My canteen kit includes: USGI canteen, USGI canteen cup, & lid, aluminum GI canteen stove and a Sierra cup (perfect for grits or oatmeal). Sometimes an Esbit folding pocket stove with fuel cubes. Been using this set up since the early 1970’s for both camping & hunting & still my go to for quick meals or drinks.

I made up a kit to keep in the vehicle for day walks or just fixing a meal when checking out a new area. It's a kit using the Stanley Cook Kit to keep in my Jeep. Using a Condor H20 pouch. Starting at the bottom of the of the pouch there is a Oilcamp Stainless Steel Space Saver Cup. Then the Stanley Adventure Cook Camp System which fits ( sits ) inside the cup. The tapered sides of the Stanley Camp Cook kit fits inside the cup like it was made for it. Along the outside of the Stanley is a long handled Titanium spoon. Inside the Stanley is the Gen2 Folding Firebox Nano Ultralight Backpacking 3" Stove. On top of the Stanley is a Trangia Alcohol burner so I can cook with either alcohol or wood. The outside pocket of the Condor has a plastic ( Flask shaped ) 8 oz bottle which has yhe Denatured Alcohol for the Trangia. Next to it is a fero rod for lighting the burner or starting a fire. Folded next to the fero rod is a bandana which can be used if the handles of either pot gets to hot for a bare hand to touch. A few months later I added two canteen pouches one on each side of the Condor H20 pouch. One pouch has a Nalgene canteen in it and the other pouch has a couple dehydrated meals. Thanks to using a wood fire the Stanley has a nice blacken bottom and sides which I think helps it to heat up quicker.

I have ALL the same gear you have with the exception of the 40 OZ stainless steel Nalgene bottle and the pouch. It works GREAT doesn't it? I LOVE the Stanley cup. I also LOVE the canteen cup set up with the kidney shaped stove stand etc. etc. All of that gear is great gear. I think the WW II old style handle on your canteen cup from Pathfinder store is called a "D handle" but I may be wrong. It is definitely not a butterfly handle. I may have to look into the pouch your have. It looked pretty good too. Great video. Thanks for sharing it. Glad to see you use your gear too. Rock on Man!

I had one of those WWII era canteen cups, but it was irretrievably misplaced some years ago. I just happened to buy a replacement today. It's actually a 1977 NATO issue cup. Anyway, I was looking at the slots in the handle and wondering what their purpose was. (This question is what led me here.) I do steel fabrication work, and hear "cha-ching" whenever I see features like this. I'm still stumped about the vertical slot at the bottom of the handle, but the horizontal slot at the top accepts a bayonet blade quite nicely, essentially making a longer handle. If anyone has any knowledge regarding these slots, I will be grateful for your input. Best regards!

From what I have heard (I was never in the military), the higher slot in the cup handle was for putting a utensil in to extend the handle reach. The lower slot of the cup handle fits into the long handle of the old mess kits. The slots in the issued flatware of the time, also fit onto the long mess kit handle. After the soldiers finished eating, they would slide their cup and utensils onto the mess kit handle. While holding the handle, they would dunk everything into a large container of hot water to quickly rinse everything off. I do not have the flatware to try, but the lower slot on the cup fits perfectly.

Mancave Monday. I like those canteens with the long handle, three points of contact make them very steady when being set down.

I don't have a problem with the butterfly handles on my crusader cup, you just have to engage the two legs together. In my opinion the main advantage with the "T" handle can be summed up in three words - cost of manufacture. It doesn't make the cup more stable and it is not more secure than properly made butterfly handles. Somebody has done a very good marketing job on an inferior product. All the best.

Definitely like the Mancave Monday’s. I got the canteen pouch with my Pathfinder Cook Kit but not a fan of tan gear. Very glad that LostWild has green and black options cuz it is a great pouch! It’s almost too big (width from back to front) to attach to another pack tho. Really want the Nalgene bottle to nest in my Stanley adventure cup. Gonna finally make that happen through LostWild eventually! Thanks as always Kenny

Nice, so instead of the coffee singles I just buy a big jar of it and depending on how long I'm going I put some in ziplock bags. Much cheaper that way and you can use your spoon to measure out how much you want. I go to the field for work a good bit, anywhere from an over night to a month. This works for me.

P.S. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BOIL WATER IN A DOUBLE WALLED, INSULATED STEEL BOTTLE!!!!!
only boil water in a single walled stainless bottle...the dangerous potential for a rupture of a double walled container is very real.

As for other topics it would be fantastic to hear about things that you use for hunting and fishing and what you carry or mite carry in your bags or pack I use a bow and muzzle loader for hunting and am currently peicingctogether a hobo fishing kit to carry in case of emergencies along with a snake kit that I find works very well for small game like rabbits,ECT. Hope to hear from you soon and again thanks.

Man cave Monday's is awesome I like this with the cook kit and I noticed with the last part of this segment when you showed the round water bottle nested in the cup inside the canteen carrier bag that you also have enough room to carry the Stanley cook pot along side of it too for added cooking if need be. Also I am trying to find the hot lips guards that you showed and can not seem to be able to do so. Can you help along with the price of them? Thank you in advance.

I’ve been hooked on building kits for over 40 years.
Started out building kits around my knives.
    Fire-kits, water-kits, first aid-kits, hygiene-kits, etc.
“Canteen” cook kits is a good one. You have a great start there. Every cook-kit should have fire makings and cleanup supplies.
Of course, you won’t be finished making kits until you have one for everyone in your family, extended family, friends, and give-away kits for strangers that you might meet along the way.... 😉
I know, because I haven’t seen able to stop making these kits.
    😆

Absolutely a fantastic video. I have been backpacking and camping for over 55 years and this video is one of the great ones I have seen. You speak in a soft manner and explain everything well. I will recommend your videos to all I know. I knew about Lost wild but I am so glad you mentioned them. Just an idea for you. Add a small water filter to your kit. That way this can serve as an emergency cooking Truck, Car, or travel Kit.
