Ordered the kitbag direct from Helikon and the canteen set from SRO nary an hour ago. Going to mount on the Helikon Foxtrot MKII opposite a Helikon E&E pouch. So many options for carrying everything I could need for a day in the woods with my son in a small-ish and comfortable unit. Helikon and SRO(Pathfinder) are just the best. Ever onward, fellow woodrats!
@UrbanJungle then how would he fit more knives? Lol those should be in his pockets. Then he could carry actual fuel tablets, or God forbid, some kind of shelter item like a survival blanket!
Good video, and that's a good kit setup. I bought the complete Pathfinder bottle kit, bottle, two cups and lids, alcohol stove with pot stand/windscreen, wood burning stove, and extras. I never use it, though. I went back to the G.I. mess kit and G.I. canteen cook set that I've been using since 1971. Never have found anything better. That's a hundred and five dollars I wish I still had. One of my sons bought the Pathfinder canteen kit, and loves it.. The only thing bad about the canteen is that because it's thirty-nine ounces, rather than the standard thirty-two, you can't just drop a water purification tablet in because they're made to purify thirty-two ounces of water. The one thing I would suggest is buying the Pathfinder alcohol stove. It's a good deal bigger, both wider and taller, and works a lot better with the grill stove to you have. They're designed to work together, which is obvious once you use them at the same time. It's also made out of stainless steel, and won't crack like brass alcohol stoves are prone to doing.
+James Ritchie some really good points you left James I really appreciate the insight! I think an alcohol stove designed for the pathfinder kit would be more optimal. I’ll definitely check it out thanks for the suggestion. I like this kit but I love military surplus gear more, I’m looking for a surplus usgi cup and stove
Seems like a nice bag for a short hike without all the cooking stuff. But then again a small back pack with water bottle pockets might be more practical and comfortable.
Hello Kurt, it’s great for a day hike and if you want t to make coffee or tea or you can attach it to a molle compatible pack 👍. Thanks for watching and interacting with me
I've had the same kit for about 6 months, works great and holds up very well. Had it paired up with the Helikon Satchel, now I have it hanging off a Hidden Woodsman Haversack.
Thanks for sharing your experience with it James. How do you like the HW's haversack? I'd like to get one of those one day. Seems like when I have the extra cash to buy one, it's not available and when it's available I have too many other bills lol
Took me a while to save up for. Best money I have spent to date on a piece of gear. I've had mine for a month and use it everyday for work and hitting the woods.
I have this exact pouch and the Pathfinder canteen cook set. It’s too tight for the stove and cup. You have to struggle to get the canteen cup and stove out of it. I ended up using it for my smaller canteen kit and keeping the pathfinder set in the pouch it came in.
Nice well built pack just received mine. But it is too small to be really useful for me. The canteen takes up almost all of the space. I used the great Italian Army Surplus large mouth bottle with cup and tried to squeeze in the mini German stove. I prefer the Maxpedition versipack models. If you want to carry more gear plus water, the jumbo version also has a water bottle pouch for a nagene 38 oz. It also has many useful compartments. Plus lots of room for minimum bug out items Plus discrete pouch for your handgun. I also use the Versipacks for carrying gear on my motorcycle. Slung like a messenger bag it keeps my gear for the day well organized. Cheers
I sent for three to go on my battle belt with a first aid pouch. with the cool camo they are discontinuing. it's going to be how I organize my pack for recon after I make camp.
You should check out the vector thunderbird zippo insert if you want ur lighter fluid to have more life. It keeps the lighter fluid contained so it doesn’t just evaporate :)
Bushcraft Dave yes it does. You can find different varieties of flames like a standard soft flame or a torch style flame but both use butane as the fuel source.
Really helpful review. I also have a Pathfinder canteen kit and I am wanted to upgrade from the cheap yet functional pouch that came with it. I read someone say the Pathfinder kit, w/ stove and cup, is a tight fit in this pouch. What is your take on why they are saying that? I am ok with a snug fit as long as it is easy to put canteen out for a drink and not too difficult to get the cup and stove out.
I’ve got you covered! Ok the Canteen should be slid into a handy sleeve inside the pouch on the backside. Now the Canteen, bottle and stove- you should put it in a small ditty pouch, I use an old tyvek mailer and it’ll slid in smooth. The issue of a right fit is due to the handle, it protrudes our and gets caught. With the ditty pouch or some type of sleeve it’ll slide in easy. Remember to put the lid in the handy sleeve inside. If you have any more questions let me know! I can help you easier on IG I can send you a photo of how I do it. @bushcraftdave
@@BushcraftDave That makes sense. Thank you for the helpful insight. I watched more of your videos and some others and I am confident that I can work with it. Those protrusions on the Pathfinder kit get caught in any pouch I put it in. Even the main compartment of my pack or the pouch it came with. A compromise I can live with because I love the way the handle functions in staying away from the flame, another point of contact for stability, and holding the stove in place. The stove stand works very good with my Trangia Alcohol burner. I also have an Opinel like yours but with the olive wood handle. Really nice for food prep. Yours is beautiful. Is that the walnut? I ordered this pouch in OD Green and I looking forward to loading it out. By the way I am a new subscriber to your channel.
Thank you very much! You’ll love it. Can you find one of those tyvek usps mail bags? The tyvek works really well. It’s light and puncture resistant. Just remember to put the lid on the little sleeve in the inside. Are you on Instagram? I can post a quick video for you. And yes the opinel is Walnut, I love it!
@@BushcraftDave Yes I can find a tyvek mail bag. I have never tried Instagram. I think I will figure it out. Appreciate your help. Look forward to your next video.
I have this, and my only complaint is the moly fastener straps. They just tuck in and are prone to pulling out so be sure to also use a carabiner to secure it to your pack.
Great kit! I bought the pathfinder canteen set as well. Came with everything except the heavy canteen cover. I bought that separate. It comes in handy.
Hello Alex I’m sorry I don’t use binoculars I’m not familiar with the cases for them. If you want to use the kit bag as a bino chest bag I might work. Plenty of room.
Nice kit. If you haven’t already found out using a trangia burner under the pathfinder stove is not efficient (I know I tried). I picked up a X type trangia pot stand for less than 3 bucks with free shipping on eBay. Better and safer.
It’s not shiny anymore that’s for sure. This isn’t a field test of review of the cookset though, it’s about the bag. I just wanted to show what you can put in it. I’m sorry if you’re disappointed by my video. Thanks for watching anyway.

Very cool kit! Have you ever tried reverse osmosis water purification with it? If you’re willing to measure it, length/width/height I’ll try to see if it’ll fit.

Brief but thorough review, great job! I hate when reviewers turn a review like this into 30+ minutes just to run more ads. Keep up the great work!
I know what you mean. I get to make videos that I would appreciate watching. Thanks for the encouragement!
Ooooh, I like this..... I think it looks better than the "mother" pouch. Hmmmm my poor wishlist always gets longer after watching RUclips!

Haha yeah it is I love it! Thanks for watching
Have you considered packing another stove in there as the 3 you have already may not be sufficient
Thanks for the comment 👍. This kit I use for making easy lunch and coffee tea. For those purposes, a Trangia alcohol stove is very capable.

Hey Dave, what color is this?
Hi Clinton, it’s coyote brown 👍 my fav color lol
Great pack and review and I like that brass zippo
Thank you Kirk! I love that zippo too. I just got the UCO lantern and I wish I got it in brass but I got the red one because it was cheaper
