Stealth Car Camping in a Converted Land Rover Defender. Land Rover Camper. 24hr Ration Pack.

- In this video, I spend the night stealth car camping in my Land Rover whilst travelling across the country to meet up with Kent Survival. Once dark, I set up my home for the night, drawing the curtains and making myself comfortable before tucking into some dinner and enjoying the evening. A comfortable nights sleep and I’m refreshed and ready to continue with my journey.
I converted my Land Rover into an off-road, off-grid overlanding camper. It has a basic, but functional kitchen for cooking, a comfortable hammock bed, swivel seating, heating and lighting - everything I need to spend the night comfortably.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

Camping with Simon is like a luxury version of Camping with Steve!
Without the step 2 😂
😂😂
Hahahah oh my gosh and I’m hooked on both God bless ‘em
I like the road noise as it makes me feel like I’m right there with ya having a Wee ration pack. We jjst love hanging with ya doesn’t matter where or how long sir
You sir are a legend when I was recovering from a major heart attack in hospital I used to watch your videos and they were so uplifting ♥ god bless you and your family 👪
You definitely have the space in your Land Rover figured out. So compact and practical. How fun to have put this together. Always making it your own is the key. Thank you for your wonderfully entertaining videos Simon. Keep up the fine work. With love and respect from Minnesota, USA❤️
It is perhaps just me.....I always find I'm saying to the laptop I watch Simon's videos on, as Simon walks or drives away..."you've forgotten your camera!!"..... So good to see your hard work in practice. Always inspiring. Thanks Simon.
Better than a Travelodge mate ;) haha
Don’t say he’s done a Bear Ghrylls!!! 🤣
What?? You question the excellence of the Palace of the Nine Virtues the magnificent Travelodge? Next you’ll be doubting the apogee of culinary excellence The Little Chef. Hang on I’ve a feeling the nettles I picked for my tea might have been more exotic.
Great video mate as always really like your land rover conversion is it’s 300 tdi or td5 ?
Looks like Home away from home to me Simon. Perfect way to travel and save lots of Money...lol. Great video!
Simon why not think about making your own power oak station.Would be a good watch like all your other videos .All your stuff is amazing and very addictive. Keep up the good work .
Very nice simple set up there Simon. My grandparents converted an H plate 1970 long wheel base 2 birth Landy with a capstan winch in which they toured around in. Shipped it to South Africa and America, drove to Morocco and North Capp. Loved it as a kid, was fascinated by the levers and loved the blue diesel light! They were living the van life in the 70’s😂
Nice! Great memories 😁
Just got round to watching. Top video Simon! Love the conversion you’ve done to it. Still working on mine but got distracted. Back to it soon hopefully! 😆
You've picked the perfect vehicle for rural stealth camping! Just another old land rover......blends right in! 😁 Very cosy and comfy too.
Watching this just makes me smile. The best kind of video.
The hammock is a great solution to the space problem
Never would have thought of it
A great idea for sure. It would certainly save me some space in my little Vauxhall Combo van BUT,,, where would I fix it up to that’s going to be strong enough 🤔🤔
I can only describe your Land Rover as bloody splendid!!
As far as "road noise", when you're sleeping, I've used ear plugs for over 35 years. They really do the trick, and cut you off from the outside world.
Amazing how you have converted the Land Rover looks better equipped than some caravans 🤣. Very entertaining for us and that place is so picturesque. A great watch who needs TV?
Only just found your channel. Thanks to Kent survival. You've got a nice little set up. I'll watch the conversion videos over the weekend.👍👍👍. Cheers.
I love this stealthy unit you have built. It's perfect for just what you're doing. Travel light, travel fast. I wish you could bring it to north America. This would do well in the states and Canada.
Simon you're the man......keep on enjoying life.
Thank you Simon. Love your set up and it’s simplicity.
Look forward to seeing more of your stealthy camping travels.
Top job Simon! Love it, hammock, dog bowl, magnets all genius touches. 😎
Hats off to the versatility and ingenuity you pit on display with this rover build. Its an absolute treat to see it in use and all the little improvements along the way. Keep up the awesome adventures and thanks as always for sharing in the experience! Take care and be well.
I can just see you inadvertently having “stealth camped” in the local dogging hotspot and it turning into an amateur filmmakers symposium… the curtains on the Defender must have done some twitching!!! 😂 Ecstatic screams of “Oh Boi” filled the night sky as Simon kindly whipped out the hot chocolate… 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t speak for Oh Boy’s properties as an aphrodisiac but I’m told the best thing to do is just dim the lights, pour hot chocolate and ahem give it to her. She should be singing “I believe in miracles” in no time at all… 😂
Hahaha - that’d be a different kind of video! 🤣
Aha! Thought I’d seen that Tilly hat making an appearance elsewhere! 🤣
@@tomwilson6915 oh aye, what you been watching Tom 😂
Oh you know bud just the exotic ones you keep forwarding to me on WhatsApp from your Dan cave 😂
❤️ finally!! I really like that hammock.
My doorstep Simon! The wife kayaks from that very spot. Lovely place.
Awesome buddy awesome.. love the land rover.. look forward to next vid .. cheers Chris & Sam
I've loved this set up from when you first posted your "Off Grid Adventure Wagon" video a year ago. And you've only made it better. The crowning glory however is the canoe paddle shifter knob! Love it! I wish they sold these old Defenders where I live in Canada. You can order them in from out of country by some specialist dealers but they cost a small fortune. Thanks for another great video Simon. ATB from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 - Darby
Really enjoyed this video. yeah, more of these countryside's are brilliant. Cheers.
You, Andy, and camp = likes :)
That is better than most hotels. The magnets for the cups is a class idea. So simple and the hammock... I never would have guessed you were about to whip out a hammock 😄 Fair play again Simon, fantastic video as usual. All the best 👍 Jason
I like the Land Rover conversion, no blingy stuff, just simple and practical. And I can't wait to learn what U and Andy are up to on the next adventure 😀👍
Lovely little stop. So cool that you comfy in it.
That’s the coolest stealth camper ever! Love it! Driving on the left side of the road freaked me out though!
Amusing seeing you emerge from the vehicle with a hot cup of coffee after doing a stealth overnight. Enjoyed the video !! Thanks.
Great idea for the sink and the water
SPLENDID. The conversion is even more complete. You demonstrate that a homeless person with a pension could live comfortably. At the START of the video, it was more: SIMON BLOKE ON THE MOTORWAY.😊 You and Andy can compare setups! Looking forward to it.
Yaay! A much anticipated camp with the Land-rover! I enjoyed this very much. Looks like such a great way to camp for a change of pace. Glad you & Andy can get together for camp! Look forward to it.
Very nice and efficient.
The ration pack hot chocolate is off the scale tasty! 👍
Great video.👍👍👍 That’s one nice Land Rover . Great setup 👍👍👍
I love the hammock setup like that, I am going to look in to doing the same in the back of my transit custom. Got a rocknroll bed in already, but would be great to have this extra option in as well
Simon, well done on showing off the Rover. Thats a Working Man's DIY camping rig. All the luxuries without the huge price tag. Beautiful, because form follows function.
Bloody love your Land Rover Simon!
Very relaxing video to watch
Thanks Simon👌 A simple overnighter gets the serotonin flowing here (let alone you!)😎 Safe journey and I look forward to the two perspectives of your jaunt with Andy @kentsurvival👏
Curried chickpeas AND sweet chili Mexican peanuts all in the same evening?
Good thing you opened the vents overnight.
That was megga Simon ! pukka Defender there mate top job with that
Awesome video like your converted stealthy Land Rover excellent workmanship on your land rover thanks for a fantastic video Simon.
I live in Manitoba, where we get around a month of -35°C weather, and -20 the rest of winter. If your car leaves the road, it can get buried in a ditch or behind snowbanks and be invisible to passing traffic. Happened to a woman here who broke both arms in the crash and lost both feet to frostbite. So, it’s good to have a good winter sleeping bag, extra mitts and toque and a big candle in a can. Mohair socks are 2 times warmer than wool (from my own experience working outdoors), and natural fur is best for insulation (beaver, muskrat, rabbit, deerskin). For rations, I’ve heard of a guy who keeps a can of dog food in his truck. He’ll only eat it if he’s truly hungry.
Like your stove cupboard.
I think you have done a fantastic job making the landy into a comfortable living space. Camping with comfort 👍👍👍.
I’d always thought of Northamptonshire as a bit of an uninspiring county but the spot you stayed at looks beautiful. 😊👍😊
Hammock and a converted Landy!
How to make a man jealous!!
Great setup.
Love it. I've just spent the weekend in my converted freelancer.
Awesome stealth camp! Really like the set up with the hammock and kitchen! Thanks for another great video!
What a fantastic set up! Everything you need right at hand, really enjoyed this one.
That’s great Simon! Pity you couldn’t stealth camp a little bit further off the road! But a good addition to your modus operandi! Enjoy & take care!
Another great video. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Love your Defender and your videos!
Absolutley love it! thanks Simon!
It's a treat to watch your videos after a long time. As always love your videos. Keep'em coming sir !!
Yay, Simon’s back. Ration pack 1 super duper for spiking your mood. Awesome video and great to see you out and about.
When I saw the canal boats, I thought you'd parked by a canal ( I live on a canalboat, so instantly interested.) But the river is so gorgeous .What a beautiful spot for a stealth camp. I bet it makes such a difference to your comfort having a sink. It's looking really cozy the Landrover with everything you need close to hand.
Always enjoy seeing the Rover. That's quite a machine and very impressed with the mods you've done.
A very homely setup.
lovely. 10 minutes from my house :) great video
Awesome convertion on that rig, very cool my friend 🤠
Have been waiting for this one Simon and have thoroughly enjoyed it can't wait to see more land rover overnighter well done matey.
While it may not look luxurious, your conversion looks exceptionally functional! But that is no surprise from A Bloke in the Woods! Also happy to hear you're meeting up with Andy. Will look forward to that video if you are filming it!. Stay safe and Healthy Simon. Cheers!
Simon - Give yourself a break. Great video even with a little traffic. Noticed it more because you kept bringing it up. You were camping right next to a busy road ...
Awesome, looking forward to this
Excellent stuff Simon 👍🏻 Great to see the Landrover out and about plus all the modifications that you’ve done, great set up and looks like it works well, plus the luxury of the diesel heater just to take the chill off you in the morning 👍🏻🚐 superb 👌🏻
Should have done a bit of fishing while you were there. Standing on the river bank with a fishing rod would have been a suggestive explanation why the RR was by the river side. Bonus points for catching your dinner!
Love it Simon awesome that was!!!!!!
Great video as always. Love the commitment to the end shot -driving off and leaving the camera behind 😀
What a great build.
That's a great setup you've got there sir...
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Simon 🍻
Appreciate and enjoy your videos, well done Simon!
A very cosy setup you have Simon, looked comfortable and a lovely view to boot. Appreciated your featuring the Archimedes screw also, great job all around👍
Great video Simon , thanks . Looking forward to part 2 .
Nice little vehicle you got there Simon!
Cracking honest vlog Simon. Love your work and thanks again for sharing buddy!
A really beautiful spot, and a lovely video
Ah...you have a snorkel on your Land Rover....so you can visit Rufford Mill Ford, North Nottinghamshire....there is a foot of water on their bridge all the time and people try to fly thru it...jeeps and Land Rovers w/snorkels go flying thru the water, while others get hydrolocked... sucking water into their engines and have to be towed away..a guy has a u tube channel showing this...Happy Camping...Connecticut, USA here....😎😎
Love this video Simon as always top quality and great content!
Classic starter for the main event coming, love how everything has its place 😜😁
Thanks for this one Simon, look forward to seeing you and Andy together soon x
That looks like a very comfy mobile "home" Simon! Great use of the space available, well done!.
You need some Jiffy Pop for a reading snack.😁
Great set up. Happy travels.
Awesome set up, Simon! Very functional and cozy, will have to go back over your conversion videos and take some notes to implement those bright ideas into our toyota previa. Thanks for sharing your stealth camp with us!
What a wonderful little camp. All the very best to you Simon.
Awesome converted Rover, love it, looked so snug, adding the sink well worth it. Great to hear you're having a meet with Andy, look forward to both versions. Probably not my favourite ration pack to be honest but I'm sure it was nice. That hammock fits perfect, nice one thanks.
Cheers!
The ration pack was alright, not my favourite menu - I think it was the veggie option 😂
Nice car camping video., your land rover works out really good
Out doggin again nope think not!.
Only joking Simon great location with peaceful scenery as you said shame about traffic noise good to see Kent survival on board with a comment
Reminds me on the rare occasion I have to have a night out in the truck in work. No sink or shelves but I do have a night heater.. the rest is what I would carry in a rucksack. Happy days 🇬🇧🤘🚚
Excellent as usual what a lovely setup!
Definitely an excellent vid, love the interior design of the defender, really works and I would definitely prefer the hammock as a sleeping arrangement, so much better than a bed to mess about making up, looking forward to the next one
Love what you did with the Rover, total comfort 😉🤙🤙🤙
Great video Simon and thanks for some cool ideas for when I get my conversion going!
Cracking video mate been looking forward for the upload hopefully another video with Kent survival 👌
Love the earth magnet idea. Thanks, Simon. 👍🙂
Thank you for another great video
