I feel like an in-app update function is long overdue. Seems like something basic that was never worked on by anyone. UI and menu stuff is a huge mess and they dont like any suggestions improveing that.
PSA: There is absolutely no need to deselect some of the folders (e.g. saves) prior to copying the files over. This is not how computers work, or have ever worked. If you drag and drop an empty folder unto one containing files, windows will simply "delete" the empty one. There is no case in which the original folder gets "replaced" by the empty one. Test it on your desktop, and see for yourself.
True, but at this point in time we shouldn't even need to do it this way. Retroarch needs an in-app updater that makes it an automatic updater... we shouldn't need to update it manually.
@@Scoby hmmm. I always keep a configure file backed up and I think I need retroarch config to still be the same and not replace that. What do you think?
using retroarch on the wii to play zx spectrum, but noticed the fuse core is too outdated (Version 10). the stand alone zx spectrum emu is on version 15. is there any way to update the core myself? reason being, a game called Nixy The Glade Sprite is displaying garbage on screen with version 10 (retroarch), but displays cleanly on version 15 (stand alone zx emu for wii). Reason I want to use retroarch is because it lets me do 240p (playing on CRT, i get nice scan lines, 480i is just ugly and blurry). Stand alone won't do that..
I have a super console x cube with retroarch 1.9.0. How do I update this? I dont have the same update buttons as you. So should I download a current version of retro on pc and then copy and paste over the old version through the shared files wifi option? Thanks in advance if u can help
Why do I have to make this process manually? I know the software is free, but man... if they already did all that, they could implement a proper update automation while they are at it or an installer that detects and overwrite safe files and folders. The current method is messy and prone to human error.
Same here. Search does not show any Retroarch data folder. What gives ? Why does his search show that and ours doesn't ? Is it something in view settings or what ?

That's a really strange advice. There is tons of things you might not think of, that benefit you afterall. Just keep a copy of the old folder in compressed form and you're always good to go for a new version (and always good to jut go back). Most people check for a new version every few years. Noone's checking the changelogs of all versions in between, to know if theres something in there, that they want.
I mean its VERY detailed, but totally unnecessary. Whole video should have been "Extract Retroarch latest download and overwrite existing folder" done.

This is the most annoying crap in history and i'm especially concered I will ruin my ui config.
Great video, concise and to the point. Just updated to Retroarch 1.10.0 stable using this method. Vulkan support baby!

@@Levi_Ackerman_005 exactly; they already have online updater for the rest of the stuff
Thanks to you, now i can update my Retroarch keeping my config.... :) you're amazing!! keep the good work :)
Thank you. I needed this.
Happy I could help! :)
That's how tutorials are made, thank you and subscribing.
So Retroarch still don't have auto update? Weird. But they do have the core updates and others
Thanks. Worked!
Great video, but did I miss something - how did the config file not change to default when moving everything over?
There is no config file until you open RA for the first time. So there is no config file in the new version folder.
Mine still loaded up the old retroarch. I followed your instructions exactly
If you followed correctly you would be on the new version, I'd suggest doing it again and double checking the steps :)
So when I did this. It reset the entire retroarch settings and how I had everything the way how it was.
It sounds like you did not do it correctly and possibly made a mistake as normally this will not reset anythin g

When I search, like you did, there is no option for "Retroarch data folder". There is only Retroarch and that's it.
You will need to manually find your retroarch folder then, it should appear, strange it does not.
open your version of retroarch and check the directories in the settings, you should see where it is from there

Is 1.16 newer than 1.9? It keeps installing 1.16
it is, it does not work the math way, so the version 1.10 is newer than 1.9
@@sameralkhatib4474 The "math way" where 10 < 9 ? :D
It's 1.16, not 1.1.6. 1.1.6 is smaller than 1.9, but 1.16 is larger, because 16 > 9.

Thank you so much!!!!!
i would not do that, prefer to create another retroarch folder and put everything i need in the new folder
Why do u have a black build and i have the blue nixe ui one
You mean this program doesn't have an updater yet within the program it has updaters for the cores etc!?!?!?!? terrible in 2022!!!
Sadly it's more common in apps than you would think
Retroarch is very terrible overall. Even the most basic stuff is either completely absent or made super hard to use.
