Excellent history lesson, Doctor! ❤❤
Even Doctor Who liked the recap of Doctor Who.
Every doctor until the next one (we still have 10 more doctors (on 1 side of the bi-generated tree) until the 2nd regeneration cycle ends) (and 11 more doctors on the other side)
Hear hear hear.
Well, apart from the mistakes - 0:45 ...
@@Kryojenix Well, I would argue that example technically isn't a mistake. He did introduce the world to an alien called the Time Lord. We just weren't aware he was a Time Lord for the first few seasons.
I know most of this is probably scripted, but his exclamation of delight at Jon Pertwee's Doctor felt very genuine and I gotta appreciate him for that.
He's said on several occasions that Pertwee is his favourite. He says he particularly likes his dress sense.
@@AidanGulaMedia Game recognises game.
Feel he's gonna be the new Pertwee, very action focused and crazy outfits, plus he has that same kind of seriousness
If it had been Jodie Whittaker, of course it would have sounded scripted and false.
@@mayotango1317 Well yeah, she was told outright not to watch any previous Doctor Who. It shows.
Ncuti: David was a bit of a man about town. He travelled with THREE companions!
The first Doctor with his 10 companions: Am I a joke to you?
David has 3 companions....think they counted wrong there let's see
Rose,Mickey,Sarah-Jane,Martha, Captain Jack,Donna,Wilf,Cristina DeSuza(not sure how you spell the last name), Adalaie Brook, Jackson Lake, Jackie Tyler (at 1 point), Astrid. Let's see now that's 12 companions....
I think David still has the most. He had three permanent companions, Rose, Martha and Donna. Several recurring companions: Captain Jack, Mickey and Sarah Jane Smith. And a number of one-off companions: Astrid Peth, Jackson Lake, Lady Christina, Adelaide Brook and the imitable Wilfred Mott, so I make that 11. Add into the account Jackie Tyler and those two characters in the animated episode Dreamland and you have a fairly sizeable number there.
@@DoctorVision @user-tx9tg2lu7c Yeah, I guess it depends on who you classify as a companion. I mostly base it on "indefinite TARDIS crew member" and "in multiple episodes," so I only count the main three and Mickey as Tennant companions, though there's definitely a case to be made for the one-offs and outliers. Even when you exclude Sara Kingdom, the First Doctor era had nine characters written to be indefinite companions, so Hartnell takes the cake for me.
No matter which way you look at it, though, David WAS a bit of a man about town.
@@user-tx9tg2lu7c I think they were only counting regular companions.
Tom Baker: Sarah Jane, Harry, Leela, K9, Romana I, Romana II, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan - 9 regular companions.
3:13 “The thief” “It’s not my fault” 😂😂 10/10 editing there
Got to love how the Celestial Toymaker has gone from a niche enemy to one of the most iconic.
I wouldn't say he's niche at all, used once on TV maybe but pretty wildly regarded and one of the villains many fans wanted back
@@bojurieAgreed. I think I read rumours of his return almost every season of Ten, Eleven and a Twelve, which means he was pretty loved by fans. Only Omega and the Rani probably had more hopes than the Toymaker.
i wouldnt say he was one of the most iconic he's no dalek, cyber man or weeping angel and nor his he the master he's on the same level as iconic as the zygons or the Silurian's
One of the most iconic is a bit much
@@bojurie Well-known to fans, but niche to the casual audience, who make up most of the viewers. Before The Giggle, he was only in one surviving episode and Big Finish.
"My first memory of the show was the Christmas Invasion"
I feel SOOOO OLLLLLLD!
I know that was only 2005 or so...
My first memory of doctor who was The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe lmao
My first memory of Doctor Who is City Of Death… in 1979! Now THAT’S feeling old 😅
@PsychotoasterProd
Try being someone who remembers seeing the very first episode in 1963.
Speaking from experience, it will happen a lot faster than you think at the moment.
First memory Jon Pertwee having a wee lie down after battling a big hairy spider and turning in to Tom Baker with my mum banging on the top of the telly accusing my old man of tampering with the colour settings
Some actors who play the Doctor were big fans of the show (Tennant, Capaldi etc). Some weren't that familiar (Smith, Eccleston etc.). What I love about Gatwa is how, despite the show being on his radar growing up, he clearly wasn't a massive Whovian, but… he is throwing himself 110% into the universe. That's the sign of a dedicated actor.
well, its seems he's always been fond of it at least
No, Ncuti is not a fan. He's part of the new activist movement (including RTD) that hates British past, hates white people, and hates the history of the Doctor - those like Chibnall and Whittaker who desperately wanted to change Who history so that the Doctor was originally a black woman. Ncuti is a racist who complains about all the "white mediocrity" (in a white country) and claims the TV industry is racist against black people, despite there being a HUGE racist over-representation of black people in the media now. Then there's the aggressive agenda to use the show to push intolerant ideologies upon the public, with Ncuti talking about the Doctor bringing "queer energy" to the show and wanting to defeat monsters by twerking. No, he's not a fan, he's a vandal.
We're here discussing a moral show yet the channel owners are intolerant and bigoted, removing my comment when I merely pointed out that Ncuti was openly racist.
@@Scripture-Man How so?
Sorry that the facts of the matter sounds racist to you @@Scripture-Man
The term Time Lord wasn't introduced until the final Story of Patrick Troughton. Troughton also was the first Doctor to introduce his love of Jelly babies.
Eyyyyy
Look it's a fellow🤓
And first Sonic Screwdriver.
I was convinced that The Doctor encountered jelly babies before Tom Baker but everyone told me I was wrong !!!
@@andywals Troughton was the OG in most of the big Doctor Who stuff tbh.
It's just a role for him
I really appreciate the first clip they chose for 12 was the Zygon Inversion speech. Easily one of the best scenes in all of Doctor Who. I'll sing its praises 'til both my hearts stop beating
U ate
Something just tickles me that Ncuti has said all the mainline doctor's names. Also the clip choice was different, but PERFECT for describing each doctor.
THESE SHOES! They fit perfectly.
This made me want to hunt down the 8th doctor and watch him, but I want to finish the classic doctors first! I'm just so excited to get to him, he seems like such a happy go lucky dude, but I have no idea what to expect.
No
@@ruekennedy3316 he's AMAZING
The mans only had 1.5 episode's and i already love him!
So has Paul McGann and look how that went😂
@bengates857 Have you ever heard of big finish? Paul has a collection of stories on audio as 8th Doctor and still making new ones. Honestly, I'd say its gon quite well.
😮💨
Yes, I am so here for the Jon Pertwee enthusiasm. I've recently finished his era and absolutely adore the Third Doctor.
I adore him too
him and 5 are my favorites
That speech from Sylvester at the end of Survival is still bittersweet for me. Reminds me of when Doctor Who was snatched away from me as a kid. Just when it was going gangbusters
7s ratings dropped off the map , not because of 7, because the powers decided he didn't like the show'
I love how pumped he was about Jon Pertwee. The 3rd Doctor is my favourite classic Doctor!
i've watched (almost) every doctor since Hartnell (i think i missed Paul McGann because i was busy being in college) -- and i think Ncuti is going to knock it out of the park. So excited to see him.
I love how much of an ambassador Ncuti is for Doctor Who, he's fantastic, I love him.
NCuti made sure to note the goofiness factor in the past incarnations, to help justify his own Doctor's demeanor.
@@CaptDingDongAbsolutely, I think it's great that he's done the research and put the thought into the role.
What research, it was all clearly scripted.
@@swiftbird4846
Gatwa: "That is EVERY Doctor in 'Doctor Who'!"
War Doctor: 😐
yeah, that's weird that they skipped him!
@@Dr_BombayYou're a terrible listener then, since within literally the first 60 seconds of this video Ncuti clearly specifies "every CORE Doctor" i.e. only Doctors that got to be the lead role on-screen. The War Doctor's only non-cameo appearance on-screen was a supporting role behind Matt Smith. Learn how to pay attention to what people actually say, you'll become all the wiser for it.
Ahh, yes. I'm one who missed that distinction.
Was kinda hoping it was him giving his opinions on all The Doctor’s. Not just him reading off an auto queue for basic info on each Doctor :/
I wonder how much of the show he’s actually watched and if he genuinely knows enough about each doctor to have an opinion beyond clips he may have been shown and an overview given by RTD
@@davidrenwickjunior He says he binged all of New Who when he got the role iirc
@@FirlowXDyeah he did although the time frame in which he said he watched it all would be close to impossible, although he was probably being a touch dramatic saying it was in a week. Definitely knows the heritage of the role well though, you can see that in his performance
@@davidrenwickjuniorhe definitely has a genuine love for the Third Doctor, he had an image of the two of them photoshopped together in matching outfits as his phone background.
It's basically a history lesson for newcomers! I love that he did this
“In 1982 Peter Davidson became the youngest Doctor to play the Doctor” hee! hee!
Has the Doctor ever been played by a doctor?
I'm so looking forward to Ncuti's season. Only a few more days....
What a sparkling personality! Ncuti is so adorable, I'm loving to see him as the Doctor! ❤
Matt Smith's Doctor thought bow ties, fezzes and stetsons were cool 😎🤠🎀
He is my Doctor and I love all of his wackiness and fez/bow tie/stetson he’s just great
Yes, let's not be reminded of all that nonsense.
@@CardiffOneOne it’s just the kind of nonsense I enjoy
Yes they were!
@@shazampool529 He's my favourite doctor too! however 7 might be going for that spot. Well he will always be my favourite nuwho doctor!
I love that he gave each doctor time and attention to show how iconic each and every one of them are
I LOVE that he loves Jon Pertwee so much! As a fellow 90's baby, the original UNIT era is my favourite of the classics too. ❤❤
He's a Pertwee fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ncuti's description of his own doctor kinda sounds like Captain Jack
Matt Smith = legend
Ncuti has such a charming smile! Looking forward to watching the new season
Gatwa: What makes the 15th special?
Me: He is the only one with facial hair
I would love to see 12 and 15 share an episode.
OMG seriously????
Capaldi hasn't even really done Big Finish :(
So looking forward to the continuation... Go get 'em Ncuti
Started with Nine during Eleven’s era. There’s a great many episodes of the classic era I’ll have to watch eventually, so loved this detailed recap!
No SARAH JANE mention?
Mickey and Harkness are both missing, BUT Rory wasn’t forgotten as he often is…
And someone else is missing from the revival era, too, which I don’t take any issue with, since I found the character grating.
You can tell which Doctors are his favorite from the way he talks 😂
Barely talked about Baker lol
Jo Martin, John Hurt and Michael Jayston wish to be heard.
Am I wrong but it sounds like he's saying Davidson rather than Davison? What do you think?
Yes, he definitely does.
1:50 is the second doctor playing the Outlander theme, possibly with his Scottish companion Jamie next to him?
I know all this yet I watched whole video as if I am learning more information.
Man I love this show
I can tell he's going to be very Pertwee-esque in his portrayal. The outfits, the charm, the action.
Also, come on, John Hurt deserves a shout.
Yeah, loved this, but no War Doctor? That's a weird omission....
@@desiv1170 they also didn’t include the Shalka Doctor
@@Fitzroyfallzwhy would they?
They also didn't include Joe Martin's Doctor. Presumably they were just sticking the main ones
no, he already said his doctor will be the gayest doctor , good luck with that haha
Forgot to mention Tom Baker also played Curator making him first actor to play two different incarnations in Doctor Who history.
Paul McGann 8th Doctor finally got proper regeneration on screen years later in Night of the Doctor mini sode and came back for Power of the Doctor. Also he played War Doctor technically since McGann was stand in and young John Hurt CGI put on McGann face.
No honorable mentions for John Hurt War Doctor and Jo Martin Fugitive Doctor while yes both never got full series they still are the Doctor both incarnation still count as regeneration.
It gets more wibbly wobbly timey wimey explaining this to new Whoivans who are getting into series.
Tenant is not just 10th and 14th he is also 11th, and 3rd/15th Doctor going by what 11th Doctor said in Time of the Doctor he said Ten kept the same face he had vanity issues which Clara correctly states 11th Doctor is the actually 12th and he also corrects by stating captain grumpy (War Doctor) still counts as a regeneration despite not calling himself the Doctor. As for what i do mean he's also the 15th and 3rd Doctor well same episode Time of the Doctor Time the Time Lords gave the Doctor new regeneration cycle officially 12th is actually 13th and 1st Doctor new the cycle. 13th is both 14th and 2nd Doctor, 14th Doctor is 15th Doctor and 3rd Doctor, and 15th is actually 16th and 4th Doctor in this new regeneration cycle we will have to wait for the 23rd Doctor who would be the 12th Doctor in the second cycle but of course we will have to wait the long way around to see this happen and officially see the Doctor become the Curator by regenerated into an old favorite face of the Fourth Doctor.
I don't think the Curator was ever actually named as a Doctor, though Tom Baker did play him. Ncuti did say "all the main Doctors" so he was obviously limiting it to the officially numbered Doctors.
He did say "core" Doctors... but mentions of Hurt and Martin might have been nice!
That image of John Hurt in Night of the Doctor was taken from a movie Hurt was in called "Night Crossing". It was about two families who escaped from East Germany in a hot air balloon.
Good Gods I'm gonna be obsessed with Ncuti Gatwa arnt I?
I cant believe he missed out john hurt as the war doctor and jo martin as the ruth doctor which were the other 2 main ones (especially john hurt as he was a big part of the time war)
Edit: just saw other people pointed this out already and he was only talking about the core doctors so only the main ones with a number associated to them so 1 to 15, war doctor and ruth doctor are not main core doctors to have a series on the main show
His love of Jon Pertwee makes me so happy 😊 He's my favorite Classic Doctor
Some phrases of this script feel like they were written by Chat GPT and not checked beforehand....
Like what?
Very cool to see this, the show's getting a lot of new fans and the backcatalogue is very daunting, if the Doctor himself tells you it though, suddenly it's all the same show.
In the U.S., it helps the old show is on Tubi which is nice.
Great vid! My only criticism is skipped past David Tennants 2013 return in Day of The Doctor. Other than that a great vid indeed.
He wasn't the only Doctor to return for that episode. Its finale included 13 Doctors -- all the numbered ones to date (including Peter Capaldi who wouldn't officially take over till the next episode) plus John Hurt's War Doctor, though some of them appeared only in archival footage. There was even a different uncredited cameo by Tom Baker, who is special to some Americans as his Fourth Doctor was apparently the first to air here on PBS in the 1970's.
I love how there were comments about every Doctor, but when it came to Eccleston... "He traveled with Rose. "
Well he wants nothing to do with the show or anything else. So that is probably why.
@@NathanWubs sure, but him distancing himself from the show doesn't really prevent others from talking about him.
Great video. My only complaint is that you skipped 2 Doctors. The War Doctor and the fugitive doctor
Okay, for anyone who says they don't know how to pronounce this guy's name, he says it at 0:13. Hope that helps.
People whinging that this didn’t cover ‘all the Doctors’…
Save some spoilers and discoveries for the new viewers going back to catch up, eh 😉
He started by saying "all the main Doctors", so it was obvious he wasn't gonna cover the Valeyard, the Meta-Crisis Doctor, the War Doctor, the Fugitive Doctor, etc.
@@richellebrittain2127So you're just going to forget the guy that the 10th Doctor met from the episode titled "The Next Doctor" didn't call himself the Doctor?
Ok.
@Exit911YT Actually he DID call himself "the Doctor" initially, until the real Doctor figured out what happened to him. Still doesn't make him an "etc.", much less a "main Doctor".

@@jellybabiesarecool4657 Shalka still deserved a mention 😔
Then there was the Dream Lord...and the flesh copy of 11...
No mention of River Song?
Aw.
River wasn't a companion, but rather his wife, conceived in the Tardis, and able to regenerate. In series terms she was a recurring character, while companions stayed around for a season or more. Jack Harkness was another recurring character who ended up with a spinoff series.
Patrick Troughton was phenomenal
He forgot to mention Matts love of fezzes
Fun video for new viewers, and Ncuti does a charming job... Some of the 'factual' scripting is slightly odd? Almost comes across as AI written in places.
The 50th anniversary in 2013 brought us the War Doctor (first official Doctor Who with a beard - after the cinematic version played by Peter Cushing - in colour too, in the 60s) AND a rerun of the 10th Doctor + introduction of the eyebrows of 12th!!! Then there is the Fugitive Doctor (... a darker Version of River Song - very, very cool) and the burn down regeneration from 13th to 14th took place in October 2022 - after some muddeling about a "Master Doctor" due to forced regeneration, body snatching and redoing that process.
3 uncounted great actors from the official show and 5 more in the Steven Moffat skit from 1999: "Curse of Fatal Death" with lots and lots of the first ever seen bronze Dalecs
It might be.. Or RTD wrote it, he would struggle to know history of the show I feel.
Sad John Hurt noises
Peter Cushing never gets any love.
Correction: we didn't know the Doctor was a time lord in the Hartnell era
Tenant also travelled with more than 3 companions: Mickey, Captain Jack...
‘Three companions’ He means Rose, Martha and Donna, but should have included Mickey as well (if not also sarah Jane and Jack)
Peter Davison was good
Steven Moffat perfected The Doctor's speeches. They always reminded us of how old, broken, yet still wise and kind the Doctor was.
The second doctor’s love of the recorder sounds a lot like outlander’s opening song :o
So excited to see more ncuti gatwa in action
He also missed out John Hurt who was the war doctor between Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston

YOU ALL FORGOT ABOUT THE 50th ANIVERSARY AND THE WAR DOCTOR
“Introduced the world to an alien called the Time Lord.” - What?
Yeah that was interesting to me because I'm pretty sure timelords weren't a thing until the wargames starring Patrick troughton
I'd be happy for an extended cut of this please thank you!
The fact that River was never mentioned is crazy to me.
You misspelt Patrick Troughton in the description.
This was amazing! I seriously cannot wait to see the new series 💙
Loved this 🤗
0:16 This footage is incorrectly attributed. It comes from the 2013 telefilm An Adventure In Space and Time (this particular scene being a 2013 re-edit, as Matt Smith originally stood where Ncuti does)
It is an official clip where Ncuti is there instead of Matt can’t remember what it’s from but there are two separate clips one with Matt and one with Ncuti hopefully I helped out
The idea is that every 10th anniversary the BBC rereleases An Adventure In Space and Time with the current Doctor at that point being the one in that scene. That was the intention from the very beginning, which is why Matt Smith looked very green screened in (because he was, for this reason). Technically you could call this the 2023 release then.
@@InternetStorm yep that’s what it was I didn’t really know how to phrase it thanks for the assist

He has so much energy! I'm excited about his run as the Doctor!
I got a little hot under the collar when he said “he got a much MUCH larger….. wardrobe”
this probably the only thing i dont like so far, i like them having a distinctive outfit
@@The0thDoctor fair enough I kiiinda get that but I just gotta respect the drip, he looks cool asf, also I’m just thinking about like for instance 3 and 12.. they changed up what they wore pretty regularly and it’s never an issue
@@tom_4615 3 and 12 had an element of familiarity though, mainly being their velvet coat, 15 just seems to be in something completely different every episode
@@The0thDoctor People have wondered about wearing the same outfit constantly wearing it out or getting stinky. We saw the wardrobe closet when Tennant was choosing his outfit the first time, and it appears to be an infinite spiral.
Since we know the TARDIS can make anything at will, my theory is worn or dirty outfits get thrown down the spiral to get recycled, and a new copy is produced to replace it. This also explains how the pockets can be bigger on the inside - the copies use Time Lord Technology even if the original was ordinary clothing like Matt Smith's or Jodie Whittaker's when they selected them.
He is soooo charming and charismatic. I could absolutely listen to him talk about anything. So excited for his doctor!!
Most of the original doctors had more than one companion.
And now it’s being loosely rebooted with Season 1
Paul McGann has the big finish stores ever
I think 15 should bring back Bessie and take Jo and Kate for a spin!
I’m admittedly curious what he makes of Jo Martin and John Hurt

Ok, love you Ncuti, but a genuine question, 8th Doctor Adventures TV series when? If there's a WhoVerse, Paul McGann deserves more than a movie, a minisode, and a cameo, he deserves at least one season of genuine Doctor Who under his belt.
I pray for this man's success.
