I once worked with a Canadian, first things he purchased for the office: a barbecue and a TV. Well, he helped me understand that life is also about having a good time with people around you.

Both my parents are foreign from Asia and South America and I'm a first generation Canadian and proud.
This reminds me of when I was kid how my parents despite being from other countries they tried their best to adapt to North American culture in every way.
My asian dad used to try and teach me how to play hockey and baseball and introduced me to things like corn dogs and spam (we were poor growing up) and my mom used to make Candy apples and used to use maple syrup on every dessert we had.

I love when people can make fun of their own culture. It's heartwarming, and it brings people together. Except when he made fun of bland, boiled potatoes. As a Dane, I find that to be an utterly intolerable insult. What's next, you monster? Mocking our similarly bland meatballs? :)

There was an Indian guy with a push cart near where I did my internship at UMBC in Baltimore. I'd have to walk around to find where he was that day but his cart-food was so good. I could smell it from blocks away. In that whole summer, he never said a single word to me.

@@Psydestr Canadian's do! Many provinces have very short summers, and bq is a fast method of cooking with little clean up, with the benefit of being delicious. We pull our bq to the patio door in the winter and dig it out after every snow fall. Where I live in Ontario, we loose electricity frequently due to storms, so the bq is pretty handy.
