      I agree, so many other Gear reviews YT channels, only show the gear out of the box, but never show it being used in the real world of bushcrafting. cheers.

    Nice! Much like a haversack kit actually . I've been carrying a nalgene lately for the same reason, I have never put my stainless bottle in the fire. Nalgene is lighter. 👍 Cheers my friend.

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, sir! Definitely like a haversack kit, only without the annoying haversack itself...haha! The weight of the Nalgene compared to the Stanley is definitely a difference. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, my friend! -Dave

    You are prepared and I have an extra canteen with a filter in it to filter out water going into it and also have the Sawyer filtering system with the tablets to sterilize water being put into the canteens. I use the nalgene oasis with a US G.I. ss canteen cup in a Maxpedition canteen pouch that I always have on my belt when I hike. Good comparison Dave. I did question why the plastic canteen, your reasoning makes sense. I really like two things about your review..First off, the gear has been used, not bright and shiny new. I know you have tested the gear. Secondly , that you find ways to mix and match the gear. If one piece is lost or destroyed the whole kit is not unusable..you just switch out to another piece of gear that fits the kit. Also as to fit, I want to Thank You for the tip of adding the bandanna or paper towel in the kits. I always carry a paper towel between my Stanley Cook Set and Cup. I have had some good compliments on that and made sure to always give You credit for the idea. Thanks again for another great video My Friend, Take Care and I hope you have an awesome weekend!!

The bandana and paper towels work great for stopping the rattle and it allows you to have them on you at all times! Say HI to the grandkids for me and I hope your weekend went well, too, Lee! -Dave

    Great to see you out Dave. I really like your choices. I found that the over the shoulder bag bothers my shoulder after while so I keep switching back-and-forth and so I have stopped using a shoulder bag and just use a backpack with two straps over my shoulders. But you’re just a kid so it probably doesn’t bother your shoulders :-)I’m finding I’m switching to titanium or anodized aluminum because of weight. One good set up is the plastic canteen like you have with the titanium cup and lid. Looking forward to seeing you again my friend. God bless. John

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  6 лет назад

      Very nice to hear from you, John! I try to keep my shoulder bags as light as possible. Over longer hikes, they do tend to bother my shoulder after a while and they can get a bit awkward on how they swing around sometimes. This kit seems to work well and the maxpedition shoulder strap is nice. It was a noticeable difference when I switched out the Stanley SS Canteen for the much lighter Nalgene. However, there is nothing like two straps over the shoulders. Always my preferred carry. Plus, when using a backpack, I like the heavier weight because there is less pressure on just 1 shoulder. I thank you for stopping by and I hope to talk with you again soon, my friend! -Dave

    I recently purchased two of those Nalgene water canteens (blue)
    Dating for 2022 but no "Blackhawk" imprint.
    I use 2 water bottles to USGI stainless steel canteens with the butterfly handles 2 stainless steel lids by GAK outdoors.
    I carry two of each on a utility belt with a butt pack holding an ammo box with rice and canned meat to cook with an Esbit Stove.
    I do want to get a 2/4 insulated thermos maybe Stanley metal bottle so I can hold hot liquids after purifying water.
    After holding the containers I'm using Condor small utility pouchs with the Large Utility Pouch to hold a pair of Trangia aluminum mess tins.

    It was a very good look at putting two kits together and being able to interchange some of the components. Very much like the new canteen especially the fact that it is relatively transparent. I made up a kit to keep in the vehicle for day walks or just fixing a meal when checking out a new area and the backpack is at home. It's a emergency kit using the Stanley Cook Kit to keep in my Jeep , Wrangler. Using a Condor H20 pouch. Starting at the bottom of the of the pouch there is a Oilcamp Stainless Steel Space Saver Cup. Then the Stanley Adventure Cook Camp System which fits ( sits ) inside the cup. The tapered sides of the Stanley Camp Cook kit fits inside the cup like it was made for it. Along the outside of the Stanley is a long handled Titanium spoon. Inside the Stanley is the Gen2 Folding Firebox Nano Ultralight Backpacking 3" Stove. On top of the Stanley is a Trangia Alcohol burner so I can cook with either alcohol or wood. The outside pocket of the Condor has a plastic ( Flask shaped ) 8 oz bottle which has the Denatured Alcohol for the Trangia. Next to it is a fero rod for lighting the burner or starting a fire. Folded next to the fero rod is a bandana which can be used if the handles of either pot gets to hot for a bare hand to touch. A few months later I added two canteen pouches one on each side of the Condor H20 pouch. One pouch has a Nalgene canteen in it and the other pouch has a couple dehydrated meals. Thanks to using a wood fire the Stanley has a nice blacken bottom and sides which I think helps it to heat up quicker.

      Excellent setup you have there, Chuck! The Condor H2O pouch is excellent for the Stanley Adventure Cook cup system. I keep it in my H2O pouch, as well, along with the Stanley 32oz water bottle. You have made a small mistake both of the canteen cups are U.S.G.I. all Dave Canterbury did was, was to copy the one with the handle on the one that he made and used steel instead of aluminum like the military did I know this because when I was 8n the marines I was issued both types. But both are also now being issued in the steel variety which I think is a lot better so other than the slight mistake fantastic cook kits. Keep up the good work.

    Hey Friend 🙂 Always a good day when one of your videos pop up. That’s a really nice setup for day hikes! I’ve been looking at those nalgene canteens since your last video. Some other guy said that even though you can’t put it directly in the fire you can pour boiling water in it since it’s dishwasher safe? No Lagom in your kit? Do you rotate them? You have so many awesome knives. I have 2 lol. Well 3 but that camp muk was kind of a disappointment. I don’t carry it. The handle really cramps up your forearm. It’s definitely not for wood carving. I can see how it would be great at everything else though. EDC stuff and food prep. Would you like to demo it? I feel bad it just sits in my drawer. Just let me know and I will mail it to you for a few months👍🏻

    Hey Dave! Great kit! You have a knack for piecing together very good kits.
    Question; I’ve been considering getting an alcohol stove for my kit. However, I’m wondering if they take more time to bring water to a boil than a butane type backpacking stove (what I use now). If you could provide any insight, I’d appreciate it! I’m tired of carrying around that butane canister! Thanks!

      Hi David! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! Great question. I have never used a butane type backpack stove, however, in the videos I have seen, it seems like they could boil water quicker than the trangia. That being said, the trangia is excellent and very easy to carry! Plus the Emberlit stove and the pathfinder canteen stove work really well as a windscreen and pot lifter for the trangia. I hope this helps, my friend, and I look forward to taking with you again soon! -Dave
