Oh man thank you ALL SO much. Everyone that was involved in making this a reality, thank you. Brann, man, I've been following your progress for almost 2 decades and I so admire your willingness to write good songs. I can't wait to binge watch this tonight 🤙🏻Woo!!
And it always sounds fuckin amazing, he’s gotta be one of the busiest drummers ever but somehow the drums always sound absolutely perfect with the rest of the music. Man is a genius and a fuckin legend and for me the most fun drummer ever to listen to.
I'm with you on that, but what might also be cool is ask him to interpret the drumpart from like, "Slide" by the goo goo dolls. They're from where he grew up, I can only imagine what an homage to Rochester NY would look like from Bran.
Hes one of the few drummers i have ever come across that deliberately over plays and has successfully incorporated it into his style. It doesnt come off as "showy" even though hes putting drum fills on his breakfast. It just works so well. Incredible drummer
I think of Mastodon as a band, where Bill and Troy are the rhythm section, and Brent and Brann are playing lead. When the guitars are keeping the pace, Brann can flickety-flam all over the place and bring the danger and excitement.
No doubt, definitely one of the busiest drummers out there but somehow it always ends up sounding amazing, he’s a really unique drummer. Dude is a total legend
TL;DR he does everything the song needs while still personalizing and filling out the composition to make it engaging Brann's drumming always evoked something I feel I see in guitars most often. there's a quality in a lot of the "messier" metal genres like stoner doom, thrash, death metal, etc. where the guitars accent in a very percussive manner while having loose, almost jazzy phrases that comprise the negative space between those accents. riffs in songs like Take No Prisoners by Megadeth are good examples of this, where the way that the fast strings of notes fit in between the chunky F# accents can be notated and played precisely, but that precision truly isn't necessary for the riff to make its point. In this way, I have always seen the blistering snare-focused playing on Leviathan as an expression of knowing what notes matter the most and how to play around them with soul and energy that isn't about some beautiful, ideal finesse. He writes fantastic parts just going off of composition, so to add that extra action to them I think shows he not only understands the needs of the song but how to bring an actual sense of character
I can't say that Mastodon's, Brann's, drumming ever felt over played to me. I can't get enough. The songs are like paintings painted in real time. I love the switches in tempo, timing, vibe. I'm going on that ride. Their music has so much connection, that you just want to hear the whole album in one sitting, like listening to records, er, I mean 'vinyls'. The balance of guitars, bass, drums, vocals, and keys, demonstrate how much they are a band and more. It might be true though. that his drumming might seem busy, it melds well within their songs.
I could watch this dude play and talk about his music all day long. He’s such a genuine dude, I would’ve killed to have spent this hour in the same building
Agreed! A lot of times when artists are telling the story of how a song or technique or whatever came to be, I get bored pretty quickly. But something about the way Brann tells the story just stays interesting.
Was surprised to see this. Blood Mountain was my first listen and first love. Then Crack the Skye came and it just took off. Leviathan is their best, though, IMO.
Watching Brandon wear a huge grin throughout The Last Baron was incredibly satisfying to see and experience. To be in that room must have been electric.
@@Nebuloid1 im honestly super surprised there was not a single remission or leviathan song here. This is amazing. Brann came prepared and is taking this very seriously. Sometimes I feel like some of the guests Drumeo highlights often are just messing around. That's fine, but it is great to see an artist really getting into their catalogue and trying difficult songs. This is just mesmerizing. Thanks Brann, Drumeo and Brandon. This one is legendary.

What brought me to Mastodon was….you guessed it, Rush. Brann stands out amongst every metal and prog rock drummer I’ve ever listened to. I see heavy Keith Moon influence on his playing, but his playing also has orchestrated chaos in it, love it man.
In terms of musical depth and instrument virtuosity, I believe no other group comes close to Mastodon, and especially Brann Dailor is incredible on the drums. He not only has mastered them and their essence in music, but also adds the much needed gentleness and fragile, vulnerable emotion with his vocals. The way Mastodon tackles trauma, pain, and their negative emotions to create music is, to me at least, unique and not something I find in any other genre, singer or musician.
I would say old Opeth, Tool, Ne Obliviscaris, Beyond Creation, Meshuggah and Death qualify for each member being virtuosos. I listen to hundreds of bands and I can not name one more

SO stoked you did The Last Baron. The fill at 00:24:38 is my all time favourite Brann fill, can clearly remember the first time I heard when Crack the Skye as released. Starting before the end of one bar, the way he fills up the entire next bar, the kick drum/crash triplets at the end. So heavy, seemingly simple but so damn effective and awesome
Brann is not only hilarious, but has an instantly recognizable drum sound that sets him apart from all other drummers. Blazing fast single stroke drum fills and patterns syncopated with the guitar riffs that often times creates the most beautiful controlled chaos you'd ever want to hear. As a singing drummer myself, when asked how do I sing and play at the same time, I simply say "The drumming is on auto pilot, muscle memory is doing it's thing, I'm just focusing on singing in key". I love the idea that there are three singers in Mastodon. Three completely unique voices and each voice is able to suit a particular song. Super talented band and it’s a real treat to watch Brann Dailor play live. Wow 🤩

I don't double back to re watch too often on RUclips but I think this deserves a second watch.
On top of the technical skill he has, Brann's Stamina is astounding!
This is what I’ve been waiting for. Such a massive F’ing Mastodon fan. Love Brann so much. He’s incredible. So glad you had him. Please have him on more!
I like that he uses all parts of the drum heads not a single inch wasted
His playing blows my mind.
Wish he’d play “Possession” by Today is the Day. That is the crown jewel of his drumming at peak intensity.
Brann is one of my favorite drummers of all time. I could watch him play all day. Thanks for this Drumeo!
It's insane to me that this kind of content is just free on RUclips!
My buddies and I met Brann on Mastodon's tour with Primus, dude was super friendly dude.
Brann will forever be my favorite drummer
Drumeo sounding better than albums always boggles my mind.
Underrated comment!!!
The fucking kick drum on this 😵😵💫
To be fair, they have tons of mics, rooms treated specifically for drums. The engineers do ONLY drums all day every day. There’s probably $50k worth of mics for them to choose from.
I mean it doesn't sound better per say, it just sounds louder, giving the drums more protagonism.. but our brains always think louder = Better.
@@nicknorton7132 that snare is sick asf
Dude plays drums with such joyful abandon and creativity. It's totally pocket and totally nuts. He's my favorite rock drummer of all time.
Crazy good. The way he can deliver the energy AND sit in the song is just awesome.
Every single drum and cymbal in this video sounds unreal. Phenomenal video with Brann. Cant wait for new Mastodon!
Simply the greatest drummer of his generation. A phenomenal talent.
Not a huge mastodon fan but I like this dudes character. Seems super cool to chill and jam with!!
Everything about the drumming on The Last Baron, from complexity to length, is mind-blowing.
Hell Yeah!! Brann Dailor is one of my all time favorite drummers! This is great!!!
