We need to start a dialogue guys, is MS Paints the GOAT of miniature wargaming content? I don't even do wargaming lol, my brother does. I bought a combat patrol of Eldar to paint and display just for something new to do. But every video on this channel I've watched at least twice. I think it's just refreshing to see someone take pride in their work, especially here on the youtubes.
I'm old enough to have made much of this the first time around. It's really refreshing to see bright, vivid colours instead of all the currently favoured gloom and adding twelve colours to every grey surface. There's room for a bit of joy in the hobby. Great video.
As a side note, if everyone put the same level of effort into their sponsorship messages as you do, I would spend infinitely less time hammering the bottom right corner of my keyboard!
I like that you take pauses to let what’s happening breathe. I’m tired of other RUclipsrs non-stop talking. I want to be able to take in what you’re doing. Fantastic video sir!
@@suddenlysarablog I'm American too, no worries. 99% sure it's a reference to Jeremy of Black Magic Craft who most folks credit for popularizing the black paint/mod-podge combo.
I remember that book! It was the first terrain book I ever bought, and it was a great start! I still have my old copy somewhere, with a lot of notes stuck in the margins. I really like how you show the simple way to do things. I see some videos that seem to go overboard, like "How to paint Tau feet in 13 easy steps" and I'm like, "Dude, their feet are only 1/8 of an inch across!" Please keep up the awesome videos and Tony in perpetual forward motion!
Dude. That flock base and cardboard bases is peak 90s terrain building. And that rollout static grass mat? Absolute terror for mess and tearing. But it was a must have. Thanks for the video mate! I need to look into those printable building designs! Big loves 🤘😎🔥
Just seeing that book slide out is such a surge of happy nostalgia. I still have my copy and started working on some toothpick cactii and sci fi pyramids lately.
Now that was extremely nostalgic to watch, so much so it almost hurts... I never owned that red book but I do still have to second version of it, the blue one.
This is honestly my Favourite video you've ever made Dave! This and your previous one about the LOTRs SBG. Honestly some of my favourite content mate. I own the wargames terrain book that came after the Red bible. It is just as good, maybe a little more advanced to the red one.
100% here for old world stuff, great video and keep it up!! My favourite video for a while dude, just resonates nostalgia and the board looks the part! The quality and style of your videos in unparalleled to any other miniature creator I believe. You’ve got your own style and take on everything. Brilliant craftmanship. That’s Enough smoke up your arse for now;) 😂
Glad the next video up brought me this. I was watching some old BMC vidoes when this came up. Was surprised it was such a new video. Will need to remember that masking tape trick.
that was lovelly! and thank you for the printer suggestion, would love to see an updated version of one of those scenics with today's tecniques, painting rocks blending with the background and using more varied sands and tufts, just to see how we could still have 90's tacniques and ideology of "keep it easy and cheap" but with the 2020's esthetic
@@MSPaints What song is it, if you don't mind me asking? I feel I need it to help me accomplish stuff :) And fantastic video as always - so much 90's GW nostalgia seeing the book and your finished pieces!

The good old 'Bottle Brush Trees' you can get them from K&M trees part of JAVIS. A little old trick for any bases made of card is to layer the base (Bottom) with the brown plasticy parcel tape as it doesn't stretch it keeps it all level. Bloody brilliant though a blast from the past.
Absolute banger of a video! Really enjoyed this one. The vibes were good and it was lovely seeing all of that classic terrain on a table. Also, shot of you painting the river whilst Hector completes his work of art was chef's kiss! How much did he make off of his painting?
Classic looking table and such a nostalgic trip :) Those Dave Graffam card building come up pretty schmick ey! Printed of a bunch myself and they work a treat and look great. Planning to print a bunch of his ruined buildings for Mordheim next.
I've got a ton of those cardboard terrain pieces (from the same makers you got them from), I really should print some out and do some more up. I've done both sci-fi and fantasy ones, and it's actually kind of a pleasant evening, putting some movies or whatever on in the background and gluing some cardboard stuff together. Top tip: you can use a colored marker (black, brown, or gray, depending on what you're putting together) over the "white" edges before you glue everything together, so they don't stand out so much.
Hector is always welcome for some donuts and Twin Peaks as long as he's painting me one of these masterpieces. Also love the build. Always saw the book in our hobby store but could not get myself to save up some of my pocket money for it. Great to see RUclipsrs explore it. Pleasant shot of nostalgia.
I swear last week i found my copy of the WARGAMES TERRAIN book from when i was a wee lad, and it was in Mint Condition no less 🤩 So funny you make a video about this stuff just now.
Love Fat Dragon games, both their paper and 3D printed terrain is easy to make and looks great. Pro tip: use a dark colour texture on the raw edges of the card terrain to blend them in :)
Really, really great job lad. This is one of my favourite videos and builds you've done. Excellent editing as per, you pace your videos really well and the narration always comes through as sincere. That eclectic mix of things really embodies the DIY vibe of the 90's. Fond memories. Got me wanting to knock out some goblin green base rims now.
There's definitely something refreshing about a battlescape in bright green - made me all nostalgic for that 90's Warhammer vibe. Might have to dig my old Citadel grass mat out...
(mobster voice) " give him the old Sneaky Jeremy..." *Muffled screaming sounds off screen* Old Skool Feels aplenty, lovely stuff. So much green on the ground plane. I can only assume The Old World pre blowing up was, canonically, Magic Ireland. Makes sense.
It is funny that with better skills, even this old school stuff can look coherent and good. I like it a lot. My old stuff is from this time but with lacking skills back then, it looked kinda horrible. Proportion, design, composition etc. make up a lot, as well as feel for small details 🤩
This is beyond awesome and a great nostalgia trip!! I hope you want to share which battle mat that is specifically? I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants it for nostalgic reasons! ;)
That was a marvellous blast from the past! with scenery I'm often torn between the geographer in me wanting realism and the nostalgia of the old days. I'm aalso a big fan of the Dave Graffam card models - I love building houses from foamcore, but it's just so time consuming in comparison.
I just started my Terrain Journey, but picking up that SAME EXACT Terrain book up at a thrift shop, here in america called Value Village, and started by making my own 90's style warhammer board. It really is a big magical red book,
Easy way to take cardstock/paper terrain to the next level is to take a black sharpie to all the edges of the pieces after youve cut them out. Hides all the white paper edges and completes the illusion.
Looks sooooo good ❤ i was lucky ebough to get the red book cheap and in very good condition from ebay. It's an awesome tome of knowledge for someone who was a little lad in the 90s and 2000s and mom and dad did not let him get into this sort of stuff ^^
Got a new sub from me..... Man i made all of that stuff , then took my box to a new hobby shop, when i first move to this place. As my apartment was to small. Then the car broke and the guy told me my stuff would be safe.... ( He lied) 😮. A week later my stuff, ( and my dragons and a few high elf models that were in the display case to get painting jobs) the shop and all were gone, he took it all and moved away. Not just my stuff though. The terrain while sad i can remake... My minis though, now days sell for 500 or more to replace , those make me cry. None the less, thank you for inspiring me to remake those peices, ( just wish i had those books back.)
