  • This video will show you how I repaired the failed air conditioning on my golf that had no compressor pressure on the gauges. it requires the replacement of the drive clutch. Gauges not essential as the fault is visible by eye. Hope this is helpful to you. parts are available on eBay and amazon search 'Air Conditioning Compressor Repair A/C Delphi Clutch 5N0820803 For Seat Skoda VW'

    The centre bolt that goes through the clutch and into the splined shaft is sheared in mine, i think I'll resort to replacing full compressor with a used unit. I enjoyed the video, and it gave me a better insight as to the make-up of the mechanics. Many thanks. 👍

    The Mk6 golf doesn't have a clutch pulley. It rotates all the time and the power used by the compressor is varied by the valve on the rear of the compressor. The pulley incorporates a mechanical 'fuse' , which is the aluminum splined part which wears quickly if the compressor jams to prevent compressor failure making the car undriveable. I got caught out and really confused by it first time I saw it. It's why the pulley has no electrical connection like the earlier (Mk4 and before) ones have.

    Well, after watching this video, i must say " well done to Alan Clarke for sharing and a bit of advise he gave me".
    I did have a slight problem while trying to get one of the torx bolts off it was really on tight and i had stripped it while trying, but after buying a few tools, i had used a dremel metal cutter to put a line through the screw which gave me enough to put a flat head screw driver in to it and gave me enough to finally turn it. All done now and working perfectly and once again thanks to Alan Clarke for sharing 😉👍🏻

    Just wanted to say a massive thanks. I am a proud owner of Golf MK 5 and have not had AC since I got the car. After a year I found out at a garage that I have 10kg worth of AC gas (which they said was too much) and no leaks. I have taken a guess after seeing this video and bought the replacement part. As I was taking my car apart as instructed on the video I came across a middle bolt that wouldn't unscrew and only under pressure while using 3 flat heads to support and hold the part. 1 of the 3 smaller screws had its head messed up, so I used a slightly bigger bit and used a hammer by tapping gently to create a new shape which then allowed me too unscrew. I noticed after taking out the old part that the teeth inside the circle were absolutely gone and the surface was flat. After exchanging the part my AC started working and not only... I had some issues with the way the engine was sounding didn't affect anything else, like an additional sound to it, but again nothing wrong with the car. I imagine that while the engine was turned on the compressor part that was missing it's teeth must have affected it in some way since it was a slight fast tapping ? The important part is the noise is gone and the video has helped a lot since this was the first time I was working so closely to compressor. Trust me here I'm green when it comes to Mechanics but I sure am handy since everything is still okay and the car has been mine a year. Thanks again for the a good video !

  • @MeAndMyself011

    Do you know what would cause the following symptoms in a 2012 VW Golf 6?
    -when the AC is set on cold, it blows hot air; when it is set on hot, it blows cold air
    -even on the highest power setting, although you can hear the sound, not too much air comes through the vents (the air filter is new)
    - when changing the settings as to the location (for example feet, or directed to the windshield), even less air comes out of the vents- one setting works best.
    -while rotating the temperature button you can hear the difference of inflow
    I need to mention thatt the car was a right hand drive and this year was changed to left. The mechanic that did it said that the AC unit needs to be one for left hand drive cars otherwise it won’t work. Is he telling the truth? I’ve had many problems with the car since. Unfortunately it was a mistake but now I am trying to fix as much as I can.

    My clutch spins when the ac is off and on. Is this correct? Need to decide if its a clutch or solenoid problem.
    TIA

    • @alanclarke888
      @alanclarke888  3 года назад +3

      Hi TIA
      Mine did too but the centre bolt was sticking out and so stopped connection to the compressor shaft. The unit runs all the time with the solenoid bringing the circuit in or out depending on demand so just check that bolt, if it’s tight and all the way in then this is not likely to be the fix but loose and protruding then it should be

    If the ambient PSI fell bellow the static temperature, would inversion still apply?

    • @alanclarke888
      @alanclarke888  5 лет назад

      Hi, not sure I understand the question, not an air con expert afraid, what I understood is that with R134 if the static pressure was generally equal to ambient temp then the unit would hold sufficient refrigerant for the system to operate. If the static pressure was below temp then this would suggest low refrigerant and this could cause the system to fail to switch on or cool adequately. As my readings were equal I could eliminate low refrigerant as an issue. Thanks

    • @berndp3426
      @berndp3426 4 года назад

      probably requires unmounting of the compressor. since you have to drill these screws out or try to turn them using toothed pliers (if it works from this position, but if not, that thing must be unmounted entirely by all means to change the clutch. If the toothed center axle is no longer toothed, (because this wears off indeed!) the whole wheel + clutch has to be replaced.

      I have to agree with Bernd P that removal of the unit and drilling is likely to be your only option. you coould try using an air grinder to cut the head off the centre bolt, remove the pulley and work on that on bench. The headless centre screw is likely to come out with mole-grips once you can hold the air compressor shaft

      Once the new part arrives I'll take it to the garage and get them to fit it. I'm sure theyll have all the tools to sort it out...and a ramp for better access! Why oh why use torx screws VW 😑

I successfully dismantled all 3 outer screws(one was dismantled by using screw extractor and electric tool/hand drill). but the center bolt cannot be dismantled even by using electric hand drill! i think it may mean the compressor is seized( locked up) inside. center bolt should be unscrewed in counter clockwise,right?

    Not a mechanic but couldn't you have put 12V on the wires of the compressor/clutch? I think this would clamp everything together. With the belt still in place this would prevent the shaft from spinning giving you the opportunity to loosen the bolt.
    Just searching for a solution for my Touran but it doesn't seem to have a clutch.

    • @alanclarke888
      @alanclarke888  15 дней назад

      Hi there. It isn’t a clutch on this drive, the pulley is always driving the shaft but a valve at the back engages or disengages the pump, the part acts a bit like a tvd pulley just taking the shock out of the drive when the compressor comes on and off load, hope that makes sense I am not a mechanic either just play about In my garage to save a few quid
