Glad to see I'm not the only one who really likes the Ozark Trail headlamps. I have friends with really nice ones who like mine more, which is pretty hilarious when they find out it's from Wal-Mart.
I love the Ozark Trail headlamp! I've owned others that were much more expensive but I've like this one the best and its build like a tank! I feel like its lasted forever through all types of weather. Not to mention, the beauty is in it's simplicity and you cannot beat running it on 3 AAA batteries! Dave, this was an absolutely excellent video! When you took the American Knife Company knife out I just was in awe what a beautiful tool. I very much like how you use reasonably priced gear also so many people spend so much when at times they don't have to. Your advice is very valuable when it comes to this. Great load out Dave! I love that little axe nice packable size and great for crafting. That knife was nice too. I just bought and tested the trangia 27-3. Very practical rig, brother, and not just because I use a lot of the exact same components including the lesser expensive accoutrements like Ozark Trail products, and especially the Bahco Laplander and the Council Tool Hudson Bay LOL. Tried-and-true equipment, regardless of price, is imperative upon its dependability, personal likes, and functionality.
Looks tremendously like my own rig. Once you've done this long enough, you really do find out what works and you stick with it.

Great video. Like the fact you listed the things inside the pack below the video. Some will tell you, what they have. You have to catch what they say. Did you hear it right.Then replay it 4 or 8 times. I all so pick up my second Pathfinder knife. PKS GRIZZLY Dirty By Design. No dirt time yet! Came razor sharp. It heave, feels like a tool in your hand. It is a tad thicker then the PKS Scorpion. But I'm putting that on the steel run. As all ways, Thanks for taking US along!!!!

Ok, I gave you a thumbs up, when you said you use ozark trail. Then I had to subscribe when you pulled out the harbor freight blanket. I use some ozark trail stuff and I have 3 of the same wool blankets from h/f. Pack and loadout is a little different from mine but not much. Dog"s", that cool! I also have 2 dogs with me most of the time.

Very nice bushcraft loadout! I usually use the Wal-Mart Ozark Trail tarp as a ground cloth. It's a decent tarp to have for simple tasks. Yet, I've been thinking about getting a wool blanket to get me off the ground or keep me warmer with my bushcraft sleep system set-up.

My dogs still scared of fire so he can't go on the longer trips but he does like when I use the Bahco to get him sticks, truly a multiuse tool!

I am the same Dav...I got the Vulture 2 maxpedition for my edc. It is a little bit tacticool, which I wanted for the pouch attachments options..Love it for my daily early morning hikes , and work. I get alot of men whom comment on it and I enjoy the time , to explain to them, about what I carry and why. (fak pouch, possibles pouch and water bottle.) Alot of them ask where I get it, for their future purchases. The 1000 denure matierial is so tough and the 45liter is very comfortable for adding weight for my cardio workouts.

Thanks for sharing. The 24 hour pack looks nice. iv been using the 12 and 24 hour packs since their release and have been super happy with them. Very nice selection of gear.

I have always been curious about the 12 hour. My favorite is still the awesome LAPG Operator Backpack, however the Atlas packs are great, too! -Dave
opps. I just noticed I say i have the 12 and 24 hour. I actually own the 12 and 72 hour packs. I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other. I fill the 72 hour completely up and use it when traveling to a base camp. For the 12 hours I really only use it for when hiking away from basecamp. I can fit my camera, survival kit, first aid kit, hammock, water filter, and a meal into the 12 hour so its good for when away from the base camp.

Thanks a lot. Interesting and informative. I also wanted to see the foods you bring with you for the bushcraft hiking. BTW the season has finally come to me that I can start to use the full set of GI sleeping bag I bought earlier this year. I watched your another video and bought it. From an outdoor fan in Japan.
I bought mine for a winter trip last year and I love it. I'm in the states (Tennessee) so it's not too cold. Slept on a tarp on the ground and was fine. You can just use the outer shell for warmer months. It's very versatile.

Usually a rotation of Raman noodles, Knorr rice sides and eggs to scramble in one for or another. Was it the MMSS system that you purchased? I think you are going to love it! Is there a *real* reason for having so many cook kits/stoves in one pack for a single outing?
The guy has 3 ferro rods and some wood that is literally just for rubbing together to make fire. I don't think he's going for most practical here.
He specifically said the stuff in his pack is what he keeps in rotation. Such a weird thing to spend the time to comment on a video without even watching/listening...

I notice that you did, not have food included was it just for this video also I would add at least 2 3 ply 55-60 gal drum liners for a debris mattress to help against body heat loss thrue the ground it would help a lot without a lot of weight and room taken up ( lays flat ) and are easily filled with leaves and pine needles but it is a very good setup also what about compass I seen that you did not show one or was it in the possibles pouch?
Great to see another video from you Dave! Awesome kit as always. Thanks for the reminder about the Bushcraft Outfitters 10x10. I have an aqua quest 7x10 for my rectangle tarp and have been looking into getting a larger square tarp to increase the options it provides for tarp shelter configurations and this reminder is gonna save me a great deal of $$$ with this option. Can you give me a rough estimate on its size when packed into the stuff sack?

The tarp stuffs really well into a generous stuff sack and packs beautifully. I'd say when the tarp is in the sack it's about 11x8" and 3-4" thick. Truthfully, I have no idea what the red strobe is for, as I have never used it for anything..haha! I have never used a GB axe but I can say that Council Tool axes are about all I ever use and I love them! Thank you for taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave

This was just the knife I brought on this day trip as I have many that I rotate. I don't mind the Mora 511 but prefer the old Mora 510. -Dave
It's amazing that LAPG can make such awesome equipment and sell if for as cheap as they do and keep the quality high. I was going to get the tactical chest rig to hold extra ammo and meds on top of my plate carrier to go with the Atlas 72, but I decided it looked too much like a saggy man boobs bra, lol. I noticed that you do something I also do, make extensive use of compression sacks inside the ruck to save space and pack more gear in there ( they call it a 72 hour bag. By strapping 2 MOLLE pouches together and putting a set or more inside compression sacks in the ruck, making use of the tons of MOLLE on the outside of the bag [I also Ranger fold my extra clothing], my pistol belt, and my tac vest/plate carrier, you can live for a week or more with that backpack. You just have to know what to pack and how, knowledge of wood craft/bush craft/wilderness skills, how to hunt, track, fish, and shoot. I may pack heavy, but I pack useful stuff. What kind of headlamp is that, what batteries does it use, how many lumens, and what's the run time? When I heard you say under $20 I thought "huh? Mine was more than 3 times more". My camp saw is cheaper, tho. It's an Ultimate Survival Technologies Field Saw 7.0. Your saw looks nicer, mine is just like a 7 inch folding knife with an orange and gray rubber and plastic handle with a black oxide coated blade, like a big, lock-blade knife. It was $20 in the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog. I've had it for years and it's always been good, but yours seems to be a higher quality saw. I also carry a commando wire saw. Not a cheapo $2 one that lasts for a couple of saplings and snaps, but a $9 like the military uses ( it can also be used as a wire snare for rabbits and the like, as well as a garrotte if need be). You also carry way more in the way of stoves and the like, and there is no such thing as too much para cord IMO. To each his own, we have different ways of packing and stuff we bring, and we're both obviously capable of survival in the wilderness. Even tho we may go about it differently and with different gear, we both have the valuable skills to survive. That's an important skill set and it seems to be a dying art among young people today. Be safe in those woods and pack what works for you. All the best ~ Cthulhu 669

Im planing on getting a LTWK G.N.S for hiking and multi day woodcraft trips and I am stuck wondering if I should get it in CPM-3V of O1 because I have experience with neither of the two steels and was wondering how long O1 can hold an edge. And if anyone has experience with both steels, how big of a difference in edge retention is there in CPM-3V VS O1? Thanks!
They are both excellent steels, IMHO! I find the edge retention in both to be outstanding but off the top of my head, I have touched up my 01 knives a bit more than my CPM-3V. I don't have a problem in touching up either one of them. You won't have to look after the CPM-3V as much. The 01 steel will require a bit more care and maintenance. I don't think you could go wrong with either, but I would say that if you can afford the CPM-3V GNS, go for it. Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave

You have to be careful at HF. They do have a petrchemical smell. I go through all the stock they have and pick the one with the least amount of smell. I wash them on gentle cycle and dry on low heat. Expect to clean your filter every 4 minutes...yes four minutes. Then I hang it outside in a nice sunny low humidity day. The smell will go away but it may take several of the above times to get it to your expectations. Trying anti odor additives to the washer won't hurt, either. Sometimes they can be itchy. Sometimes not. The more it is washed the less itchy and softer it will become. Seems like a lot of work but it is very warm and I love them for $12. If you have sensitivities to smells/itch I would not buy it. If not, it's a great blanket for the price. What can you buy for $12????

Thank you for the kind words, Mike! Truthfully, after all these years, I have never really "washed" the HF wool blanket. I just hang it outside in a rain storm and then keep it outside to dry naturally, as I do with all my wool. As stated in the comment below, it did have a slight smell to it, however, this blanket lives outdoors and after about a week of being in the weather, it was no longer noticeable.
