Hey everybody! We've been getting a lot of questions about why we didn't plow the snow out before pulling the truck out. I just wanted to come on here and explain a little bit. I promise you that we plowed the snow out from behind the truck but it was so windy and the snow was so powdery that it just blew back in as fast as we could clear it out. Dad actually had all the snow cleared out up to right behind the truck but it just blew right back in immediately. We were just trying to get it done as fast as we could and do our best to deal with a bad situation. I hope this helps and Thank-you for all of your support!
We got snowed into Fort Dodge one time. When we did make it home 2-days later, we found three men living in the house. They had been out Pheasant Hunting and got caught in the storm. We were happy they did because they kept the fire going and the pipes didn’t freeze.
Ive heard of folks tying a rope from the house to the barn so they could find their way back in a blizzard. Old time ingenuity in case of a whiteout. Where I am, the last frost date is today, May 8. Yay, spring is right around the corner.
On the farm, North of Fort Dodge, I saw -75 in January of 1974. Phone Poles were exploding. We strung a rope from the house to the garage and from the garage to the barn and Chicken House. Dad slept in the barn and I slept in the Chicken House keeping fires going for the animals. I never want to do that again. We had a coal/wood furnace in the basement and we burned anything that we could. We never bought wood so we gathered and split everything ourselves. Heat didn’t go upstairs. We had registers but they only let up what heat rose up there. I recall ice and frost on the wall up there. There were many times, we would close off the upstairs and sleep in the living room.
Wood stoves are so good. Merry Christmas blessings dear people. Stay safe and warm. It was 0 degrees earlier this morning in Kentucky. About two inches snow
Glad you are coming through this arctic blast with all warm inside. God bless you all especially Adam for going out in that brutal cold to help a neighbor.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up! Was thinking just that! 😉I remember one storm like that here in Sweden, but it was 20 years ago.. Hope you all is safe! Blessings! 🇸🇪😃
Hello Abby and family!! A farmer’s job is NEVER done! So much to do in preparation for a winter storm! The animals look nice and cozy! We had some expected Christmas miracles turn into a tragedy! 😢 Hope to post it today. May you all have a blessed Christmas from your fellow RUclips friends from Kansas!
Hello Grimm family! I hope you're all making it through this cold weather safely! There is certainly always something to do! Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that! We'll be waiting for the video to hear more about it. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Such a great video. Keep up the great work and that Wood Stove looks sooo comfy. I love the aroma of wood burning it kinda puts you in a very mellow mood 😊❤
(Powell, Wyoming) Blizzard Conditions and Livestock Warnings, Wednesday -52°F, Thursday -46°F, Friday -28°F and today a HEAT WAVE of 24°F (t-shirt and shorts weather). Stay Warm. Be Safe and have a Blessed and very Merry CHRISTmas.
Hello from a very wet Cumbria (Northern England) , I hope that the weather improves soon at your side of the Atlantic as snow makes all work far harder especially at Christmas . The people who like snow the most never have to work in it and the best place for snow is on Christmas cards. Thanks for all the great videos you make and I would like to wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year.
Awesome vid Abbi. Wow that sounds like a serious storm. That is Alaska Eskimo weather. Glad to see you and all the animals came through this storm in good shape. I think the sheep are the warmest with their homemade coat lol. Happy that the family and animals are all safe. Oh, Abbi you make a fantastic supervisor. Job well done. Love the Christmas tree and Merry Christmas to the whole Todd family.
We were getting the same thing over here in Marion just east of you. I recall a minus 12 day at Iowa U and a morning class in a metal hut on Clinton Street, listening to a boring lecture on Dante's Inferno (some irony), We had a chorus of teeth chattering and almost no heat in that old metal building. Back then, they never gave the wind chill numbers, but wow, it was brutal. I have despised literature ever since. Tell Adam to watch that skin...frostbite in as little as 6 minutes can happen with the kind of numbers we are seeing locally. Great job helping that neighbor!
Merry Christmas Todd family!!! I'm constantly impressed w/ the care farmers have for their animals! Looking out the truck window when u were supervising, that is the visual definition of 'bitter cold'!!
Your video said it all Abby!! Soooooo cold!! I hope your dad didn't get frostbite! But that's what neighbors do in times of trouble. He sure blessed him by doing that. So glad you are staying toasty warm! And your animals too! May you and your family have a very merry Christmas !
The last 3 days the winds have been crazy! My hubby was up as far as Janesville and Aplington doing phone/internet line repairs .. Thursday's windchill at 7pm was -43 not a lot of snow but the winds made it drift so bad in places
Yes! We are hoping that, since the frigid cold came earlier than usual, January and February will be nice and mild! Probably wishful thinking, but we can be optimistic!😁
Hello. I enjoyed watching your video alot. Abby. I hope you all stay warm from that horrible Winter Storm. I sure like your Christmas Tree you have in have in your house. It is so beautiful. Your farm animals are very nice you have there. It been very Cold here all week where i live at my farm by Reward Saskatchewan Canada. The temperature got to minus 35 most of the week. It is supposed to start getting warmer on Christmas Day and all next week. We have a lot of Snow here too and we have been getting a lot of Snow Storms here too where i live at my farm by Reward Saskatchewan Canada. Merry Christmas to you and your brother and your Sisters and your Mom and Dad and your Grandma and Grandpa. I hope you have a very nice Christmas Day. God bless to you and your family. Abby
-37? I can't even imagine that Abby. It's no piece of cake waaay down south (GA) either but the lowest we've been is 13. So I guess that would be welcomed by y'all. Anyway take care in the blizzard and thanks for sharing it all with us. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Got down to 4 below 0 last night here in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina with the wind blowing 40 to 50 mph gusts Finally up to 4゚ at 10:49 AM Eastern standard time
@@ToddFamilyFarm we are right outside of Alden , right next to Iowa falls. Our farm is tiny though , only 4 acres. The snow and ice was no joke without a tractor. I don’t know my neighbors yet so I wasn’t going to bother them. It’s so nice being out in the country with all the farms . I’m hoping to find an old hoofty tractor to push and pull stuff around the property . We’ve slowly been moving stuff back and forth from our other house , the snow makes it interesting. 😂
Seeing how much of problems 5 inch of snow and 40 miles wind cause in iowa out in country where its wide open makes glad that I live in dsm lot of home and building to block wind some
Awesome video Abby. I loved seeing the animals all cozy and content,it does my heart well, every time I see you showing affection to your critters, keep up the amazing footage.Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Todd family. May God richly and abundantly bless you during the coming year 🙏
And to think it was worse over in NW Iowa where we moved from 3 years ago to come to TN! Not to worry though, the cold and wind chills made down here to the mountains as well, we just didn't have the blizzard. Glad everyone is okay and warm and the critters are cared for. We're finishing up Hanukkah here so, if you would Miss Abby, let the whole Todd Squad know we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and may God bless you all abundantly!
I haven't been complaining much about the -5°F here in PA because I know it's so much worse in other places. Keep warm and safe please. Merry Christmas Todd family!!
You don’t have to apologize to anyone about how you look all bundled up, it’s better to protect your ears and nose and your face against the frigid weather But hopefully you get through this blizzard safely We experienced a blizzard in 1978 and it paralyzed the entire New England area just like in Buffalo
Yes Abby this weather has been brutal here in South Central Ky it’s currently 15 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree. Thursday night into Friday morning it was 4 below 0 and a wind chill of 25 below and a couple of inches of blowing snow. No where near as bad as you guys. Glad you got the animals took care of stay safe out there by next Friday it’s supposed be in the low sixties here, crazy weather 😂
Those who have no fear to work outside under the blizzard weather conditions are truly Midwestern heroes! No doubt for those who live under the same conditions in the same period of time.
We gone got that and it’s -19 temp and very very very cold . We put all our animals in the barn leave the doors shut and put heater troughs with water and give the bedding

What the heck, you had the loader tractor out there. The first thing to do is use it to plow all the snow away from the stuck vehicle. then you can back right up close and pull it free. Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas to the Todd family.
trust us we tried moving the snow, it was so windy and fine it was blowing back in as fast as we were busting it up, it was a mess, there was no where to push the snow to. it was a pretty ugly situation and we were just doing the minimum to get it fixed. It took our county maintainer an hour to clear that drift out yesterday when the weather was nice, and no one was stuck. it was just a really big mess and the video just doesn't do it justice. in the end, we did it as fast as it could be done, no one was hurt and nothing was damaged--- the best of a bad situation
If I lived out there I would have to hire someone trustworthy to take care of the animals and I would then fly south to Costa Rica for the winter 😂 brrrrrrr TC God bless y'all and Merry Christmas 👍
It got negative 45 with wind chill in Maine Man that sucked that was weird I don't remember it ever getting that cold I've seen -25 I've worked in it but yeah that was kind of a weird day
Your warm clothes are not ridiculous. Fashion has no place when it comes to warmth. Long John’s, Ski Caps, Mittens and layers are the thing. Anybody who will disagree, hasn’t been cold enough.

I hope the dogs are only kenneled up because of the weather. Why else would anybody lock up dogs on a farm?
yes kenneled up during extreme weather, and at night, cause it's not very neighborly to let dogs roam at night
That depends entirely on the dog.
