Off-road Land Rover Woodland Camp. 4x4 Truck Camping. Roof Top Tent. Cheese Fondue. Kadai Fire Bowl

- In this video I head off to the woods in my Land Rover for an overnight camp in the roof tent and a bit of an unwind beneath the trees. Clearing and picking out a path through the trees, I make my way to a nice spot beside a giant Hornbeam tree and set up camp - awnings, pop-up roof tent, comfy chair, lanterns, fire pit, all the luxuries that I wouldn’t normally be able to take.
After camp is made, its time to collect firewood before cooking dinner - a decadent cheese fondue with wine to wash it down.
Needless to say, I slept like a log.
Morning brings the thereat of rain, so an early striking of camp before breakfast was in order. Croiffles and bacon are on the morning menu and then heading off just as the heavy rain comes in.
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching.

Hi folks and thanks for watching - just want to apologise for the audio in this video - still having issues since the Sweden/Norway trip. My camera is at the menders so hopefully normal sound quality will be restored soon!
Take care,
Simon
Sound is OK for me, nothing like cooking with fire, fondue my favourite!
Definitely can hear you cooking with fire 🔥 mate 🤩 no problems
Didn’t hear any problems
Cooking with fire.
Fabulous video, all my favourite cheeses.
Will definitely be trying your recipe.
Quick question, have you got a video out showing your awnings?
Trying to find or make one to go on the side of my horse trailer for when I go horse camping.
The scammers are still at it
I'm a 77yo woman, not a camping person but have been watching your channel. I have bought a trailer for my ebike and plan to camp next year just me, my bike and trailer. It's the idea of cooking outside over a fire....
Wish I had your guts!! I’m 65 and wouldn’t contemplate doing this…I see danger everywhere 😔
65 as well, I long to camp like this but yeah, it’s not a safe world out there! Too many scary sounds at night! 🤣 Good luck to you!
76 rural Canadian, lotta of camping in earlier years. I hope you have a great time.
Just when ya think you've seen it all. And suddenly, Fondue in camp. Sounds tasty.
Hi Simon. I discovered your channel about a year ago after contacting COVID. I had been in a coma for 3 weeks ICU for two months so still recovering and really looking forward to cooking with fire.
I'm sure I'm not the only person benefiting from videos like yours to get through tough times.
So thank you and keep up the good work.
This is the kind of camping you need to invite Andy to. It is easy peasy, no portage, near to the Land Rover, all he likes . It’s good to see you again mate.
i did actually laugh out loud when you opened the back door of your Landy. The same squeak/creak and my old one. Brings back some very fond memories and would have another one tomorrow if i could justify it.
Such an awesome vehicle, a tiny portable home on wheels. My dream that will stay a dream due to brain damage. Can't drive. Hopefully I'll meet someone, one day, who can drive and likes to go out on adventures that doesn't eventually complain we can't share the driving. The fondu looked lush and a great idea for a next outdoor cooking feast!
Hope your camera gets sorted without being too spendy Simon. Thank you for all the effort you go to in order for me to live vicariously through your fun and adventures. Best channel by miles, five out of five stars every time.
Dry bread dipped in themo-nuclear cheese and washed down with wine drunk from the bottle! You're a class act Simon. Hahahaha.
I love cooking with fire, it makes it more special than cooking at home.
Jealous of the defender setup with roof tent, love the fondue idea as a fellow 70s child! Cooking with fire.
I’m a good cook at home and in the wild, but never happier than when I’m ‘cooking with fire’. Keep the vlogs coming Simon, appreciate it.
Cooking with fire 👨🍳🔥
So my life changed a few years ago due to my health taking a turn for the worse and your channel has genuinely been a lifeline for me. I’m not able to get out and explore like I used to and living life through you gives me the strength and hope that one day I’ll get to enjoy some adventures of my own again and in the meantime there’s you 😊
It would make my life to win your competition 🎉and thanks for the opportunity 🙏 take care and thank you for all that you do. You spread more joy and hope than I think you realise 👏☮️🪵🔥
Ps…the hubby wants you to know we haven’t had an actual bbq in 4 veeeeeeery long years so this is as much for him as me🙏💚🙏😂😂
Gotta love a Wednesday evening! Brightens up the midweek blues. Watching Simon ‘cooking with fire’ … always a great watch! 👌
Awesome video Simon. The roof tent setup is great and cooking with fire is always the best. Thanks for the videos.
My wife may love the kitchen but I all for “Cooking with fire”!! Thank goodness my Mum lives in the UK!!
You do such a great job of filming. And your music always goes so well with it. I’ve just started to watch your videos and I appreciate your hard work and efforts with them. Love your channel. Sincerely from Minnesota, USA❤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥓🧇🪵🍂🍃🍁❤
I’m currently at uni but am originally a country boy who enjoys the outdoors. I love watching your videos as they remind me of the joys of ‘cooking with fire’ and just the general brilliance of being outdoors. Thank you
Beautifully said!
What a great set up. Thanks for all the effort you put into making these videos, they are a real treat each week. Yours and Andy's channels have got me back outdoors the last few years, and 'cooking with fire'!
“Cooking with Fire” is one of our favourite things!
Definitely "Cooking With Fire " and left me wanting fondue 🤤🤤🤤
Wonderful sounds and smells and tastes of autumn when you’re outdoors cooking with fire. Thanks for all the experiences and inspiration, Simon, especially in these strange times.
Hi Simon, great to see you 'cooking with fire' on the Kadai, and thanks for offering the chance to win one! Also love seeing the work your doing to the Land Rover - that bulkhead 😱 looked much like the Swiss cheese you cooked in your fondue!
Old Land Rovers & cooking with fire....life doesn’t get much better. 😊
Cooking with fire , it doesn’t get more peaceful than that ❤️
There’s nothing quite like cooking with fire surrounded by the autumn colours! Thanks for another great video Simon!
And on the conveyer belt tonight... A fondue set.. Cooking with fire.. A Cuddly Toy.
What, precisely, is your dissatisfaction?
Have come back to your videos after a year or so away - plenty to catch up on! Reasurring to see you busting out the same kit that I remember and good to see you...cooking with fire! Good to see you well, all the best, Paul
Used to love a family fondue when I was younger chopped meat mushrooms veg cheese oil cooked in the oil. Miss those days x
Another fabulous adventure, Simon. I just love your exploits whether by canoe, on foot or in Landy. Solo or with Andy, bivi bags, bushcraft, stoves or just ‘cooking with fire!’ Thank you for all the time you clearly put into your filming to bring us along.
It’s good to see the Land Rover back in service. Having owned vintage British cars, I know the challenge of finding parts. However, there is just something special about British engineering that makes the effort worthwhile. Thanks again for letting us tag along on your adventures.
Wild camping, cooking with fire and drinking red wine is my favourite pastime !
Many happy memories I've made, camping with friends and family. "Cooking with fire", always reminds me of these too.
Hey Simon your production is spot on, it must take ages to set up all the shots for us to enjoy. Thank you for sharing these adventures. Cooking with fire in the woods nothing better.
I was thinking the same, especially on the way in, and the van passed over the camera. Also, when going to bed, I assume Simon then had to get back out and put the camera away. Too much hard work for me, but boy does it pay off here.
I wonder if hes got the camera set to go off automatically as it seems a right pain putting your boots back on, down the ladder etc. and with a whole bottle of vino in him, he'd be knackered
Love that old Landrover of yours! Love the way you have it set up, well thought out Simon! Always good to hear from you and your adventures!
Who doesn’t enjoy cooking with fire , another cracking vid and the land rover has morphed 😁
Warm white wine by an open fire....man after my own heart.😁
Now that's COOKING WITH FIRE! Loved that campfire fondue, had my mouth watering 😍 great vid as always!
Enjoying watching you cooking with fire as usual, Simon. I'm sure I'm not the only one who watches your channel for the recipe inspiration almost as much as the adventure inspiration! Great channel, thanks for your efforts.
Cooking with fire 🔥 🔥 🔥
Cooking with fire definately the way to go....Love this video and the beautiful Hornbeam tree what a beauty.Hopefully the Landi conversion will tempt Mrs in the Woods to join you.🥰 sometime
Love the cooking with fire. Posh eating but drinking like a wino
Thank you for the continued inspiration for my young boys Simon - we all love #cookingwithfire! Keep up the great work!
Great video Simon, its amazing how good your editing skills are. Just looking at you cutting the fallen tree at the start is a work of art! Definitely “cooking with fire”!
Cooking with fire . My 4 year old son and I enjoy your videos. Love to croissants the waffle iron.
I adore cooking with fire. Even better with the Landy in the background
Great evening Simon, really inspired by the fondue! I'm very impressed with the work done on the land rover - the bulkhead must have been a big job. Thanks for sharing another adventure with us, you can't beat cooking with fire and a relaxing evening afterwards.
Another great video Simon. Cooking with fire makes Autumn wildcamps so much more pleasurable.
Hi Simon ,
I love 'cooking with fire' I think food tastes so much better, especially after a trek and prepping camp, another great video by the way 👍🏻
Simons dry log, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that 🤣🤣 sorry Simon I'm such a child, I hope you, family, Maggie are doing fantastic love what you do and I love you thankyou for reminding that home isn't just where the heart is it's also the woods xx
Cooking with fire! Man I just love how everything has its place within your set up so far. I’m not far from you so if you ever need a camera man to save you some time then give me a shout. I’d love to get out and help. Thanks man
It’s hard to beat “cooking with fire” in the woods, great video Simon, very entertaining!
Another wonderful adventure you've invited us all along to Simon such a beautiful place to spend the night chilling while "cooking with fire" what more could anyone want perrrrfect thanks for all the hard work you must have to put into making these adventures but you make it look so easy looking forward to the next one oce again thanks Simon
Can’t beat cooking with fire 🔥 ❤
I love cooking with fire ,it adds a different dimension to your food that you just can’t recreate with conventional cooking methods
Cooking with fire! As always, my go to channel for a relaxing escape and education. Thank you Simon.
Great video Simon. Autumn is my favourite season of all. The lovely colours of the leaves, the frosty crisp mornings, and the amazing colours in the sky we get at this time of year. Also, there's nothing better than cooking with fire outside during Autumn then turning the 'cooker' into a firepit to keep you warm once it gets dark. Perfect!
Love what you have done with the Landy cooking with fire 🔥 sure looked tasty too
Really enjoyed this one, thanks Simon
See these eyes, so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Just be still with me
You wouldn't believe what I've been through
You've been so long
Well, it's been so long
And I've been cooking with fire not gasoline
Cooking with fire not gasoline
Cooking with fire! Always love your videos Simon, nothing better than a night in the woods cooking food. Love the way you adapt things, like your hanging kitchen and drop down cooker shelf, great idea👍
Brilliant camp Simon, looked like a very relaxing stay (apart from all the camera work required!). Those croisaffles and bacon looked pretty good too. Love the rooftop tent. The crackle of the camp TV and a glass or two of wine, listening to the owls...magic!
Who doesn't love cooking with fire. Thanks Simon
Back bacon should look like that streaky bacon should be WELL done and CRISPY but either way looked banging so props to you💯you're camp Cooks look better than a lot of homemade meals I've had at pals houses🤣
There's nothing like cooking with fire on a lovely Autumn evening! Cracking video again Simon👍🏼
Cooking with fire is one of the elemental joys that makes wild camping so fantastic. Another great video, Simon. (Autumn is my favourite time of year!)
Cooking with fire. We enjoy watching your adventures
Sat in brew room on nightshift watching you cooking with fire and drinking wine and wishing I was doing the same. Another brilliant video
Hi Simon, another great video love watching build fires in the wood and cooking some amazing food outdoors, I keep having the argument with the wife cooking on fire is far better than cooking on gas 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have been 100% focused on ways to cook independently from the grid recently! I have a chiminea, but I also have a tripod and really want a firepit so that I can use it with the tripod! So, I say cooking with fire is definitely the way to go! 😂
Thanks for your videos, they are much appreciated, and I do hope you manage to get your wife out camping with you!
Ahhh, cooking with fire. I remember using one of these bowls on the shores of Lomond a few years ago. Cooked a huge curry! I then recall drying off in front of it after a late night wild swim. Happy memories indeed!
Cooking With Fire, and a Landie, what's not to like. Keep up the good work Simon.
Cooking with fire and a spit roast Best thing ever
Great video "Mcgyver in the Woods" you've made me the greatest Dad in the world a few weeks ago when I took my 8yr and 10yr daughters wild camping, and in the morning...cooking with fire...I made croffles, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast 😋
You live like a king when out camping cooking with fire. The Land Rover looks such a cosy space alongside the roof tent. 😊👍👍
I Love “ cooking with fire”
It’s pretty much all I do when I have the chance.
Love your videos as always
Cooking with fire can never be beaten! Best cooked steaks!
Fancy forgetting the corkscrew - should be part of every woodsman’s EDC. Great to see you back from your Scandi adventure. More Cooking with fire in the English woods please.
There are 2 other purposes for the fire beads, 1.) Keeps the ground and any dry mats on the ground from being exposed to high temps as you can really get a rager going in them as you well know Simon. 2.) They allow for air to semi-flow under the fire. 3.) Should it be raining the beads allow the water to flow down and away from the wood allowing the fire to keep going drying and evaporating the moisture out of the bottom and the beads.
When you go 'cooking with fire' a cheese fondue tastes so much better especially when you have a bottle of white to go with it !! 👍🍷
Another great production and who doesn’t enjoy cooking with fire. Always learn something new. Many thanks for living my adventure.
Me and my wife love watching your videos especially when your "cooking with fire" and all the other things that you get up to
Cooking with fire!! I'm in the USA but my love is in Scotland and he'd love this so I'm entering for him to win because he won't enter but is a huge fan as well, actually suggested your channel to me and I've never been disappointed - love your videos Simon ❤️

Nothing better than cooking with fire in the wild. Nicely set up Defender.
Everthing tastes better outside! Cooking With Fire.
Cooking with fire is probably cheaper than firing up the cooker at home these days! Another fantastic video 👍
Nothing beats the taste of cooking with fire. This looked very tasty.
I bob my head going in, and I bob my head going out. Really like your content, the head bobbing music isn't bad either.
Cooking with fire. Another great video Simon, thanks
Cooking with fire. And I am so jealous of your two awnings. They make the outdoors very bearable at times, almost home from home.
Great to see the Land Rover back up and running, you've done a great job kitting it out!. What a sophisticated camp!, cheese fondue and white wine! but still cooking with fire. Entertaining vid, keep up the good work.
My husband has been a fan for quite sometime. The defender is looking awesome. Cooking with fire 🔥!!
