My take to all these is to pass law that all cities in Kenya should be headed by a qualified CEOs. No more political leaders to run our cities and sanity will be restore d

But we have political leaders running the country. The problem lies with Kenyan voters who have some odd attraction to incompetence. Let Nairobians suffer the consequences electing an incompetent leader. Let them suffer and hopefully learn.

I often feel in Kenya we don't lack solutions or know-how, just people willing to do the right thing and to work. She has clearly stated what needs to be done I won't be surprised if the governor executes none; he is totally disconnected from the people yet voted by the people. There is a lot of futuristic talk when it comes to this government "We Shall" rarely do we hear "We have done" Happy to hear someone who can report what they have done before this disaster took place.

It is demoralizing to see citizens struggling to survive in a national crisis. There is a national and local system of governance. One wonders if these systems are not demonstrating minimal efforts to rescue poor Kenyans, what role do they play in the community?

I agree with what she's saying here. Permanent solutions are needed. Strict laws are needed. Strict enforcement of those laws would be needed.
As an aside, I hope she wasn't being serious saying men are useless in a disaster 😄 this male v female narrative has to stop. we need to play to our strengths and work together everywhere to get things done.

When one chooses to be a leader, you assume responsibility for everything including past mistakes. Excuses do not solve problems. Kenya clearly needs a new type of leadership on all levels. Of all the 5 governments since independence. The current one is clearly the worst. Kenya is on the brink of becoming a certified banana republic. Kenya is not a good example for the UN headquarters or even AU chairmanship. The “shinning star of Africa “ is now the example of an African embarrassment.

Eti multilevel team...kweli Kenya tumelemewa akili. We have the army and navy. Why can't they be activated to manage these tasks? What's the point of committees that will only sit to talk, eat, and collect allowances in a fancy air conditioned hotel?

    • @johngitonga9694
      @johngitonga9694 16 дней назад

Rest assured that this Multi-Level Level Task Force or whateveris comprised of people paid "sitting allowances". The people with the solutions are the middle management & lower cadre staff on the ground. They have no reason to tell lies. Meanwhile, r the Task Force will soon travel, shamelessly, to Dubai to benchmark.

On this one, floods, I will cut Sakaja some slack. Flooding of Nairobi did not just happen during his term. The problems of Nairobi started soon after we got Independence. Successive city govts/councils failed to adopt or adhere to proper city planning and what was there was not enforced. The people who were in charge of Nairobi, the councilors failed to enforce, institute rules, and regulations on where you can build and can not. It was a free-for-all all as long as you had the money to bribe city administrators.
The councilors while in office instead of coming up with master plans envisioning the growth of the city and what was needed in terms of infrastructure and other developments they took, grabbed, failed to invest in proper infrastructure, and allowed anyone to build anywhere as long as you bribed them. Please someone explain how a developer can be allowed to build apartments on Nairobi dam a riparian ground. And this is repeated over and over again in Nairobi and the entire country. We fail to follow rules and regulations and these are the results we get.
One such councilor is Kirima. How can one explain him owning thousands of acres of land in the vicinity of Nairobi whilst millions of Nairobians do not even own a plot to build decent housing as a result we are confined to slums and building in areas not meant for human habitation. How does a councilor supposed to be a decision maker turn around and own so much. But this is a story of another day.
This disorder continued with successive council administrations and governors till today.
Sakaja is just a scapegoat for all the ills and neglect that has affected the city post-independence and the results are here for us to experience.
Kenyans generally we need a culture change, mindset change otherwise we will fry in our own fat as President Moi used to say.

@@georgeodhiambo598 All cities including developed countries face flooding. There are certain phenomena in climate no matter how well prepared you are mother nature has a way to get its way. In Kenya, one can not ignore historical injustices when it comes to planning of the city. Successive city govts have failed to plan the city since independence and one can not hip blame on Sakaja on flooding who has only been in office for 2yrs. Not to say he does not have a part to play but to ignore previous city govts for failure to properly plan the city and expect fixes to be made in 2yrs whilst it has taken 50-plus yrs
of neglect is apportioning blame inappropriately

    Kenyans have two choices:
    1) immigrate and leave the country
    2) start a non-tribal revolution that will bring about real change and real leaders not looking to just get rich
Short of these two options, there's no hope.
