Hey Lou :) hairdresser here - On the colour wheel purple is opposite to yellow, and blue is opposite to orange. Because your hair is about a level 8, it is showing brassy tones (as opposed to yellow tones) so purple isn't going to be strong enough to neutralise those tones. I would recommend a blue shampoo like Fanola No Orange for your hair colour ! It's going to be a lot stronger to neutralise the darker brassy tones as purple only really works on pale blonde hair.
I know for non hairdressers it's actually hard to navigate the thousands of products out there. There are just so many. Just my 2 cents - Lou I personally think your hair looks fab :)
Jasmine Rogers Lou's highlights look to be a level 8. In a level 8 you see 'gold' tones that are in between orange and yellow. If it's quite orange I'd say it's closer to a level 7. You always want to tone on level. So if it's a level 8, with brassy tones - both orange and yellow - I would use a level 8 pearl, or a level 8 ash-violet because the ash will tackle the orange tones and the violet will tackle the yellow tones. Keep in mind when hair is warm toned it always looks lighter, because warmth reflects more light, so when you use a toner your hair will always look a little bit darker. Make sure with a toner you're only using 5volume developer because anything stronger will cause lift in the areas that are still virgin hair (like the roots and the sections left out between highlights) and it can turn them orange.
When I feel like my hair is looking a little too orange vs a little too yellow, I use Fanola No Orange Shampoo. It works better than anything else I have ever tried, and I have tried everything!
Cinnabun you can buy it on amazon, prices depend on which size you get and they change occasionally. Today when I looked it up, a 350ml bottle is $13.75 USD, and a 1000ml bottle is $19.99 USD both on amazon.
I think "brassy" gets a bad rep, unless you're aiming for a platinum blonde. I've always envied your golden blonde color that I think is fabulous with your skin tone. I used to add a cap-or-three of ash blonde to my light blonde hair color to remove brassiness when I was young but now feel more gold is better around my face. Sometimes drabbing down blonde hair results in a dullness that makes the complexion look lifeless. I've also tried those gold and red shampoos that are supposed to add a little color but they never worked and seemed harder on my fine hair. I saw no difference between your two sides - a good thing IMHO.
Jax T Gets a bad rep my ass. It’s about your skin tone. If you have cool toned, white or pink tones, brassy hair does not look good at all unless you got a summer tan going on... Brassy and warm hair is good for people with warm skin or people who tan well.
@@bperez8656 jeez why so aggressive though its just hair and yes it does I see millions of videos about toning orange out but nothing else its so redundant. Literally impossible to find videos on toning red, orange, etc. Just yellow.
also want to mention a lot of people want to get rid of their warm tones when it suits them better, hence it having a bad rep. She looks way younger before she puts on the toner. Purple shampoo has been over hyped for some reason. No shade on her though she's just trying it out. Sometimes you don't know until you see it on yourself. Just sucks to see people waste their money.
I saw it too. Definitely a difference. But could have left it in longer, that would have given even more of a difference. I would say 20 min. I do purple shampoo too. :)
You do it on wet hair - squeeze the water out and apply shampoo lather and let it penetrate. You must do it on wet hair because water opens hair cuticles and allows for the purple to enter inside the hair shaft and tone the brassy colors. If you apply on dry hair , hair cuticles are closed therefore shampoo can’t enter inside and that’s why you see no results. Good luck next time. I hope this helps ;)
@@cariwalker7549 yes you should wash your hair to remove any product buildup therefore ensure even penetration of the purple to remove those pesky orange tones from your hair. Yes I can definitely see the difference. The purple shampoo worked. It would have worked better on wet hair bc water helps hair become more penetrable.
I’m a cooler blonde, so I use a purple shampoo once or twice a week (let it sit for 3 minutes or so while I wash my bod) followed by a good conditioner. It keeps my color from going brassy. I think blue shampoo is recommended for warmer blondes. I think. 😉 You crack me up. 💋
@@Hayata_dair_hersey95 I'm in the process of going blonde and I've had two sessions so far. It was black to start with and after the first sitting it was a very light brown but because it'd been stripped with bleach and had only lifted to an orange colour you could still see a lot of warmth coming through the neutral brown she used. It looked lovely, I really liked it. It's the base colour for the highlights I've got in now, well a full head of foils so it's pretty much all of my hair with bits of the base colour showing. Now it's still got quite a lot of yellow in it but it was only done yesterday and she's told me to start using purple shampoo and I'm back in six weeks for a full head of foils again and she thinks I'll get the colour I want then. They can't believe, and neither can I, how much it's lifted in two sittings from jet black box dyed hair. I'm gonna put purple shampoo on mine tomorrow, on dry hair and leave it for 5 mins to see if it takes out the yellow that's in.

I know this is an older video, but I wanted to mention that I've tried several different purple/ blue shampoos. Today I used Provoke Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo and it made an incredible difference in my hair. It contains both purple and blue shampoo in the same bottle and I guess my hair needed the combo together because neither one separately did much.

I'm the same level 8 blonde as you are and purple shampoo tones my hair really well..I just have to leave it on at least 30 min to an hour. Since our hair isn't a lighter blonde, the directions for 5 min won't work on us. I'd rather take the time once a week to use the purple shampoo instead of a chemical toner. It leaves a really pretty neutral almost ash blonde.
When I used purple shampoo the first time, I left it in for 40 minutes ;) And that made a huuuge difference!! So try that! And now I just mix it with my normal shampoo and put it in once in a while, it works!
I can definitely see a difference. I actually fast forward to the end of the video to see if I could figure out what side you had done before I watched and to me it's a noticeable difference 🤷♀️
Using purple shampoo while wearing all white...you are brave! I actually love the color of your hair. I definitely see a small difference but it all looks great! 💕
On my experience on orange and brassy hair I use half bottle of 050 Wella purple lights and whole bottle of Wella T18 ashy blonde with 2 parts of 20 developer . It was the perfect combination to get rid of the orange and brassyness. I was so happy with the results.
I see a difference. I've been wanting to mention that your hair looked brassy but didn't want to hurt your feelings. I had REALLY brassy hair back in the 90's and wish someone would have told me. I ended up going to a professional colorist that took care of the orange without damage. Then I got some nice bronzer and whoa, I looked alive again.
I see a slight difference. Also, I liked your hair color it looked classy and such a pretty color. If it was a natural color people would just say it was gorgeous. Because they know you dye they have to have something to say about it I've always loved it and thought it was awesome.

Hi i have tried so many, the real one is Pravana, The perfect Blonde,You have to be careful if you use both shampoo and the conditioner. It could take a real not purple, but lavender, for me it is ok. I love it. By the way , i did notice a little bit brighter, on the side you used it. That is the maximum outcome you are going to experience. Pravana, is quite expensive ,but does what we all want. I hope you can save that beautiful cardigan.
I have fun with my purple shampoo. My hair is naturally blonde and it pulls purple gray platinum sometimes blue tones depending on how long I leave it in. People always compliment my hair color and ask how I did it. Everyone's hair works differently, so just because something works for me, doesnt mean itll work for everyone.
Hey Lou! So brassiness refers to warmer tones (like orangeish or reddish tones) that blonde can pick up from the water you wash with, minerals etc. Don't know if its just me but I thought the side you washed with purple shampoo was a bit brighter after!
At Sallys they sell just the purple stuff and you can add it to any shampoo you like. I use it every time I wash, leave it in about 30 min. Then condition, and rince!
I work at Sally beauty and I am also a licensed cosmetologist and I would really suggest the new headwear blondastic shampoo and conditioner. They work amazing and there is no sulfate and no parabens. With the generic shimmer lights shampoo it was very drying but with the headwear one it’s not, plus if you have a toner in your hair it won’t strip out the toner as well.
Actually I’m glad it didn’t change the color, it’s beautiful the way it is! Beautiful hair color with your complexion and your makeup looks gorgeous too!!! And only 40, girl strut your stuff, on that catwalk! Meow!!😘
Hey! I see the difference, is not big but is there! Quick tip, start brushing your hair in the ends, otherwise you are going to lose too many hairs! Love the video ❤
I’m going out today to get that stuff. I have a Jhirmack low-tint version and it’s just not intense enough as it’s made for daily users - I only shampoo 2x a week as my hair doesn’t get really dirty . So my version has little or no effect but when I borrowed the high pigment version it made a huge difference. My yellows were gone and I was left with a very silvery silver, like a freshly minted quarter! Time to go to Sally’s. Thx sugar!
Purple shampoo really only works on super blonde hair I use it a few times a month and it really does help my blonde highlights stay nice and crisp platinum.
Gloves, a black shirt, and the bathroom is where I'm at and applying purple shampoo. I literally have it everywhere and she's got nothing lol. Awesome job!!! 👏
I just wanted to say that I think it's very rude that any hairdresser would send u rude comments. I just happened to stumble onto your video. But I am also a hairdresser and I think your hair looks absolutely amazing. I think it's the right color for your skin tone. I'm also a firm believer in if something works for you do it. And I think what you do to your hair is very nice. I also have to say your absolutely gorgeous!!! If someone has a problem with the way you do your hair and there actually a professional hair stylist then they should give you helpful advice. That's what a professional would do. Not send hateful comments
I have never used a purple shampoo, was a natural and bleached blonde for years, but I'm wondering why there aren't more purple or blue conditioners. I would think those would make more of an impact, plus healthier to leave on hair. Possibly, answered my own question with the word impact. :D Now, I've created my own purple conditioner with Artic Fox, nonetheless the results aren't going to help blondes much for obvious reasons. :P
I have used shimmer lights, and I hate it. It dries my hair out and smells terrible. I use fanola no orange, and I love it! The no orange is more for darker oranges and brassiness. I bet it would tone your hair!
This is my first ever video watching of yours and I could tell you I didn’t expect you to make jokes like “ooo penetrate” or “I’m gonna show you my part...not that part” and yet be so subtle guess who just subscribed
Using demi permanent colors with 10 volume developer is the best to use. It doesn't leave bad lines. It lasts longer. Use the color on the opposite side of the color wheel to determine what shade you need to neutralize the brasdy tones.
Seeing this for the first time, researching purple shampoo for my niece. OMG I love your sense of humor. So glad RUclips recommended your video. I actually do see a slight difference. Headed to your channel now to see what else you got there!
First of all, Lou, a pretty ivory top is your outfit of choice for applying this purple goo- perhaps just to give us all anxiety😰?? Hope it washes out! Secondly, I actually do see a slight difference, but I think both sides look very pretty. Maybe the effects of the shampoo are cumulative or maybe it does work better on wet hair? Lastly it was so fun to hear you say "God verdorie"- my first boss was Dutch and he used to say that all the time (not to me, of course😉)
I put it in dry. I think it works better, so you didn’t do anything wrong. I’ll dampen it and let it sit longer when I get into the shower or tub, and then rinse it. I love your videos. I was chuckling from your good humor the whole time 😂
I used a purple shampoo the same way she does.. a couple of days ago.. my hair is maybe 1-2 shades lighter than hers and it turned some of my hair very silverish🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ and i only had it In for 5 minutes.. (the bottle sad 10-15 minutes) regretting every life decision at this point🤦🏼♀️
Purple turns orange hair, more orange, with my experience. The base line is red in a violet shampoo conditioner.. I use baking soda and a drop of vinegar on my hair, to rid the honey orange look.. The water you shower in, along with products that have colors to them, will also grab to hair and change the color..
WHO ELSE HAS THE MOST ANXIETY RIGHT NOW.....doing that in that nice white shirt......
Omg wearing white!
OMG my ocd was in overdrive 😃😂
Just a part of Lou’s comedic genius.
Yes, I couldn't believe she wore white!

I noticed it on the ends of that side
I was told to lather it till the bubbles were white and not purple anymore, and i feel like that has always helped me!
Omg ! I use the Generic brand from sally's too because of the smell!!! The original shimmer lights smells hive inducing, i totally agree
At Sallys they sell just the purple stuff and you can add it to any shampoo you like. I use it every time I wash, leave it in about 30 min. Then condition, and rince!
Really? I've never seen it. What's it called?
@@MsBarbara.651, Red Gold Corrector Plus, Ardel makes it. It's about 7 bucks and I can make several bottles of shampoo.
@@sharonchanks9364 awesome!!! Thank you so much.
I actually sort of love the purple look on you. DYE IT PURPLE!
Meow!!😘
I got anxious with the white shirt omg
I definitely see a difference? Looks brighter on the side you used the toning shampoo
Hey! I see the difference, is not big but is there! Quick tip, start brushing your hair in the ends, otherwise you are going to lose too many hairs! Love the video ❤
Brassy? Nonsense. Looks beautiful. I see a slight difference on the purple side. A bit brighter over there.
How do you get platinum? I try and end up with grey and purple hair
@@Cocopuffs12344 then you left it in too long
Gloves, a black shirt, and the bathroom is where I'm at and applying purple shampoo. I literally have it everywhere and she's got nothing lol. Awesome job!!! 👏
Lou I can totally see the difference!!
Me too
I think that it really did work! It's a slight tonal difference, makes it a little lighter/brighter
I was shook when you said ‘godverdomme’ 😂😂 loved that
Marlies de Lege Haha ik ook!
Yessss i just purchased last month finally i do stilll mix with adore semi in tge bottle like 2 ounces in the bkue shampoo
This is my first ever video watching of yours and I could tell you I didn’t expect you to make jokes like “ooo penetrate” or “I’m gonna show you my part...not that part” and yet be so subtle
guess who just subscribed
Same. Amazing
Girl you have to try the fanola no orange shampoo its beyond amazing, they also have a purple 💜 shampoo as well, super pro product.
Yasss
I see a little brightness! Love your videos you crack me up!
Seen a significant difference, screenshot before and after the shampoo it’s def brighter , nice work ☝🏽
“...wear ponytails to the gym. Don’t please don’t.” HAHAHAHA it had to be said 🤝
Maybe some people 😉 think it ""Matters..." Whatever... I think women should be free to be... "Whatever." At 62+ I am.
Using demi permanent colors with 10 volume developer is the best to use. It doesn't leave bad lines. It lasts longer. Use the color on the opposite side of the color wheel to determine what shade you need to neutralize the brasdy tones.
Consider brushing or combing your hair from the ends to the roots when it's wet. Less breakage and damage.
Love the energy in your video…confident yet calm
I was chuckling from your good humor the whole time 😂
Omg you look like a young Jennifer Saunders from Absolutely Fabulous! 😍
Hi George. It is nicer to say Learning Disabilities these days! We stopped saying mentally handicapped in the 80's here in the UK! Bless ya x 😊
How cool...you speak hieroglyphic! 😄 Love your sense if humor! Thanks for the fun video!
GIRL, YOU DOUBLE WHITE SHIRTED UP ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON, I love your delivery and energy, let's hang out.
I am Arabic and you
I love your relaxed style and candidness! Thank you.
My favorite purple shampoos are the unite blonda toning shampoo, and the Amika purple shampoo , both smell good and not drying !!
“The bottle has issues, and so do I” LOOOOL
I see a difference it sure looked bright and flawless
😂🤣gawd i love this lady. Her delivery is hilarious.
I don’t know what it is about her but she’s super funny to me, love!!!
Orginal dawn dish soap will get out the weird color. Just be sure to moisturize well afterward
wow.....I love your hair but I sure like the purple side better! I have to get this! xxoo
I think it looked a bit better but agree on the Fanola No Orange for that shade... Never change! xoxo
Purple turns orange hair, more orange, with my experience.
The base line is red in a violet shampoo conditioner..
I use baking soda and a drop of vinegar on my hair, to rid the honey orange look..
The water you shower in, along with products that have colors to them, will also grab to hair and change the color..
