  • I have this daily driver Seat Altea XL, now when the temperature went up I noticed the AC is not working, I first suspected loss of AC gas, this was not the case, after some searching I found out that the pulley on the AC pump's on VAG car's often fail, the AC pump is basically okay but the VW dealer will only replace the pump which is very expensive. I found this pulley available through Ebay and ordered the part which recently arrived!
    I am trying to imrove the quality of my video's thanks for watching, liking, sharing and subscribing is highly appreciated!

    Ive just bought a 2009 Skoda Octavia 1.9 PD TDI elegance model.The guy i bought it off said he wad quoted 2K to fix it!Ive just had a look in the engine bay at the AC compressor and i can see that bolt sticking out.Squeezed my hand down to try turn that bolt but its not moving.I then started the engine and the pulleys roatating.I think i read some where these pulleys constantly turn despite AC switch being off in the car.Im sure this pulleys teeth have sheered off as bolt has loosened over the years.I ran a Vagcom scan on the AC and no faults found.This makes sense as the pulley is mechanical and not detectable.Great video.Wish i had a big in door space to work in like that.

    At any point did you heard any weird noise when turned the AC on ? I had a leaking on my AC system wich I could fix but I now can hear a noise when turning the compressor on the AC is cooling but not even closer to the normal ways that it used to work so I was wondering if that can be the reason I was also thinking if can be missing oil inside the comprossor some how but if there’s coolant inside the system there’s also oil on the compressor right? 🤔 thanks for the nice video

    I’m looking for a solution for a seized pump which has then snapped the belt from friction - do you have any thoughts? Initially thought of removing the pump and using a smaller belt from just the engine to the alternator but I wonder if there’s a way to make the pulley rotate even if not driving the a AC? Almost need one of those pulleys without the splines!

      Hmm tough one, hoe about gutting the pump so it is able to freewheel?

    Hello,
    Thank you for your video.
    It means that the pulley and therefore the compressor is still driven by the belt because the part you change is fixed by the 3 screws?
    So there is no clutch on this compressor?
    Thank you

    • @tmdrtn
      @tmdrtn  2 года назад +1

      Hello, that is correct there's no clutch on this version. The compressor is always driven by the belt. A valve in the cooling system controls the amount of coolant going through the system, this is controlled with the af panel in the car.

      Thank you.
      So it's normal for my compressor to run all the time.
      My air conditioning is working fine, I am currently looking for a problem that I have on my car at engine idle. Indeed the engine produces important jerks which can be felt in the seat when the air conditioning is turned off.
      I thought that this could come from that (compressor still driven even when the air conditioning is off) because when I turn on the air conditioning the problem disappears, but I think that it comes from the ECU.
      In fact, this problem is known and many forums talk about it.
      There are 2 solutions, either modify the engine speed, or increase the quantity of diesel at idle which is slightly too low I think 0.6 liter per hour.
      I will test this in the next weeks, the time to go to see a friend who has VagCom.
      Thank you from Toulouse in France.

    Hi there, before this fix was your AC still cold at higher rpm? Or was it hot in both idle and high rpm?
    Thankyou.

    • @tmdrtn
      @tmdrtn  2 года назад +1

      Hello, mine was not cooling either in idle or high rpm, but I can imagine that it could be possible in some cases just not mine, another cause for insufficient cooling can be a leak in the system.

      I have a problem with AC on a passat b6 and I have insuficient cold, at higher rpm i saw a better pressure and a lower temperature.

    Hi mate - not sure if you're replying to comments at this point. I have this same issue with my Audi A3, one of my symptoms is also a bit of a rattle when the air con is on though. The air con still turns on but just doesn't get cold, I noticed the rattle got a bit worse over time before the system just didn't get cold. Did you notice any noise from the car with this issue or was is still silent?

      Hello alive and still responding! It can be some noise, I didn't have any noise though! But as you saw, it was pretty easy to check if the AC compressor is toast or not . Good luck!
