AUDIO ISSUE! Hey folks, massive apologises for the loud and rough audio at the beginning. Been trying to fix it all day. Ive I r the best I can, learned a lot and hopefully the next vid will be far better. Sorry
I started a Viking raiding party for Lion Rampant using Victrix models. I found them easy to build as the bodies are 1 pce. Needed about 50 models for the army got carried away & purchased nearly 240. 😂
"The beacons are lit! Peachy has a new video!" I recently found BOXES of LOTR minis I bought to teach my niece and nephew to paint, back when I worked for GW 20 years ago. so many are primed and untouched, so I've been putting some work into them. What I've seen so far of the new models, I really do love. That said.... These Victrix models look really good - as do most of their models. Because of you, Peachy, I have many many boxes of historicals for kitbashing already! I just might add these to my pile! Great video, as always!
THANK YOU, PEACHY! I also spin stories about my little guys on the battlefield. I still have a traitor guard model from Rogue Trader, that in one game killed 2 Deathwing terminators in close combat. I painted some laurel on his shoulder pad and he was allowed to retire at the height of his glory!
Came for the comparison, stayed for the theraputic painting, left with ideas for using Victrix Hoplites. Thanks Mr Peach, adding Victrix Greeks to my shopping list.
Interesting breakdown and paint guide. I think the Victrix guys do a great job as standins, the ones in armour look more like Royal Guard and the unarmoured standard Rohan warriors.
Mixing some those Saxon parts with the old Rohan models gave me some awesome looking traitors for lord Thorne to lead. Also used the unarmored Saxons and rus to make wildmen . ( make sense lord Thorne helped arm wulfs army )
I would argue that Games Workshop USED TO make the best toy soldiers. Around 2012 they were at the top of their game. Since then, their models have become more monopose yet more complicated, more fiddly and fragile, and more difficult to transport and store. The stuff from Victrix, Wargames Atlantic, Anvil Industry, North Star etc. is much more fun to build, convert, paint, and play with.
Yeah, I have an extensive Barbarian themed army, built using a mix of Frostgrave and Gripping Beast plastics and metals from all over the place, and a vaguely chaosish army using Warlord Games Germanic tribesmen, Frostgrave Gnolls and whatever else took my fancy. Consistent colour choices and basing help sell the idea of an army even if you're using historicals that are supposed to be a thousand years apart.
i think what is not discussed enough is how desensitised we are to anything that is space marine. at this point its either you are addicted to anything space marine or just turned off at the sight of them.
I love a good sise comparison video. It saves the tears when you buy a kit radically out of scale. I really liked your Ratling video as well. It's great to see what other miniatures are avaliable. Thank you.
thanks Pete, tbf i often get frustrated not knowing the sizes of stuff next to similiar companie ranges etc...so if i can at least help with some of that...big box tick from me. much love Peachy
It's crazy that the price is so similar in the UK. Here in NZ the GW Rohan models cost 50% more than Victrix (NZ$102 v NZ$68) - and that's before you factor in that you get extra models in the Victrix kit. I definitely know which ones I'll be using.
Thanks I'm glad you think so, usually i find that's the case regardless of manufacturer, if the paint applications and basing are similiar...it ties everything together. Cheers Peachy
Worth noting there is a noticable scale difference between the old and new warriors of Rohan. But the older heroes and metal miniatures fit the new scale perfectly.
@@kerel995 They really aren't. They're better at taking your money for less product. Don't be a fanboy. Yes, I worked for them, and I still work in the industry. Plenty of better companies out there if you're not just going to fanboy for a single company.

Love to watch your stuff and the only thing I would have done differently was the mail. I learned early on, doing dwarves actually, paint the mail black and dry brush over the top which gives it that shadow under the mail. Also a suggestion. For the GW Rohan model, to give him a bit more height to match the other lads, use a base for him. Something like the Bolt Action bases, possibly upside down on the black base and you might find the height of the figures similar. Having said that, you may have just found a way to show that humans are different heights anyway.
These are excellent suggestions, I often mix up the way I approach metals, and the dwarf version you mentioned is a great example. Cheers for commenting
I really need a bunch of these early saxons so I can do up an OPFOR against Arthur and his knights. Those are the best early armoured saxons I've seen.
Whilst the Middle Earth plastic miniatures are generally at the "value" end of GW's price range, the smaller, 30 figure skirmish packs from Victrix, per model, are still about 30% better value for money. However, buy the full size packs of 60 and you end up paying about half what you would per model than buying the citadel ones. That said, I have been using Rohan miniatures extensively in a fantasy project I am working on based on the Symbaroum RPG setting. Rohan represent one of the Barbarian clans, which I am basing on various dark age civilizations. So I am not trying to be disparaging of GW, I think their Rohan models are stunning.
I'd like to kitbash some of the Victrix or Wargames Atlantic Medieval minis into Feudal World themed Traitor Guard and Cultists to accompany my Nurgle-corrupted Blood Angels
I've got used to the monopose GW kits now for my AoS armies. The only bugbear is for hero models, so if I want more than one I have to alter them in some way. I look at it as a hobby challenge and it doesn't need to be done very often. AoS models are not 28mm, though, and aesthetically very distinct, so it's a bit harder to mix in other brands. ( Perhaps that might be an idea for a future video ). Great content as always, thank you.
My Steel Legion army is a mix of models from 6 different ranges: • original Games Workshop metal Steel Legion, • Pig Iron Productions metal Kolony Militia • Wargames Atlantic Greatcoats with Pig Iron Gasmask heads, • Mark Mondragon‘s plastic Iron Core Stormtroppers, • a few Spellcrow resin Greatcoat officers • and finally some new plastic GW Death Corps of Krieg Veterans. As Peachy suggested here with his GW and Victrix Rohan models, by using a consistent paint scheme and basing, they all appear to be various platoons within the same larger army.
Those armored Saxons could be a base for some Trench Crusade troopers. As an aside, the WGA mounted Conquistadors are a little over $3 a pop to GWs $12.
Victrix makes the best D&D minis on the market. With something like GW, there's loads of details, like sculpted shield emblems. They really lock you into one look. Victrix is more grounded, so it's way easier to kitbash a little and sculpt cloaks or whatever without clashing. Just add a cloak, swap to an ahistorical field, and they feel like fantasy minis. Their Dacians are probably the winners for this, just because there's so many rarer weapons. Plus, huge bags mean you get lots of bits to mix and match! I've built probably two hundred of their minis, and I don't think I've actually done any of them completely as intended. I think it helps that if you're paying American GW prices, Victrix can pretty easily pull ahead on price, too.
I disagree. Heroes are the ones that need to be standouts, everyone else is a generic warrior. Five or six different sculpts are acceptable for the faceless mooks.
game scale also matters. i mostly play rank and file, so monopose gives the appearance of an army at the ready. if someone mainly plays skirmish, that might look boring or unnatural, clashing with miniatures who are acting much more independently
When I saw the warriors of rohan box in a GW store I too was pretty shocked at the price. around 2€ (maybe a bit less) per model. That'S cheap for GW standards.
In the US, the new Rohirrim on foot are $52/box. For GW, that's actually not bad. The War of the Rohirrim boxed set is $220. That's basically a £40 Yankee Upcharge. We won't discuss the prices in Australia and New Zealand, as it would cause a riot. Most Victrix ancients and dark range float around $60 for 60 miniatures or a smaller number of minis for like $36, last i checked.
I feel like if you did some cloaks on the vitrix models they’d fit in even better. Some green stuff or even paper dipped in a water/pva glue mix works great!
The MESBG line is pretty great pricewise. I guess you hit some pain points when you want some of the stuff not in plastic. Strange that they didn't take the opportunity to make command options in plastic with this Rohan refresh. I have some late Romans/Romano-Britons from Victrix. They were a bit more pricy compared to other stuff in their catalogue, but you get 5 whole extra frames of heads. Would be excellent as a Rohan alternative too.
Glad I got enough of the old warriors of Rohan, clean them up on sprue then so easy to prime and batch paint like most MESBG stuff is a nice change from multi part kits.
I looked into the pricing and not looking for discount the models are close in pounds but when you go to USD the Victrix are way better deal. I could have made a mistake so sorry if i did.
Shocked by the GW price, it's almost reasonable heavily discounted 😂 I have loads of the old ones and don't feel the need. However, never got Dunland for the wars in rohan scenarios and victrix certainly fit there. Also wargames atlanic peasants and rus would make great laketown. Need some peasants for that bree scenario actually ...
I'm currently putting together an Easterling and Khand army with a mix of their Rus and early Saxon kits and their Scythians and Celtic Chariots. Just in time for... half of it to go to Legends 🙃 Oh well, I play the game on my own anyway, so who cares if it's "official" or not anymore! One thing to note, though - I dunno about MESBG scale creep, but more recent Victrix kits are starting to get bigger over time. The newer Rus foot troops are as tall standing on the ground as the Scythians are on their horses! Something to bear in mind for the kitbashers out there.
Am I correct in remembering that part of the reason GW LOTR ranges are (or were) 25mm rather than 28mm was that it was part of the licencing arrangement with New Line Cinema specifically to make it more difficult for people to sub in historical figures?
im always adding stuff to my list, and i still have my Zulu movie inspired characters still to paint up, for a fun Roukes Drift game...so its definitely a potential.
I like victrix but I like northstar (frostgrave and oathmark) even better because they are the easiest to customize. I assembled a band of hobgoblins by mixing pieces from a box of orcs and a box of demons.
I love the new LOTR figures. However I do feel for a mono pose figure they are just to unnecessarily complicated kit to put together. But they did float my boat.
Victrix makes some great models! I'll do something I don't do too often and defend GW; monopose models, while harder to kitbash, are night and day in terms of how dynamic the model looks compared to the swappable arm set types of models. Just compare the Death Korps of Krieg Kill Team to original Cadians and you'll notice how stiff and un-lifelike the Cadians look by comparison.
whoever back around the hobbit days decided to half the size of the kit and keep the price at about the same... really tried their hardest to kill the system.
My take : if they are both roughly the same cost, and the GW one are a lot more mono-pose, then why not add victrix to the official ones for a bit of variety, rather than copies of the same mini.
RRP costs here. 24 models for 31.50 for rohan, or 48 models for 40 for Rus, 60 viking for 42 quid... they aren't similarly priced in the UK for sure. Likely even worse disparity abroad with GW terrible business practises.
As someone who has played a lot of historicals and non-gw stuff and has recently got into MESBG, MESBG is in a weird place price wise. As the video points out, the basic troops that are available in plastic are about £1 a model, which is more or less what you pay from Wargames Atlantic, Victrix, Oathmark kits, anything non-Gw really. The problem comes with cav (which are about twice as much as other companies) and anything not available in plastic, which suddenly goes into insane prices because its all forgeworld. If you're playing rohan and you buy a set of 24 warriors that entire battleline can cost less than a single character model. Eagles are a good example. A box of two eagles is about £30-ish quid, which is not unreasonable, especially when you only need 1 or 2 boxes. Sadly Gwaihir, the named eagle costs £75 for some reason. God help you if you want to play Arnor or Gundabad. There's a reason conversion of historical models and 3D prints are so common for MESBG forces. Like, you could spend 50 quid on 12 gundabad orcs if you want, or you can buy a £25 Box of Oathmark orcs and have 30 of them.
you always make good paint jobs look really accessible. I've been wanting to do some battle reports this year, what kind of camera do you use for yours?
Do you want historic/ film accuracy or just some well painted toys to play games you want to play? I sit in the latter camp, but I do try to get it close but I'm happy mixing ranges together. Perry Minis Zulus and British Army with Northstar Boers, Copplestone adventuers and Artizan British Northwest Frontier. I don't care, the gaming group don't care. We just want to have fun
I find GW on fire make amazing models eg necromantic horror Bloodbowl team is fantastic. But gw can also release quite fussy models which can have too much detail. It’s important to let imagintion fill in the details. Currentky paining up some 28mm napoleonic models and it’s noticeable how they have enough detail hooks for your brain. But not so much it becomes a chore. So like some gw, but not all
The BEST? They're amongst the best, definitely my favourite but let's face it. In 2025 you're spoilt for choice! (Your mic need adjusting a bit Peach, I think. Sounds a bit distorted)
Seriously, the stuff I see offered by 3d print designers is at least as good if not better than anything I see from Games Workshop at a fraction of the price (but with the drawback of putting up with a resin printer.) I haven't bought a GW figure in years and I doubt I will in the future, none of their games are good enough as games to warrant the expense.
If your baseline for pricing is 40K then the middle earth models are very reasonably priced (maybe even inexpensive😮) Victrix models look cool. Would like to see Rohan guys get a little “lift” on their bases to bring their height up to see if it matches 😅
Regards to pricing, I'd agree I'm very surprised they're comparable to the other kits... which may just mean the 20 year old kits are overpriced but it's a good sign. It's as if GW have learned that LOTR players will just go elsewhere for models and aren't slaves to the IP like 40k. Funny that how market demand and pricing works. Someone should write that down 😄 I have the same problem with Victrix as I have with Wargames Atlantic. I dont always want or need the full box that they produce. Id happily pay and extra few quid for them to have a "Pick'n'Mix" box where you pick (using WA as the metric) 4 sprues from any of their ranges and it cost £28 instead of £25. Like I love their Sci fi dwarves and WW1 infantry but if I just want to run a skirmish game I dont need 30 of each. The 6 that come on each sprue will do me fine 😄 Could even theme it like a Wolfenstein box with 1x German entries 1x Werewolves 1x Zombies 1x Iron Core. Boom perfect box!
The pick and mix idea is a top notch suggestion, and I’d make use of that, I like it so much I’m gonna email both companies and see if that’s a thing that can be possible?
@PeachyTips Please do! I've also emailed but I expect your recommendation will carry a tad more clout 😄 cracking scheme by the way. I've got something like 46 horsemen to get painted, perfectly timed!
Vitrix is better in price and quality. The only reason the Rohan Models are priced well is because it's a starter box. For GW once you move away from the starter boxes literally everything becomes far more expensive.
I Love the models (when they are build and done) - but the new Rohan Warriors as well as the "Wild Men" are incredibly fiddly to build. I would understand this heavy "multi-part" approach if there were options (for the Wild Men there are at least a few) - but they still seem overdesigned for this small scale. Having a 28mm "standard unit" Model that consists of 9 parts is just too much. Sure - the old models were basically single-molds and they are old and all that - but did we really need to break them up into 9 fiddly parts to get ~35% more fine detail into them? We have fantastic Underworlds-Models that are 3-part. I can only guess GW did this to get the Detail of their higher scale Models into their lower scale Models. But really - it does not matter that much - those new models are only better if you are able to paint them better.
Here in the U.S. the Victrix models are $1 each off eBay. The Rohirrim are $2 each. So two times more expensive. Your calculus, sadly, doesn't work for us Colonials. Also, real shame that the movie got destroyed at the box office.
Gw kits: if you just one model, they are amazing. If you want variety and creativity, worst models ever xD Also enough with multipart to make a small part of a mini lol
When you say "toy soldiers" to me, I think historical miniatures, so since GW doesn't make historical miniatures, the answer has to be no. But depending on what you want to use the miniatures for, YMMV.
I haven't enjoyed a GW new plastic kit in ages, far too complicated for a monopose model, so many other companies offer variety with ease of construction at far cheaper a cost. Not to say GW makes bad models, I love the end result of the Bretonnian royal BSB and some of the recent trolls, but if you offered either of those to me or say a Victrix early Saxons or Gripping Beast Huscarls, I wouldn't choose GW. They've lost their way slightly.

I'm very excited that a local shop started carrying Victrix. They can be a little hard to find in the US.
Here in North America its either 24 gw models for 60$ or 60 victix for $60.
So the GW value your seeing may be a UK only perk.
48 rus for £40.. yea i'll take that over GW any day, prefer the sculpts too. Rohan are nice but they're annoying as per new GW sprue design.

Most Victrix ancients and dark range float around $60 for 60 miniatures or a smaller number of minis for like $36, last i checked.
Yeah the smaller companies prices are very competitive and definitely affordable. I’d hate to be a hobbyist in Aus/NZ 😬
I love Peachy's tip ;D thanks for the upload mate. Personal answer, no they don't!
I feel like if you did some cloaks on the vitrix models they’d fit in even better. Some green stuff or even paper dipped in a water/pva glue mix works great!
agreed, it wasn't until i was editing that i thought...bugger i should've done my Masking Tape cloak on one...next time.
Lotr GW are more like 25mm. I wish they did them bigger.
I am hoping to do a late British roman army but paint it up as Númenórean army
The MESBG line is pretty great pricewise. I guess you hit some pain points when you want some of the stuff not in plastic.
Strange that they didn't take the opportunity to make command options in plastic with this Rohan refresh.
I have some late Romans/Romano-Britons from Victrix. They were a bit more pricy compared to other stuff in their catalogue, but you get 5 whole extra frames of heads. Would be excellent as a Rohan alternative too.
I love the victrix norman's and vikings!
Glad I got enough of the old warriors of Rohan, clean them up on sprue then so easy to prime and batch paint like most MESBG stuff is a nice change from multi part kits.
For me they make great models but if you look at Wyrd and Corvus Belli, they aren’t the only player in the game anymore.
I looked into the pricing and not looking for discount the models are close in pounds but when you go to USD the Victrix are way better deal. I could have made a mistake so sorry if i did.
Nah I think your probably correct on that score 😍
Love the vids, would you consider doing a Zulu era British infantry soldier guide?
im always adding stuff to my list, and i still have my Zulu movie inspired characters still to paint up, for a fun Roukes Drift game...so its definitely a potential.
I like victrix but I like northstar (frostgrave and oathmark) even better because they are the easiest to customize. I assembled a band of hobgoblins by mixing pieces from a box of orcs and a box of demons.
Tbf the Frostgrave/Stargrave and Oathmark kits are amount my top kits atm….so versatile, interchangeable and jam packed with stuff
I love the new LOTR figures. However I do feel for a mono pose figure they are just to unnecessarily complicated kit to put together. But they did float my boat.
Brilliant paintjobs, but preferring the GW one 100% over the Victrix Saxons
Victorix figs are really good . And good value for money 😊
Victrix makes some great models! I'll do something I don't do too often and defend GW; monopose models, while harder to kitbash, are night and day in terms of how dynamic the model looks compared to the swappable arm set types of models. Just compare the Death Korps of Krieg Kill Team to original Cadians and you'll notice how stiff and un-lifelike the Cadians look by comparison.
thanks for commenting, this is a very fair observation
whoever back around the hobbit days decided to half the size of the kit and keep the price at about the same... really tried their hardest to kill the system.
Victrix do amazing shield sticker transfers
i was super taken aback at first...but i think they might just be my favourite decals
you always make good paint jobs look really accessible. I've been wanting to do some battle reports this year, what kind of camera do you use for yours?
Looks like Victrix is 28mm heroic whereas the MESBG minos are rather more truescale.
Any recommendations for models to use for Hussite Wars ?
So like some gw, but not all
It definitely makes the most expensive ones!
That's what GW execs and shareholders understand by 'best' - the biggest profit.
Proxied a huge Dunland army from various Victrix kits last year.
Then GW killed the army off... 😂
Oh wow! Not cool at all, I do feel your pain on that score though, sorry to hear it though 😍
What brand is the Black night wash?
Here I thought Rohan was steppe country and the warriors were all mounted.
If your baseline for pricing is 40K then the middle earth models are very reasonably priced (maybe even inexpensive😮)
Victrix models look cool. Would like to see Rohan guys get a little “lift” on their bases to bring their height up to see if it matches 😅
yeah agreed that little lift would fix the the visual disparity for sure.
Someone should write that down 😄
I have the same problem with Victrix as I have with Wargames Atlantic.
The 6 that come on each sprue will do me fine 😄
Could even theme it like a Wolfenstein box with 1x German entries 1x Werewolves 1x Zombies 1x Iron Core.
What wash is that?
No - but the GW range does establish a universal scale and style across all factions.
Vitrix is better in price and quality.
The only reason the Rohan Models are priced well is because it's a starter box.
For GW once you move away from the starter boxes literally everything becomes far more expensive.
i like vminiatures when it comes to viking age
All very fair and great points, thanks for commenting 😍👍
It seems that the audio is a bit weird. As if Peachy was saturating the microphone by talking too close to it.
Wow mic level blowout
The answer is it depends what your looking but a lot of GWs stuffs is over designed .
Comment for the comment gods.

Valu = Amaz
If you want variety and creativity, worst models ever xD
Also enough with multipart to make a small part of a mini lol
I'm a big GW LOTR model fan and they did such a good job on the new plastic Rohan sculpts
Peachy, what are your thoughts on the 2024 anime movie, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim? 🎬
