The lack of Bruce Wayne in this movie was the best and most under appreciated decision. This version of Batman is still only fully obsessed with revenge for his parents killing. I mean, not really. The movie was dull without him. I really liked Bruce because it adds a depth of character to him instead of just vengeful and edgy vigilante (which I already saw in Batfleck anyway). If he's 110% angry in this, imagine the acting skill it would show if he also played the playboy jerk that is Bruce, would've been a treat. Plus, I thought that was the point? For him to be absolutely dark and broken inside yet completely opposite when he's Bruce. I liked the movie as a psychological thriller, just not as a Batman film.

So I got some trivia about Batman:
-The film takes inspiration from Frank Miller's Batman Year One and Tim Sale's/Jeff Loeb's Long Halloween, in which Selina Kyle (Catwoman) is Carmine Falcone's daughter and the one responsible for the iconic scratch on his face. Falcone also shares his backstory with his comic book counterpart.
-Edward Elliot is an allusion to the modern Batman villain Hush, Thomas "Tommy" Elliot, a formerly renowned surgeon and the childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. His whole deal is that he hates Bruce Wayne because he envies the things he became; the things the attempted to become himself when he tried to kill his parents only to succeed partially. This hatred was only fueled when he discovered that Bruce is Batman. As best put by Scarecrow in the song "Hush, Little Baby" from which Elliot's name is derived from as a joke, Hush is boy who is forever discontent with what he has. In the Hush movie adaptation, Tommy was replaced with Riddler which I absolutely hated because Hush is one of my favorite villains and it is a complete betrayal of who he is as a character.
-The Riddler is a villain who was introduced sometime in between the Golden and Silver Age of comics. In his first outing, he was a man who scammed people out of their money at carnivals (and somehow got super loaded) and then tried his talents at something bigger as The Riddler. Future comics have since expanded on his backstory. In one iteration, The Riddler was abused by his father for cheating on a puzzle when he really did solve it on his own. In another, he actually did cheat but protested it when he was beaten. While I personally prefer the former version, both do a good job of explaining The Riddler's arrogance and compulsion to prove he's the smartest man in the room.
-In spite of being one of Batman's most iconic rogue's gallery, The Riddler has often bounced from an A-list and C-list villain with him usually not being taken too seriously. This doesn't mean that he isn't a threat however as he has crossed serious territories like in his appearance in Peter Milligan's Batman Dark Knight, Dark City and Zero Year, just to name a couple that come to mind.
-The Riddler's name is Edward Nygma (as in "enigma") but it has changed to Edward Nashton with Edward Nygma being a pseudonym. I don't remember if that was retconned later though but other media have just kept The Riddler as Nygma for the sake of simplicity.

The higher level crooks only hear rumors and fables. When he went to the club that seemed to be Batman's first real big suicide mission. Which made sense for the urgency of the case, the mayor was just killed. I bet that was Bruce's 2nd or 3rd time flying in that suit and the moment he risks a tricky maneuver he completely eats it. It’s a line from the comics. Clark Kent wears the persona of Superman. Batman wears the persona of Bruce Wayne. Pattinson really gave us Batman’s brooding pathos. It became my favorite big screen iteration in mere moments. A movie for which I had few expectations and ended up loving.
It even showed Batman’s true heart as he waded into the water to rescue those people. And comforting the woman or girl who’d been injured. I honestly couldn’t tell how old she was. We’ve only gotten the rough and tough Batman, but there’s a few scenes in both comics and animation that shows the real heart of Batman. This teased that a little, which I really appreciated. Bruce is terrified of losing any more people he cares about. So it’s best to keep folks at arms length. Because he cares too much.
My last thought, even as they separated, is I could easily see this as one of the universes where he and Catwoman have a kid. As much as I loved The Eternals, and I absolutely did, masked Batman and Selina had better chemistry than Sersi and Ikaris.

Hey Anthony and Dos Cavazos fam, it’s your friend Brandon here. man I’m happy you’ve seen the Batman it’s fantastic. Glad your wife enjoyed it it was great watching both your reactions on this epic journey. Definitely my favorite Batman Movie ever made. For me it exceeded more Batman than Chris Nolan’s ever did and just as expertly and smartly written. Detective story is so cool. Can’t wait for the sequel and the HBO Max Penguin and Arkham Asylum Spin-off Shows. Matt Reeves Verse is 🦇🔥

It’s probably my favorite movie of all time. It’s up there with Infinity War/Endgame, or Empire Strikes Back. I love it so much.

The first 10 mins where they show these dark places where Batman could be is Halloween-esque, like the ending of the 1978 film

So Robert's scene in The Lighthouse when he was beating the hell out of a seagull was definitely what affirmed him being ready for The Batman for me.

This was truly his second year, because an older Batman would've realized that all the pictures from the riddler would've had to come from across the street from the club, but he's still learning

If The Joker was a film about a broken man becoming Irredeemable, than The Batman is a film about a damaged man becoming a Force for Good! When Batman lead the people in water to safety, was Bruce first steps from being Vengeance to The Dark Knight. The whole cast did an amazing job.

The part in The Dark Knight when Batman gets picked up by a airplane is a called the Fulton Recovery System. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how uncomfortable and painful getting jerked off the ground by a plane would be.

1:04:39 While watching in the theater I looked at his adrenaline and it's detail when he took it. It's green, he became aggressive, he wanted to beat them to a pulpe and possibly to death and didn't listen to anyone. That's no adrenaline that's Bane Venom

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this already but, if you have the deleted scenes available, watch the one where Batman talks to The Joker in prison. Very creepy segment that could have easily been kept in the film.

Great reaction. Funny thing. So captions is usually automatically on, and of course it doesn't get everything right. Not that I needed it for this video but In stead of "I am vengeance" it said "I am vegan"....I spit out my drink when I saw that. lol

Fun fact: the guy who plays Phil Coleson the DA in the movie is Peter saarsgard. In real life he is married to Maggie gyllenhaal who played Rachel Dawes in the dark knight. Both of them have now played characters who worked at the District Attorney’s office and died via explosion in a Batman movie

I like that there is no solid reason or culprit for the Wayne murders. And I like how we really don’t know if Thomas was corrupt, just a good man that made a mistake, or a little if both. Alfred thinks it might have been Falcone, Falcone says it might have been Maroni, but in the end we don’t really know for certain. Alfred would of course be biased in Thomas’s favor to see him as a good man, and Falcone can’t be entirely trusted. It could have just been a random robber that killed them on a very coincidental night. And Thomas, good or bad, did go to Falcone.
Batman has to make his own identity outside of the influence of his parents murder. That’s his arc through the film is finding out who he, the Batman, really is. A vengeful shadow that scares all of Gotham’s citizens, or a hero that stops the corrupt and criminal, but also lifts up and gives hope to the good.
