Fun fact; all of the character designs are based on simple shapes and colors. Jack is a blue hexagon, Tooth a purple diamond, Bunny a green triangle, Sandy a gold circle, North a red square and Pitch a black coffin. Which a coffin is technically just an elongated hexagon, symbolizing how Jack and Pitch were very similar but ultimately went down different routes in life.
This is actually based on a book series by William Joyce called The Guardians of Childhood and there's a far more extended lore behind everything you see here. It's a tragedy that there was never made a sequel to this
I love this movie, and it has my favorite depiction of Santa I have ever seen. And technically, this is closer to being an Easter movie than Christmas. I love the way the characters are depicted. Especially Pitch. The whole thing with the black sand is that it was Sandman's power. Pitch stole and perverted it. That's why he didn't have control over the nightmares at the end. They were never, really, his. It was stolen power, and as soon as he was afraid he couldn't command them anymore. I loved the Tooth Fairy's punch at the end. Her whole thing is that she takes a tooth and leaves a coin. Well, when she flipped Pitch a coin and he caught and kept it, she was entitled to one of his teeth. That's why she was able to hurt an immortal like that. A nice touch.
Came out the same year as Brave, Wreck it-Ralph, The Lorax, and Hotel Transylvania. Frozen also came out before Christmas a little less than a year later. This movie is a favourite of mine and is so underrated, glad you watched it and liked it. "Knock him out, Sandy!" kills me everytime.
My older sister is obsessed with this movie. On a rewatch, I really agree. Has a good plot, very balanced in content, and a nice message, with good animation and good characters too.
8:50 'So who is Pitch Black?' is a great question and I'm gonna do a tiny lore drop: the movie is based on a series of children's books called The Guardians of Childhood, which some fans like to think of as backstories for each character. According to those books, he was once a hero of the Golden Age named Kozmotis Pitchiner, a Faerie. He was turned into the Nightmare King mostly due to protecting others from something called Fearlings. I've not read the books myself, though I am still planning on it, so if anyone here has corrections or elaboration to offer, feel free to add onto this! :D
You got it pretty much on the nose. There's a bit more backstory as to WHY Pitch turned as they gather the Guardians, some who didn't make it in the film (which is a shame). This movie came out before Sandy's and Jack's books, so their stories are a little fudged. But there's a reason why Sandy and Jack are both so powerful and connected to Pitch.
Apparently in the book series, Santa was a Russian bandit leader and the elves were his criminal gang. They didn't quite stick with that for the film, but there are hints of it. The film also has a prequel story thing on the DVD where they explain that Pitch used to be a Guardian himself. His job was to scare the kids away from danger. But as time changed and that wasn't necessary, he refused to stop scarring them and stopped caring if he was helping them or not.
I feel like this film is underrated it's probably cause if I remember correctly 2012 and the early 2010s were filled with animation competition. It's not the best animated film but it's really great. Rise of the Guardians feel like one of those animation films where over time it gains a following
There is a theory that Jamie and his sister are actually descendants of Jack's sister. Jamie looks very similar in the brown hair and brown eyes. Had a true heart and never stopped believing.
This is one of DreamWorks most loved and underrated movies. It was originally going to be a trilogy but it did poorly in theaters. Once it came to DVD it sold really well
One of my favorite Dreamworks film^^ If you have time, I strongly recommend "Prince of Egypt". Despite the religious background, the film itself reorganized the story from Exodus as many characters are multi-dimensional in some ways. You will not be disappointed with the musical notes and visuals, that I guarantee.
This was one of my favorite movies when it first came out, so I’m glad to see you react to it! I’d definitely recommend watching Luca, I think y’all would like it
I remembered watching in theaters and the cast was stacked Chris Pine as Jack Frost Alec Baldwin as North. Hugh Jackman as Easter Bunny Isla Fisher as Tooth Fairy Jude Law as Pitch/Boogeyman Dakota Goyo as Jamie
"Arthur Christmas" (which is most definitely *_NOT_* to be confused with "Arthur's Perfect Christmas") is also a pretty underrated and not-very-well-known Christmas movie that I think you'd enjoy.
"Who is Pitch?" Alright, okay, so in the books Pitch has an entire tragic backstory that involves possession by dark spirits he was helping keep imprisoned, but the movie lore is drastically different and my personal preference is to keep them separate. If you look into the unofficial ROTG comics by Johanne Matte, it indicates that Pitch is a primal spirit of fear that predates humanity. Either way he's pretty neat!
This is one of my alltime favourite movies, I'm so glad you watched this! It is super underrated but does have its fans. If you’d like some old underrated animated films, I really like Cats Don’t Dance and Quest For Camelot, both have fun songs and a good story imo. Quest for Camelot has one of my favorite couples in an animated film, I had the biggest crush on Garrett when I was a kid
You're not too far off with the "guardians of the galaxy" thing! While Santa was a human bandit king wizard in his mortal life (that's why he's so "ganster"), the other Guardians, Pitch, and the Man in the Moon are all Aliens/Ancients. Thud movie was actually based on a book series called the Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce, and there's all sorts of interesting lore involved! Like, did you know that Pitch was an All Might-level Hero to his kind before he was tricked and corrupted by the Fearlings? Gosh, everything about this series is just mind-blowing!
This has been my favorite movie since it came out. They didn't have enough money for marketing, and it bombed at the box office despite it being an animation masterpiece and an excellent story.
This really is an underrated classic! Unfortunately it was released around the same time as Frozen so it got completely overshadowed. I'm so happy to see you react to it and that you like it! It'll always have a special place in my heart.

But he wasnt fadt enough because the darkness manged to kill his beloved wife and duaghter.. 💔 And because these seals needed a guardian the king chose kozimos for this cost.. After losing his family he slowly began to lose his mind and the darkness used that to their benefit by mimicking his duaghter's voice to isnt dead and had been captured by them this whole time .. "she" cried for her father to save her for months and in the end kozimos couldnt take it anymore and was forced to open the seals to save "his duaghter".. instead he got posessed by the darkness and became pitch black...he corrupted his army of golden warriors to become nightmares and nightmare men and with them he manged to destroy the kingdom he once swore to protect and killed the king and the queen.. I guess it’s gonna feel weird to make this a race thing, but especially since you watched Encanto, you should really check out both West Side Story’s. The new one may be resonating more with today since they now went out of their way to make the hispanic representation more realistic. Also, it’s one of Spielberg’s best goddamn movies in a long time, the new one.

So underrated! I rewatch it every now and then. A sequel has so many story possibilities, a shame it was never continued

Yeah, this movie turned 10 years old a few days ago and it never got a sequel or TV series. Such a shame, because it has a lot of potential.

This was so incredibly underrated. Criminally.
Cried at Jacks memory for some reason… he saved his sister having her do something “fun” like hopscotch

The books were wild anyways. Jack Frost was an alien and the man in the moon was literally a man.

This is definitely an underrated movie that needs more praise
There is a theory that Jamie and his sister are actually descendants of Jack's sister. Jamie looks very similar in the brown hair and brown eyes. Had a true heart and never stopped believing.
That make sense as to why Jack tends to be around Jamie more than other kids in the same area if that theory is true.
Also at the beginning of the movie Jack asks the wind to “take me home” and it takes him to this town.

Hugh Jackman( the Easter Bunny) for some reason in almost all his movies he is terrified of heights I wonder if he actually is scared of heights
Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, and others are the children's heroes

We are all real, you know. I know I am! I so wish they would make a sequel.
A good movie to watch (that I don’t see many react to) is Sneakers with Robert Redford.
AWESOME-O!!!!!!!!
i suggest watching secretly greatly
🤯🤯 I freaking love this film! Please please can you watch the Netflix movie called "klaus". It's one of the best Christmas film that I watched.
So you're saying Spielberg hasn't made any good movies lately?
His version of West Side Story is one of his more notable failures.
