Drove around in my 1995 e34 today. It didn't break down or catch on fire. It was a good day.
The e39 is a realy reliable car . Powerfull, elegant and again REALIABLE! . You can´t say it of the e 60. E39 rules.
I still have my 1999 E39, worked on it for a year and got it nearly up to mint condition , been flawless for 3 years now. Not considering any other car in any near future
I've worked on and driven both. Power of the valvetronic engine in e60 is awesome. E39 to me looks far better. Id describe it as timeless. I'd also say the e39 is longer lasting, more reliable overall and build quality feels a lot better than the e60.

I had a manual e39 wagon for a while and recently upgraded to e60 manual sedan. While e39 was a little simpler to work on, m54 engines don't make a ton of power. With n52 engine BMW addressed a lot of issues around lack of low end torque and cooling system and CCV issues. I loved my e39 wagon but I think e60 is a much nicer, comfier and more powerful car. I just wish it looked a little more like the other BMWs
Dude, I still get compliments about my E60. I couldn't believe it, some guy was walking his dog down the road the other day, and told me my car was beautiful. I laughed, and told him it was a 2006. He was shocked. I guess he doesn't know anything about BMWs. But still, the e60 was way ahead of its time.
Anyway I wish you were mechanic over here in New York cuz I would definitely hire you to do a lot of work on my. The DYI's are a pain in the ass. I work a lot. I don't have time and bringing this car to BMW at 180,000. It's just not worth 160 an hour. Anyway, thanks for the video bro. I love you videos! Have a good one.

I don’t think the e60 is that bad , luckily i have a 6 speed 2004 530i e60 that has a m54 engine its pretty reliable for me

Hi Nathan i wanna buy an e61 530d. Yesterday i made a testdrive and it was Wonderfull! Chipped to 280hp and everything is changed on the motor! Drive for 10 years only e39 530d. Once i had an e39 525d.

We have an e39 528i 5spd, its beatup but keeps on ticking. Wish it were a 530i 6spd though, lol.😁
e60 is alot of work, but very much worth it. My 06 530i has 190k on the dash

I'm interested in learning about bmw (hoping to get one one day). By this video, when it comes to looks I keep hearing one is "dated." Does dated mean much better looking? Because the dated one looks better to me.
Comparison of what??? The E39 was a BMW's triumph as was the E38...the e60 was the beginning of the fall. Every BMW enthusiast knows that.

Come on guys you all know the e60 is more modern e39 is very old dated I have had both m sport 530d and I sold my low mileage Aegean edition e39 m sport to go back to e60 its to old man car but both of these if there not m sport look ugly anyway e39 is solid yes I agree but interior and looks to old fashioned as I told Nathan that’s why he done this video so he can see what I was saying the e39 is very very dated and now he sees that

Put two fully M specced facelift E60 and E39 beside each other. The E39 and E60 will look just as old. But the E39 will be better looking IMO.
The E60 looks more feminine and elegant.
The E39 looks more masculine and aggressive.
Gotta say one thing though, the high pitched sound of the V10 in the E60 M5 fits that feminine look very well. A V10 would sound very wierd in the aggressive looking E39. On the other hand a masculine and raw sounding V8 in the E60 just sounds wierd.

ive got a e39 540i/6 and a e60 550i, i love them both. Ive had three M62/tu cars and the 550i is my first N62tu car. Bought it with 200k miles but two owners and a full service history. no dash lights. had a alt gasket leak, but its currently getting fixed right now. These cars are both amazing, but the e60 is my daily. Its more comfy, a little faster, and nicer all around place to be. The e39 is my fun car. Rips through the gears and spins the tires like nothing, i can throw it into a turn hard as hell with no backtalk from the car or tires. The e60 is throwable but it really feels a lot bigger and heavier. Both great vehicles. E39 better for fun, E60 better for comfort

Well I like the older e39 better. It just has character the the e60 doesn’t. There’s something authentic about it inside and out. I understand why you’d like the e60 though. It doesn’t say old school - if you care for that sort of cred.
Hi Nathan, did you had the experience with a diesel engine in e39 or e60? I have a M57D30 in my e39 pulls like a dream... Would nice to know your opinion on the diesel engines too!
I don't think Nathan will help you with your enquiry. Diesel E39's were not available in US/Canada. (However) Maybe I can help! They're great. Speaking of owning a slow but relentless M57D25 in my E39 Touring.

I have a 97 528 Touring MT. Stunning colour (Calypso Red). Style 32's, Fully loaded, Navi, DSP, Phone, Double Glazing to name a few. Absolute superb car. The high point of BMW's era amongst the E38. I've driven an 05 E60 535d, quick car. I can't say I'm taken with the styling. The E39 however, is perfect!

love my e39, but can't fix trifecta brake/dsc/speed sensor/brakeComputer issue. computer rebuild + 4 sensors didn't fix it. need new suspension. 150k....and another 100k to go. baby blue, baby !

E39 still has plastic coolant lines, if you want true reliability it would have to be an e34
Bimmerworld has the newer all metal coolant lines. And they're not expensive

Why is there no fan & shroud?
Trust me. Here in the city, our emissions test is OBD 2 scan only. If those catless headers don't cause an engine code to throw, we're golden, just sayin. We want the catless headers!

Miss my 2008 528xi Silver with tinted windows, not the prettiest car but definitely the luxury and comfort was worth all the maintenance
I think that the main reason why so many people prefer e39 is simply design. It really looks great. E60 on other hand, well isnt that attractive.

I owned an e39 for 3 years, done 60k miles in it with very little go wrong, without doubt the best car I’ve owned, the way it drives, sounds and looks, brilliant car. Sadly in now have a Lexus ct200! I know! Please don’t say anything. Still watch your channel though Nathan, good stuff, keep it up.

I also vote for the looks on the E39. It's classic. The E60 and the F10 look like clown cars in comparison. Whatever happened to the designers at BMW around 2001 or so wasn't good. 7 series went from E38 classic beauty to clown car, too.

Yes , I need to get the exhaust welded up or swap it back up to the factory manifolds, and it needs to be cleaned on the inside, its not to dirty I just like to remove the seats and 100% clean them but the car is really nice now mechanically in and out @@Henry4PC
E39 is so much better looking than the E60.
Yeah bring out an E60 sport model and we will see how many E39 guys still think it looks better. Without the M sport body the E60 looks like shit.

not saying I am in anyway the king of bmw , but since you are being an ass about it the e34 didn't exactly go down in the history books as a great car, they had transmission issues and the m20 was kind of garbage with that distributor , and not to mention the interiors were garbage , I have had all these cars through the years and take it from me the newer the bmw's the easier they are to fix , but they cost more to fix so take it as you like but those are the facts @@Transportador33
Luckily I have a `03, 530D sport touring, individual paint and interior and fully loaded ! Least I can change parts such as the battery without needing a dealer to tell the car I put a new part on, THIS SAVES MONEY.
So how's the reliability on the 530D? I'm planning to buy one.

Reliability has been good and no more expensive than my previous Toyota Camry and alot more fun ! Firm suspension eats brake bulbs but just replace with LED bulbs. Had a rear airbage fail, standard on UK estate cars, but it was easy and cheap to fix.
ABS module failed, cooked by turbo heat below, new part from specialist BMW supplier was £600 cheaper than dealer, DIY job and just requires coding after fitting.
Get an ex-BMW trained mechanic who works for themselves to service your car, mine was trained on the E39 and you will save money as they know the models strength amd weaknesses.
Get a good one and you will not want to change it, I have had mine for 16years and 150K miles and given a polish it still looks good. Good luck.
I've had an e60, I have an e38, e39 and e34 currently. The e60 is newer, but has no class. Kinda like comparing a Kardashian to Sade

Had three generations of 5 series e34 e39 and e60 which I still have my 525 was a great car 540 e39 was strong but just did not inspire me like e34 brought 530 e60 and fell in love with styling and handling and longevity in styling and trends that it set in auto industry. Generations after e60 was and is crap unless you get the top of line models and they all look like has no character of their own IMHO BMW please bring back Chris bangle to bring 5 series identity back
This is the best comment here. For 10 years, up till 2017, bmw was the luxury car maker with highest sales. This was basically because of radically new designs by Chris bangle. Today Mercedes has taken over, due to bmw's outdated designs. The new Mercedes C or E class would easily attract a faithful Toyota lover, or a young chap, but a new bmw wouldn't cos it has no aesthetics. People get attracted to the appearance before they would even want to drive any car, period.
@@alfazentro9577 yes sir only the new 8 series does it for me and that is not all angles...I think BMW has too many models now and they seem to compete against each other trim it down and perfect what you have throwing in a lot of models only dilutes the prestige of the brand

Own them both in 530 engine spec. The e39 is the better car. E 60 is ugly and the driving experience in e39 is better. Is also more reliable than the e60. Both cars are dated . but at least the e39 is almost classic.

I never liked how the e60 looked..especially the headlights are so ugly...also the lines i do not like...only thing i like on a e60 is the engine sound of a n m5...the e39 i love so much

The E60 Is WORLDS BETTER than the E39. Ive owned both and the E39 was a huge POS. Rusted to hell---from factory. Suspension replaced, cooling replaced. E39 is shit.
