Vox amps are my absolute favourite! Every single one of these sounded awesome! Whenever I hear one of your Marshall or Fender comparisons I can always pick out my favourites, but with these they're all winners!
Great job, Johan. I'd love to see a Vox comparison. What really surprised me in this was how well the new AC10 holds up to is legendary brethren. One of my faves out of them all. I gotta get one bad.
That AC15 at the beginning of the video was pretty sweet. I own an AC10C1 combo and love it. There were some other interesting amps in the early days. The AC10 SRT comes to mind. Great video. Liked and subscribed.
AC30 Trapezoid is my choice, but I think that's because of Marshall cab. And I would be very grateful and happy if you could do more demos with a Strat or SG, Les Paul is kind of too sharp for my ears sometimes.
Johan da man. Soon i'll be in need of a new mouse due to all the thumbs up. The class and versatility of the stuff you show - goes for the amps just as well as for your playing AND your riffs - is just golden. And just so you know, i'm using lots of your vids as sonic blueprints for my amp and cab-sims. SO YOU SERVE EVIL AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Thank you for showing us!
No it's the opposite with Vox, that stands for brands like Fender, Hiwatt, Mesa Boogie etc generally speaking. But you can not have everything at once.
They are definitely good amps, but man you do them justice, you're a great rock player and you know what you do with those amp knobs... just perfect setting everytime! wow, I already subbed to your channel , I'm gonna sub another time... wait..
Johan, on some of those older Vox amps (AC15 in particular), there are two really different channels-the tremolo channel, which uses a 12AX7 tube, and the normal channel, which uses an EF86 tube. If you did another Vox comparison video, it would be cool to highlight the differences between these two! The EF86 is a pentode tube that has more gain and higher bandwidth. The higher bandwidth is somewhat responsible for that early Vox sound: thick, yet chimey. It would also be neat to have a segment of the video where you run the amps through the same speaker cab. This would really highlight the differences/similarities between the various Vox circuits. Awesome videos and great work!
As an owner of the new AC15hw1x, I loved that 1963 ac15. My tone is not the same tbh, but it's still amazing. I love my master volume, which allows me to cook those tubes at low volumes. It's a lot of amp for the price. I could never afford a pre-1970's Vox. I will replace the tubes with NOS Mullards. One tube at a time! Love the videos :-)
Would love to see a direct comparison between all these amps! I’ll probably end up pulling the trigger on a Vox now after hearing you play through these...I spent more money on gear in the past year since I discovered your channel than I have since I started playing guitar hahaha
Great playing, and great amps. I also really like when you bust out the Epiphone or the Squier, cool to see cheap guitars with an awesome player and good sounding amps.
Johan! great tone you got! I've been following your videos for quite a time. The 1965 AC30s at 1:55 reminds me of Brian May's tone! I really enjoy these experiments! Great job!
I acquired a 1977 Dallas Arbiter handwired AC30 with blackback G12Ms the other week for less than the price of a new C2! I'm digging it, it's had the reverb tank removed and the reverb pot wired up as a master volume so I can get some killer preamp distortion at bedroom levels. Will take it to a tech in the new year for some TLC. Edit: perhaps a comparison of different era AC30s would interest your viewers?
Awesome tone. Classic! Quite a woofy thick tone. The bass and mids! no wonder guys used a treble booster. We definitely need a treble booster shootout! Cheers
I reaaaaalllyyy want an AC15! I'm hoping to get one this Christmas. I can't decide if I want a DSL40C, an AC15, or a Blues Deluxe Reissue. In an ideal world, I'd get all three plus a 1987X and a Supro Dual Tone. Great video Johan! I always enjoy hearing you play!
I think people forget who good Vox amps can sound!!! I know i have :-) I love it.. I always thought a Vox and a les paul was a no no... guess i was wrong big time :-) Yet another great Demo Johan :-)
Nice. I am a fan of Vox. As a Christmas present to my self, I just recently gotten my self a Vox AC30CH. I am using with a Marshal 4 by 12. I also have a Vox AC15VR combo, and a Vox Pathfinder 15R. I use the Pathfinder 15R and the AC15VR together. AC15VR set up with clean, and the Pathfinder 15R with boost on. Running both at the same time give a tone that I love that I could not get if I just use them on there own..... I would love to see you do an other Vox shoot out video, but with a 9th Vox amp, the Pathfinder 15R. However, considering that Vox don't make the Pathfinder 15R anymore, odd's are that it will have to be a second hand one. If you do that. I would bring joy to my Australian hart.
+1 for more voxes. Don't forget to also try a strat, I missed that in these videos. Also it would be nice to investigate Marshall+Celestion Blue vs AC30+Celestion Blue or some other uncommon speaker+amp combinations
AC10 and AC15 were my favorites. Loved the brothers Segeborn jams!! Honestly though I'd trade all the Vox amps for any of the Forsberg's or the Offset. Rock on bro.
Nice seeing some love for Vox. That trapeze is badass. If you do an in depth comparison it would be nice if you could do the AC50 and maybe the AC100 as well.
Johan, I recently found an absolute hidden gem of an amp, the egnater renegade is the bet amp I've heard, it's gain channel is a Marshall style tone but on steroids. It's so gainy and tough sounding but it never fizzes out on you or gets dull. If you can get your hands on it please do!
I would dare say that most of the sonic difference is in the speakers and cabinets. The amps have different compression, breakup and feel.. but I think the larger difference in sound is the cabinets.
Hey Johan love your channel! Big fans from Brazil! I would like to know what do you think about this. I'm in a 70s style rock band, with 2 guitarists, and I want something to hit the pre amp(the front) of my marshall dsl 100 to get a solo boost(cause I dont like to use the Fx loop). It is a very loud band, and I want to be able to play over the other guitarist when soloing. What should I do? Treble boost would work? Shelving the bottom end and boosting the treble? (rig= les paul and marshall dsl100)
Johan Segeborn Yes, I know. I was in Goteborg in 2012, and I remember, that many instruments was less expensive, than here. By the way: HAGSTROM guitars are so rare, and suddenly surprise was, that in Sweden they was OK. Not so HUGE PRICE. Maybe I'll go to Sweden next summer. I want back to Grebbeshtadt - so lovely place! Actually, I was living in Norway, but thats not so far away. E6 highway was my "Stareway To Heaven". So my last alboom we called " E-6", because the lot of songs were written on the road.:-)) Oh, if I could stay in Scandinavia - I could be happiest man in the world. But Norway is very hard for relocation, and Sweden - I dont know enough to say something about, but all this area - just Paradise. After my funny town - Jerusalem (Arizona State), Goteborg and Stockholm was amasing!
Nice to see the Vox AC10 held up really well, I love mine. What speakers did you use in the 210 with that amp? I’ve got the Greenback reissue I dig it. Thanks!
Hey Johan! I know it is out of topic but I need your wisdom: I want to buy a Fender Bassbreaker 18/30 Combo amp and the question is, Can I use an attenuator with it? Because, I want to use it at home/studio when I'm not in a gig, enjoying the amp at it's full.
Great job as always ! My favourite are : 1) 2016 Vox AC10 with 2x10 Celestion and a 2016 Epiphone Les Paul Special II Ltd. 2) 2016 Vox AC4 with a G12M25 Greenback Reissue and a 2016 Squier Telecaster Affinity. 3)1965 Vox AC30 Piggy Back with Alnico Silvers (Kurt Mueller recone) and 2013 Gibson SG Standard Custom Shop. I notice that I prefer the most cheap combination : they sound very good or my ears start to be compromised ? :)
IMHO 1. AC15 Twin 2. AC30 1965 Joker: UL710 lovely amp! The newer ones sound a little sharp to me. Too HIFI. Also the speakers need to wear in. And probably most people would complain if a new amp sounded as mellow as these AC15 and AC30. But that is part of the secret i guess. :-)
hey, johan! love this voxy tone- what main power you have in sweden?220-230v like austria ? Ihave a friend in england he want ship me an ac 15+30 but whats happened whith this power supplies? a variac? rockn rolly!
+Francis Skundaliny Hi Francis! Glad to hear that. Yeah we have about 230V in Sweden. I think they have 240V in UK. I would use that as-is in your sockets. But you could get a variac or a dedicated transformer too. Cheers
the 65 AC30 head with the SG was just wunderbar
3:42 EVERYTIME that riffs is played. I just bop my head of enjoyment. So cool :)
+roeletti Glad to hear that! :-D
I've missed that riff :-)
@@JohanSegeborn yeah, what is the riff? I've noticed it in several videos, it's so funky
That UL710 it's just KILLER
Love the thick tone of the '65 AC30 combo. The Johan trio jams at the end are great !!
+Byron Laird Thanks man, great to hear that!
It’s a shame I can only press the ‘like’ button once. Good stuff, sir.
+Matt Mckivigan Hahaha,Thanks my friend!
Vox amps are my absolute favourite! Every single one of these sounded awesome! Whenever I hear one of your Marshall or Fender comparisons I can always pick out my favourites, but with these they're all winners!
+DNKOTOR Thanks! Good to hear that!
Wow, the UL710 and the 60s AC15 are really outstanding. I hadn't heard the of the UL710 until this video.
Wow, I didn't knew Vox Amps could be so versatile! Great job Johan!
+Yann E. Thanks! :-)
The UL710 sounds fantastic! The cab surely has a lot of influence, but it's much more percussive like a Marshall. A great blend
they have a cathodyne phase inverter, looking at the schematics, it seems (and sounds) kinda vox take on tweed deluxe
This times really well with the article on music radar released today about vox celebrating 60 years. Great demo
+Krish Patel Thanks Krish!
www.musicradar.com/news/the-history-of-vox-celebrating-6-decades-of-tone
It's such a pleasure hearing these vintage amps, unbelievable!
Own the 2016 Vox AC10 - it's a powerfull little beast!
+Blueslurch It is indeed!
Great job, Johan. I'd love to see a Vox comparison. What really surprised me in this was how well the new AC10 holds up to is legendary brethren. One of my faves out of them all. I gotta get one bad.
+SirVicconius Thanks, yeah the new Voxes hold up really well
Johan Segeborn see if you can get ahold of the new Vox MV50 AC and compare it to its parents
My favourites are definitely the AC 30 Trapezoid and the UL710. Great video as always :D
+gyrosphinx Thanks, glad to hear it!
+1 for the in depth comparison! I remember when the channel had 2-3k subs, well done man!
+Matthew Mooney Thanks man! :-)
All great top three ...Trapezoid Head - 1963 AC15 and 2016 AC10 great mix
+Gerry Loughran Thanks Gerry!
Looking cold on that balcony.
Vox is just as badass as Marshall, plus it can do cleans. Both pillars of classic rock tone. Great video.
+David Giles Thanks David! :-)
Love the UL head!!! It's got a Hot Rolling Stones type tone that's Awesome!!!
+Big Daddy Ramrod Thanks, I loved the UL too!
You did it again Mr Segeborn.. you made me wanna buy another amp.
+superstardestroyer92 Hahaha, Sorry about that ;-)
I learn so much from your videos. Thanks again, Johan!
+Bumblefritz I’m glad to hear that! Cheers Johan
That groove you play at 3:42 is killer
+jamie c Thanks Jamie, great to hear that!
Sounds a little like VH's "Ice Cream Man." Edit: no, duh, sorry - I meant "Beautiful Girls."
Yeah, I love that one. Heard you play it before but it's as cool as hell. Love this vid, Johan. Where's that album, mate? :)
I thought it was like "last child" by aerosmith
Killer indeed Johan !!! Send us a tab for that riff please !!!
That AC15 at the beginning of the video was pretty sweet. I own an AC10C1 combo and love it. There were some other interesting amps in the early days. The AC10 SRT comes to mind. Great video. Liked and subscribed.
+TheColonelKlink Glad to hear it. Welcome to the channel!
Johan Segeborn You bet. And thanks.
hell yea johan, ive been waiting on the day u do a shootout of vox
+Max G Thanks man, glad to hear it. A bigger Vox Comparison is coming up!
AC30 Trapezoid is my choice, but I think that's because of Marshall cab. And I would be very grateful and happy if you could do more demos with a Strat or SG, Les Paul is kind of too sharp for my ears sometimes.
That UL 710 sure holds its own. But the throatiness of the ac 15 twin always gets me going.
hello, Johan! Yes for the direct comparison video! With Les Paul and Strat, please! :)
+Iago B Will be coming up soon!
Johan da man. Soon i'll be in need of a new mouse due to all the thumbs up. The 63 AC15 Twin is THE sound! In depth review for sure
Holy Smokes, that UL 710 rips with some smokin Stones tone. Brown Sugar was just itching to get out.
Fantastic video! You really brought out the best in those Vox amps.
+NortonNice Great to hear that, Thanks!
I like all the 1965 amps.
+Scott Locaputo Thanks Scott!
Vox really has that 70s Classic rock sound. I also heard they have tons of headroom?
No it's the opposite with Vox, that stands for brands like Fender, Hiwatt, Mesa Boogie etc generally speaking. But you can not have everything at once.
Crunch crunch crunch it’s Vox for lunch! Yum!
+hrstrat57 Hahaha! Cheers :-)
Vox overdriven tone is very cool - for me, loved #1 and 4. Cheers
They are definitely good amps, but man you do them justice, you're a great rock player and you know what you do with those amp knobs... just perfect setting everytime! wow, I already subbed to your channel , I'm gonna sub another time... wait..
+Julki Tan Thanks my friend ;-)

Awesome videos and great work!
+Josh Neilson Thanks Josh, great feedback, I’ll implement that in the comparison! Cheers Johan
Looking forward to it!
This was a great idea, I think Vox made some of the best rhythm guitar amps. Thanks Johan! Class A chime
As an owner of the new AC15hw1x, I loved that 1963 ac15. My tone is not the same tbh, but it's still amazing. I love my master volume, which allows me to cook those tubes at low volumes. Those ac30 heads sound so good
+Nomad13 Thanks!
That trapezoid.. Holy smoke that sounds good!
Thanks, Johan! I always love a good Vox tone. Like the tone Rory Gallagher had on the "Deuce" album. Killer sound.
Would love to see a direct comparison between all these amps! I’ll probably end up pulling the trigger on a Vox now after hearing you play through these...I spent more money on gear in the past year since I discovered your channel than I have since I started playing guitar hahaha
+Dagger 323 Hahaha! I’m sorry about that ;-)
3:42....it always feel like a good movie sound track....aviator sun glass and a Oldsmobile...its about 27°c and its a very good day...cheers!!!
The UL 710 for me ! :)
+Max Max Amazing amp indeed :-)
Great playing, and great amps. I also really like when you bust out the Epiphone or the Squier, cool to see cheap guitars with an awesome player and good sounding amps.
The UL 710 sounds amazing. Is there anything modern that tries to do/model that sort of sound?
They all sound great-I have a 65 trapezoid also😎
Vidéo juste géniale !!! My favorite amp ! Vox all the time ! Merci Johan
+steph C Thanks Steph!
Your a Vox player all the way Johan such a great sound all of them!!
+Brandon Hupp Thanks Brandon!
Great vid as usual - I especially liked the footage of the amp guts/circuits. Would love to see more of this!
That AC10 was a little monster!
Johan! great tone you got! I've been following your videos for quite a time. The 1965 AC30s at 1:55 reminds me of Brian May's tone! I really enjoy these experiments! Great job!
Awwww ... was hoping for an AC50!
Those new, little Vox aren't half bad! :)
I see winter has come your way as well, the trapazoid has a sweet sound all its own.
+stepvan Joe Yeah that’s an Amazing saturated tone. It’s great to get some snow, it’s really dark in Sweden this time of year.
65 AC30 was awesome !!
+renoman_ 89502 Thanks!
The 1965 UL 710 is very unusual and an ultra-rare VOX amplifier.
+alecboyyes That’s a really good idea!
I like the second Vox AC-30 amp that you played with a Gibson SG. It had a nice tight tone to it.
Awesome tone. Classic! Quite a woofy thick tone. The bass and mids! no wonder guys used a treble booster.
We definitely need a treble booster shootout! Cheers
Love the drumming.
+sandysingssongs I’m really glad to hear that!
UL 710 was amazing
+Shawn T. Bell Thanks!
The 65 trapezoid ac30 sounded awsome
I reaaaaalllyyy want an AC15! I'm hoping to get one this Christmas. I can't decide if I want a DSL40C, an AC15, or a Blues Deluxe Reissue. In an ideal world, I'd get all three plus a 1987X and a Supro Dual Tone.
Great video Johan! I always enjoy hearing you play!
Those are all my favorite amps also throw in a two rock and a Matchless 😁
@@lastofthe4horsemen279 Those are my favorite amps too! I ended up with a Supro Dual Tone and a Vox AC4
I think my new favorite amp is Doug & Pat's Vox AC10 Super Reverb Twin. Sounds insane with their Les Paul(s).
Awesome vid. We need the full demo please.
This trapezoid !!! Nice and hudge !
Yes, more Vox please, Johan :)
+TheAnonymousBosch More is coming up! :-)
Thanks Johan, most interesting!
thanks johan! ROCKN ROLLY!
+1 for more voxes. Don't forget to also try a strat, I missed that in these videos. Also it would be nice to investigate Marshall+Celestion Blue vs AC30+Celestion Blue or some other uncommon speaker+amp combinations
+David - Hi, I’ll include Strat too. Here’s Strat for the two AC15 amps:
ruclips.net/video/SwE5zIXaZng/видео.html
AC10 and AC15 were my favorites. Loved the brothers Segeborn jams!! Honestly though I'd trade all the Vox amps for any of the Forsberg's or the Offset. Rock on bro.
+jcoulter43 Thanks bro! Yeah Forsberg, Pure Tone Amps and Alexander Niemand Design sees a lot of use around here!
Tasty sounds!
Nice seeing some love for Vox. That trapeze is badass. If you do an in depth comparison it would be nice if you could do the AC50 and maybe the AC100 as well.
+sliskenswe Thanks, I’ll keep those in mind!
More Vox for sure!
Do you have a favorite or top two or three of all the vintage VOX amps you've played & what you loved about them?
Was it the 1963 AC30?
Hey Johan love your channel! Big fans from Brazil! I would like to know what do you think about this. I'm in a 70s style rock band, with 2 guitarists, and I want something to hit the pre amp(the front) of my marshall dsl 100 to get a solo boost(cause I dont like to use the Fx loop). Yes please do a comparison for vox
Amazing !!!
+Gustavo Jazz Thanks Gustavo!
More Vox! Maybe a new vs old comparison? Can you play the Stiletto video jam? Awesome!
Looks cold up there in Svendenlund!
+Alien University Hahaha, that’s accurate. :-/ Cheers :-)
I would redo this video... using a strat to demonstrate clean sounds ! amazing
Hallo, Johan! Nice to see you again! :-)Vox must be good! Excelent amps, but a little expencive... I dont know, but mean price must be about 800$. No?
+Zigfrid Washburn Hi Zigfrid! I think they’re more expensive in US than in Europe. They’re relatively affordable here in Sweden
Johan Segeborn Yes, I know. I was in Goteborg in 2012, and I remember, that many instruments was less expensive, than here. Any chances of doing a demo on Vox nightrain nt15? I like to hear if they can sound like vintage ac13. Awesome channel!!
Johan does it again
4:00 probably the least expensive rig out of all, but in the top 3 for sure!
Great job as always !
My favourite are :
1) 2016 Vox AC10 with 2x10 Celestion and a 2016 Epiphone Les Paul Special II Ltd.
+FABIO CORDONI Thanks Fabio, no the new ones do indeed hold up really well. Cheers!
1:50 my favourite. Vox gain sound rivals any Marshall gain sound for me.
+BernardShakey Thanks Bernard! That one is indeed the most classic and archetypical Vox gain out of these amps. Cheers
IMHO
1. AC15 Twin
2. AC30 1965
Joker: UL710 lovely amp!
The newer ones sound a little sharp to me. Too HIFI. Also the speakers need to wear in. And probably most people would complain if a new amp sounded as mellow as these AC15 and AC30. But that is part of the secret i guess. :-)

what tuning did you use in the video of mortal loudness Marshall 3 full stack ?
Lets think do we want johan to do a comparison video of classic Vox amps mmmm. Hell yeah😂😂. If you answered no think your on the wrong channel 😂😂😂😂
+Darren C Hahaha ;-) Cheers Darren!
Hey @Johan Segeborn is it possible that i spotted you in the crowd at the Mastodon concert in stockholm ? :)
I was hoping you had a Korg/Marshall reissue Vox AC30/6 TB in the lineup. I had one a few years back and it was a killer.
Not vox related, but would still love to see a comparison of a Marshall JCM 800 2203 compared to a Plexi. At full volume of course ;)
just out of curiosity Johan how do you manage to get your hands on all these classic amps? awesome video as always!
