I'm speechless when I see the carnage from a storm having lost everything twice in my life due to a tornado and then 6yrs later the 2008 flood. I grew up in Keystone Iowa....grandparents had farm in Albia Iowa...my cousin's have it now. It's nice to see some good home folks. I'd rather live in the country so sick of Cedar Rapids. I lived in Orlando and Alabama for almost 40 yrs and came back to Iowa for my mom who just turned 90. I want to go back to Alabama again ...I loved it there. Life was so easy there. Prayers to y'all

There were a couple tornados fairly close, but nowhere as close as you had! Yep, we got the snow too & now next week it's supposed to be in the 60's!! Very strange weather! One can't hide from the weather, all areas have their ups and downs. I live in the city, next to basically the Atlantic, we don't get tornadoes, but there is no shortage of howling wind, today the wind is rattling everything, had Torrential rains earlier . . . on the upside it also took most of our snow. Glad everyone is okay. You had mentioned that you had candles lit in the house because of the power outage. From a safety aspect,.....you may want to replace the candles with battery powered lights. If things start shaking and bouncing around, the candles may fall and/or come in contact with something that starts burning, which would create a whole new problem in a storm.

I firmly believe Our Lord sent you a message when the power came on Abby...That Hog House Light came on after years of not working! That filming of the Tornado being highlighted in the Lightening was both eerie and surreal. I'm grateful no one was hurt, the animals are all safe and the damage was kept to minimum considering what tornados are prone to do! Hello Mike! Yes, the tornado that hit Winterset stayed on the ground for almost 70 miles and it was the same system that produced the tornado that hit us. We have much to be thankful for!
its amazing how strong some of the old farm houses and buildings are. alot of them were built with old growth douglas fir which you cant really get any more. and they used dimentional lumber back then too so a 2x4 was actually 2x4 inches not 1.5 x 3.5 inches like they are now. great video i subbed. gotta love good ol iowa be 60-70 one day then snow the next lol bipolar weather for sure.
Hello Barbara! Not usually! We had a couple of random 60 degree days and then we dropped back down to cooler temps so I guess it was the perfect combination to form a tornado. We're certainly counting our blessings!

We have had SNOWNADOS here in Oklahoma a few times, we have more tornadoes than snow. I once lived in Harlan, Iowa, my late wifes home town, I was born in Omaha in 1953, I left Omaha for Oklahoma City in 1976.
