Since Vince was talking about how he likes the direction, you two should check out the newest Planet of the Apes trilogy. All three are great, and Matt Reeves (the director of this) directs the last 2 of them. Plenty of great actors and really good stories.
This Batman is as dark, depressed and angry as many of those living in these dark, stressful times. Batman wants revenge, while the villain wants to expose government corruption. Thus, the normal superhero story formula is upended. Looking forward to the sequel in 2025
Riddler, of course, also wants revenge. But on a much wider, more deranged scale. This is what ties him to Batman, and causes Batman to rethink and regret his path of vengeance. It's such a powerful arc for Bruce. At the outset, he's in an almost aimless suicide mission as Batman, consumed by his rage...by the end, he's learned valuable lessons, and become a genuine hero.
I watched The Batman with very little information. The only actors I knew was in this was Pattinson and Zoe, and that's it. When my friend pointed out that Penguin was Colin Farrell I was like, "nah, you playin" 😂
As a longtime batfan this movie was exactly what I’d been wanting. Batman year 2. No origin story. No old Bruce. Young, dark and violent Batman. This was a good look at before he created the persona “Bruce Wayne.” And he makes the switch from vengeance to justice. Great movie can’t wait for the next one.
He doesn't know Bruce is Batman. When he meant "the real you" he was referring to Batman being somebody like himself who hates the elites and corrupt and will do anything to get rid of them. But once he learned that Batman was more about justice and doing what's right, rather than revenge, he turns on him. You can tell by the way he talks about Bruce Wayne when he's talking to Batman.
Yes, but they intentionally wanted the viewer to think he knew who batman was in that moment. It was a misdirect. It's one of the better scenes in the movie, I thought.
@@LordMesa you can tell that's what they intended. When the Riddler goes on to talking about about Bruce, the context is different in that Riddler is refering to Bruce as somebody else and isn't the one he's talking to. You can see a slight change in Batman's face when he realizes that Riddler doesn't know that Batman and Bruce are the same person.
Lines up pretty well with how old he was in Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, which was also early Batman. Rā's al Ghul burned Wayne Manor to the ground on Bruce's 30th birthday, the same night Batman saved Gotham from Crane's fear toxin.
32:30 The Cling Wrap is to prevent stray hairs from falling out, thus denying the police forensic evidence of who the perp was. Same principle as wearing gloves or taping heavy-duty trashbags over your shoes. 34:22 This whole sequence is probably the best visual representation of the duality of Batman...he's simultaneously the glimmer of hope in the darkness for the innocents trying to live in Gotham, and the monster in the shadows for the criminals. This is Year 2 Batman, where he's still full of rage and learning the ropes. He hasn't had the realization yet that just being feared as "vengeance" isn't enough, until the end of the movie that is, when he finally realizes what he needs to become to really have the intended impact on the city. That's also why we don't see much of him as Bruce Wayne throughout the movie: he hasn't developed that public persona yet, because he's been so obsessed with becoming the Batman. Matt Reeves knocked it out of the park with this movie, and I'm incredibly excited to see what he does with the sequel...I just hope it won't involve the Joker, as there are just too many good Batman villains that haven't been properly explored on the big screen to retread the Joker yet again (unless Matt combines the A Death In The Family and The Killing Joke storylines...then bring on the Joker)...give me a live-action Scarecrow, Firefly, Azrael, Victor Zsasz, Hugo Strange, the Court of Owls, Deathstroke, any of those done in a quasi-horror fashion like this Riddler was done would be freaking amazing!
Court of Owls would be perfect, would fit in quite nicely with the tone of this universe. Would be a great way for the hidden elite of Gotham to fight back against the forces that have risen up to fight the corruption in the city.
This movie excels in rewatches! Every shot Matt Reeves directed, every line the Actors say are carefully crafted and complex. When you listen to them; it doesn’t feel like dialogue, it feels natural! Like all these people exist and think and project their feelings in a completely natural way. Scenes that you previously saw, and thought that they were just padding for the movie, becomes nuanced and deep and important. I love the length, I could have this go on a full day with this much depth and be all the happier for it! I love the acting, I love the cast, I love the writing, I love the interpretation of the characters, I love the Batman!
It’s crazy because I remember telling myself how Robert Pattinson as batman wasn’t gonna be good but it surprised me. He’s my favorite batman and my favorite batman movie. The movie is a true detective story that we really haven’t seen in any of the previous batman movies. And for me Batman’s detective side is one of the most important parts of his character and they portrayed that perfectly here. The riddler was a great villain always being one step ahead of batman. The interrogation scene is one of my favorites because it shows how crazy the riddler is. This movie is a clear masterpiece that imo is 10x better than the dark knight and other batman movies
I don't know if he's "my favorite" but he was great and had his own way of doing it. He was awkward in his own skin, which spoke to his childhood trauma. Not so much "suave" like Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne. But suave Bruce Wayne works too.
I love that it was 3 hours long. I prefer series over movies, because of exactly that. They take their time. I wish more movies would get up to 4 hours even.
Yeah I don't agree with people who whine about the length. I want him in the sequel contending with like 2 psychos and a main villain. Have detective Batman chasing down Pyg or Zsaz, have someone like Clayface to keep his attention and Mr. Freeze as the main villain. Maybe Freezes tech helps him with Clayface. I just really hope we continue the detective trope. It's one of my favorite aspects of the comics
The film Vince was talking about at 25:48 gun fight was: Equilibrium with Chrstial Bale. Pitch Black scenes with muzzle flash only illuminating the fight. Truly underated film. I love that this film is more Film Noir than a superhero film. Way the music and shots complete shots with Batman, especially the scene where Penguin watches from tumbled car how Batman gets closer... its amazing scene.
Interesting, I'll have to watch that The one it made me think about was Black Panther with the first scene T'Challa fights in, though I don't remember if it was entirely pitch black the whole fight That's just what it reminded me of
So don’t know if you guys picked up on it, but throughout the movie they kept mentioning and even showing that this is YEAR 2 Bruce aka Vengeance..which is why he said in the beginning that he’s “VENGEANCE”. He’s still unhinged and still inexperienced. He’s still figuring things out and quite reckless. He doesn’t care much about his image as BRUCE WAYNE and he only is active at night fighting crime. Which is why he had to grow throughout the movie and realized a lot of things. Thus him slowly making his two identities BRUCE WAYNE and BATMAN. That will set up everything in the next movie and I’m sure everything from his weapons, Batmobile, and suit will be upgraded. Of course there will be conflicts as well as another development of his character and hero. The director is MATT REEVES and his intention about Gotham and the movie is very noir, gloomy, detective, with a bit of horror, and psychological aspects too.
On your Robin comment, this is Batman when he’s on his second year, he’s still fairly young and Robin isn’t even in the equation yet, but the next film will most likely explore it or give some hints to his first appearance, most likely with time skips and such
I actually thought the acting was great. The casting was top-tier imo. I thought Robert Pattinson did fantastic as Batman (up there with Keaton and Bale imo), and I like that his Batman voice isn’t too over the top (wasn’t a fan of that with Bale’s, but he still killed it as Batman/Bruce Wayne). People worry about what his Bruce Wayne would be like, but we’ll get to see the Bruce Wayne we know in the sequels as Matt Reeves wanted to develop these characters. But hey. To each their own.
He was great as Batman. But batman doesn't really act. He is a brilliant actor, so i am not criticizing his talent. But I think he misunderstood who Bruce wayne is supposed to be when not behind closed doors. Bruce shouldn't seem like a depressed 20 year old who hates the world. He seems so emo.
100% agree. The Dark Knight is a great Nolan film but it striped away alot of the visual tone and style of Gotham and Batman that it loses alot of the personality of Batman and Gotham. While Batman Begins has all of these elements alongside Nolan's directing and writers feeling much closer to a Batman film. Batman Returns is the same people say it's a great Tim Burton film but Batman 89 is a better Batman film. As Burtons style suits Batman and Gotham much more than Nolan people have no problem with that but just the strangeness and over the top creepy nature of the film not to mention the focus on the side characters who are much more strange and wacky is where the Burton feel comes from.
@@Vaultboy307Except Batman Begins had zero Batman being the "worlds greatest detective." That's a criticism he actually listened to and fixed in TDK, but unfortunately it was only a couple scenes. The Batman really focused on detective work which is nice. Nolans films made Batman seem like a brute with gadgets doing most of the work.
I love how he learns that he has to be more than a symbol of vengeance. He needs to be a symbol of hope. The guy he saves on the train platform at the beginning is as afraid of Batman as the thugs even after Batman saves him, but at the end, the woman he carries out on the roof doesn't want to let him go.
The film was directed by Matt Reeves. Standouts on his resume are the Planet of the Apes prequels that came out in the 2010s and a found footage monster film called Cloverfield
The movie has atmosphere. Rain slick streets, neon lights, deep shadows. All elements in noir filmmaking. That was something that was missing from the Nolan trilogy. I also like tgat Gotham looks more gothic instead of trying to pass off New York or Chicago as Gotham.
Great reaction you two! 😊 This is one of my favorite Batman movies along with Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy. And Robert Pattinson is one of my favorite actors who portrays Batman along with Christian Bale and Michael Keaton. The whole cast is fantastic: Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell(who I didn't recognize in the trailer due to the great make-up). Matt Reeves did a great job directing this film. And I'm already looking forward to the sequel. Hopefully we get to see a little bit more of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in it. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
It's good that you mentioned the cast, considering a third of this reaction is just them trying to remember or recognize the actors in the movie. The other two thirds is them eating and making bad guesses about what is going on in the movie. How is this a good reaction? Recently these two have been some of my favorite reactors, but let's not over-egg the pudding.
@@adamdavies4480 Great reply, mate. Really adds to the conversation. "Why you mad?" can be used to literally any scenario and it has the same effects to dismiss an argument as it had here, none.
This Batman has only been Batman-ing for 2 years. He doesn't have a Bruce Wayne persona, right now he's just Vengeance, he becomes Batman towards the end of the film.
I'm so happy you guys are finally checking this one out. Here's something interesting that I noticed about this movie. I could absolutely be wrong about this, but I am PRETTY SURE that Batman didn't break a single law during the first fight scene on the elevated railway platform. From the moment you hear his first footstep, all the way to "Please don't hurt me!" He doesn't commit a single crime, and this would absolutely hold up in court. It's October 31st. Batman says it in the voice-over, we see the Mayor's son take off for trick-or-treating, everybody's wearing costumes, there's a bunch of dudes wearing clown make up, and they stood there and watched. A guy in another costume loudly announces his presence, but doesn't say a word. He didn't make any threats, he didn't run anybody down, he didn't hide and start taking them out one-by-one without being seen, nobody got stabbed by a sudden batarang. The gang leader verbally confirms, "What the hell are you supposed to be?" which is something you say to somebody wearing a Halloween costume you might not recognize. The gang leader clearly doesn't recognize him as BATMAN, but assumes that it's some random guy in a Halloween costume. He pulls out the machete.... there's no response. As soon as he raises it over his head, it's self-defense, and Batman immediately hands him his own ass. Batman didn't assault this guy, but if he complained about that, he'd be admitting an intent to straight up murder a guy. He says, "I'm vengeance." and everybody else goes, "Oh, shit. That's HIM." They didn't say, "Let's get the fuck out of here before he kills us." They immediately surround him and respond with physical violence. Then, that guy pulls out a gun - which scares the "half-face" kid and his screaming catches Batman's attention and he turned around just in time to get shot in the shoulder at point blank range. The second shot grazes another gangster. Without any hesitation, Batman grabs the gun hand, points it in the air, activates a taser in his glove, and VERY CAREFULLY shocks the guy's vertebrae which causes his hand to convulse and involuntarily discharge the other five rounds into the ceiling, harmlessly. That's when everybody realizes that he isn't stopping anybody from running away. Even if all fifteen of them swore in court that he came out of nowhere and just started beating the fuck out of everybody... the guy's wearing a BODYCAM. He could send the actual footage of the encounter to the police ANONYMOUSLY and never have to even worry about the slander. No crime was committed.
This is my fav Batman film thus far. Love the noir detective theme, cast, basicially the entire production. All the things you two didn't care for I loved, and it didn't drag for me. Nolan's Batman films never did it for me. I realized some years ago that Nolan's work just isn't my cup of tea. Oppenheimer is the first of his films that has me wanting to see it on the big screen. Thanks for sitting through it.
Did you guys catch the part in the Riddler's monologue in Arkham after his speech about Bruce Wayne being an orphan when he says "he's the only one we didn't get"? Some people miss that part but it means Riddler doesnt know Batman is Bruce Wayne. He thought they were working together so he wouldnt want to kill Batman when he tried to kill Bruce Wayne and he also wouldnt "work" with Batman if he knew he was Bruce. If you listen to his speech about Bruce again when knowing this it changes how you look at the way hes talking. He thinks Batman thinks the same way he does about Bruce Wayne and hes basically saying "of course the orphan who never had to actually struggle like me is the one who survived right?"
This is my favorite live action Batman film. From the score, production design, the ensemble cast, the cinematography, etc. This felt like I was watching the animated series or even playing the Arkham games. For Matt Reeves' next films, I don't want to see the Joker AT all because he's been run into the ground. Btw Jeffrey Wright did play in Cadillac Records. And the Nolan films were good for the time being but they haven't aged that well in my opinion. I mean their good movies but they aren't good Batman movies. More people talk about the villains than Bruce/Batman himself.
Personally, TDK is still my favorite Batman movie overall. Pattinson is definitely my favorite live action Batman, but the story in TDK is just so great I can’t put TB past it.
Pattinson actually did a really good job at portraying this stage of Batman. This storyline skips the origin we've seen over and over, and gives us a young Batman thats just into his second year of being Batman. Hes still broken, still trying to figure out what the mantle of Batman means to him, and he doesnt see his public face as Bruce Wayne as being valuable at all. Its why we see a fantastic Batman, and a blah Bruce Wayne. If they end up making sequels in this storyline, we'll start to see him play up his playboy billionaire side. But right now, hes just consumed by anger and grief.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but here's a fun fact about both this movie as well as The Dark Knight: The D.A., who is played by Peter Sarsgaard, is married in real life to Maggie Gyllenhaal, who played Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. So both Sarsgaard and Gyllenhaal played a character who died from a bomb explosion in a Batman movie. Paul Dano, who played The Riddler, was also in two other really good movies that I would recommend for you guys to watch: Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood. Matt Reeves directed this one. He has done some great movies before this one: he directed Cloverfield, Let Me In (which is an English-language remake of Let the Right One In, which is all about a young girl who is a vampire). He also directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.
the bat and the cat always have a curiosity for each other but typically dont end up together. Talia al ghul is the bearer of Bruce's son in the comics, Peter does have his own cat too with Felicia Hardy black cat!. Stan Lee has stated that Gwen is Peters true love MJ was just meant to be the childhood crush.
Batman's Main Love Interests are Catwoman (Be his biggest love interest because of their secret lifestyles) Batgirl Wonder Woman Talia Al Ghul (He actually has a kid with her) Vickie Vale But he's had romantic encounters with tons of women like Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, even Lois Lane (Superman's girl)
Watched this masterpiece in the cinemas.. I will never forget the experience. I think that is the realist batman we ever got.. I remember someone say: "If batman was real he would be insane" which is absolutely true.. The stress and all for a human being. Remember that this batman is very young.. There is no Bruce in this movie.. It's just batman.. He has to learn how to be that charismatic rich guy.
This is by far the best adaptation of the tone of the comics. Absolutely love the characterization of Batman, the Riddler, the Penguin, etc. The city itself is perfect. The tone of it all.
I knew I was in for an amazing film when the first trailer dropped during DC Fandome, and I was right. Matt Reeves crafted a new Batman that was constantly surprising, different, and riveting throughout. It is a bit of a slow burn at first, but it really picks up later on. The length was fine for me, the whole cast was excellent (especially Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz), action scenes are awesome, and it looks gorgeous from top to bottom. Can't wait for The Batman Part II in October 2025.
And the actor who plays Falcone, he's Jesus, the perverted bowler in The Big Lebowski with long hair and purple outfit. I was seriously expecting to taunt Bats by licking a bowling ball!
This is as close to the "street level" (as opposed to the Justice League level Batman who fights alongside and against literal Gods) comic book Batman as has been done in live action so far. The Nolan trilogy were GREAT Batman movies, but The Batman feels more like the comic books coming to life. I liked the Snyderverse and it's a shame the studios screwed up Zack's vision... but Batman stories always work best when he's fighting non super powered criminals in Gotham City.
In this iteration, Bruce is just in his 2nd year of being Batman to the degree of completely shutting off all social life--his "playboy" persona hasn't developed yet. At this point, Bruce is absolutely obsessed with ONLY being Batman.
Fun bit of trivia--the actor playing the Mayor played a vampire in the series THE STRAIN. And I really appreciate how consistent and nuanced all the characters are. For example, Selina is excellent at making quick decisions--but I don't think she's ever killed someone before, hence she missed when pulling the trigger for the first time (pushing that guy off the building was a way of distracting Batman and Gordon, since she knew they would save him). And yeah, Selina Kyle is Catwoman's real name. Just as Penguin's real name is Oswald, hence in this version he prefers to be called "Oz." Well, wouldn't you? And yes, Batman always has a thing for Catwoman. I for one am baffled by your comments on the acting. It sounds, frankly, as if you are complaining because they played the roles in ways that weren't what you expected. Not what they actually did.
Zoe in catwoman uuuuugwhshhs the soundtrack is DOPE- cinematography is I N S A N E you can feel Gotham to the smell. Period. 10/10 scenario is mind blowing that’s how you use comics accurate and crazy new story. Every actors A T E period. Literally one of my favorite movie. YO-😭😭 I watched that movies 10 times and never recognize Alfred was the villain in BP 👹👹👹🫠🫠🫠🫠 that just show how different he was like you said.
This IS the best Batman movie. Matt Reeves, despite knowing it would extend the film length, did a great job avoiding excessive exposition; letting each scene tell it's part of the story. Also, the subtlety of the growth and maturation Bruce Wayne undergoes, and his awareness of the impact The Batman has on Gotham, was masterfully done.
I thought the Riddler was phenomenal tbh. And I actually really liked this take on Commissioner Gordon. Is a little long but I’d rather it feels a little stretched out than ending abruptly
This movie did the best portrayal of the Batman as "the world's greatest detective", which is really how Batman started out; DC meant "Detective Comics", which is why he never had superpowers, per se. Just really smart, having great tech from his wealth (another common theme from all the old comics), and expert at reading villains, even when they aren't so obsessed with impressing him that they leave clues for him. Going from three steps behind to three steps ahead is the true Batman story. In this, his early course of "vengeance", leaning heavily on using fear against those living in that darkness, but learning that he was leading too much by that example, to realizing that he could much more good leading by hope. He would still be there in the dark, scaring bad guys, but now also giving hope to people that he was also there in the dark to save the day. And that helping the good people was always what he was meant to do. Like Christian Bale's Dark Knight, he would do what the police and other good guys can't, while still leaving justice to the system (like when he was bringing in Falcone).
At the 3:40 mark, the young man thay had HALF of his face painted is played by Jay Lycurgo . WHO ALSO PLAYED TIM DRAKE aka ROBIN in the TITANS series on HBO MAX!!!
So this is Batman Year 2, that's why nobody really knows about him and think it's weird he's dressed up like that. If you see his journal, it even says he's been doing it for 2 years. But this is such a great movie, can't for the sequel in 2025 😍
The third act of this film definitely drags a little, it could’ve been 20-30 mins shorter. However with how good it was I can’t really complain too much. Can’t wait to see the next one!
Something I haven’t seen anyone else point out is that The Batman’s Bruce Wayne sees no point in a dual identity. He views anything else besides being Batman as pointless, which is why he doesn’t have the charisma that The Dark Knight Trilogy’s Bruce Wayne had. The events of this movie force Bruce to realize that he can’t help Gotham by spreading fear and punishing criminals. He has to embody hope, not just vengeance. I imagine this will lead to him doing more as Bruce Wayne, not just as Batman, in the sequel.
BTW, those twin bodyguards that work for Penguin are The Trigger Twins. They're very popular in the comics & had an homage paid to them in the Arrowverse's Elseworlds special
I found it very funny that the news played the video of the commissioner (basically) getting his insides eaten by rats and the audio of Carmine murdering Anika, really weird news company they got over in Gotham
Great actors in this cast who perfectly played their roles, can’t wait for the spin off shows like “The Penguin” which is scheduled to release next year and the sequels…“The Batman: Part II” is scheduled to release in October 2025
Batman is always a Dark Character Batman is like a Urban Legend for the People Many people think Batman is not real and also many people believe Batman is a monster/ creature that hunts at night . And Batman use that as his main element - The Fear . And this Batman is still young he is yet to be the proper Batman.
I think the movie you're thinking of where the scene was completely black illuminated only by gunfire is Equilibrium, which coincidentally stars another Batman, Christian Bale.
That first scene with Gordon and the Police with the Mayor's body... that's why I could never be a cop. That forensics guy comes up, 'He got hit a lot of times... and hard." And I'd IMMEDIATELY be an asshole about it, "What? He couldn't have hit him that hard, it's not like he's dead... Oh, wait... Yeah, I guess 'Hard' fits, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things."
This is during his first couple of years as Batman while he's still angry and out for revenge. He also hasn't fully developed his separate 'Bruce Wayne Philanthropist" persona yet so his anger and animosity is still there so there's no real separation between the two except for the suit. It's also great how at the end he that pivotal moment where he realises being 'Vengeance' makes him no different than many of the criminals and if he really wants to make a difference he needs to be more than just out for revenge and punishment. I was so sceptical but in the end Pattinson turned out what may be my favourite Batman and definitely the best 'Worlds Greatest Detective' version of Batman the way they leaned heavily into the clues and investigation side.
The Batman starred in The Lighthouse with Green Goblin Robert Pattinson went from a vampire to a bat. Zoe Kravitz played both Selina Kyle and Mary Jane Watson Andy Serkis went from playing Smeagol/Gollum to King Kong (2005), Cesar of the Apes, Ulysses Klaw of Black Panther (which also features a Gorilla tribe), and now Alfred Colin Ferrell plays the Penguin, but also played Bullseye in Daredevil (2003), also starring Ben Affleck, who's the Batman of the DCEU (and Jennifer Garner, who is reprising her role as Elektra in Deadpool 3) Jeffrey Wright plays Gordon after playing the friend and partner to another iconic character, James Bond Andy Serkis and Zoe Kravitz are both Marvel veterans (Black Panther, X-Men: First Class, & Into the Spider-Verse) Batman & Spider-Man both have a Black love interest in their films Pattinson is the only Batman (besides Keaton) that seems destined to go up against Dracula at some point
The same pitch black fire scene was from The Dark Knight...where Batman goes to the tunnel in search of Bane. I think you guys didn't get it when the Riddler thug said "I'm vengeance."
I very much prefer this film over TDK (Prefer Batman Begins to Dark Knight for many of the same reasons) simply for the fact that this film nailed the tone and visual style of a Batman film. Gotham looks like Gotham City instead of Chicago and New York. It's Gothic, Dark, Gritty, and unique in it's design alot Gothic Revival architecture mixed with some Art Deco and modern tech covering older buildings such as the monitor screens in central Gotham. It looks like the city has history while in TDK and TDKR Gotham just looked like Chicago and later New York. It lost all it's personality from Batman Begins and the films suffered visually for it. We finally get to see Batman doing some detective work maybe not to the level I wanted but I was happy with it. Now is it amazing, no not really it's a great film but does suffer many problems but that's fine for a first film in a trilogy. I can't wait to see where the sequels head and to see this Batman grow both as Bruce Wayne and as Batman. Mask of the Phantasm is still my personal favourite Batman film followed by Batman Returns and Batman Begin. Mask of the Phantasm is just peak Batman its Kevin Conroy the definitive Batman with writers Bruce Timm and Paul Paul Dini who all wrote the DC Animated shows. Give these guys a live action Batman film and we'll have the best Batman film that was ever made. *My Enjoyment and personal taste:* 1. Mask of the Phantasm 2. Lego Batman Movie 3. Batman Returns 4. Batman Begins 5. The Batman 6. The Dark Knight 7. Batman 89 8. Batman Forever 9. Dark Knight Rises 10. Batman vs Superman 11. Batman & Robin
I watched “The Batman” at the theater and I loved it😁🔥. The Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy is great and fantastic in its own way and no one will ever touch that masterpiece but this movie impressed me and I was amazed to see how good it was as it exceeded my expectations👍. I loved the feel to this film and the background it had which was dark, gloomy, rainy and serious, Gotham City was shown so differently compared to Dark Knight and it was so well done. Robert Pattison was great as Bruce Wayne aka Batman, Colin Farrell was unrecognizable and brilliant as The Penguin, John Turturo was really good as Falcone, Zoe Kravitz was amazing as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman and Paul Dano was fantastic as the antagonist “The Riddler”👏👏. I loved the car chase scene with Penguin and the action sequences. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care and have a good one❤️
I am pretty sure the pitch black hallway gunfire scene you are thinking of is from The Dark Knight Rises. When Catwoman is leading Batman into the tunnels there is a short clip during their infiltration where there is almost the same scene with Batman dispatching opponents as you see him getting closer to camera with each muzzle flash.
His hero name is Vengeance. He's not currently known as Batman, just referenced as the bat man. In the next film, he might take on the proper Batman name!
His name isnt vengeance, that's just what he represents to people do injustice. That's his hero arc in the movie, to learn not to just scare and attack villains but also be someone to look up to He's still learning who he is, the line "I'm vengeance" is part of his famous line from the animated show: "I am the night, I am vengeance, I am Batman"
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 Because, except for in a few comics showing glimpses of his younger crime fighting days, he's never not been known as Batman. Even "the" Dark Knight is just like "the" bat man. So when people kept hearing Vengeance in this movie, they thought it was a nickname, "the" vengeant guy.
The original BATMAN story is very close to this movie. Batman was more of a detective, calmly figuring things out and getting down only when he had to.
The whole artstyle and mood is 100% batman. And i LOVE hes actually a detective in this. At first when he stared at everything for so long, silently, absolutely still, i thought "Oh man Pattinson... thats too edge bro, please dont" and then when its revealed he has recording lenses... i felt like an assumptious asshole xD
in the comics batman has catwoman and talia al ghul as love interests but talia is a bit of a rocky one cause she drugs him and has sex with him to secretly get pregnant and have bruce's kid, damian wayne who they kept secret from bruce till he was like 12 and she raised damian to be an assassin and then left him with bruce and disappeared which is when bruce makes damian robin and trains him to not kill people and fight for good rather than just killing people. also this batman is 1yr in and the film is directed by matt reeves and they already shot a penguin spin off show and in process of writing a sequel

Same 2025 will be one of the greatest years right behind the new joker movie
I'm still blown away by the prosthetic work done on Colin Farrell to make him The Penguin. Darn incredible.
I hope his solo show is gonna be good.
can't wait for his spinoff
I watched The Batman with very little information. The only actors I knew was in this was Pattinson and Zoe, and that's it. When my friend pointed out that Penguin was Colin Farrell I was like, "nah, you playin" 😂
Colin Farrell WAS THE PENGUIN!!!! ....HE ABSOLUTELY MURDERED THE ROLE!!!... CAN'T WAIT FOR HIS NEW SERIES TO COME OUT!!!!
IKR I didn't even recognize him at all. He looked completely different and like a totally different person
Same. I also loved this movie as it portrayed more of a detective movie which the other Batman movies missed
So question is this the second year he's been Batman??
@@randallcolombo4630Yes

@@randallcolombo4630in the opening monologue he says, "two years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal."
People overlook this detail a lot. Thanks for noticing!
@@3twelve206People are stupid, unfortunately.
@@chiiv999wht
Lines up pretty well with how old he was in Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, which was also early Batman. Rā's al Ghul burned Wayne Manor to the ground on Bruce's 30th birthday, the same night Batman saved Gotham from Crane's fear toxin.
The acting and the cast is phenomenal, legendary actors…and Pattinson give the best and most badass performance as Batman so far
Yeah I'm very surprised they didn't like it.
“You could’ve pulled that punch man” “I did”
Such an underrated little part
Def favorite! No contest!
I agree that this movie was great but I would disagree about it being 10x better than dark knight
This is also my fav Batman movie too!
@@Paradoxx867dark knight better ngl
I love that it was 3 hours long. I prefer series over movies, because of exactly that. They take their time. I wish more movies would get up to 4 hours even.
Yeah I don't agree with people who whine about the length. I want him in the sequel contending with like 2 psychos and a main villain. Have detective Batman chasing down Pyg or Zsaz, have someone like Clayface to keep his attention and Mr. Freeze as the main villain. Maybe Freezes tech helps him with Clayface. I just really hope we continue the detective trope. It's one of my favorite aspects of the comics
A film should always be as long as it takes to effectively tell the story. I would sit through a 5 hour Batman film if it told a great story.

Interesting, I'll have to watch that
The one it made me think about was Black Panther with the first scene T'Challa fights in, though I don't remember if it was entirely pitch black the whole fight
That's just what it reminded me of
I was thinking pitch black but equilibrium was complete darkness in opening fight if im correct?
Love that film.
@@Imyerda - Yes.
She was too busy saying "right" every 10 seconds of the video.
On your Robin comment, this is Batman when he’s on his second year, he’s still fairly young and Robin isn’t even in the equation yet, but the next film will most likely explore it or give some hints to his first appearance, most likely with time skips and such
Its probably the closest to 'noir' style films that you two have seen oj this channel so far. Slow, grim, dark very well shot
4:32 Yes, that *is* Jeffrey Wright 👍🏾😂💯
That reaction at the "Lies still" riddle was pricelss. That was a "BARS" face if ive ever seen one. 4:57
Everyone was great except for Zoe Kravitz. She got one good film now she acts like gods gift to acting.
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaiseWhy? Did she do anything weird? From her interviews with Robert Pattinson she seems to be pretty chill as a person
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise I disagree. I think she did good as catwoman tbh
@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise She acted fine for the scenes she was in. What would you have done differently?
I've always said "The Dark Knight" is a better film but "Batman Begins" is a better Batman film.
The Batman is a better batman film than both
Bahahaha !!! Hell No. 😆🤣
@@imbatmanlolThe Batman is mid compared to The Dark Knight kid.
This is around year two of him being batman so with that said he's more brutal, detached and way more ruthless than his 4th or 5th year.
This is one of my favorite Batman movies along with Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy.

Aside from the latest Dune, this movie has by far my favorite score, it's like its own character!
Personally, TDK is still my favorite Batman movie overall. Pattinson is definitely my favorite live action Batman, but the story in TDK is just so great I can’t put TB past it.
@alexthrailkill Aside from the Joker, it's just okay to me.
@@alexthrailkilleh, The Dark Knight is a better movie but The Batman is a better Batman movie
Thiss. I was geeking out while watching this in theatres because it felt JUST like I was playing an Arkham game
In this flim they make it clear that Batman is someone you should fear.
Batman's Main Love Interests are
Catwoman (Be his biggest love interest because of their secret lifestyles)
Batgirl
Wonder Woman
Talia Al Ghul (He actually has a kid with her)
Vickie Vale
But he's had romantic encounters with tons of women like Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, even Lois Lane (Superman's girl)
This is the most accurate batman cause he is regarded as one of the best Detectives
This was a Batman comic brought to life. That's why it was so good.
But in the end, *sunglasses* he struck out
This is as close to the "street level" (as opposed to the Justice League level Batman who fights alongside and against literal Gods) comic book Batman as has been done in live action so far.

Matt Reeves directed this movie. He also directed Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes(2014) & War For The Planet Of The Apes(2017).
Pattinson looks more like a vampire in this movie than he did in Twilight.
People named Coulson die in both Marvel and DC movies.
I thought the Riddler was phenomenal tbh. And I actually really liked this take on Commissioner Gordon. Is a little long but I’d rather it feels a little stretched out than ending abruptly
It's mentioned early on (while y'all we're chatting and not listening) that this is Bruce's 2nd Year of being Batman.
I’m sorry but Riddler yelling in his cell is fucking hilarious
The most realistic batman. If batman was real.. it would be more like this one.
fun fact that very first fight scene when he hit the guy 2 extra times on the ground was impervised and he was actually supposed to say Im batman.
Batman Begins is my favorite out of the trilogy as well.
At the 3:40 mark, the young man thay had HALF of his face painted is played by Jay Lycurgo . WHO ALSO PLAYED TIM DRAKE aka ROBIN in the TITANS series on HBO MAX!!!
Zoe Kravitz is Catwoman. The same woman play as Mary Jane Waston in Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse & Angel in X-Men First Class.

Ya should watch The Penguin series it takes part a week later from this movie and will lead to the batman 2
The scene of the gunfire showing Batman in different frames was Dark Knight Rises when Batman attacks Banes hideout.
*My Enjoyment and personal taste:*
1. Mask of the Phantasm
2. Lego Batman Movie
3. Batman Returns
4. Batman Begins
5. The Batman
6. The Dark Knight
7. Batman 89
8. Batman Forever
9. Dark Knight Rises
10. Batman vs Superman
God Colin Ferrell is so good in this movie as Penguin. He somehow acts both the most realistic yet the most like a comic book character.
His hero name is Vengeance. He's not currently known as Batman, just referenced as the bat man. In the next film, he might take on the proper Batman name!
Exactly.
I've no idea why that's so difficult to understand?
He's called the Night in the second film and then finally Batman in the third all coming together as "I AM VENGEANCE! I AM THE NIGHT! I AM BATMAN!"
His name isnt vengeance, that's just what he represents to people do injustice. That's his hero arc in the movie, to learn not to just scare and attack villains but also be someone to look up to
He's still learning who he is, the line "I'm vengeance" is part of his famous line from the animated show: "I am the night, I am vengeance, I am Batman"
They wore cling wrap so they wouldn’t be identified. Hair, sweat and etc can fall off. So cling wrap ensures they don’t leave anything behind
FUN FACT: THIS MOVIE WAS FILMED IN CHICAGO
100 agree on the after review. Phenomenal in every way except uncessary length.
The original BATMAN story is very close to this movie. Batman was more of a detective, calmly figuring things out and getting down only when he had to.
The Batman 2 Villains
1- Clayface
2- Pingouin
3- Catwoman
4- Joker
5- Two Face
Best movie intro ever

The hall/ house is about 7 miles from where I live in Liverpool, England.
27:25 me too, brother.
This Batman is supposed to be in "Year Two" of his crimefighting career. So yes, fairly new, still figuring it out
