Oh wow that Les Paul Custom through the 2x12 is just pure heaven. Would love to have heard your SG through this amp. Thank you as always Johan for living our dreams.
+TimB4305 Thanks Tim! Yeah the LP and the Twin really worked together
I want to drink some beer and jam with this guy.
Why would you want to drink jam?
@@mickvanderh.2948 🤣
Man these things maintain a lot of clarity even at full volume.
+xMasterxRazorx yeah, they are cleaner than I expected
Went out to a friend's farm today and dimed my handwired ac15hw1x for the first time since owning it for 3 years. Man it's a sound I've never heard through that amp and wish I could have it all the time. These amps are gorgeous
I love Vox. They are my second place to a plexi. They just ooze tones. Even the modern ac15c1 rips right out of the box. Get a y cable and jump the channels together and it’s pure rock and roll. Beautiful playing as always. You always make me want to grab my guitar and start groovin. Happy New Year!!! 🎊
Great to hear that. Happy New Year Anthony!
So basically Les Paul + Vox AC15 = 🔥
Yeap, that is the sound
That strat sounds divine. Just got myself a '78 japanese 'matsumoku' strat copy with texas special pickups and upgraded hardware yesterday and I'm totally in love!
Awesome work as always Johan.
+Tuomas Raatikainen Thanks Tuomas! Yeah those are cool
nice job! amps sounded killer! I ALWAYS enjoy your informative videos! great chops as well! Thank you for sharing!!!
+Jimmie Marchisotto Thanks Jimmie!
sounds pretty good, def a classic sounding tone! wow, thats rare to get to hear those! excellent choices of riffs to play through them as well!
+WADE BRADLEY Thanks Wade!
Inspiring riffs played with hollow and raspy Vox goodness. Thanks Johan!
Thanks Tero!
as always man, a treat to watch your videos... those amps are really great! classic! keep the vids coming 😬 can't get enough of them
+Rockin Civic Glad to hear it :-) More is coming up! Cheers
1:40 into the video is the quintessential Johan rock riff
Thanks! :-)
Agreed this is a song he's writing
Sparkle Clean with the Strat! Sounds really good
+Glauco Santiago Thanks Glauco! Yeah the 1x12 was clean although it was completely dimed
That strat sounds great on both amps!
+Tomy Sabbath Thanks man! And any Sabbath fan is a friend of mine! :-) Cheers Johan
Love that Les Paul thru the 212! Great organic crunch!
+tim price Thanks Tim! Yeah that's a good combination indeed
Great playing and sound as always, great job Johan.
+DragonCrestPC Thanks! Glad you like it. Cheers Johan
Great sounds! I love these amps! It would have been great to hear a Tele. For me, the best combination is Vox + Telecaster :)
Absolutely correct. Tele, strat, and I've recently discovered they take PRS 85/15s quite nicely as well.
It's wild how great those sound compared to the modern AC15, which are shrill and strident. My band mate plays a Marr Jag out of a recent AC15 and it is like listening to someone saw through sheet metal; but when we recorded he used the studio's 65 AC30 and it sounded brilliant -- more like these clips. Thanks for this! You've renewed my interest in Vox.
I have been waiting for you to do this! Thank you so much!
+Tori Hensley Thanks Tori!
Very nice demo of capability: the amp's AND yours!!!!!!! You really showed them off well !!!!
Classic tones a gogo. Great demo
+vdbdg Thanks! :-)
Jesus Christ that old ac15 sounds fucking magic.
+Will Turner Thanks man :-)
Sweet can't wait to hear it. There my favorite band. I tried out your settings that you gave me on my JVM. Wow sounds amazing. I got to get me a super lead plexi. Have a great day bro.
+Corbin Hales you too, my friend!
Nice greasy riff at 2:05 - such minimal moves, I thought you had a loop running until I paid closer attention. Been breaking it down the last half hour... harder than it looks to get it sitting nicely like you are playing. What song?
+Trevor Jalla Thanks! Thats actually one of mine, heres the tabs
ruclips.net/video/MV4H_Pqa5uQ/видео.html
Awesome. I'll get as close as I can by ear first - trying to keep that muscle in shape, and I'll double check it with the tabs later.
Excellent riff. Sounds like old school AC/DC
Really cool! I'll definitely check that out. Thanks!
Great tone aswell. Made me remember Long cool woman in a black dress or The day that curly Billy shot down crazy Sam Mcgee. Long names... Haha
Both sound great. I like the twin a bit better. Nice growl with the Les Paul. Thanks for the demo.
+sassulusmagnus Thanks! :-)
great tones, great playing. sounds fucking gnarly
+Jacob Fuller Thanks Jacob!
Wonderful demo. You use the Vox amps how they are meant to be used; loud with no pedals to ruin that sweet tone. Your chops are not to shabby either. Keep the demos coming man.
Best amp demo channel, Johan. No question about it.
This is great stuff Johan!!!
Your videos are always the best, and your playing ALWAYS does the gear justice!!!
Great job Johan, keep 'em coming' and Happy New Year to you brother!
M
Those are good sounding amps!
+Rick McCargar yeah the most beautiful and natural compression of any amps I've played
Amazing review as usuall! Cheers Jorge
+harleybrujo Hi Jorge! Really glad you liked it. Cheers my friend! Johan
I had a 1963 AC15 that I put a Top Boost kit into the Vib/Trem channel! Holy crap! It won the AC15 shootout in Jim Elyea's "Vox Book-The JMI Years" amp comparison/shootout.
+LPCustom3 Cool! Is there a video clip of the comparison? Cheers
No, I wish. This was about 2006/7 before everyone started videoing everything like that. We didn't think about doing that....
What were the deciding factors in your's coming out as the winner?
Gött, Johan! Det är verkligen något särskilt med en stärk på fullt blås. Och alltid lika kul att följa dina videos! Kör hårt! /Henrik
+Henrik Hansson Tack Henrik! Grymt roligt att höra.
Great playing and demo thx
+soldanovht noneofya Thanks :-)
Love the Voxes!
+Zachary Drummond Glad to hear it!
1:10 sweet Jerry Garcia !! Intentional or not, was an amazing touch !
+Elias Levinson Thanks! I love the Grateful Dead
Nobody produces better videos/tones than you. Man that 63' combo melts my ears. I would take that combo any day over a Marshall. Damn. I would love to plug my 61' RI SG though those things.
+kommi1974 Thanks! Really glad to hear that!
Been waiting on this one:)
+Ken Aiello Glad to hear it, Ken! Cheers
Delicious is the word !!!! My gloriously non vintage AC15CH head made in China is on the way... complete with Attenuator and Spring Tank and Tremolo.
So how has it been working out for you? Any particular snags or issues with it that you've come across with it over time.
I'm on the fence about whether to go for a 15 or 30 C1x model or to go for one of Handwired versions.
I can only imagine the tones out of these. I've got an ac10 and can't turn it up (at home) past 9' o clock or someone will be knocking on my door saying it's too loud. Even when I take it to rehersal with a group that I am in this amp never gets much louder than that either, as it will overpower the rest of the group. As much as I wanted the 15, I am glad I went with the 10 (for now anyway). I have pleanty of room to grow with the 10. I am thinking about building a new cab though, because I would love to have the amp drive an alnico speaker, which would not be able to fit in the tight quarters of the ac10's cab in the combo.
i have my eye on AC 4 with 12" ....sounds like it might keep up with a moderate drummmer ?
@@TheMichaelseymour I found the AC4 wasn't enough with drummer I played with. Maybe with a more efficient speaker though. It was close. Just really compressed. Drummer was on louder side so might be good otherwise
Wow super cool amps. I have a VOX AC15CC, which I believe were designed by Mitch Colby?? JCM800, Jubilee etc. I put in a choke and did all the suggested mods on it. It would be interesting to hear how the VOX reissues stack against the originals. Mine has been a real workhorse for me. Very versatile..gorgeous cleans and a bulldog with the gain cranked.
+Gatpig Thanks! I think I can get my hand on a reissue to compare
both sound fantastic and different
That twin get dirtier than the other combo. Other than speakers, I wonder what the difference is? Thank you for doing videos like this! They are an excellent resource for introducing people to the sounds of old amplifiers they might not get to hear critically otherwise.
I blew up an AC 15 gigging with it in a Blues Rock band. Worked for the show; but was never "OK" after that. Who knows what happened. Very buzzy after. I think it shook something loose. Now sitting in storage. Lovely amp for the one gig it performed. Not enough cleans to be heard with a rock drummer though.
Sorry to hear it, you should take it to a tech
Those AC-15 boxes look about twice the size than the ones they make now.
+VoxPathfinder15R Yeah the Black one is the same size as the AC30
Well even the single speaker cab looks twice as big - AC15's built now are about the same size as a blues jr.
Hell no, I own both and my AC15 is twice as big as my blues jr lol
I think today's handwired version you would find is the same size as the single here.
mattheau aulisi heavy as hell too. But man do they sound good.
Awesome vid 👍🔥🎸🦅
Great riff at 2;00, and great sound. Would be good to have a decibel meter on some of these recordings to get some idea of volume / pressure.
Sounds SO GOOD. I own a AC15 clone (Magic Amps Brit Mkii). It sounds fantastic on both sides, but especially the EF86 side with my Strat. It has one Celestion Blue in it....and it is LOUD. What speakers are in both of your amps? THANKS JOHAN!!
Nevermind. I see that you had Blues in both. -Interesting how different the amps sound.
+Nick DeMayo Thanks Nick! It's a blue in the 1x12 but the Twin turned out to have Silvers, but that may only be cosmetics. Cheers Johan
lovely! 👍
+Nicholas Dentato Thanks man! 😀
wow there are some seroiusly good riffs in there
The Twin is my favourite! Although the 1x12 is great too.
+Ace Thanks!
Hello Johan! Great amps, loved them forever! Don. You need to borrow my Brian May treble booster! Peace.
Johan Boogie is improving ! : )
+Mitchell Ferre haha, thanks! :-)
Those old twins sound great. Close to the sound of the old AC-10 SRT. AC-10 Super Reverb TwinAC-10 Super Reverb TwinAC-10 Super Reverb Twin
+RC Pickups they do indeed
In between the cuts on all of your videos I imagine you been there, played 150 songs, 8 hours later
Hey! Great playing! And beautiful amps ;) What is the 2nd song you played in this video?
+hq409 Thanks! That was just improvisation. Cheers!
Differents tones than usual but nonetheless beautiful. Thx Johan!
+Alexis Férat Thanks Alexis! Yeah different amps makes you play different stuff :-)
Thanks Johan- another great one. Did the twin move more air and seem like it could hang with a band better? That single speaker version is the best looking amp I've ever seen.
I perfer LP through 1x12 and the Strat through the 2x12. Awesome demo!
Sweet video man. Could you sometime try to get the Acdc tone. I would love to hear it. Keep it up.
+Corbin Hales Hi Corbin! Consider it done :-)
Awesome demo per usual! lots of "bite" in these Vox's to my ear. What's the riffing you get on for a while from 1:31 to 2:27? Sounds sooo familiar lol
+Jordon Collins Thanks! That's one of my riffs. You can find the tabs for it in this clip
ruclips.net/video/MV4H_Pqa5uQ/видео.html
It would be nice to have the differences between an Ac30 and Ac15 explained apart from the obvious wattage difference, and sound samples of the same setting on both ac30 and ac15 with and without attenuator... I've not seen a proper explanations anywhere on the web for some one who's thinking of getting a vintage Vox but unsure witch amp would be best for them.
+LUKE DOHERTY Thanks Luke! A very good idea. I will adress it in the coming clip
2/12 has nicer tone to me. Both sound great. Like the Fawn color more. i have a Fawn 62 2/12 AC-15
2x10 is more tight in bass and has a tighter and more dynamic/articulate/harmonic top end. 1x12 is kind of “dry” sounding. Not dull by any means. Just “reedy” liken to a saxophone. I think the 2x10 would stand out more and better in a mix. Just my thoughts. Both sounded really good in their own way.
Nice!
+Samuel Waddell Thanks Samuel!
I know I'm supposed to be playing more modern amps at he age of 26. But I don't care my Les Paul sounds so good through any vox ac15. It's not just the bell like crystal tone, for me it's also some of the small imperfections when overdriven or with drive pedals. Great video by the way, represent the characteristics of what make the amps great, while playing them in the tone tone that sounds best to you.
"I know I'm supposed to be playing more modern amps..."
Really? Says who? Peer groups or current trends? Screw that. The classics (such as AC/15 or AC/30 are classics for good reason. Trust your own ears and tastes before anyone else's. Indeed, this channel demos some of the greatest pieces of amps and gear ever created.
Vox rocks, and they ooze style as well. Cheers.
Johan, can you do this again, but plugged into the EF86 channel on both amps? Awesome demo!
You must an Amp Detective. WHERE? HOW? Amazing!
Do you have any videos comparing the vintage AC15 double speaker to Modern AC15 single one? Also, I'm assuming the old AC15 had Alnico blues? If so I guess it would a comparison between it and the new AC15C2 I believe is the alnico blues.
I have the same guitar- a 2010 Black Beauty, but I have the gold version. Last year for real ebony board and real MOP, btw. Are those the stock pick ups?
A couple questions. Both the ac15 are vintage 1963? I love the blonde..and what year is the lens paul custom? Sounds great. Wish my modern ac15 sounded that good.
What speaker is in it? If stock whatfdale that's the problem, put a celestion or Weber blue alnico in it and it'll be pretty close! Or a greenback if you want a little more aggressive speaker.
+dan peabody Thank! Yeah they're both 1963. The Custom is an R7 from 2010 with Screambuckers
Sounds great
The speaker in my ac15 c is a non original Jensen. Changing it to a celestion is on the to do list. A friend gave me the amp. I mostly use a 56 tweed deluxe clone. With a r9, teles and a 1980 paul with p90's
+dan peabody That's one beautiful burst on your avatar
thank you that's a 2014 R9 bourbon burst I bought it from Rainbow Guitars in Tucson Arizona and then I got Dr vintage aka me a set of pickups for it but you're absolutely fantastic and he did The Gourmet thing and put in a different tapered pot which I like quite a bit better and changed out the capacitors and all that other crap and now it's terrific and it set up with a set of pyramid twelves on it I like heavy strings plug into a Tweed Deluxe and it rocks. he's rebuilding my other guitar right now he's building me a set of p-90 pickups I can run over to his house and I played his vintage 57 Junior so he's building me a set of pickups that are supposed to sound as close as possible to that and we played around with it and I played with different pickups for about a year and I finally am having him build them I'll get that guitar back next week the speaker in my box is a Jensen do you think I would notice a profound difference if I go to a celestion
+dan peabody yeah there is quite a difference between Jensen and celestion. I compare them in this clip
ruclips.net/video/Gml_N6zvEZc/видео.html
You make me wish a 1963 ac15 was currently in my budget. Great sound.
Both sound insanely good. Now if only sound guys would let you crank them that loud.....
Also would've loved to see a treble booster during this
+DNKOTOR Yeah, it's actually surprisingly seldom that is done.
+DNKOTOR yeah, I REALLY need to get one, there are so many requests. So you mean the Rangemaster? Cheers Johan
Yeah that's the usual suspect for Rory Gallagher/Blackmore/Bolan etc. The reissues are ridiculously expensive though for such a simple circuit. And they're being made by those Music Ground guys that were selling stolen guitars so maybe best not to support them. Any clone from BSM/MJM/Analogman/Keeley would work. May not sound 100% authentic and they'll all sound different but they do the same thing.
+DNKOTOR Yeah, I'm also not happy about Music Ground.
They both sound amazing, though I have a slight preference for the tonal characteristics of the twin. It seems to have a little more presence, though the single seems to have a little more gain. You indicate that you plugged into ChI, which I believe is the tremolo channel, while ChII is the EF86 channel. Is this correct?
+Gregory Pease Thanks Gregory, I'm afraid I dont remember which channel I used, if it's not declared in the video. I almost always go for the brightest input on any amp though. Cheers Johan
Can you get your hands on old Bassmans? (like a 5D6) That would be very interesting to hear, both guitar and bass. I cant, sadly. :)
+RorysIrishTour As a matter of fact I hope to play one in about a month. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity to make a clip. Cheers Johan
Please johan bassman review's and hiwatt signatures series please..!! you are one of my favourites youtubers.. jejeje cheers.. :V
+Xavi Alvarez Thanks Xavi! I'm gonna compare a Bassman and a Superbass in an upcoming clip. Cheers Johan
That Strat always reminds of the one Jeff Beck used!
+TheSterlingSound Did he use that one on any album?
+Johan Segeborn it's on the Jeff Beck Group album, but look for it on RUclips under Jeff Beck Group 1972
+TheSterlingSound cool! I will
What kind of speakers?
great tone! great mic work too! WHAT DRIVERS (SPEAKERS) ARE IN EACH AMP?
+Matty Lance Thanks! The 1x12 has a Celestion Alnico Blue, and the Twin has Alnico Silvers. Gonna look up T number and year for the next clips. Cheers Johan
thanks Johan
Johan what is the riff at 1:30? Super cool sounding
and that bend thing he does my god
Hear is yet another strange thing. The Les Paul has a more dynamic clean then the strat at times. Im thinking you have to have that rolled back to about 3. Beautiful sound as almost always
Thanks David, yeah I worked the volume and tone pot a lot in this one
I may have missed it but do these have Celestion Blue speakers in them?
Johan, I have a 1963 AC15 Twin as well so I'm very interested in the details. Do you know what tubes are in the amps? I want my amp to sound as good as that twin cranked..... 🎸🎸
Johan, curious what speakers are in the Twin? I believe Goodmans and Fane Blues were offered in 1963... My amp has a pair of Celestion Blues from '63 but I don't think are original.... Thanks!
+mkii1964 Hi! It has Telefunken tubes if I'm nor mistaken. There will be a feature clip of it tomorrow
+mkii1964 The Twin has Celestion Silver Alnicos
Early Grey Alnico's with 3 screws or later Silver '67 Alnico's without screws? Thanks!
+mkii1964 They have the three screws at the frame
Any tips on replacing Vox grill cloth Looks like it goes under the piping but don't want to go that deep Glue maybe Hope you get this question LoL 😂 Happy Holidays Johan
I have the same amp ‘63 2X12 comb. Curious what tubes are in the 2X12 sounds great (both do)
Love both, but prefer the 1x12!
+777jordan thanks!
those vox amps and that custom les paul have a snarling brittle sound great for heavy blues rock i have never heard that combination before its a great surprise......can i suggest you try an ORANGE TH 30 head i owned one for a while and for its humble 30watts it can box well above its class its a two channel class A amp with a clean and dirty channel and a handy "shape control" knob it has a massive amount of headroom the only reason i swapped it was because a guy had the JMD1 i wanted......if you get a chance johan try the ORANGE TH 30 head.
+huskvarsm Hi! I play a TH30 in this clip
ruclips.net/video/L2R10HX4LmA/видео.html
+Johan Segeborn nice yes great amp and dual terror 30w is a great amp if you watched guitarist magazine interview where gary moore sets off the fire alarm he is using the dual terror right through that interview.....sadly it was to be one of garys last interviews :-(
+huskvarsm yeah :-( He has meant a great deal to me
Johan... would love you see you push an AC30 into "brown" town.
+Gordon Tubbs I play AC30s in these clips. With attenuator however!

eww
Is the trick to good tone wearing ear plugs and cranking? I feel like you'd lose some sound quality from the cans but who knows
8:29 THAT riff!
+Tassos Vogiatzis thanks!
2min mark sets the tone for this vid 😎
Bonjour, avez vous essayer la version jmi ac15/4 reissue?
Kids you need to hear it, this is a REAL VOX Amplifier.
Not fake and cheap chinese version, this is the real deal !! JMI manufactured in England *****
+VINYLBEATLES Thanks! Amazing amp indeed! Cheers Johan
My AC15 clone of normal ch w/ EF86 & Scumnico 12" (Silver Bell clone) don't sound as round & warm as this amp. Is it the speaker? The transformers? Choke? These amps sound so great, do they sound brighter in person?
+Andrew Schaefer Thanks Andrew, its mostly the speakers. It sounded basically like this in the room actually
AC15 1x12. Just a great sound. The AC30 is lush sounding as well. Not sure where i would play one, way too much poke for me. Tis why i went for an AC15. It's more than enough for the blues. My very favorite amps of all time :-)
Johan, does the new handwired Vox AC15 HW1X sound like the vintage ones? Is it worth putting NOS Mullards in? Thanks!
+MrAtsguitar Hi, the biggest difference is in the speakers. It would pay off more to get a vintage Celestion Alnico blue/silver
Thank you for your advice!
+MrAtsguitar Cheers!
It would be nice a comparison between the three versions of the Blue speaker: Vintage vs Modern UK vs Modern Chinese. I've heard that the (now discontinued) chinese blue (Vox exclusive for the CC and Heritage serires) actually sounds closer to a vintage one than the modern UK made ones...I have an AC15H1TV and an AC30H2l with those chinese speakers and they sound "vintage" to me, more than the UK one, that sounds more "Brian May" and holds gain "better" (less sag)...cheers and keep on rockin'! :)
great... what's the noise????
+Mahan Malek Thanks! You mean the rumble in the background? Think they jammed in a nearby room.
oh of course.. I was a little shocked by the noise on clean mood when you started with your beautiful strat
the 2x12 is killer .....wow
Both nice but the AC15 twin stands out.
I think you were a bit too gentle here Johan, these guys sounds awesome when you dig in. I have an AC15HW and it's raunchy as hell when played hard.
+Ernesto Del Baño Hi! They are maxed out but the guitars have low output pickups. And the reissues have more gain. Cheers
