    You seem very inspired by this amp in particular, so many wonderful riffs in this video. This amp sounds unlike any other (even all the magnificent amps tested on your channel). With the very organic tremolo, breakup and chime, it really sounds like it is somehow alive and breathing ! The sustain is gorgeous, it really sounds like someone singing or whispering at times.

    I just picked up a V1 (tube) Pathfinder, the American counterpart to the UL705. Combined with replacing the bridge P-90 in my 2018-spec Les Paul Classic with a mini-humbucker (and going from this demo of my amp's big brother), I have finally captured the jangle I have chased for so long.

    The 710 was the only all valve "super-twin" model (separate amp and cab) in the 7 series. The others had valve power sections, but solid state preamps.
    Cabs at first had tilt-back side stands, the amp being secured to the top with a tongue and bracket assembly, later used for the Conqueror and Defiant. Later cabs had in effect 715 trolleys with parallel bars across the top on which the amp could sit.
    Drivers were 10" Celestion T7442s, 15ohms, rated at 10 watts each, wired in parallel for a total impedance of 8ohms.

      Does UL stand for ultra linear? That would explain is cleaner less compressed and distorted sound. UL would have the screen of the EL84 @ pin #9 connected directly to transformer taps and not thru resistors to B+ voltage.

    Extraordinary sounding amplifier, a real stand out. I didn't hear any bad notes, great breadth and balance, the Les Paul agreed with it. I can't say I've heard that guitar sound any better. I may be prejudiced just a bit I used to play a Vox V125 and AC15 (two tens in the 15w combo) I used Fane speakers in my Vox amps. It would interesting to hear this combo in context of a complete song (or two) and band. Thanks for this one Johan.

      TheGman858 For live use you're completely right. That's why they did the ac30 and 50 when they realised that 15 Watts wasn't enough even with the PA systems of the times. Although studio work is another matter, the champ was one of the most recorded amps at the time after all

      Johan Segeborn
      I think it is quite. Similar to the vox ac10 srt www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac10srt.html
      Which is quite different to the normal ac10 schematic and layout
      Worth looking into
      Let's go!

    • @chriswumperone2759
      @chriswumperone2759 6 лет назад

      Johan do you have the schematic? I can't find it. "UL" is either Underwriters Laboratory or Ultra-Linear. The way to tell is if pin 9 on the EL84 is connected to a transformer taps rather than screen resistors and on to the B+ voltage rail, then it would be ultra-linear which is somewhere between sounding pentode and sounding triode. But I really find that hard to believe that they would go that route this early in the mid 60s. Has to be Underwriter Lab I would guess.

    • @ant1sokolow
      @ant1sokolow 6 лет назад

      .
      Totally different than AC 10. Hybrid circuit: solid state preamp and tube power amp. The UL710 is the same amp than UL715, marketed with another name for some reasons.
      The solid state preamp design/idea came from Thomas Organ/Vox, the american 'sister company' of the english JMI/Vox under Royston ownership (the beginning of the end for Vox...)
      (source: www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/715.html)

    • @garywordsworth9302
      @garywordsworth9302 6 лет назад +4

      ant Sor
      The UL 705 and UL 710 are the only all valve amplifiers from the 700 series line and were a jmi not Thomas organ product
      The UL 705 was a revision of the old ac4
      And the UL 710 was a revision of the Ac10srt head
      And has 3 ecc83s in the pre and 2 el84s in the power section

    Yeah, that amp has it's own cool vibe and aura. The tremelo and reverb sound smooth with vintage sweetness.
    Check out our host's spontaneous, inspired, foot tapping around the 10:56 mark.

    Not sure where to post this so tried here. Hi Johan, You have a great channel and you seem to be answering a lot of questions on the quest for better tone. But here’s one that comes up time and again on guitar forums, How to get a solo boost from a single channel amp with no fx loop, eg a JCM 800 2204. In a one guitar band this isn’t usually a problem but with two guitarists the problems start.
    I have had pretty good results by setting the amp at solo volume (LOUD) and backing off my guitar volume for rhythm so I can push it up for solos from the guitar volume. This is fine for blues rock and some seventies rock but I find you can’t get a really crunchy rhythm like Guns n Roses, or 80’s rock. If you could do some kind of sound comparison on this topic I think you would make a lot of people happy, and save them a lot of money buying endless pedals.
    All the best.
    Julian

    The EL84 power tubes have a really pretty breakup. I’ve always wondered why, technically, they have that signature distortion. Perhaps that is the sound of a power tube distorting without tormenting the speaker. Great sounds here.

    Awesome amp and awesome video Johan! Have you checked out the AC10 SRT? I saw it on the Doug and Pat video and the sound blows me away! Apparently Henry amps makes a clone of it called the SRT+. Would love to see you review that as well.

    Hi Johan! Is the riff that you're playing @ 3:26-3:45 your own "creation" or is it from an actual song? It's freaking awesome, probably my all-time favourite riff of yours 🤘

    Another GREAT demo!! Thank you. Would you say this is close to the vintage AC10 that you demo'd?
