I know I won’t be able to make it now so hey, why not work on the story, script, and characters since I can’t really film it yet?
Gotta say i’m so happy this video is about milanote, I gotta agree too, it just makes more sense than all the countless apps i’ve used before that didnt feel practical enough. Their templates are awesome too
Hey Ryan, I was wondering if you could make a video on what usually happens on Day 1 of shooting. I've heard so many varied stories, but they're all so interesting ! Great video by the way, I always use pen and paper for this stage -- but that site / app looks really useful. Gonna give it a shot.
This is great! Never heard of Milanote but glad I did. Like Trello on steroids for movies. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing this knowledge. Time to ditch my stacks of notes, tattered folders and sticky notes. 👍😄
Oh thank you so much, I have wasted hours of searching for such a planning app lst week that works on mobile and desktop but didnt find anything satisfying. Thanks for sharing!
I come from a fine art background so I do all of this in sketchbooks. I use a type writer to slow my writing down to force myself to crystalize my ideas so that I can eloquently express what they are. I type on a A5 piece of paper then stick it in the sketchbook. I treat a sketchbook as a non linear document, think Christyopher Nolen the scrapbook edition. So I work back and forth through the book adding additional elements, text, pictures, articles from journals/book extracts etc. When I have a more solid idea, I will write this as a blog post. I do this for resolution of detail. For example, a sketchbook page with visuals may contain 300 -500 words. But a blog post going deeper on that pages concepts will extend to 1500 - 2000 words. Thus resolution of detail. I will then start to write scripts and longer textual pieces to help lock in concepts and ideas as things become more developed. The whole time work through the sketchbook. I think of this process like a maths exam, in that I may have the "correct answer" at the end. But unless I have my workings (Sketchbook research & Development) then my outcome, no matter how objectively good it is, is poor. This is because I cant evidence and clearly illustrate how I got to that resolved final product. If I have the workings, 1+1=2 then I know the resolved outcome is "correct" to my research and it is therefore achieving its fullest potential based on my development work. The Sketchbook however, the sketchbook is key.
LOL I have been looking for this exact type of note/organization app ALL YEAR. Been going down deep dark rabbit holes trying to find something that worked.
Fantastic bit of software. Thanks for sharing. So much easier having everything in one place, rather than on a multitude of notepads, bookmarks etc. Cheers wee man :)
Pre-production is always hard for me, I am always just so excited to get to production that I don't spend as much time on the treatments, character sketches scripts etc. I am getting better at pre-production, and this software seems like it could help! Thank you!
OK so I've lowkey been needing an organization tool like Milanote for a long time now. Thanks for showing it off! It's hard to get a project going when you still don't have a solid process figured out. My projects are always slow to get going and rushed later because of this and I need to get on figuring this ish out.
Thanks for this! I am in the middle of developing a short film and bouncing between multiple apps for different things! This looks like a great all-in-one and it's affordable!
I've had it one week and honestly. I'm thinking the "premium" upgrade is really gonna be worth it. I have a really tough time organizing my thoughts and have lost many a great plot to the depths of windows file explorer and this already helped a bunch. I just need more space, and I'm willing to pay for it with such a helpful tool.
Ryan I'm a 16 year old filmmaker and I'm going crazy planning everything for the Makefilm challenge😭 this is great help also since this will be the first actual short film I'm making with equipment and actors.
Organizing complex projects can be really frustrating, and sometimes I wish I had a large ‘detective looking’ wall so I can put all my notes. This software is a necessity.
I haven't used Milanote before, but I've been using Causality for the last few months and it's absolutely amazing. It doesn't support photos like you showed with Milanote, but you can completely write the script in Causality, based off the beats and snippets made in the whiteboard/research area.
@@filmriot Working on my thesis film now, so only about 15 pages. It should be perfect to see how I can use Causality and Milanote together to tackle all of me Previs and pre-production work. I've been writing a series during quarantine, and Causality has been great for keeping long multi-episode plot threads managed efficiently.
Hey Ryan, I enjoy watching your videos. You are talented and gracious for sharing your expertise. When are you going to shoot your feature? You have the experience, tools and vision. All you need is a minimal cast, an intriguing story and a location. I am sure you would hit a grand slam! Cheers!
I'm always a little skeptical of subscriptions, its just one more bill to worry about yknow? That said i signed up free, and tried it out. I have a few ideas I'm having a harder time getting rolling but I had a spark of inspiration from an existing IP I've enjoyed over the years so I decided to test that. I got further in 2 hours than ideas I've had brewing for months. Sure its piggybacking a bit but, for testing the product it really showed me how quick, and for somebody who's brain goes three directions simultaneously how easy i can put everything together. If I find inspiration or a song I can just drop it in I can go in and out quickly the collage aspect of the mood board helps me figure out juxtaposition and importance (based on scale) its certainly easier than file explorer on windows
Nice video, I don’t know if I would use it though because I use app called Nebo where it is just simply a app that allows me to write down the ideas in any way that is useful for me, think of a notebook but digital for your iPad with the Apple Pencil, been using the app to write notes for when i was getting my degree and now I use it to put down ideas I have, since I hate using physical pen and paper.
this looks great. I've been using mind mappers in this way but it's much more clunky. Feature thats missing for me though is the ability to sketch out ideas too like you can with sticky notes on a board. As it stands now when you have an idea for a scene is you'd have to draw it out in another program then import that into milanote which is very frustrating. Being a visual person, quick sketching is often more helpful then typing things out all the time.
I just keep some notes and continue my day dream. I try not to fall in love with my ideas too soon.keeping it loose allows me to mold it. I also sleep with my notebook 😂.
Does anybody know if you can enter the Make Film Challenge if you've already entered the MY RODE REEL? I know the make film challenge wants it to be unlisted but MRR requires you to keep it public...
So I'm confused, I did sign up for the account, but is there an actual app I can put on pay Mac? In the App Store it shows as an orange icon but I did notice it's black and white on the website...
Not saying it's a miracle, but after only a few hours of getting an existing story idea in I've made several breakthroughs. It's like you just put some honey on it and made it all better.
Thank you for everything you do Ryan, I hope someday to make your acquaintance.
It’s like you guys know what kind of content I need
There's always been a comment like this since the good ol days.
Sick films bro
This is what almost all Filmmakers need.
Such a great tool to have. Love Milanote!
Can't wait for those projects to come out!
Its crazy to think ive been a fan of you guys since the 1st year of film riot and now many years later and a brand new youtube account and you guys still pump out the inform i need
I love Milanote! I especially agree about having previews to each link - it helps to keep the flow clean
Thank you I’ve just been playing with this for 20 minutes and it’s helping me so much with setting up and planning my photo shoots
This is so much how my brain works in early dev. Been looking for something like this for ages. Thank you!!
I am developing a feature right now and this was very helpful. I really want to take my time with the script and make it just right, I will take years if I have to, but I do want to do it in an organized way. Again, very helpful video
Do it! I've found this sort of organization to be key for me. It gives me the ammo to keep going when you get in the inevitable rough patches.
Film Riot yeah true that. The feature I am developing has been a passion project of mine for a little while now and I know I won’t be able to make it now so hey, why not work on the story, script, and characters since I can’t really film it yet?
I love film riot, I'm out of town working!! Film riot and mostly you Ryan; makes me feel less home sick!! Love you guys
Ryan I think you just saved my life 🤯😳 like seriously this melanote app is what I needed to organize my development workflow.
Thank you, this is exactly the thing I have been crying out for internally. I think this just made my year.
THIS IS THE BEGINNING TO SOMETHING GREAT.
Always great timing with these videos! I actually JUST came up with a film idea yesterday!
I can always count on you guys yo keep me motivated! Keep up the good work!
Wow! This was amazing. I just signed up for Milanote and I'm already plugging ideas into this app to start my film. Thanx!
Thanks for sharing Ryan! You are an inspiration to all us aspiring filmmakers! Keep up the good work 💪
Gotta say i’m so happy this video is about milanote, I gotta agree too, it just makes more sense than all the countless apps i’ve used before that didnt feel practical enough. Their templates are awesome too
100%

Yas! Thx. This is exactly what i have been looking for.
This Video helped so much! Thanks to you guys for giving out so much incredibly valuable information!
Oh lord, I've always needed this and never knew it.
WHOA! Milanote seems dope! Super helpful. Great video guys!
Oh thank you so much, I have wasted hours of searching for such a planning app lst week that works on mobile and desktop but didnt find anything satisfying. Thanks for sharing!
Love it! This is the kind of granularity that I love from Film Riot :)
This was extremely helpful! I love milanote-- thanks for sharing your process!
It's the same for me! I always feel a little messy and all over the place when i use stuff like google docs etc, so this is really helpful thank you!

It's incredible cool. I went from using three different apps to develop to just this one.
I really like your channel. Thanks for doing these. They are all really interesting and helpful.
Fantastic bit of software. Thanks for sharing. So much easier having everything in one place, rather than on a multitude of notepads, bookmarks etc. Cheers wee man :)
Ryan always Rocks🤟🏻
Perfect timing bro - been writings some scripts!
Love structure and fluidity when it comes to building on ideas! Def gonna try milanote!!
This is the story of my damn life right now. Thank you!

I only use my one and only Notes App from Apple. Love it to write down ideas 🎥👌🏻
Thx again Ryan. I need all the help i can get. Google docs is cool, but the organization here looks next level. #filmriotfam
What a cool looking tool. I'm looking forward to learning it!
wow best 👍🏻
Damn...I just signed up a few minutes ago out of curiosity and this actually looks dope. I like using mind maps and the tools it offers. Good find!
Thanks for this! I am in the middle of developing a short film and bouncing between multiple apps for different things!
This looks like a great all-in-one and it's affordable!
For real. Especially the free side of it. It's been nice to get everything in one place.
I've had it one week and honestly. I'm thinking the "premium" upgrade is really gonna be worth it. Thanks a lot Ryan! 😊 This is very useful...!
FINALLY! This is a game changer.
Agreed!
This is great. Thank you for sharing!
LOVE IT!
Organizing complex projects can be really frustrating, and sometimes I wish I had a large ‘detective looking’ wall so I can put all my notes. This software is a necessity.
I am your big fan sir...from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🙏🙏
I haven't used Milanote before, but I've been using Causality for the last few months and it's absolutely amazing. It doesn't support photos like you showed with Milanote, but you can completely write the script in Causality, based off the beats and snippets made in the whiteboard/research area.
I've been meaning to try that out too.

Looks like a great tool for filmmaking. Will have to check it out and use it for our films.
Thank you Man !!!
Looks great, thx for sharing :D
Havent even watched it but i know itll b great 👌🏾

This is so awesome you should do a masterclass about using this site
Totes crazy video I found!
Holy sh*t this looks like the ultimate tool that’s made for me!
I can't wait to see Ryan's very first Hollywood-budget feature movie. Please make it happen, before aliens invasion comes, for all we know.
Fingers crossed!

Thanks Dad! great show
Ooo I need to start using this for sure
Great Video! 😁
I will try it ✌️🙏🏻
I just checked out the website. This looks cool to use.
future proofing myself with this cuz i don't need it now, but i am defiantly gonna use it in future
LETSSSS GOOOOOOOO
that intro text thingy could have totally been a real conversation between Ryan and Josh xD
Based on a true story.
Thanks for sharing
Great vid!
Thank you sir, kind sir, good sir, fine sir, young sir, film sir 🎥
Nice video, I don’t know if I would use it though because I use app called Nebo where it is just simply a app that allows me to write down the ideas in any way that is useful for me, think of a notebook but digital for your iPad with the Apple Pencil, been using the app to write notes for when i was getting my degree and now I use it to put down ideas I have, since I hate using physical pen and paper.
This is great 👍
I love it, Leant alot....
One of these days I’m going get organizized, and when I do, I’m going to use Milanote.
that Bermuda Triangle bit gave me an idea about a short film XD
This maybe the most random thing ever, but I'm I the only one that thinks he sounds like the Street Fighter Voice when he says PERFECT! 05:41
Super 👍👍
looks solid, is the dark theme mode a paid-only feature?
Wow, great😎
this looks great. I've been using mind mappers in this way but it's much more clunky. 💯💯💯
Yasss
I just keep some notes and continue my day dream. I try not to fall in love with my ideas too soon.keeping it loose allows me to mold it. I also sleep with my notebook 😂.
Whooooooooohoooooooooooo
When’s the feature ry guy?
Working toward that. Fingers crossed.
Film Riot Good luck! If you’re writing it, write your ass off.
@@michaelsacco4212 they absolutely do. Everytime. Ballistic is one solid example
Is the dark mode feature only available if you buy the subscription? I can’t seem to find it on the free plan.
Been using StudioBinder but don't feel like I am maximizing it. In fact feel I am wasting most of its capabilities.
Does anybody know if you can enter the Make Film Challenge if you've already entered the MY RODE REEL? I know the make film challenge wants it to be unlisted but MRR requires you to keep it public...
Unlisted is preferred but not mandatory. Submit away. :)
So now I want to see this Devil's Triangle movie.
Really like Milanote, but is there any free alternatives for people?
When are you going to make your next short film?
I never got the name of this program. It looks good for developing chapters in an ebook.
Hi, do you know when the winners of my rode reel are going to be presented?
So I'm confused, I did sign up for the account, but is there an actual app I can put on pay Mac? In the App Store it shows as an orange icon but I did notice it's black and white on the website...
