Hi Ed, what microphone do you use in your street activism?
^^^^^^^
It's because of idiots like this twat that people think veganism is the answer to anything or some kind of consistent ethical framework. If you're opposition is this guy then you'd be reasonable to assume you're in the right, it's a shame that's not the case. Stay curious, stay safe.
@@rorylee3582 "Veganism is the answer to anything." Well, that's really awkward phrasing. It's make more sense to say, 'veganism is the answer to everything', but in any case, I'm sure vegans know that that's not true. Adopting a plant-based diet on world-wide basis would be very helpful, but it wouldn't leave us with no more problems to solve.
However, it important to note that veganism isn't just about people eating plants-only for the environment (although there are certainly ethical arguments to be made for that), but rather it's really about un-alienating animals from their right to live and not be exploited by others, it's about expanding our circles of inclusion, and so on. And veganism in action is defined as abstaining from using animals to greatest of one's abilities, to the extent that it does the least harm possible.
Vegans _do_ believe that if more and more people do this, eventually animal liberation will be achieved. It is our hope that if people aren't taught to take it for granted the it's all right and normal to commodify and oppress sentient beings other than humans, they'll be less likely to do it to other humans. So, in that sense, we do think veganism can solve many problems, but not all
@@rorylee3582 But yeah the guy above you is a misogynist and we hope that there will be fewer of them in the future. If one doesn't look down on animals, maybe one won't look down on people, and maybe one won't view femininity as an inherently undesirable thing and use it as an insult. _Maybe._
It’s crazy how for 18 years I never considered why cows produce milk and what they went through to get that milk in my glass. Can’t believe how ignorant I was. Vegan for over a year now, thanks for opening my eyes Ed :)
it's sad they don't teach this in school, all kids should know where their food comes from, but since it's too distressing and not good for business, they won't
That's why they need to keep it out of mainstream eyes. It's horribly wrong. Like you, alot of people would start to reconsider.
@@theveganvillainess2404 but they do spend billions on misleading happy smiling winking cows images and the disinfo humane slaughter propaganda to keep folks ignorant ! all for profit machine and the ignorant are literally paying to ruin their health. i couldn't make this stuff up if i tried =( sad

Bryce A That is awesome to hear! The tides are turning slowly but surely.
Kieran Jones It’s actually easy to thrive on a vegan diet. Which 15 nutrients do we need that we can’t get from plants?
@Kieran Jones Hindus have been living dead animal flesh free for ages........ We don't need any animal products..... It's only for taste.....that too without all spices just flesh has no taste..........try a vegan diet at least for a month..... Then get your blood tests done if you find some nutrition missing you can always go back to eating it

Hugh Jas he is really thinking about what idiots they were lol
@@aaronmerkel5216 I saw Ed give a quiet sigh when that guy wouldn't shut up about how the cows loved being milked and raped.
@Speaking Truth you do realize that they produce milk for their baby calves, right? If we didn't take their babies away right when they're born then they wouldn't be in pain, the babies would be drinking the milk like they're supposed to.
@Speaking Truth that is true. But the point is we artificially inseminate them so they have a baby and then we take the baby right after birth. We shouldn't be raping the cows in the first place to make them produce milk, then it wouldn't be a problem.
Coyotes are pests because they kill other wildlife? That's literally the way the ecosystem survives 🤦♀️
What does that make humans, I wonder? Wish Ed had asked that lol.
@@venus_envy entropic particles
@@amandawolfe4097 humans are moral agents, we have the mental capacity to understand logic and behave morally. Other animals do not. Suggesting that humans should eat meat because of nature is a naturalistic fallacy, its illogical. Morality often strays from nature ie. Our decision to denounce murder, rape, and pedophilia-- even though they all occur in nature.
Hopefully that clears things up
these Harvard kids are so insightful and open which is just so refreshing to see instead of people just getting so angry and wanting to argue instead of learn from one another
definitely agree
I don't know about that, this is a small handful of people. students at these places are only intelligent within what this society deems as intelligent, which has nothing to do with emotional intelligence. Some of the best conversations I've had on the topic are with people who may not be recognised as smart but when I asked them questions about this, looked within themselves, instead of looking for external answers.
Lilith Storm I definitely agree! I think you probably misunderstood/misread my comment. That’s why I said “these Harvard students” referring to the specific people in this video not Harvard as a whole and also not with the intention to not include people who aren’t Harvard students. I just was commenting on these people and admiring their openness regardless of the fact they go to Harvard or not
@@angiefawn2578 oh I see, yeah that's true they seem very open minded. Maybe we need to just ask people the right questions to get them thinking in the first place though! It's so important that those who are aware speak out for the animals and the planet. Are you involved in any activism? :)

Funny that the guy with the fur said coyotes are pests when humans are the ones chopping down the rain forest and polluting the environment.

@@Sammy-zj6oj Gtfo you ableist ignoramus.
Pests are a real dilhema in the vegan society. Would you cull rabbits or insects that were eating your personal crops? Would you cull foxes (not native to a country) that were eating native species? Pests will always be around and until the farming industry is gone, coyotes will be pests to a lot of people. It's sad but true

To be fair he was probably deep into thought and was having a bit of brain fart from the perspective Ed gave him. He definitely thought about it after. @@creedsacrifice1 Good point, but he needs to just be like, “let me think about it” but then again who am I to change personalities
Pretty disturbing how many people hesitate on the taste or life question...
Haha right? How can I get around this question knowing that I value taste more than life without looking like a total ass??
I'm sure many of them had never thought about it and it goes against what they've done their whole lives. That's why it's so important that we ask other these questions. Are you involved in any activism? :)
If they don't reply instantly it doesn't mean they don't recognize an ethical truth, they're potentially in a moment of awakening and self discovery, maybe they've never thought of it before.
Also I think for most people its clear that by agreeing to this question, they're agreeing with the principles of Veganism, something they've been heavily indoctrinated against.
If you try outreach, you'll be amazed at some of the things people say that are actually truly disturbing seriously it's amazing what some people will say to justify carnism.

Six days into my vegan journey and liking it. Came across this channel and it shows that some of us are just unaware of what we're doing or supporting, while others are so stuck in their ways, but yet, don't know the reasons behind those ways. I, too, was like that, until I realized just because something is a part of my culture/tradition doesn't mean its what should be being done.
Love the content by the way.
Hey, just to help you out even more please consider visiting channel BiteSizeVegan and tumblr blog acti-veg for animal rights and overall information on veganism as a whole. Many people "go vegan" and don't understand that it's not just a diet, it's a philosophy that advocates for animal's rights. With help of those resources you can find out that many things are not vegan like horse(any animal) riding, honey, silk and wool, animal breeding for purposes of owning for fun, emotional support, disability support, any kind of work in general.
Visit channel MicTheVegan and website veganhealth.org for health and dietary education.
For cosmetics and house/clothes cleaning products leapingbunny.org and logicalharmony.net.
r/vegan for pretty much anything.
www.vegan.com/animal-ingredients/ for non-vegan animal ingredients in anything as well as this one food additives www.veganeasy.org/food/food-additives/
veganwomble.org.uk and doublecheckvegan.com for pretty much anything as well and happycow.net for vegan restaurants and stores.
And now to I would say the hardest pill to swallow: vegan dog and cat feeding and care.
You can find out about that by visiting CompassionCircle and facebook groups Vegan Cats and Vegan Dogs Nutrition(especially files of both groups), but keep in mind that if you don't have any animal companions - you shouldn't get them anyways.
The idea of having "pets" is not vegan at all as domestic animals were taken by humans from their natural habitat and actually don't have any purpose but to entertain humans.
I you want to show more support and love to non-human animals you can donate to vegan farm sanctuaries and volunteer for all kind of shelters and sanctuaries as well.
I know that it might be difficult to hear that vegans want domestic animals to peacefully go extinct but that's one of the hardest things you as a vegan will have to understand and acknowledge.
Good luck~
@@pep-o-butt672 Thank you, thank you for the resources you listed and for taking time to inform me. Much appreciated. It was **never** necessary to steal milk from cows, no matter how certain cultures want to spin the "loving" relationship and how the cow allegedly benefits from the 'productive' relationship. There is little information about sentience? Only irrelevant excuses -- grass growing, spinach leaves, the purpose of rocks... There's no 'ambiguity' about stealing and exploiting. The Indian vegetarian fellow seemed nice at the end but GEEEEEEZ!!!!
I thought it was strange how the baby cows being taken from its mother got left out of the discussion but rocks being used for buildings, roads, etc. made it.
Perhaps he lives near a dairy farm in India that keeps the mother with the baby cow and allows suckling. That's unusual, but a few religions require it. But he may not have asked the right questions about what happens to cows when they stop producing, or what happens to male calves.
If consuming the milk of another species wasn’t evolutionarily advantageous at some point in human history...we would not have evolved the ability to do so.
@@anolisa1939 except over 75% of the population is lactose intolerant. We haven't evolved to do so.
ASMRyouVEGANyet?
The genetic mutation for lactase persistence can be found in over 80% of people of European decent. Such a pervasive adaptation would not have been selected for had it not proven extremely advantageous in the past. Today, of course, it’s a different story. Food abounds year round from all over the globe, and our ability to digest lactose has more to do with pleasures of the palate than actual survival...but let’s not pretend that was always the case.

@Kieran Jones haha, I had a complete panel of all my blood work done. All of my nutrients are excellent. B12, iron, calcium, D, u name it.
2 years for me :) Are you involved in any activism?
@Kieran Jones I recommended cleaning up the diet, b12 can come from plant sources. What do you say to people on a animal based diet that have b12 deficeny? I also am much stronger since I work out. I try to help improve people's lives unlike your negative demeaning comments. My physique as well as lab work and are in very good manner. Go focus on improving people's lives even if u believe in a different diet.
I try to get involved in some form of activism as often as I can, I usually go to an annonymous for the voiceless event once a month and do loads of online activism. The great thing about AV is that I don't feel so frustrated when I can't change all the people who are closest to me, because I know that I've helped to wake up so many other people who I've spoken to. It's so important that people like us speak out for the animals and the planet, keep up the great work!
@Kieran Jones Do you like the taste of raw, unflavoured meat? Most people don't. Besides flavouring it with loads of salt, ironically, meat is usually flavoured with plants (herbs and spices) Since going vegan I've never been healthier both mentally and physically. I'm also not lacking in any nutrients and in fact I was more lacking in nutrients when I ate meat. When moving onto a plant based diet your taste buds change, I now love the taste of almost all fruit and veg (even raw) and cannot stand even the site or smell of meat.
The Indian guy is right. Here in India most of the farmers love the cows ... even worship the cows. But when a male calf is born guess where they are sent?

Ed, I want to thank you for changing my life. You are a hero. Not only do I feel much happier now because I know truly that I am doing something good, I also feel that my mind is more structured. I also changed the minds of many of my friends because they wanted to know my opinion on the topic that changed me. Not only do I think beeing Vegan benefits myself I really think I am doing something good for the world. I want to reduce suffering as much as possible and beeing vegan is a great step towards this goal. Not only did beeing vegan help me to know what I want to do but also thought me who I want to be. I thought a lot about morality and came to the conclusion that I should confront all my Problems and issues und the way to fix problems of humanity is to start to confront ourselves with our morality and structure even more who we cant to not only become as individuals but as a society. So again thank you Ed!
This was such a lovely compilation of conversations! All of them were reasonable and open. I have to say though, the way you and the other vegan thanked each other at the end was amazing. Often times after these conversations, people are polite, but the vegan in this one was so genuine “it was an honor” what a sweet person 😭

Your a bloody good bloke Ed , always a pleasure to watch your videos & your very fair way with people 💚🌍💚🌍
I am making the transition from an omni diet to veganism. Initially I wanted to do it primarily to reduce my carbon footprint, and then when I started watching Mic the Vegan’s videos I felt confident I was doing the right thing due to reading and discovering the scientifically backed research on nutrition and health. And then I found your channel and as a result am doing a lot more thinking about the ethical and moral implications of consuming animal products, which I had always refused to consider and rather focus on more or less selfish reasons like personal health and reversing the impact of climate change. I am fascinated by the way you debate and argue with passion, it really inspires me to make this change to reduce the suffering of the animals and to spread awareness. Thank you so much.
Congratulations! Do you know about the resources Ed often mentions in his videos? If you need any help, I've seen that he hands out cards with this website on them: challenge22.com I haven't used this as I went vegan years ago but it seems useful.

New to this channel and I can’t stop watching these videos. I like how Ed defends vegans instead of throwing insults blaming the people he talks to who are meat eaters. I’ve seen a lot of vegans get so passionate about the topic that all they care about is spitting facts and letting the meat eaters talk as little as possible that is not how a debate works.
I actually find it very interesting and refreshing to follow the thought-process of the first guy.
Great video as always. And an awesome approach :)
Such great work "Salute"
So good to live vegan
Wait... so he says he is lactose intolerant, yet drinks dairy milk of cows from farms that “he personally visited and trusts” - huh?
themax2go perhaps he only drinks A2 cows milk
Yes, he tells the cow not to put lactose in the milk.
@@Ibelongod 🤣 yeah, and while at it, no blood and puss either... seriously though, even if that'd be possible, animal milk still has this slimy coating to it - yuck 🤢🤮
Really enjoyed this video.
Your videos always make my day.
After watching earthlingeds speech I’m still vegan 7 months later and I’m never looking back
If *Compound interest* is the 8th worder of the world then *Marketing* is the 9th wonder because even the Indians truely believe Cows are treated with love in India 😂
This is very eye opening
Good work Ed 👍🏼
*_Respectful Debate: One of the reasons i eat meat (not red meat or processed, but mainly seafood) is because I want to live a lifestyle that is healthiest (Japan/Mediterranean style diets since they are known to have some of the highest life expectancies). So when he said taste or life, i choose to extend my life expectancy. Any thought on this type of response?_*
lovely video as always ed :)
Vegan for more than 2 months. Thnks Ed. Greetings from Malaysia.
i forgot how much i loved ed's way of activism. glad i watched this- great way how to have conversations with friends as well.
Wish I could speak to non vegans like this. I want to cry when I talk to my family on the topic
Lots of comments mocking the guy for saying "spinach tree", but his argument is still sound. Seems pretty rude to mock him over a little slipup.
Everything that came out of his mouth was dumb. Whole lot of nonsense.
Yeah people tend to do that when they subconsciously know they're wrong.
Doesn't matter how logical and articulate you are, if you make one insignificant slip and they pounce on it....then you're probably in the right.
Awesome Ed💚
Ed's reaction to people being vegan is the warmest, fuzziest feeling I'll ever see.
I wish you could control what ads you get, because I got a meat add, which is always upsetting anyway, and it just seemed like a slap in the face 😤😤😤
Awesome job Ed! These guys were very open minded and it was nice seeing such civil discussions about the topic of veganism. The world is changing people!!!
Thank you Ed! Even if I'm vegan you keep me motivated and I am learning a lot from your discussions!!
i watch many of your videos and i'm always amazed by the answers you get from most of the people... they are completely different to the answers and reactions i witness whenever the vegan subject comes to a "popular debate" in my environment :|
That indian boy is really switched on! Really interesting discussion
how they all say “interesting” and “yeah, uhh...” you can tell they all go to the same university, but their thinking patterns...oof
Peasant detected
what's wrong with their thinking patterns? i agree with you (presumably) that consumption of animal products is morally wrong. a lot of these students maybe haven't thought about it that much, or are trying to articulate themselves clearly and so need a second or two to think, which people usually fill with 'interesting' or 'yeah uhh'. these are intelligent people, they are at harvard for a reason. they just needed a second to think about the question
And these guys are all smarter than literally anyone u know.
Jos i didn’t say their thinking patterns were incorrect because they used those fillers, i said that because their thinking patterns go in circles and they don’t use reasoning to realize when they’re wrong. they just move past it. it wasn’t intended to be shady🤷🏽♀️
led JEEEMM led JEEEMM welp, that’s not true, but go off
I'll start by saying I've been Vegan for over two years. I've never felt better in my life and beyond the health benefits, I feel that I am living so much more in synch and congruently than I ever have based on this choice. It's become a huge passion for me. Having said that, I was really moved and enlightened by the last point in this video. While we have all seen the horrors of what some of the workers do to the animals which would be considered cruelty to the highest degree, I never stopped to think of how this really can be considered the exploitation of humans as well. For those in desperate need of money to put food on the table, (no pun intended,) this would be the lowest possible job one can have if you have any love for animals at all. It makes me wonder if ANY of the workers have pets of their own. There is literally NO difference taking the life of a dog or cat, versus a pig, cow, lamb, chicken, or any other sentient being on the planet!
I actually really enjoy the interviews on college campuses because you can tell these students actually think about their answers before they say them, and they sort of have a mini "debate" in their head before they come up with a response to make sure they aren't making any logical fallacies. Much better than having a random person on the street say "ItS hUmAn NaTuRe" or "oUr AnCeStOrS dId It".
Yeah true point. But it's interesting that Ed and every other abolitionist vegan activist is willing to engage with any actual principled opposition. How would Ed go talking to Allan savory? Or Joel Salatin? Geoff Lawton?
These people would be able to expose the ridiculousness of Ed's argument, so he doesn't talk to them. (I'm sure he does speak to some principled opposition, but they edit it all out)
Stay curious stay safe 🤗
The more I listen to you, the more I learn to listen! :)
The more I watch you, the more I want to see you! :)
The more I hear you, the more VEGAN I want to be!
That sounds wrong, isn't it? :))
Hello, Ed!
@Kieran Jones mmm. Where do the animals you eat get these nutrients from?
lactation and lawn cultivation are comparable?? Oh Harvard....
The dude was smart but also proud of his culture
@@bamwesty8158 smart, maybe, wise, no
@@bamwesty8158 I wish he had finished his sentences more often.
We need you in India!!! Love your work ❤️
I really missed these videos from you. You are such a great activist, keep up the good work ☺️❤️
We should leave milk for baby cows it is not for us humans to consume.
Vegan Corie it’s more efficient and effective to consume due to the packed amount of calcium it provides it’s also freaking refreshing
yahya motala “effective” to consume. Yeah if you want health issues
Thank goodness I don't need to chop down a tree when I want an apple.
Ed is so patient without a quick temper.
i love milk and drink it everyday. i don't care what anyone says if its healty i eat/drink it.
How is that guy vegan and not recognize the vegan Jesus lol
He's way too intelligent to be wasting his time learning the useless crap they teach you in college
For the past couple months I have been trying to cut out as much animal products as I can and trying to make the world a better place my dudes! Who is with me?
You don't have to eat a great amount of animal products in order to be healthy. But you do need to eat some. You can actually get by with just eating fish like salmon and mollusks, some eggs and some dairy.
@@kegeshook1734 no you don't there are perfectly healthy vegans out there who completely have given up all animal products because you can get necessary vitamins and minerals from plants,so..
Woo! You go dude! I'd love to help you on your vegan journey if you need it! :)
@@crimsonx_0 Healthy vegans are very rare. The few that have maintained good health have not done so by just eating plants. They have been taking supplements. You cannot get all of the necessary nutrients from plants.
@@kegeshook1734 does ed look malnourished to you? I didn't think so lmao
*_The person who Ed is talking with is one of my favorite people for some reason_*
love you bro:)
