  • Batman is finally here! Fantastic job by all involved in this movie.
Badd Medicine here and Batman reaction time! Wow, just wow! Matt Reeve's did justice to the Batman here. Robert Pattinson, we are sorry we even had doubts about you when the news broke you were casted as Batman. And dang, Paul Dano, you crushed it as The Riddler! I mean all those details were just outstanding. And Colin Farrell you can't even tell it's him! Zoe Kravitz... awesome job! We need more Andy Serkis as Alfred! This didn't feel like a 3 hour movie! The ride they took on here was a fun one. I did like the Riddler's game. And mind blowing news about Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne since we don't know much of what is in the comics. It would've been nice to have Carmine Falcone to stay a little longer. The stories could've been great to come from him. Seeing Batman in year 2 was cool, because we see he is still picking up somethings that he might not get right away. The Batman 2 has been confirmed and can't wait for that. Will the Joker be apart of that? We did see that tease at the end of The Joker.
What was your Batman reaction? Are you ready for The Batman 2? What characters stood out the most here?

Yall should react to Moon Knight!! Its one of those marvel series that doesnt feel like marvel and it dives deep into the mental health of the protagonist and all the characters have interesting backstories actually. And yeah its PG 14-15 but not like Daredevil, altho the plot is the most interesting part of the story and Moon knight's suit is FIRE 🔥

They teed up so many potential future storylines. Hush or Court of Owls could be worthy candidates. We meet Selina Kyle, Oswald Cobblepot, and Edward Nashton but in many ways they're just on year one of their journeys and I look forward to seeing them come closer to their comic destinies. The only thing that bums me out with this gritty, noir, realistic take is that I feel it decreases the odds of the more outlandish and supernatural elements from coming into this version. Like I don't see how Poison Ivy or Solomon Grundy could exist in this world.

One thing I really liked in this film I don’t see many people talking about is how there are some moments where being Bruce Wayne was more beneficial than being Batman. That cop at the beginning doesn’t trust Batman and calls him a freak but at the funeral he greets Bruce with a huge smile. Even the twins were surprised to see Bruce Wayne at the club and just let him in.

    • @michaelccozens

Great point! It really lays the groundwork for Bruce realizing that his "billionaire" persona can serve as a complement to the Batman, especially as his personal rage and grief begins to take a back-seat to strategizing in service of a larger goal.

Exactly. And early on Alfred is referencing accountants for the Waynes and Bruce doesn't care because all he wants is vengeance. But had he gotten involved in the Wayne side of things maybe that "world's greatest detective" brain would have caught what was going on with the Renewal fund. But year 2 Batman was so mired in lashing out at street criminals he wasn't able to care about anything else. Fingers crossed the next movie has Batman needing to cultivate that Bruce Wayne side of himself more now that he knows he can't just punch Gotham's problems away!

Batman’s arc in this movie is perfectly surmised by one consistent bit of physical acting
1.) Bruce is visibly squinting in the entire scene where Alfred is trying to decode the first cipher because of daylight streaming in from the windows
(“Two years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal”)
2.) At the end, when Bruce is helping the woman on the stretcher being elevated, he’s looking up, clear and wide-eyed in the daylight
Vengeance in the night -> Hope in the light.

Also the first time, I think, that we see the Batman in the dawn.
This movie is just a masterclass in creating dense layers of meaning via symbolism. It's like a well-done comic, like Alan Moore's "Watchmen"; you can look back again and again and again, and there's always something else that you maybe didn't see consciously, but that added to the overall message. As the guys over at Red Letter Media put it, "you may not have noticed it, but your brain did".

Falcone has been depicted as Selina's father in multiple continuities most notably the new 52. I'm not sure if that's still true in recent comics though. Also, the whole reveal of Martha being an Arkham and her history of mental illness was pulled directly from "Batman: Earth One." I really hope joker isn’t the villain in the sequel because there are so many other great villains that I’d argue are better than the joker, I hope Matt Reeves really is doing a cold cold heart inspired Mr Freeze storyline or an identity crisis storyline with Hush like he said he plans to

@@notthefia9154 the comics have always balanced gritty realism with dark supernatural and sci-fi elements, I don’t see why they can’t in this universe. Especially since we’ve only got one The Batman movie set in this universe and it hasn’t enforced a “realistic villains only” rule. If there was already two The Batman movies in a row with serial killer villains and gangsters then it would be out of place.
And yes, I’ve been commenting this same thing quite a lot, people think that villains like Bane, Mr. Freeze, Clayface and Killer Croc wouldn’t work in this universe but in fact, it would be the perfect time to add the more supernatural and sci-fi elements to the sequel.

    • @notthefia9154
      @notthefia9154 2 года назад +2

@@barakaafrobama6519 I wrote that really poorly now looking back on it, I more meant yes they could absolutely do the more out there villains that aren’t necessarily average people by physical appearance like Bane, Croc, Clayface or even ManBat. But my point was that if they were to tackle for example Bane, I feel like the perfect casting choice would be someone like Dave Batista who has openly expressed his love of Bane, but is also just so physically massive compared to Robert Pattinson that I think it genuinely would give the impression or illusion that he was on venom, but at the same time I reckon he also could play an incredibly comic accurate depiction of an intelligent, methodical mercenary Bane who isn’t just some venomed up giant that smashes things and runs head on at Batman or like TDKR where he’s just ever slightly a better fighter and more physically stronger than Batman is. But I suppose because of Ledgers passing and how much it stop started the writing and production of that movie, Hardy wasn’t given nearly enough time to go on a bulk cycle so focused on extensive weight training and admitted to hopping on some tren and dealing with the issue of without the lighting trickery he was just fat. If they’re going to tackle the more extreme characters then they for sure will come up with ways of getting around them and how the bed them in reality. Personally I’d love it if they went with a modified version of the Black Mask Assassins storyline like in Arkham Origins, where potentially Black Mask is introduced having a power struggle with the penguin after falcone’s killing, so to eliminate the risk of Batman taking them both down, hires 5 of the worlds greatest assassins to take down Batman

Since the city is flooded, imagine a victim of the flood that has a major skin disorder or something along that lines, hence killer croc. I'm so glad they actually used 'Something in the Way' in the film and not just for the trailer. The scene at the beginning where Batman and the Mayor's son look at each other and then the song comes in, honestly gives me chills. I've only read part of Batman Year One which was one of the source materials for this film, the other being The Long Halloween which I haven't read. But I am glad they decided to go down the gritty road of Batman digging into the corruption of Gotham and uncovering his own family's involvement in it as well. Overall, a solid Batman film and while I do agree with you that there's only so many times you can re-invent this character, I am genuinely looking forward to seeing where they go from here with this version.

As far as the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne goes, it's always been "unsolved" in terms that Bruce and the cops were never able to say with complete confidence who their killer was. Batman is sometimes able to find and confront the man who killed his parents, Joe Chill, but the reason is pretty much always the same: He wanted quick bucks and saw Marth's pearl necklace but she screamed and he shot twice out of fear. I prefer this as a reasoning for his parents murder rather than the "they had some bad ties" route. Not only is it much more tragic that it was completely random but it reinforces the need for Batman. What happen to him could happen to anyone, not just people involved with mob bosses. Great reactions though, my reactions to the bat mobile popping up was pretty much the same lmao.

Furthermore,i like the focus on Batman being a detective, not him being a hero. It gives me hope that if this batman meets up with superman and other being son that level they're not going to try and boost batman up to that level with all kinds of silly things and instead of us on him being a strategist, coordinator, and focusing in logistics.
The last thing I really liked about it was the fact that we got to see such a stark transition for his growth as batman. In the beginning, he's all about vengeance and punishment, but seeing the riddler thug say the same thing he does really changed his view. After that, you can see the emphasis he places on being the symbol of hope for people that good things can come from the darkest of nights. Seeing that girl not want to let him go at the end really choked me up.

Martha being an Arkham was fairly recent. Originally she was Martha Kane, after Bob Kane, who created Batman with often uncredited help from Bill Finger. It’s a really cool change and helps explain Bruce’s issues.

@@BaddMedicine Kane feeds into Hush and the whole bad Thomas Wayne thing. yes it was kind of a comic thing and there's a whole bad uncle etc.
IDK don't really feel batman has to be that complicated.

Giacchino did the music score.. they also use the Nirvana song "Something in the way" to set the mood which is a 2 chord song (an e minor to G/C progression). The main parts of the score are based solely around those 2 chords. The "Duuuum da da duuuuh" motif that we hear repeated is taken from the Nirvana song and expanded and orchestrated in different ways by the composer.

Falcone being Selina's father comes mostly from The Long Halloween/Dark Victory and has been part of some of the main continuities in the comics. I think still is in the current one but can't say it for sure.
Martha Wayne being an Arkham comes from the sort-of-elseworld series Batman: Earth One. In most of the main continuities she's actually a Kane (and aunt to Kate Kane, the current Batwoman). She having mental illness may referente her turning into The Joker in Flashpoint.
The Waynes are mostly good people in most continuities and adaptations. In some others like the Joker film they're show in a less sympathetic light. The only one that shows them as fully corrupt that I'm aware of is the Telltale Games version.
Finally, I know a lot of people would love to see Mr. Freeze in a sequel, but my preference would be Clayface. Imagine him not necessarily as the mud monster of comics and cartoons but perhaps as a killer with body horror elements that can take the form of any person. Absolute paranoia fuel and a real challenge for a detective.

    The beginning of the movie
    BATMAN: I'm vengeance.
    Fans: Fuck yes! How cool.
    The end of the movie
That follower of riddler: I'm vengeance.
Fans: You ruined it!! The whole feeling.

As someone who read the comics, unfortunately I was spoiled immediately when they mentioned the sea wall about 2 minutes in. The only other time it's brought up is in Batman Zero Year when The Riddler does that exact same thing, blowing it up to create a no man's land. Still was super intrigued on this interpretation of the story, the Batman, and loved the fights (I believe 87Eleven did them, the crew behind John Wick.)
Also, in the comics Martha is a Caine, not an Arkham. Doesn't bother me at all though because the Caine's were just an excuse to give Batman superhero cousins, and this world seems to be void of other heroes much like TDK trilogy.

If you guys remember in the Arkham game series Batman's cowl has a type of vision called a detective mode or detective vision, that allows him to see people through walls, read heartbeats, conditions, display skeletons and detect usable and useful objects in the environment. Plus it can be used to solve a crime similar but different from the CSIs when Batman sets up a crime scene and solves it.

Interesting bit I noticed - when Robert Pattinson was on Jimmy Kimmel promoting The Batman, he shared a brief out-of-context clip of Batman's escape from the Police Station. I saw a lot of people kind of criticizing Jeffrey Wright's acting as Gordon during *that* specific clip. He keeps SLOWLY moving his head around at weird angles, it almost comes across as intimate, and people weren't sure about it. When I watched the movie... Gordon really doesn't do that a whole lot. I wonder if he was moving his head like that to discreetly stretch any stiffness in his neck muscles out before Batman clocks him in the face and books it.
Also - I can't wait to see a lawyer react to the opening twenty minutes of this movie. It's so weird, but if you just look at everything involving Batman's interaction with the Juggalos at the beginning, I'm 90% the ass kicking they receive is legally protected. Batman didn't say anything. They didn't "not know who he was" (I call jim Gordon to the stand.... "Yeah, it' s been two years, I don't even know who he is, man.") every Drophead in the city practically shits themselves every time they even see THE BATSIGNAL. Yeah, it's Halloween Night, but Batman didn't say "TRICK OR TREAT" or "COME GET IT BITCHES" - all of the violence that occurs on that platform is technically self-defense. He didn't threaten anybody, he didn't hide from anybody, he didn't chase anybody. Everybody's civil rights on that platform are 100% intact, and all Batman would have to do is anonymously deliver all relevant footage recorded through his contact lens (with the HUD) to prove it.
He gave them PLENTY of time to shit their pants and run and they CHOSE not to. Especially the guy that had the gun - if anybody got hurt as a result of his shooting, it wasn't going to be Batman's fault, because he shot Batman first, and in response, Batman didn't run over and punch his nut-sack into tomorrow, he tazed the guy's spinal cord so that he'd INVOLUNTARILY CLEAR THE OTHER FIVE ROUNDS harmlessly.

I loved how this movie showed us a side of batman we hadn't seen before. in all the movies "batman" was a tough guy who doesn't care about anything in his way, he is just invincible and...
But in this movie he kept his normal personality even with the batman mast on. He had a lot of understandable emotions and doubts. he was still bruce wayne the kid who was hurt!

This is semi-canonical as the 2000’s run of Catwoman comics portrayed a Mr Kyle as a drunk who abandoned her after her mother’s death, but I believe these two concepts have been blended as him abandoning her since she wasn’t his.

I agree , as he’s year 2 he’s savage and more erratic which makes good cinema … so wonder if when he grows and evolves if it will just be regular Batman , which is a shame as I like the badass savage unreserved moments that this had , hope they keep it - like the scene where he’s beating that guy , make him more skilled and badass but keep him brutal and on verge of killing . But if he’s skilled I guess he will lose that wreckless feel .. mmmm
