In the video Meinl artist Mike Johnston demos a set of Byzance Extra Dry Dual cymbals: 15" Dual Hihat 18" Dual Crash 22" Dual Crash-Ride 20" Dual Crash-Ride meinlcymbals.co...
Wes Jones Oh, I thought you meant in person lessons, not over a computer screen. But props to you, $20 is pretty cheap considering Mike Johnston's reputation as a drummer.
thanks bud, but honestly, its just like being in person. His live lessons are interactive. You can talk with them as they giving the lesson. Think of it like a massive skype session, only with great equipment. There is also a student review section where you can upload videos of yourself for Mike and other students to comment on for help and improvements. You should check it out if you're interested.
Proud owner of a 20" dual crash ride. If only they could cost a little less I'd get the whole set! (little suggestion: what about a dual 20" china? I'd sell a kidney for one)
iDrumLikeCrazy I was gonna comment on how great both of these crash cymbals sound. But I'd still bet that if you were to put your version of these 2 crashes up against the 2 identical models in the video, there's going to be at least a slightly noticeable difference in sound or pitch or dryness. Maybe they can make all stamped cymbals sound alike within the same model/size, but as soon as you add a human touch to the manufacturing process, there will be some inconsistencies in sound from 1 cymbal to the next. That's not to say that they won't sound good though...
The right crash is awesome. However I will say mike johnston makes all the cymbals in all his videos sound really good. If you are a heavy hitter or play really loud rock music..... I would go with the dry stuff.
I'm in the middle of choosing to buy an 18" dual extra dry crash and an extra dry thin crash and a byzance trash crash. Which should I get at 18" and which at 16"?? I've got no place to try them out close to my area
im trying to use the dual and the extra dry thin crash as my mains and the trash crash as as effect. maybe stack the trash crash on the extra dry thin crash to make a stack occasionally
I have to hand it to you guys for producing a sound that really distinguishes you from the competition.
I'm proud to say that Mike Johnston is my drum instructor! He is an outstanding teacher.
Lucky bastard!
Wes Jones so lessons go at $2000 a month?
No, check out Mikeslessons.com, you'll learn everything you need to know. Live lessons are $20 a month :D

Mike Johnston is an insane drummer.
Love these cymbals, especially the 22" crash/ride; but oh my gosh the sound of that floor Tom is AMAZING

How do you like it do you still have it? How’s it held up
Your wish has been granted
Check put dream darl matter cymbals they sound similar just not as good way affordable though
These sound absolutely delectable. I love 'em! Thanks, Meinl!
Meinl's best cymbals. Period.
Cymbals.... hell, I'm gushing over those drums. That floor is wicked deep and decays for days.
+Jason Cavitt They're the perfect match of mushy and resonant and tonal.
these have got to be my new favorite cymbal series
i think meinl is the only cymbal company that can make cymbals this dry!! Awesome job guys!
Well done my good sir! Sounded awesome. (cymbals, drums, and playing.....and the engineer)
Oh my god! These cymbals sound amazing!
Meinl, you know the natural progression would be 17" Dual Hats? just keeping you boys on your toes.
I have the 18" and it's killing. Gonna use it in my next cover! Thanks MEINL!
OMG these are prefect cymbals
Meinl should include some water when you buy an extra dry cymbal
Are you Wim's son?
Real MEN play it RAW
I'm definitely getting the 18"
These cymbals are as dry as California
Naw man Nevada
The best meinl cymbals!!
Dammit these sound so good
I love those Hi-hats!
i love the sound of the crash on the very right
Beautiful sound.
I use both the 18" and 20" crashes when I'm feeling dark and dry. They are amazing. So unique, and beautiful too!!

This video is so much better when watched at 1.5 speed.
you're welcome...
Mike!!! 😲Nasty!!!👍🙂‼️
sounds great!
Im curious why he wasn't playing his signature 21" ride? Its in the same cymbal "family"...🤔
Don't know if I like the combination of the quite wet drum sound and the dry cymbals.
I'll decide for you that you do like it
this is so dry i got thirsty ...
I would LOVE an 18, 19 crash and a 13" hi hat in this!
this man is a beast like what the fuck
The right crash is awesome. However I will say mike johnston makes all the cymbals in all his videos sound really good. If you are a heavy hitter or play really loud rock music..... I would go with the dry stuff.
Which is the weight of the 22" crash-ride?
Okay but his drum sound. Dang.

Which genre.. what do you want to use them for? As maincrash og as an effect cymbal?
im trying to use the dual and the extra dry thin crash as my mains and the trash crash as as effect. maybe stack the trash crash on the extra dry thin crash to make a stack occasionally
Okay.. You can use the dual as a dark attacks main crash, but the extra dry thin crash, will be hard to hear in the mix.. in comparison to the dual.
That ride sounds like sex...
Wong Music Then maybe you should use a little more lube... it's somewhat dry.
Jason Cavitt I find it more exciting without.
+Martin Huynh Bite the pillow Martin is going in dry!!!
who does he play for? try traditional for jazz for starters.
Love the crashes and ride but the hi hats just seen mad thin.
brillianr
15 inch hats! Do they come in 14 inch?
no they dont
How much???
To be honest he’s a beast at groove but sometimes we just need a basic lame beat for cymbal demo lol
Keith Carlock, is that you???
I like everything except the hats. I like my hats to be extra razor thin and bright. But overall very nice.
More crash than ride. And the bells are not audible. But as crash, they are hot and reactive.
Drums are way too loud in the mix.
1:55 yo wtf
Fuck, that was tasty.
like the smooth approach...that hihat has a nice loud chick.
Its just soooo tasty.....
I like Mike Johnston but I dislike his socalled "groove"...
Lorenz Müller that's ridiculous! you might as well be a Christian and hate Jesus.
These cymbals sound so trashy, I've never gotten the appeal to them, and why just about every drummer plays them nowadays.
To be honest the dry sound is an acquired taste, like beer.
Great sound but I hate the way they look
great cymbals, good drummer, bad drumset sound
Great drumset sound *
