I have very mixed feelings on film festivals. I still strongly believe they have their place, but once again filmmakers have to plan out at the very beginning stages of even making their movie (particularly features) and just brace for the worst. While showing at those top tier fests may not guarantee you a sale, it still helps with your credibility (whether you win an award or not) and let's not forget the experience of actually being there. Also winning a trophy for all your troubles just feels good lol
I choose film festivals over film awards shows anytime, I've been in Cannes, Deauville, Annecy, Gérardmer and Brest (short film, this one every year) and everywhere there was this feeling of exclusivity, that everyone was here only for the film and not to show off (except Cannes, obviously). I've never had this feeling that filmmakers were doing the film to stick to some festival policy (but it's France so there is a festival for any genre).
A big reason I still believe in the power of film festivals (the right film festivals) is it can help me land the acting talent I would like to work with. It gives me credibility.
To hopefully network, leverage the festival to get press, to advance your career, to get on peoples radars so you can follow up with them which is part of networking and to have fun and remind your investors why filmmaking is a fun investment.
Back in the 80's my friends & myself entered & won many film festivals. We would joke about the content, and came up with a film festival formula called the 'Magic Flute' that had all the boxes checked for winning. It still works today.
Used to but unless you have someone from a tv show etc, you're not going to really get played (depending on the festival). If you have a horror film, it's pretty much all about the gore special effects.
I worked with Glen on my feature, he was very helpful and honest. We eventually found a good distributor. Thanks Glen!
Great to hear! Thanks for posting David. What is the name of the feature? Trailer link?

did you make money? How has it gone? Did you learn that you were screwed over and sell your rights in perpetuity?

Tell more about your experience
I haven’t worked with Glen yet but we’ve spoke several times. I’ve always got a safe feeling when talking to him
May I have his contact number or email, need to contact him regarding a festival feature film

Why do you submit to Film Festivals?

Haha! That reminds me of a video here on RUclips. Do a search for "Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer". It's really funny. :)
