This was in 2003. The original RUclips video which made Russel famous also took place in 2003. He was on the same tour, thus the same jokes. They come up with jokes, do tours, go dark for a while, and come up with some new jokes. It's how comedians work. It's how musicians work too.

This was in 2003, where there wasn't really any social media or youtube at all. The only time he used this joke again was a year later in those youtube famous clips of his shows. To add to that, comedians aren't supposed to have new material LITERALLY EVERY NEW SHOW. That would be impossible.

I'm a Brit and I loved it when I saw an Indian running a convenience store in California....for like 2 seconds. Soon as I went to buy some beer he asked for ID, well I'm a tourist on holiday so I pull out my passport, he looks at it shakes his head and says what I'm guessing are the only 4 words he knows in English 'California driving license only' cause I'm showing him my passport, my british driving license my photo ID card and all he says every time is 'California driving license only'.
So I'm like fine, I'm just gonna screw with him, I go out to the car and get my girlfriend to come in who IS from California and HAS a California driving license BUT is not old enough to buy beer, we show him her ID.. HE LETS US BUY IT!!

Indians were taken as slaves to a lot of places not just south Africa. Its a surprise people don't know that South Asians also were sold as slaves. Earlier they were sold by Muslim rulers in India and later the European colonisers. Indians can do intense labour. Most of Indians do jobs that involve intense labour like agriculture, pastoralism is still practiced by many communities, construction site labour etc.
@S S well read some history. Indians were taken as slaves to South Africa and that was actually in recent history. Indians were sold as slaves since early medieval times.
@S S what do you mean paid salary. Those salaries were taken from our people. The money was "looted" from Indians. Wtf you mean they were paid. Well go read about tea plantations and Indians who were left behind in South east Asian countries when Japanese attacked and British only rescued their "own" people while they pretended to be the government of Indians as well and argued Indians weren't capable of ruling themselves. It wasn't a government, they were thieves who ruled systematically. I think I can't really suggest you any specific reading because you need atleast a base for that which you clearly don't have so I suggest please start with basic readings. During early medieval and medieval times as well Indians were sold as slaves to West Asian countries and Europeans by Muslim rulers then. During British rule the Labour done by Indians was barely well paid even in the police forces and the army let alone any other job. Everytime the British hired Indians for campaigns and plantation outside india they were used as slaves in plantation and in times of distress they were left behind to die. There are letters of Indians stuck outside India and how they were treated and how the British left them behind.

But Russell does his comedy bits with full acting & drama! That really lights up the scene for me. Rodney was just talking as though outta a script or sheet. Nowhere near the same impact or naturalness one feels. Russell’s feels like he’s talking to you, chatting with you, all natural mannerisms supporting that. Rodney’s wasn’t quite the same.

Fun Fact, Gandhi went to South Africa to study law, when he was there, he saw Indians being discriminated against by White folks in South Africa, so that's when he decided to complete his studies in South Africa, and go back to India to start an independence movement.
